    Updated Interior of the restaurant

We accidentally stumbled upon this place while touring the city and absolutely loved the food. The Vongole pasta was amazing and the fish of the day was made deliciously. The two pizzas we tried, the Margarita Pizza and the cheese, olive and honey Pizza was perfectly made! We highly recommend this place if you're in the area! Also the pictures on Yelp are from the old restaurant. It now has a new owner and has been updated!

We stumbled upon this gem as it was across the street from our Aparthotel. The restaurant has new owners and the kindest waitstaff! We ended up going three times while we were in Rome! They all speak English, and Julia- one of the waitstaff is from the US. The chef was fantastic, the drinks were fantastic and the ambiance was warm and inviting. We truly felt like family. We met others who were also told of this place through word of mouth! Reservations are needed after 7 as they are packed every evening!

Thats right, 5 stars ! I do not know what that italian lady wrote in her review, its just wrong. Now I don't know a lot about food, but if I am willing to walk a mile with my achy flat feet, to come back the next day and eat again at the same place, it is just amazing. Ok, so this place has to be in my top ten in rome where I dined. I was here for lunch and came back the next day for dinner. I loved it, the staff was super friendly, the owner, Andreas was very helpful and an absolute pleasure to talk to and really when you have good food all around the city what really sets a place aside is the service. This place offered that on top of the exceptional food. The bruschettas were amazing, the best in town. If I remember correctly they make their own bread and that makes the difference. I think we had tiramisu for dessert on both days and it was just divine. 5 stars, and since its election season here in the US - I am the king of rome and I endorse this message !

    Best. Bruschetta. Ever.

I found this to be a wonderful unspoiled neighborhood spot that was largely frequented by locals. We came here for dinner a couple nights based upon the recommendation of our innkeeper. The food is pretty traditionally Roman. The pici with amatriciana sauce was pretty good. The bruschetta al pomodoro was delicious-- the best we had during several stops in Italy. The outer crust of the bread was crunchy with the inner center being just the right amount of soggy from the red-ripe tomatoes and basil with olive oil. One night, a special of grilled fish we had ranked as one of the two best fish preparations I have ever had-- the other being years ago at a beachside cafe' in Santorini. The service is a little hit or miss, and it gets crowded so you are not guaranteed a table outside; however, the inside is modern farmhouse kitsch that is fun. House wines are relative bargains. I loved the Bianchi, which had just a touch of effervescence and --careful-- can easily be drunk by the carafe! Note: if Fico is busy, avoid the other place down the alley. We got lured into the competitor one night by their offer of a glass of wine while we waited and the food was terrible! We should have stuck with Il Fico that night, too.

    Delicious Biscaiola.

Pizza Boscaiola was epic!!!! If you're looking for a good pizza restaurant, go to Il Fico. My mom had spicy spaghetti. She said it was rich and delicious! We have been traveling all over Italy and had a competition for which pizza was the bes. For me and my brother IL FICO is in first place now. This was written by my 10 year old son.

18 Feb 12: I read reviews of this restaurant on a travel site and what sparked my taste buds were the words, "Octopus salad." It was a good 20 minute walk from my hotel, so I headed out a little early so I could enjoy the street scenes. I got to the restaurant about 8 minutes before my reservation time and saw just a few people sitting inside. My heart sank a little, as I was expecting to see the place full with diners. I walked around a few more minutes and then went inside the restaurant. I was greeted with a warm smile from Giovanna, the waitress who took care of me throughout the night. I was given a small glass of prosecco. I thought that was a nice touch! The place filled quickly, although only to about 80% capacity. There were lots of Italians, which is always a good sign. I had a delicious meal: I started with fried stuffed zucchini flowers with anchovies and cheese. They were really good! 3€. Then I had the octopus salad, which I thoroughly enjoyed. 6€. For my entrée, I had the saltimbocca, which came out quickly. Two pieces, cut very thin, topped with proscuitto, and served with a nice light sauce. Small portions but quite flavorsome. With wine (and complimentary limoncello and biscotti) my bill came to 25€. I thought this to be an excellent value along with very friendly service and I'm so glad I picked this place for dinner. I definitely want to come back here again.

My favorite restaurant in Rome! The food is incredible, I had the marg pizza and wow the crust was so thin. I also had the fettuccine with mushrooms which also blew me away. The give you a small glass of Prosecco when you sit down and the service is so nice and friendly. Highly recommend!

What a great time with the twins! Armando and Rudy and Tom and Terry! Felt like family! Good food, service and atmosphere!

We ordered sea bass fillet rolled in zucchini and honey mushrooms. Fish was tender, soft, and delicious with great seasoning. We also ordered Ravioli with white truffles and it was delicious as well. Ravioli tasted like it was freshly made and it tasted great with truffles. Lastly, we got tiramisu for dessert. This tiramisu was prepared by an artist. Just by looking at the dish, it was very pretty to look at. It was presented on a beautiful plate with thin chocolate cookie on top with sugar decoration and underneath was a creamy white tiramisu. I loved this dish because it was unique dessert with great sweet flavor and great presentation. The service was excellent. Everyone was friendly with great attitude and they are attentive. I think they liked the look on my face every time they brought out the dishes because their presentation was great. Whoever was the Chef that night, I would give him or her an award. This restaurant was unique just like Rome. Highly recommended!

