Ever been to IKEA on a Sunday afternoon? Don't. You'll want to shoot yourself before trying that again. But the mega-mall atmosphere aside (one more thing: the parking lot is a free-for-all. People fly around through these rows acting like they own the place. The Swedish called, speeders: you ain't getting this discount Euro Modern screw-together goodness!) this is a pretty nice spot. Sure, it's like 70 million square feet and the bookcases are named Billy, but come on, you can find some good quality stuff here for great prices. Roche Boibos it ain't. But that's why you come here -- it's affordable, it looks decent and it comes in a nifty box you can put in back of your minivan. And did I mention the breakfast for less than $2? The eggs are kind of rubbery and I'm pretty sure the bacon isn't really bacon, but somehow it tastes damn good. Get there early and skip the dreaded lunch rush for those salty meatballs. read more

I almost made it out of IKES injury free. I was only twenty feet away from check out when the cart started to drift. If you have shopped at IKEA you know I mean. All four wheels swivel which makes the carts literally uncontrollable. The more weight you have on them the less control. In my efforts to control the cart I pulled a muscle in my leg. Not seriously but when you are 78 any pulled muscle is an issue. Everyone I have talked to thinks the carts are terrible but when you complain to a manager you are told they are an IKEA tradition and the company will not change them. What arrogance! read more

Always enjoy shopping here (try to avoid the weekend crowds) even though it's quite a drive from my house. Recently was assembling a dresser for my kid's room and the bottom kick-board (not sure what it is called) cracked in 2. Visited the return/help area and they were able to give us a replacement piece which saved the day. Great customer service! Decent store. They offer free lockers for shoppers to place their stuff in while they shop. They also have a free child play/care center so that parents can shop. They don't have to provide those perks but they do. The furniture is is reasonably priced and the employees seem very helpful. read more

I am a Swede who was born and raised in Sweden and almost got IKEA with my mother's milk. In Sweden there is almost certainly an IKEA catalog in every home. I have been to the first ever IKEA store, which opened in the outskirts of Stockholm back in the 60s. They were the first ever to come up with the concept of walking through a showroom to pick out what you want, and then pick up boxes in the warehouse to go home and assemble the furniture yourself. The quality of their stuff was really poor in the beginning, it was kind of like buying a Japanese car at the time. The Japanese cars obviously have improved tremendously and so has IKEA (not to the same degree though) The bang for your buck is great and now the quality of their stuff is actually quite good. You just can't beat their selection when it comes to accessories. The only reason I'm not giving them more than 3 stars is their usually poor customer service, not very friendly personnel, and slow checkouts. read more

I called IKEA to find out if they have wheelchairs available for older shoppers. I spent almost 5 minutes pushing phone prompts in order to get to customer service. Once I finally got there, I was on hold for 12 minutes when I gave up and hung up the phone. It's the little things like this that efficiency, cost savings experts that propose such cost cutting measures to replace people with phone prompts, and staff at the minimum possible in order to force people to shop online, that makes my blood boil. Our most recent visit to this store was disappointing. We purchased a bed, which came in two boxes. When we got home and put it together, we were missing two pieces and couldn't use the bed without them. We returned to the store for the missing pieces, and were told that we had to purchase them. We were confused, as we had box 1 of 2 and box 2 of 2. Shouldn't all pieces be within these 2 boxes? The missing pieces were also in the directions, so they weren't optional as suggested by staff. We spoke to the manager, Bill. He could care less about our concerns. In a very condescending way, he basically told us to either buy what we needed or return the bed. Luckily we didn't have the bed with us, or my better half would have sent it through the front door like the old tire commercial. We know IKEA sells cheap furniture, and the assembly process is sometimes frustrating, but you get what you pay for right? Well, not in this case. We didn't get everything we needed. What's even worse is there's groups of employees standing around just chillin all over the place. Bait and Switch! Went to Tempe Ikea to look at entertainment center with the wife and kids. Walked by the cafeteria and saw a big sign saying "Eat Free, here's how". Read the fine print by the * and it said if you buy $100 of product you could deduct your meal receipt from the cost. Great, we grab a bite excited to apply it to the bill. We buy the entertainment center and hand the receipt to the cashier and she says the promotion is not going on. Then why the sign? I ask for a manager and he says they just leave the sign up and there are dates at the bottom. We went back to the sign and at the bottom below the fine print are the dates for February! It's mid December. Now usually I'm pretty good at spotting the catch in deals, but I missed this one and feel tricked. If the intent was not to mislead then the dates of the promotion should have been more obvious. The manager would do nothing for me. As it stands I am out $17 from my meal that could have gone towards my purchase. Left with a bad taste in my mouth. read more

