Received damaged goods, sent 3 mails with no response. Tried to contact them by phone to no avail......

DO NOT purchase any furniture or other large items online and expect to receive them with any semblance of order or reliability. I don't have a car, so I ordered a dresser, wardrobe, bookcase, and other items for my baby's nursery online. In retrospect, I would have saved myself massive headaches if I'd rented a U-Haul for $20, but I'm pregnant and can't lift the boxes. I placed my order online and for $99 was promised a delivery by 1/23. Ikea followed up with an email confirming that my items would arrive Thursday, 1/23 and that their delivery service, Dynamex, would call to arrange a delivery window. Dynamex never called; I tried contacting them and reached nothing but a full voicemail box. When I did reach a person, all I was told was that someone would call me back within an hour (this happened several times). Ikea wasn't much help, either; I was on hold for 20-30 minutes and again was told someone would call me back within the hour. No one ever called, from either company. Finally I reached someone at Dynamex who told me my delivery was being rescheduled for Friday. Great, I'd already taken one day off work to wait for the delivery. I asked if they could confirm the new date and was told "Absolutely, I 100% guarantee your delivery will arrive between 10 and 2 tomorrow." So, I took another day off work, got in trouble with the boss for it, and just received a call that they are rescheduling my delivery AGAIN for either Saturday or Sunday. So much for guarantees - or reliability. At this point I wonder if the delivery will arrive before this baby comes. Could be interesting. I checked out Dynamex on Yelp and there are reviews across the board just like mine. I don't understand how a company like Ikea can continue to use a service like Dynamex with so many horrible reviews and extremely unhappy customers. Makes me think twice about shopping at Ikea again. I am seriously considering canceling the whole order and demanding a refund. read more

Great selection of furniture & home items. We love shopping at IKEA for the prices & selections. This location however was eh .. just ok. First, they need a better system at the cafe. There is no clear direction on where to stand or line up causing people to either cut in front of an actual line or stand there clueless. The good thing about the food is that it's pretty cheap & great when you need a break from looking at everything in the store. Second, they have no way of looking up your IKEA Family card if you don't have the card. No phone # lookup or anything. My cashier, Sue, was very rude & disrespectful about it. I only asked if there was a way to look up my card & she starts telling me how they don't look it up & that I need to go to www.ikea.com/blah blah blah blah blah or I can go to returns, return everything I paid for then ring it all up again with my card. She needed a better attitude & less lecture on the whole thing. I told her to just stop & that it was ok that she couldn't look it up. She didn't need to rant on about it. THEN she tells me I should've downloaded it on the app! Oh after that rude remark I was done with her. I told her AGAIN to stop & just give me my receipt. Just apologize that for some weird reason IKEA does not have the capabilities to look up a card. Why they can't have a system too look up a card, I don't know. A lot of other businesses can do it. They need to fix that. I can understand the complaints about the layout. It was a little confusing. I did come on a weekend & it was really busy. So if you do happen to be here on a weekend just breath, focus on your list not the craziness of people around you, if someone gets in your personal space don't panic, & if at all possible look at the bright side :) Good luck everybody! read more