We opted for the Roman-style cuisine tasting menu with wine pairings. The service was warm and welcoming, and the ambiance was quiet and romantic. I appreciated the decor, especially the various wine bottles displayed throughout, and I also liked the dishes the food was served on. That said, this restaurant leaned a little too "foodie" for my taste. I also discovered that I really dislike truffles! My husband, on the other hand, enjoyed everything--including my leftovers. The wines were fantastic across the board. I also want to mention the pricing was shockingly affordable for what we got at dinner, which again, included the wine pairing. If you consider yourself a foodie and enjoy creative, thoughtfully prepared dishes, Ristorante Ad Hoc is worth a visit.

Pane e Salame, however, was delicious!!!! On our first day in Rome, my husband and I decided to search for a lunch spot nearby (we were staying near the Trevi fountain), and I found this place had pretty good reviews. We got there about an hour after it opened and requested a seat outdoors. They have a tiny patio across from their entrance, but they fit quite a bit of people in it! We initially wanted to order two sandwiches to try more items, but I'm glad we just shared one - they were big and filling! We also had the small charcuterie board to share which was plenty of food for us both. We shared a bottle of rose, and all in all, we paid under $50 (usd) - what a steal! This was the perfect first meal in Rome. The food was incredibly fresh, the service was great, and the outdoor seating allowed us to experience the streets of Rome. 10/10 - would absolutely go back.

The edamame we had was soft and boiled/spiced to perfection. Originally we were just going to get a roll and a bowl but after trying the food we immediately got another roll. The staff was a whole new level of mind blowing. To start the waiter made us feel exactly where we belonged (even though we were a little underdressed for a classier restaurant). You could've just sat there and watched the bar tender all night, she looked like she was a professional I wouldn't want anyone else making me drinks. The atmosphere of the whole bar embodied a classic American jazz bar, even the other people and tables we were by were friendly and really added to the whole experience. Was very well worth the price and couldn't recommend any other restaurant.

A jazz club for American tourists…read more Okay, there was one Australian lady and a few Chinese. Everyone else was American. Prices are sky-high because this is a soak the tourist situation. Alexanderplatz which is the premiere jazz club in Rome charges $18 euros for a month membership - no cover after that - and $12 per drink. So once you have paid your monthly cover charge, you can hear all the jazz you want for free - or if need be for $12 euros a drink At Alexanderplatz, the performances are legendary with some of the most innovative and technically amazing musicians in Rome. We dropped over $150 euros at Gregory's. We got a perfectly reasonable yeoman guitarist. But nothing like the artistic lions that routinely perform over at Alexanderplatz. Now to be fair, we had dinner at Gregory's and we never eat at Alexanderplatz. The standard "sushi dinner" was perfectly reasonable yeoman sushi. There was so little of it that we both had to order a la carte dishes afterwards. The extra extras seriously expanded the final tab. * * * One argument in Gregory's favor: their bar is extraordinary. The bar at Alexanderplatz is mediocre. Gregory's charges top dollar for its bar offerings, but what they mix and what is in their bottles is worth every single euro they ask for. I would be perfectly happy to just go to the bar, and order a few premium beverages. I would hear my wallet cry. But I would know that I was drinking supremely well in return for my investment. Fortunately, the bar is downstairs from the club. I would not have to put up with the shenanigans in the club. * * * The problem with the club is the crowd. At most, one third of the customers are actually there to listen to jazz. The room is filled with tourists taking selfies. There are also hot-daters playing snuggle-buns. Many of them will leave mid-set so they can go back to the hotel. Gregory's is less about the music and more about selling happy memories of Rome. * * * Alexanderplatz gets a mostly Italian crowd. You are looking as musicians, music critics, academics, and all purpose artsy types - as well as normal Italian human beings who just want to hear fine music. The music is taken very very seriously. Yeah, there are usually two or three tables with good time Charlies who are doing the phone recording, party hearty thing. But this is 8% of the audience at Alexanderplatz as opposed to 70% of the audience at Gregory's. To be fair to the crowd at Gregory's, the music at Alexanderplatz is simply better. The jazz at Alexanderplatz is capable of transfixing even philistines with tin ears. Gregory's jazz doesn't put that much on the table. But the crowd at Alexanderplatz sets me up for listening to mystic, complex music with the highest level of attention and aesthetic receptiveness. The crowd at Gregory's just gets me irritated. * * * If you are in Rome with a hot date, go to Gregory's. Be prepared to shell out the bucks. * * * If you are in Rome with someone who can truly appreciate once-in-a-lifetime musical experiences, take them to Alexanderplatz. After you talk about the music for half an hour after the concert, You can still go back to the hotel. Just figure that the hotel will be the second best part of the night.