I go there for their food. I know I know, it's a furniture store, but their food choices are much more appealing and all the prices you see are tax included. It's a huge place to walk through. First last and only time to shop there. i live 50 miles from store so i called to see if i could put 200 dollar item on my debit card and have son pick it up with his truck was rudly told no i had to order on line and pay 350 .00 for shipping. so i drove the 50 miles walked for at least 20 minutes to find checkout finally ask they said downstairs i passed stairs 3 x then still had to walk at least 15 more to get to check out then loaded 4 heavy boxes on cart and outside ask load clerk to load it... read more

IKEA is a great place to shop! Yes, it's big and yes, you'll spend a lot of time in there if you don't know what you want, but it's worth the prices! Weekends are very crowded so go on weekdays! The only thing that sucks is seeing rude, lazy, fat customers who treat the staff like garbage. :( It's not their fault something is out of stock, or there are components that aren't located side by side... if you're not prepared to walk or lift or search, find a fit, sane person who can go for you! read more

I bought one of their six drawer malm dressers and while I was building it, like an idiot I somehow punctured the top part of the dresser. The part that everybody sees. I was so depressed I thought I had literally just ruined the entire dresser, but I figured it was worth a shot to bring it back in and maybe they would help me out. I had already built the entire dresser and definitely am not strong enough to carry it completely built all the way down two flights of stairs and into my car nor would it fit in my car. So I decided to bring just the top part that had been busted. I figured they would laugh me out of the building. Instead to my shock and surprise they gave me a new top to the dresser didn't even ask for the receipt and gave me all the little parts and pieces to put the top of the dresser back on. They gave me no issues whatsoever and were very pleasant so now my dresser looks perfect and I didn't have to build it twice!and everybody knows building IKEA furniture even once it is not fun nor a small feat lol. read more

So I love IKEA and have shopped there many times, but recently I placed an online order. I canceled the order the next day (after waiting an hour on hold to reach customer service). It is now 15 days later an they still have not issued my refund. I called again and after 90 minutes on hole (no joke), they said they have finally released my money. I still don't have my money back, but I will never shop IKEA online again and probably won't enter their store. In this day, customer service and easy returns are to be expected. Never thought I would buy something like kitchen cabinets at IKEA. Meatballs and kitchen trinkets have been my typical purchases. Very helpful with the layout of the kitchen - cool online layout tool. Selection is great but didn't offer exactly what I wanted. Ended up buying the cabinet "boxes" and using a third party for custom doors. No issues with the order- delivered on time with no damage. Surprisingly good quality with an unbelievable warranty. Suggest doing your doors outside of IKEA - better quality and pretty good pricing. The IKEA savings allowed me to upgrade to Thermador appliances! read more