Do NOT Trust this store, this company not their Customer Service. Failed to send the lower corner cabinet I paid for, and sent 2 of 3 WRONG counter tops and will not correct their (they admitted it is theirs) error. They expect me to drive 6 hours to fix their screw ups!!!!! You spend $5,000 for a kitchen, you should expect to receive what you pay for. But they found it laughable, and said well you can drive over here and exchange the wrong things. I think not. Be very wary of their service. If you can cash & carry... probably ok, but don't trust them for anything big!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I'm still a bit in shock as I write this review. This company seemingly does everything possible not to provide service. Most companies do this after they have your money but IKEA starts at the beginning. Hey - at least they are consistent. I had two items that I knew I wanted to buy, totaling $275. I attempted to order online to find that delivery was $129. I literally LOL-ed at this outrageous price, but I resolved to drive the 45 minutes the next weekend and buy them myself since it appeared to still be a good value. TOTAL TIME WASTED: 20 MINUTES Flash forward to next weekend. I decide to go buy the items, but obviously I want to confirm they are in stock first. I try to do this online. The website is difficult to navigate and when I'm looking at the item it is ambiguous as to whether it is in stock at the location I want or just generally that IKEA carries this item. The best I find is a something that says "expected to be in stock at your location." Yea... that's not going to get the job done buddy. TOTAL TIME WASTED: 40 MINUTES I decide to call the store. This will be better anyways. Maybe they will can just set the items aside for me at the register and I can come grab them and be in and out. Oh how naive and innocent I was. I search for their phone number. I'm only able to find an 888 area code customer service number - obviously not the Schaumburg location. Whatever. I call the number. Busy signal. What? I call again. Busy signal. Ok now I'm angry. TOTAL TIME WASTED: 55 MINUTES Now furious, I scour the internet again looking for the Schaumburg number. Surely this individual store can help me. They are probably just as frustrated with their corporate overlords' bureaucracy as I am. Success! I find the number. I call them. "If you know your party's extension, dial it now. For customer service, hang up and dial 888-......" AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hang up and try the 888 number again. Busy signal. I call the local store again and remain on the line through the whole automated message. "If you still need assistance, dial # now." I do so and am disconnected. I throw my phone at the wall. TOTAL TIME WASTED: 1 HOUR 20 MINUTES TOTAL PIECES OF FURNITURE PURCHASED: 0 TOTAL HUMANS TALKED TO: 0 On the positive side, total dollars spent was also 0. read more

I purchased my items and scheduled for delivery. Only a portion of the items were delivered. Their customer service was bad, slow and unhelpful. It took me a whole month to get all the items delivered. I only got a call back after I went to the Better Business Bureau and reported them. While I love the prices and furniture at IKEA, their customer service has been one disappointment after another. read more

If it is one thing I learned about IKEA, besides having affordable prices, is to never order home delivery again. I placed an order online and called back to cancel an item. Unfortunately, my order was processed. The rep said I could deny my purchase once it was delivered and I would receive a full refund on the items refused. The delivery service they use is not very good. I signed the delivery receipt with notes on the items refused, but the company refused to give me a copy. I am part of the 1% of people who does not own a smartphone. Now getting someone on the phone was a nightmare. I called 5 times with a minimum hold time of 30min and max an hour! It took them 4 weeks to process the refund and when I did receive it, they didn't give me a full refund. When I called back, they opened another case # and told me someone would call me back....which was a lie! I am on the phone again and so far I have been on hold for 33 minutes to speak with someone. It has been exactly 8 weeks from my very first phone call to IKEA to ensure I get my full refund. With IKEA, you really need to know what you want. Refunds and customer service are something they do not specialize in. read more

Very bad experience. I spent $6000 on a new kitchen. Delivery was 5 hours late. A couple of the packages were someone else's orders with their name and address on them. I took them back to IKEA to exchange them for the parts I did not receive. Their attitude was "How do I know you're missing items?" "Because I have someone else's order?" "How do I know that?" This is coming from the manager, Josh. He told me that I would to repurchase the parts in the my order and they will do a check with the warehouse which will take a week. I need the parts to complete my kitchen. Poor delivery system. Some of the parts were damaged as well. read more

I typically avoid this place like the plague but when you are married, every now and then you have to take one for the team. It is not a terrible place, but definitely a time suck. It is cool in a way, and a great way to get lots of ideas. The food court on the second level is an absolute design nightmare, what sadistic person came up with this?! The flow (wait, there is one?) is a complete cluster at best; and do not even get me started on the little food tray mobile carts that take a bad situation and absolutely blows it up to worse. Speaking of flow, if you get a bottle of water, you still have to wait for the people that opted for the soda fountain to finish getting their beverages just to get past to the sitting area. Everything about this place is a trap. I do appreciate that they make the effort to include some healthy eat options so thank you for that. As you wander through the labyrinth that is IKEA you follow the sign prompts like the shopping lemming you are just trying to find the exit. I have heard that there is a map that highlights the shortcuts to hasten escape, but I have not discovered this map to date. When you finally reach the bottom warehouse where everyone selects their wares to check out, you have more food and shopping options. The final highlight of the tour, they hit you with the cinnamon sticky buns at the exit. read more

