We've been on a Wailea brunch roll lately! We came for their Sunday Rosé Brunch ($120 p/p, 11a - 2p). ATMOSPHERE: Ikena (formerly known as the Grand Dining Room) is the located in the atrium of the Grand Wailea Resort. Open air, high ceilings and a gorgeous ocean view with available outdoor seating. Due to it being Pride Month, they had a themed event called "Rosé & Rainbows", complete with a DJ playing dance music, a rainbow balloon-decorated social media setup, even rainbow layered cake. The breakfast buffet here is extremely overpriced and they have a limited food selection. While they do have an omelette station, and a good view that's about it. You can get a similar breakfast for free at other hotels, yet this place charges $57 per person. Even if we got a $25 per person dining credit, the price is still not justifiable and we were extremely disappointed. I overheard someone leaving their table in disappointment, saying, "This is the most expensive buffet in the world... IN THE WORLD!" I couldn't agree more. I don't mind paying a steep price if the quality is good, but their food quality is subpar. Even their bacon was overcooked, and the quiche wasn't done right. To make matters worse, the place is infested with wild birds that eat at the tables! As soon as I stood up to get something, my husband told me the birds immediately went for my plate. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. There are far better options with better quality in Kihei/South Maui Gardens. Don't make the same mistake we did. read more

Probably the best restaurant on the property - Ikena is your standard AYCE breakfast buffet. Situated in an open-air balcony type atmosphere with great views. There are several stations of normal building block breakfast items, then meats and cheese, fresh fruit, omelet station, and a large press of nearly anything you could really want. Over the three mornings I had a couple of made to order omelets, bacon, sausage, Hawaiian sweet bread French toast, creme filled donuts, and chia seed oatmeal jars, and scrambled eggs. This is located in a hotel. It has 2 serving times. Breakfast and lunch. We came for the breakfast buffet and unfortunately wish we didn't because we had hotel credit to use. Price for a breakfast buffet makes you think you're getting something special. You're not. You're paying for convenience for a breakfast equal to a free breakfast in a cheaper hotel brand. I honestly think this was a waste of our money. Vegas buffets are cheaper but have more quantity at least. 2 stars for a decent chocolate muffin. We were very unimpressed. I know a food truck within 15 minutes of this place with similar prices BUT with fine dining quality food in South Maui Gardens always knocking it out the park. A bit pricey, but you expect that already when you stay at the Waldorf Astoria. That said, the breakfast offerings are top notch here, as expected. Fresh fruits, made to order omelettes, and local pastries are some of the highlights. As far as ambiance goes, the view of the ocean from the terrace can't be beat. But one caution, if you sit closer to the open doors and leave your food unattended there's a high chance a bird will grab it. Food: Egg whites were fluffy and bacon was crispy...sooo delicious. Fresh fruit, watermelon, strawberries, plum, nectarine were all delicious. Prime rib was tender especially with the glaze. Fruit tart was yummy. My husband ate all the seafood choices and had no complaints. No complaints on all the food options. Rose' wine, I was not a fan of but that's ok. Service was on point. After a bad start - i.e. having our reservation made months prior cancelled for an event. An event which I never saw because we went here 2/4 days we were at the Grand Wailea and it was basically dead each day. What is different about this buffet is that they have different options compared to others but they are fewer. They had some esoteric options such as the omelet, i think it was lobster one day and like lamb another other something. But the options are not a great as other buffets and if you are sort of picky - you may not like it. For example, they had salmon Benedict one day but no other options. They will make waffles upon request and I tried to get a meat benedict but no beans. The juice they have is good but very sugary, its like a Guava or something. The views are amazing, all ocean and we were seated near the ledge both times. We had a great server, Debbie. I also like that they have covers for your plates if you step away for the birds to not eat your food. Very large restaurant and it was like $50 pp or something. I had a Napua room so truthfully, we would pregame up there and then go to Ikena and I am glad we did because after all the buffets we tried this trip, we thought it was lacking the options. Fantastic breakfast! Buffett style and each item was prepared very well. I had lox with cream cheese capers on a bagel with huecos rancheros. All prepared very well. Coffee was fantastic and the wait staff was great. It's $57 per person which is pricy but it's worth it for the quality of food. I'll definitely come back. read more

Had the standard fresh fruit, pancakes, bacon, omelette station etc but for the price would recommend going out of the hotel or ordering room service was surprisingly much cheaper. read more