I am a fan of their products except the HOUSEPLANTS. I bought all my houseplants from IKEA on the same day and now I am battling the flying knat like insects that live and breed in the soil. I don't know why everyone gives the store in Tempe a good review. I just went today to make a simple purchase of a table and chair for my grandson and it was a nightmare. I have never liked the layout of IKEA, finding it confusing and illogical. Sure enough I was trying to find the children's section. No signs, and no sign of anyone work working on the floor. I wander around and finally find it, pick out what I want and get a shopping cart. That's where I hit my first major snag. The cart doesn't wheel right. It goes all over the place. I decide to ditch it and get one in self service figuring they have to have them there also. Of course they don't because that would be logical. I happen upon one that was left there and guess what? That one also doesn't wheel right. Like the other one it wheels all over the place. I can barely control it. I press on tho to get my items and can't find one of them but there are workers there so I ask one about the missing item. He has to call someone in that dept. Really? You can't just help me find the right bin? While I'm waiting I find the item myself and struggle to get the cart to one of only two cashiers working. To get the sale price of my items, I find out I have to belong to the IKEA family. At this point I don't want to belong to this moronic family but I want my discount. I'm told I have to join at the kiosk. Its pointed out to me by a worker running from me. Nice. I can't get the kiosk to work. No help around now. Another customer asks the cashier who gives us forms to fill out to get the card. Apparently after you go to the kiosk you have to fill out this paperwork for the card anyway. Huh? And why didn't the cashier tell me that in the first place? I'm now beginning to suspect the workers are sadists who like to see us suffer. I purchase my items but now I have to figure out how to get my uncontrollable cart out of the store and to my car. I find that heaving the cart away from me gets it to move the most feet. I crash it into a wine rack. I don't care there are no workers around anyway. I heave it some more and manage to get it out the door to my car. It took me an hour and a half to purchase a simple table and chair. I don't plan on visiting my new 'family' ever again. read more

I used to love Ikea, but over the years, it seems everything I have purchased from them has gone to crap. The furniture, if you are able to assemble it, has as very short lifespan. It looks great and trendy for a year or so, but then it starts to fall apart. The kitchen stuff looks great on the pricetag as well - but its mostly all junk. The kitchen knives I bought a year ago are now worthless....I ended up having to get a nicer set somewhere else, so I didn't really save any money in the end. The only thing I would recommend them for is things you don't use or don't touch - things like decorations. Fun place to shop around though and try to pronounce swedish names - just don't buy anything and you'll be fine! read more

Ikea has singlehandedly furnished my first home, and I love it! Although it is a lot of work to put together some of the furniture, it is so rewarding when you finish, wipe off all your nasty sweat, and bask in the glory of all that is Ikea. Everything is so modern and cool here. I love spending the day with my husband here, browsing through the little rooms they have put together and lusting after paintings and such that would never match anything in our home. We take a lot of pride in our home and would never accept cheap looking furniture, however, there has been a time or two when the furniture was bent or scratched and we didn't realized it until it was all put together. Overall, I feel like the prices here are awesome for what you get. We recently bought and assembled the Hemnes TV unit, and it may be my very favorite item I have bought here to date. We have more to do to the house, and we will continue to head straight to Ikea to do the job. read more

Men if you want to be free of your women for a day and want less money in your bank account then send them over to Ikea, LOL. If you choose to make the trek with them bring both of your cell phones since its very big and can easily get seperated from each other. I have been here a few times and I can tell you I HATE!!!!! the shopping carts with a passion if you get something heavy bring the car or truck to the loading area since the carts wheels go every which way, yes even sideways and the ground is uneven so you will find yourself fighting the cart all the way to the truck. There are some pretty good deals here but others are just as good as anywhere else. I cant speak for build quality for every item but if you like things for China this is your place. they also have a children play area but you only have a one hour limit so you will find yourself half way through the store coming back to pick up your child. I recently bought 2 Espevar mattress bases for my twins. They are solid and super easy to assemble. However I did run into issues with the middle support, first of on one bed then the other. I had bought the shorter legs and even with the middle support twisted up to its shortest setting it seemed just a tad too long still. Eventually the resulting instability caused the leg to break off and pull some of the wood out of the center board. I took pictures and waited in line at the store after taking a number, hopeful that they would be able to get me replacement parts. But after waiting my turn I was told I had to take the bed apart and bring in the broken parts. It was frustrating only because I didn't want to disassemble things until I had the parts in hand to reassemble. In the meantime my son would be without a bed, which is the only piece of furniture in his room. But I kind of understood, so I waited to a following weekend. In the meantime the same thing happened to my other son's bed. I took both beds apart and waited in line again. I exchanged the shorter legs for the longer ones in hopes that the center support won't break this time. They gave me replacement center boards and everything is put back together. Hopefully it will all last this time. I feel I got pretty good service, but the fact that the product failed due to what appeared to be incompatible parts made for a frustrating experience. I will call Ikea corporate and let them know of my experience so they can hopefully update their documentation to only use the longer legs with the Espevar, as well as to fix the inconsistent labeling of part numbers between two of the assembly instructions. This is something the Ikea employee and I noticed while looking thru the documentation. read more