Ordered home delivery. They never showed up after we rearranged our schedules and made sure that we were home for the 4 hour window they provided. I called the next morning, they said the truck was full and they couldn't fit our sofa. Fine, but we didn't receive a phone call and completely wasted our time!! I've been on the phone trying to reschedule the delivery for a total of 3 hours, after being disconnected 2x, and now I can't reach them because "all the circuits are busy". WORST customer service ever. read more

If you walk around here long enough, you're going to find something you want or need, and you can bank on the fact that it will be pretty cheap. I have some issues with the quality of a lot of their products, but you're not coming here to buy furniture that you can expect to hand down to your grandkids one day. I really like a lot of the setups they have for kitchens and bedrooms- it makes it easy to try to design a room for yourself. Plus, the staff is very helpful. With the exception of the Marshall Fields on State Street, this is the biggest store I've ever been in... three floors of pretty much everything. So, the restaurant is a nice place to sit down, take a break, and have a nice meal for the change you find in the cushions of your couch. A friend of a friend speculated that the meals are subsidized by the Swedish government ("otherwise, how could it be so cheap?"). I usually grab a cup of lingonberry juice and then carry it around the store and grab refills a few times, filling up once more "for the road" before heading home. Then it's like a race with the devil to get home and answer nature's call, but that's okay. read more

Do not go here on a weekend! Just don't. DON'T. The store becomes hard to maneuver because it is so crowded, and it is impossible to find anyone who works there if you need help. They have only a few registers open, with lines going back into the merchandise. They were also actively restocking things that were not empty, which only made it harder to get to other things. I had to return a few items from a previous trip, and I arrived 30 minutes after they opened. You have to take a #, have a seat, and they will call you. I waited 45 minutes to be called. People were visibly upset about the wait times and return process. They were rotating who was handling returns, and even though at one point there were over 30 people in line, they only had one woman doing returns. She definitely was not in a hurry to help anyone, either. It was not the most efficient set-up I've ever seen. Nothing in the store was. read more

I mean, what's not to love about a giant store full of cheap furniture, bright colors, and is so big it needs to have a food area? Wander around, get lost, buy stuff. But bring a water bottle, comfy shoes and for god's sake don't go on a Sunday. read more

IKEA has been the worst experience for furniture and for beds. First, you can't order merchandise from another city which is entirely inconvenient and inefficient. After talking to ikea, you can order online but for delivery only. I was looking to have it assembled as well. When it was going to be assembled, the third party logistics provider, XPO was unable to assemble the bed or the dresser. We paid for the dresser to be assembled. We had to pay additional money to have it assembled because it could not attach to the base board, which Ikea previously did not disclose. We ended up paying more money to have that assembled, which was completely ridiculous. The bed, which we thought was paid to be assembled, was apparently not included with Ikea. Essentially, we had to pay more money for assembly and the assembly that was done was overpriced. All in all, a terrible experience read more

Yeah, there was a time a few years back when I was caught up in "IKEA Fever", I'd go regularly to load up a big heavy cart with big heavy furnture parts, wait in line forever to pay for it, load it in & out of my car, lug the whole mess up to my flat, and spend hours assembling what I bought, just to save a few $$. Sound like a lot of hassle? It was, and that's why I no longer shop there regularly. The rule of thumb is - if the time you'll spend waiting, lugging, and assembling is worth more to you than the extra money you'd pay for pre-assembled furniture w/ professional delivery, then IKEA may not be for you, at least not for furniture. They do have cute, inexpensive housewares & small furnishings that might be worth a trip, as long as you go on a day/time when the store is not so crazy crowded. The cheap Swedish fare they sell in their cafeteria is pretty good too. read more