This was definitely on the higher end of buffets, 54$ per person for a breakfast buffet. Although it is worth it for ppl with good appetite since all the items on the buffet were awesome. The restaurant has both indoor and out door dining with outdoor dining looking over to chapel at one end and the dolphin fountains on the other end. I have never seen nova lox being served in a buffet so definitely got that, they have nice puddings as well, I had the dragonfruit coconut chia seeds pudding which was actually very nice and I wouldn't have otherwise usually ordered it had it not been a buffet. We were staying in the hotel the grand Wailea but there are no discounts for hotel guests so we didn't come with much expectations.. the view and the food made it worthy for us to dine there once and if in the area I would love to come here again. read more

I dined here only for breakfast while staying at Waldorf Astoria Wailea Maui. They gave us options of free continental breakfast for Hilton Honors Diamond members and full breakfast buffet at $19 per person (regular price is like close to $40 I think). I was not really hungry during this trip so had just the free continental breakfast, which turned out more than enough food. You still get full waiter service, offer of coffee, tea, different types of juices. The view was certainly magnificent and the service was excellent. I cannot really speak for the food as my continental breakfast consisted of varieties of fruits, yogurt and bread. But I definitely had a positive experience. read more

Prime Rib and Ham carving station, Mahi Mahi, Korean chicken, Ahi Poke, crab legs, lobster claws, shrimp, oysters, lumpia, dumplings, French toast waffles, omelette station, dessert station and so much more, this buffet lacked nothing. First time going to the Rose brunch at 'Ikena and it was excellent. From the moment we got there, we were greeted by the hostess and got seated right away. We had a spectacular view of the ocean with an open air atmosphere. Food was amazing no doubt, crab claws, shrimp, prim rib, etc.,etc. Buffet set up was on point, very professional and clean. We came here for breakfast and were immediately won over by the ocean views. This is quintessential Maui dining. We initially planned to order off the menu but there were only 6 items and none of them were particularly appealing. So we sprang for the buffet (ouch - at least the kid was free). As far as breakfast buffets go, this one was pretty good (at least compared to the Westin and the Hyatt). I was excited to see options like papaya, manapua, siu mai, malasadas, bread pudding, fried rice, and eggs benedict. The usual suspects like eggs, bacon, oatmeal, sausage, and more standard fruits were there as well. There were a lot of people waiting when we got there around 9 but the crowds cleared pretty quickly. Watch out for the birds. The scare-owls don't seem to be doing a sufficient job of frightening away the other birds. read more

Beautiful property & excellent customer service. If you come to dine then your valet charge will be waved. Sunday Rose brunch was delicious with a variety of selections. Service was good for how busy there were on the date we decided to visit. My only negative is that several advertisements locally showed the price of brunch , but once we arrived to Grand Wailea, the bill, was double per person which can up vey quickly. The views are worth it however, pricey for a brunch,. We had an excellent time there and it is worth checking into if you are on Maui. Mahalo! read more

We were hotel guests at the Grand Wailea and chose the Grand Dining Room for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Doors opened up at 7:00am, and we were one of the first few customers that were seated close to lanai with the spectacular view of the grand fountain. Our server was Edison and he was a pleasure. I was inclined to order from the breakfast menu, however he had convinced me that the $31 Breakfast Buffet was a better choice. My craving for Eggs Benedict was strong though, and I only saw an omelet station. So, I expressed my concern. He said he could put in a special order for Eggs Benedict to be included with the buffet price. And, he also included a small plate of Miso Salmon! While I waited for my "special order," I headed to the buffet line. The food selection is nicely displayed in four separate stations: hot foods, breads & pastries, fruit & salad bar, and the omelet station. Some of the unique options were malasadas, miso soup, yogurt parfait, fancy cheeses, lavosh, and the salsa bar. Just walking to the buffet section felt like I was royalty with marble floors and tall ceilings with large mural paintings. I returned to the table to find a cup of coffee and guava juice as I had requested earlier. Our server was quick and efficient! Both beverages were a great start to a beautiful day in Maui. The food: 5 STARS! Outstanding. Just excellent. So good. OMG! Totally worth the price. And guess what? If you're Kamaaina, there's a 20% discount!! What a deal. What a deal!! I finished everything on my plate, plus the special order items. It was delicious. To top it off, the view of the fountain courtyard was just amazing. We came here for breakfast 5 days in a row. The waiters and hosts are very friendly and nice, but the service was incredibly slow each morning. You can tell that they're hustling and running around as fast as they can, but our breakfasts for two took over an hour each morning. When we finally received our eggs & toast it was cold. I asked them to remake it, which they kindly did and apologized for the delay. Overall, the food is very good, and the location (and view) is great. read more