Low quality experience overall. To start off with I got there and the AC was 2 degrees too cold. My hands were clammy. I don't enjoy shopping for low end furniture with clammy hands. As I made my way through the store I realized it was a maze. Two hours into my journey i realized I had walked by the same Swedish living room half a dozen times. I was beginning to become dehydrated. I searched the floor tirelessly for a water fountain but to no avail. I hate to admit it but the world must know. I went to a setup of a small room and pulled a bear grylls. Yes, I drank my own urine. It was bitter but quenched my thirst. I laid down for a nap to try and regain my strength. I don't know who designed the place but the architecture leads to every small danish mumble employees being amplified 12 times over. I couldn't sleep, I just became more discombobulated. After 8 more tireless hours I made it out. The doors seemed like a mirage just poking fun at me, but bless the lord they were real. I purchased a thing of rope so the next time I came in I could tie it to the front door and never lose my way again. But before that time came I had to help a friend pull his truck out of mud. I confidently grabbed my ikea rope and tried to pull him out. It snapped, instantly. As did my heart. It's a disgrace that the Eastern European commies would sell such low quality rope. I guess they save all the good rope to hang their own citizens. I wasn't planning on coming back but my mother is making me get a nightstand for my sexual-orientation confused sister. I ordered Bollolvon curtains for my new business. The website had them in two styles one, with the kronill tape to hang on a curtain track and the other with grommets. My intention was to use them for a room divider so I needed the pair with the kronill tape. Buyer beware, the picture is the wrong picture for the item online. I agree with the reviewer who said they have a "love/hate" relationship with this store. I don't shop here very often, but I needed a sleeper sofa, and after much on-line shopping, decided to go to IKEA, chiefly because it sits higher and has a washable cover over a mattress. I went today, 11-29-16, especially since I was off work and IKEA was advertising 15% off "sofas," ending today. Then when I got to checkout they said this is not a "sofa," but a "futon" and therefore not eligible for the discount. I joined their "family" and got a free cup of coffee, but I am not happy with that. DON'T call an item a "sofa" if you're not considering it as such. I wanted to argue with the sales associate/asst. manager, or whoever she was, but figured I'd write this review and not make a fuss in the line. I hope they are paying attention. After months trying to get missing parts from a new bed that was missing from the moment i purchased it, and then ikea sending the wrong ones twice and numerous calls to the corporate office, I finally received the right parts. corporate office promised me a gift card for my troubles which I received today. I Will NEVER go there again! Spent hours designing a unit at their store & on their software only to trudge through the huge warehouse to find they were OUT of three items for my wall unit. Why didn't it tell me that when I was designing it on their awful new software. They told me I could pay $100.00 to deliver the boxes I did find & then wait & pay a $100.00 delivery/part when they came in...had NO idea when that would be. They said they hadn't had the cabinet door for two months. Seriously? This place SUCKS!!! EVERY part was on display on their floor. FIVE HOURS LATER we left with NOTHING! Who puts up with this crap & then hands over their hard earned money for their poorly made junk. The unit I "designed" was expensive.