How I miss Ikea after moving to Milwaukee. Fortunately, this location in Schaumburg is within driving distance. Ikea is discounted furniture and home accessory store with cafeteria. Cheap food at the cafeteria, but I wouldn't recommend getting any food here. The products are relatively stylish, but the build qualities are pretty lacking for the most part. Many furniture pieces won't last very long, and I would stay away from the kitchenware. However, there are still many good bargains. You kind of have to know what to get. I like the showrooms, which provide good inspiration for home decoration. The layout here is a bit confusing compare to other Ikea locations. read more

There's not much to say. . . it's IKEA-- the land of cheap, sleek household items and professionally-done displays that look like they came right out of the IKEA catalog. In my early twenties, I loved IKEA, and nearly 100% of my apartment furnishings came from there. You could quite easily furnish a small one bedroom apartment for under $1,000. In my thirties, and now a homeowner, my tastes are starting to lean more towards richly stained solid wood furniture (or at least a mix of traditional, contemporary, and modern), but I still love going to IKEA once a year or so. The people who say IKEA furniture doesn't hold up over the long term probably have never had IKEA furniture or are using it in such conditions that no furniture from any place would be expected to hold up. I had a platform bedframe, coffee table, nesting side tables, and small kitchen table and chairs that have not only held up, but still appear brand new, after more than a decade. My dresser has held up for eight years now. A set of metal nightstands purchased last year still look brand new and the drawers still slide open as easy as they did when we first got them. A metal and glass TV stand I bought over a decade ago and gave away to a coworker's son who is in college is holding up just fine even though he and his roommates have been using it as a coffee table and shelving unit. I've been to four IKEA stores that I can recall: Schaumburg, IL, Bolingbrook, IL, West Chester, OH, and Toronto, Ontario. Of the four, the Schaumburg location is the best, and has the largest selection and easiest-to-navigate layout. read more

Tons of parking, and close to the highway. Love the floor where you can see and test all of their items. Plus the elevator is VERY convenient for a stroller. The cafe has delish food for just a few bucks! You have to put together the furniture yourself, but of course that's what keeps the prices down. The best part is that you can find cheap dorm furniture there as well as upscale furniture pieces for your home. So you can literally shop there from your high school years until your grown-up years. Awesome! read more

In general, I'm more critical of large chains like this one. If you are looking for cheap, IKEA does cheap better than anywhere else. But it is an expensive cheap considering you assemble the furniture yourself. If you have to keep buying the same furniture over and over, the value isn't so good. I would recommend their higher priced lines. The furniture isn't durable. Savvy customers will soon learn that if it must be cheap, older used furniture offers a better value, especially if you have it refinished or learn to do it yourself. When I think of Scandinavian furniture, I think of teak but apparently the Swedes have eschewed that in favor of glass and modern materials. The wood used by IKEA in this type of furniture is from illegal logging in Russian forests of the east. In their defense, they do provide "guidelines" but nothing concrete. One can hope IKEA is today a different company from it and its founder's dark shady past of the 40's and 50's. Their accessories are where you can get good deals at this store. read more

My word of advice for IKEA newbies is have what you NEED written down or you will end up buying the entire store!!! Bring a friend, big car, comfortable shoes, an open-mind and positive attitude. I can't tell you how many times I've been here and I've come across people bickering. IKEA is not the place to vent or complain about life to your significant other just because you don't know what type of sheets or dresser to buy; don't ruin the experience for others! If you really are just lost, confused and/or overwhelmed go grab an Ice-cream cone and chill out. I personally love daydreaming and prancing about in each of the display rooms. It's so much fun, really. What other place can you actually pretend you're in your dream kitchen? It's a great place to get ideas and think of all the 'could be's'. The items are decently priced for what you're getting. I recommend the picture matte frames!! Have fun and enjoy the ride. read more

Gotta love IKEA. Madly busy on the weekends, but full of interesting things and good ideas for wherever you live.

