I recently purchased two end tables and a dresser from Ikea, along with the assembly & delivery service. I was told my furniture would be delivered on Monday, September 9th between the hours of 2PM-6PM. I took 1/2 the day off from work to be available during that time. By 5:40PM with no word from the delivery men or Ikea, I grew concerned there may be an issue.
After it taking 30 minutes on the phone to get through to a live person, I asked for any information available regarding my delivery, as I was concerned there may have been a problem. I was put on hold for another 10 minutes.
When the woman finally returned, she said she had bad news. She told me the crew was not going to arrive until 8:30PM.
As you can imagine, I was quite upset. I had been sitting around since 2pm for nothing and could have finished out my work day. To add insult to injury, no one from Ikea OR the delivery company bothered to inform me they would be 2 1/2 hours later than the latest I had already been expecting.
When I asked the woman what assurance I had the delivery crew would actually be there by 8:30, she suggested I call the deliver company directly to confirm. She added however, that she had just spoken with them while I was on hold for 10 minutes, and they assured her they'd be at my place by 8:30. The woman from Ikea said she'd reimburse my credit card the delivery fee, and apologized saying there was nothing more she could do. I took down the number of the delivery company and called them directly.
After explaining the story to the woman who answered at the delivery company, I asked her to verify the crew would definitely arrive by or before 8:30pm. She put me on hold for several minutes, and came back saying that SHE had bad news. She said my delivery had been cancelled, and that I'd need to reschedule for the following day. At that point, I was beyond upset. I explained there was no way I was going to accept a delivery the following day as I had planned my work around this, not anticipating the delivery becoming such a nightmare. She put me on hold again. After several more minutes went by, she came back and said the crew was going to arrive at 10PM. After having been waiting since 2pm, and at that point it was already 6:15pm I explained to her how upset I was. I asked her what assurance I'd have they'd even show up by 10pm, to which she replied "that is why we need to cancel today." Repeating myself, and telling her this was completely unacceptable, she transfers me to someone else without making me aware.
Completely unprofessionally, a man says hello. He does not state his name, title, or bother to ask how he could help me.
I asked who I was speaking with, and he says "Jim." I asked, "Are you the manager, Jim?" He replied yes. I explained the woman on the phone didn't bother to tell me she was transferring me to a manager. I explained the whole situation to him, and he tells me he already knew, and found out only 10 minutes prior. He asked me if I could reschedule for the following day, and I told him I had gone to a lot of trouble to schedule the 9th from 2-6pm, and could not take any more time off work to receive the furniture another day.
He apologized and blamed himself, which was of absolutely no consolation to me. I had not been screaming at anyone, but that is how I felt inside. He put me on hold, while he called the delivery people. He came back and said he couldn't reach them. He then said he'd call their boss. At that point, he explained how you subcontract his company, and they subcontract another company. After another 15 minutes of back and forth between holding and brief conversation, he tells me that he re-scheduled the crew to be at my house at 7:30pm. Obviously I was glad to hear that, but it was ridiculous that I had to go through so much trouble to have my stuff delivered. He said they'd be there at 7:30, took down my phone number and said he'd call me if there was a problem.
At 7:15pm, Jim calls me back to inform me the crew will not be there until 7:45. He said if they weren't there by 7:45pm, I should call him to let him know. At 7:45pm, there is no sign of the crew. I call back Jim to let him know. He puts me on hold, then comes back and says it's going to be another 30-40 minutes!!!!! I can't even begin to tell you how I was feeling!!!!! At this point, I have no choice but to wait. 30 minutes later, at 8:15 I get a call from the delivery men. They inform me that it will be an additional 30-40 minutes!!!!!
Finally, at 8:42pm they show up. There were three of them, and took around 1 hour to finish. One of them was complaining to me how tired he was, which is completely unprofessional. I just wanted them to finish their job and leave. It wasn't until about 10:00pm that they finally left.
To say that I am utterly disgusted with Ikea and its horrendous delivery company is a massive understatement. read more