Note: this review is for the Sunday brunch. The setting is unbeatable and picturesque, and you get a nice ocean breeze. It runs from 11am to 1pm on Sundays, but they don't clean up the food until about 1:30pm. It's $65/person, including coffee, juice, and 2 glasses of champagne. Definitely go for a guava mimosa! For the food, they have kahlua pork, an omelette station, tropical fruits, cheese / charcuterie, pastries, a chilled seafood bar (king crab legs, large shrimp, oysters), sushi, and brunch foods. Highlights were the lobster mac n cheese and the crab cake eggs Benedict - the crab cakes were essentially all crab, and the eggs were perfectly poached despite sitting at a buffet station. The dessert station was located on the other side and had some more special local items like lilikoi macarons, green tea creme brulee, and mini ube cakes. Beware when you get up from your table - the birds will attack anything left at your table within seconds. It's definitely worth coming here for the Sunday champagne brunch. A full service dining room, very large and elegantly decorated. They offer seating inside and out with exceptional service. The dining room being very large and providing seating outside as well as inside this was a great establishment for breakfast. The large windows and open doors allowing the tropical sun made the ambience very vibrant and refreshing. They offered table service as well as buffet style options, the buffet options were excellent in terms of freshness, quality and variety. A vast selection of fresh fruits, rolls, eggs etc. The table service also provides fresh made to order entrees to go with the fresh coffee or selection of juices. Excellent brunch from the hostess station to the service , it's refreshing to see people who enjoy their work for change, the quality of the food is good with enough fresh selections not the typical can food all over your face like other places. We come for breakfast almost everyday when we are there. The entire staff is so sweet and goes out of their way for any request. The kids love the buffet, but the adults usually order off the menu. First of all the resort is beautiful. I was not a guest there but heard the rosè brunch was good so I decided to go. But there is no signs anywhere pointing to where anything is lol finally found ikena and the view was great. Quickly got our drinks then headed over to the buffet. Great selection of food. We ate a bit then went to the rosé area. I thought it was going to be an actual glassful of it but it was just a sample. And you can only get one per person! Yes there is also a reasonable breakfast buffet for $31 but it didn't look very fresh and again, I didn't want an over priced breakfast. Lol While there was a good variety of dishes on the menu, the 4 of us pretty much ordered the same 2 dishes; 2 half orders of banana bread French toast, 3 half orders of loco moco, and 1 full order if banana bread French toast. The banana bread French toast was absolutely amazing! Buttery, banana-y and the perfectly moist with a crispy outside. The loco moco wasn't anything special but was your typical comfort loco moco and I mopped my plate! One cannot help but be impressed by the hotel and grounds, truly a 5 star facility. From the valet to the maitre ' d to the waiter, service was immaculate. This is the grand jewelry of Grand Wailea, food wise. They do breakfast/brunch really well. The buffet breakfast is amazing (or you can also order a la carte). The spread has everything you will imagine, including sashimi, omelette station, fresh cut fruits and vegetables. Tons of prepared entrées. One of the best brunches I have ever been to. Not a huge buffet type person but the food here was a effing great and Chef Ryan Urig is probably the cutest chef I have ever seen. #AddedBonus . They had all of these fresh Veggie salads with butternut squash and other fresh Veggie combos, extraordinarily fresh and flavorful. The burrato and tomatoe dish was also memorible. Brunch buffet (10am-1pm) review Pretty solid spread overall. Enough choices to get uncomfortably full and still have things you hadn't yet tried. No complaints on service, and price at $50 seemed fair. Decent amount of Bfast items (the usual proteins, toast bagels etc. omelet station) plus some pretty decent lunch items like mushroom penne, potatoes au gratin, some white fish, etc. sushi/sashimi element was weak but as expected. Desserts were well done with a subdae bar, gourmet donuts & malasadas, the requisite tropical fruits, and tiramisu as the highlight for myself. Champagne was good with frequent enough refills, and live Hawaiian music a nice touch. Side note: Did feel a little like an anglo bourgeois dbag noticing that clientele was all old white people, and staff were all old brown people. All in all a worthwhile endeavor and satisfying maui buffet.