The big blue box is good to poor little me. Just spent three days in this store collecting items for my new place. Found lots of good little things- cheap kitchen stuff, candles, their curtains are a steal! Thankfully, I have finally graduated from buying furniture from Ikea- my last bed began squeaking every time I moved after only two weeks- not a good situation for one with roommates. It is fun to browse and always an exciting trip out. Minus one star for the difficulty in getting there- be careful, even the directions on the website aren't right! read more

I will not order from IKEA again or shop there. I am incredibly disappointed. We paid $15 to return a rug via the post office and we were never refunded the $200 we paid for it upon returning it. I have sent emails and haven't received a response back. I've called the Customer Service number and the call can never "be completed as dialed." The number listed for the actual store is the same as the generic Customer Service number. So now IKEA has the rug that we returned, AND our $215 for the rug and the cost to return it, which is infuriating and unacceptable. read more

I will never buy something from Ikea again. My husband and I purchased a computer desk and ended up having to return it because they brought the wrong desk. Fine. It happens. Then I try calling to re-schedule. Their customer service phone number is horrible. Sometimes it doesn't ring. If it rings, there is an automated message that all lines are busy. No matter what time you call and it just hangs up on you. If you do finally get through the automated system, you have to wait for hours. I waited for over an hour and nobody picked up. I had to hang up. So we decided to go to the store to set up the return. Of course the lines are ridiculous. But fine, it's a store, we'll get over it. We schedule the return. They say they'll call a day before to confirm the time. NEVER got a call from them. So I tried calling their number again and the same problems happen. Can't get through. Then the day they are supposed to pick up the item, i get a call from the driver saying that they are at my house. I tell him what happened and he admits that a lot of customers have the same problems with Ikea that they do not call to confirm time and that other customers can't get through their customer service line either. So...now I have to go back to the store to re-schedule it because of course, their line isn't working...again. I will never buy anything from Ikea again. Their quality isn't even good, but again that's why you have cheap prices and crappy customer service. read more

The designs get more weird and the prices have gone up. Most of the furniture is okay but nowhere near high quality and not meant to last long. Some of it is made of very soft wood wood that gets damaged very easily. Bought once and wouldn't do it gain. Some stuff is very decent but there is also a lot of junk. You get what you pay for. Wow, never, ever again. First, I will clarify - this was for an order placed online that was fulfilled (from what they said) out of the Schaumberg store. Ikea sent two of everything I ordered. We couldn't figure out why there were so many boxes (all coated in dirt) and opened them up - only to find two toddler beds, two footstools, etc. I sent an email to their customer service department, thinking they'd be happy to know that they had misplaced all this stuff. I received a one-line reply: "Thanks for letting us know!". Hello?? I'm a nice person. I wrote back. I told them if i didn't hear anything else from them, I was donating the second shipment to a local charity. That did get a response - saying that they would contact me in 48-72 hours with more details. A week later, I had heard nothing from them, and my doorbell starts ringing. An apologetic Fedex guy is telling me he's hear for "package pick up". What package?? Turns out Ikea did manage to contact Fedex (even though they somehow forgot to tel me!) and sent a guy to pick up the stuff. Since they didn't bother to tell me, though, I didn't have anything in a box. I had unpacked it to see what it all was. So the poor Fedex guy is now driving around with a truck full of various Ikea parts, Ikea still has not reached out despite another email from me -- and I will not shop there ever again! This review pertains to the Kitchen and Installation Services group at IKEA, Traemand, and Main Street Remodeling (Arlington Heights). This whole experience has been an entire waste of time. I paid $200 for a kitchen planning appoinment, waiting weeks for availability, only to have Main Street Remodeling and Traemand cancel after my appointment was already supposed to have started. Traemand offered to come out in another week, making a Saturday exception for little ol' me. What kind of home improvement and/or remodeling outfit doesn't ordinarily work on Saturdays??? I'm now 5 weeks into this project and am still at square one. IKEA: Understaffed. Inconsiderate. Government style customer service. I am absolutely frustrated with multiple recent experiences with IKEA and their Kitchen partner, Traemond. It is extremely disappointing that IKEA is following the pitfalls that are rampant in the "home improvement" industry. Lack of customer service. Inability to easily schedule appointments. IKEA Understaffed: IKEA is doing it's big kitchen sale during March and April. You would think that they would manage staffing appropriately, knowing that demand will increase during this time. And also given the fact that now that winter is on the outs, people will be starting their home improvement projects. I had to make 3 trips to IKEA just to get an appointment scheduled to measure out the kitchen and get the appropriate parts ordered. I also spent more than 2 hours on hold, trying to reach IKEA by phone. This could easily be remedied if they let customers book appointments with Kitchen planners online. On multiple evenings there was only 1 person staffed in the entire kitchen area. I walked the and there were only 2 or 3 employees on the entire floor. I had to wave down a cleaner to call a manager to help. IKEA Horrible Customer Service: They have no way of creating a queue to manage customers. You just have to stand around and hope you get time with an employee. And God forbid you directly ask an employee about wait times or asking for additional help. With respect to Traemand, they actually use a nice scheduling software called project turf. The downside is that you have no way to update information, like correcting the wrong phone number. Power outages: On my final trip to IKEA to get the appointment scheduled, their electricians kept cutting the power to the ordering terminals. I had to go through the process of inputting my information multiple times. Ikea got my phone number wrong, causing an issue communicating with Traemand and Main Street Remodeling (because evidently they don't read or respond to email). read more

Ahhh, welcome to the land of ready-to-assemble Swedish crap. Wait, that sounds bad. I mean, they've got some great stuff, and most of it is well-priced. However, I have found that some of their furniture isn't up to snuff. Some of it is cheaply-made. A lot of items have really cool designs, though, and if you walk around long enough (and you will, this place is confusing!) you can find some things that you never knew you always needed! This place is massive and very easy to get lost in. I like it and all, but my head is always spinning by the time I leave. What can I say, it's an IKEA... you get IKEA things at IKEA prices with the IKEA dining experience to boot. It can't be bad right? We've been here numerous times since we moved to IL to pick up the "essentials" and of course those things you don't even know you need until you see them at IKEA. As always, the assembly of said necessities goes fairly well with some "what the heck is that a photo of" and "is this the right piece" moments... but the IKEA experience doesn't stop at the store so this extension into the home just gives you more warm-n-fuzzies. We did purchase a kitchen from here during their most recent sale and I will say that we were absolutely blown away by the staff member who helped us finalize our plans and complete the sale. She was knowledgeable, patient and all around wonderful, making a somewhat stressful experience that much more pleasant. We have not installed said kitchen yet, but that's the extended IKEA experience right? Can't wait, it's going to be way more "fun" than that bed and wardrobe we bought and that fun should extend for weeks maybe! I will say that we had all of the kitchen cabinets, appliances etc. delivered to our home after purchase. The entire thing could have been delivered as early as the next day for $59 total... that includes them loading their truck, driving to your home and unloading all of it into your house... WOW! What a bargain that was! In response to other's posts about picking up the various pieces to complete a product... I admit it can be kind of confusing, but they really do inform you what you need and where it is located if you take the time to actually read the signs and double check your items before leaving. Always be sure to check the clearance room before you leave. More than once I have found what I had gone there for, or something very similar and picked it up for up to or more than 1/2 the asking price. Another section where you need to be patient, really look at what is being sold and make sure you have all the pieces, but you can get some excellent deals. read more
