Pleasantly surprised how nice their food court was. Japanese inspired with a very open space plan. When I was there on the second floor a large gathering of trading card enthusiasts. It's also great for remote work. There plenty of options for food. Unfortunately there were any Swedish meatballs available when I got there. The department store seems fine. It's a bit smaller than the Emeryville one or it seems. I didn't see much staff wondering around guess it's more of a self discovery shopping experience. Value is ok. I don't usually shop here but plenty of college kids and something quick for your apartment or some decorations for the office.

Late post from 9/27/25 - Happy 40th Anniversary to Ikea and many more to come. So glad Ikea is in the SF downtown area conveniently located next to the Powell Muni station. Always manage to find something for the home and kitchen at reasonable prices. Staff are friendly and helpful.

We were in the area early for a show and decided to check out the IKEA store located on Market St. between 5th and 6th Sts. The store is smaller city style format with 52,000 sq ft over three floors. The store items are focused on the urban lifestyle. The selection was limited compared to the Emeryville store, where I normally shop. At Emeryville, the store is about 300,000 sq ft or about 5 times the size. The restaurant here is smaller and the menu selection were limited to two entrees, Swedish meatballs and salads versus four at Emeryville. Also, there is no free parking here since there isn't a dedicated parking lot. Glad IKEA has a city concept store in SF. But to get a full flavor of an IKEA store, you need to shop the full-scale store in Emeryville.

I only went to the foodcourt area. It was so lively! So many options of food choices too. There was Bingo being played. Anyone could play. If I wasn't in a hurry to go watch a Broadway show, I definitely would have stayed. It looked fun! Even though there were so many food options, I really just wanted the traditional Sweedish meatballs. The service was quick for our Sweedish meatballs. Tasted great! Came with peas and mashed potatoe. Cost seemed reasonable. I think it was worth. Apparently, they have events here often in their food court area. If I am ever in town, I will have to come back and check it out.

I went to IKEA today and bought a new plant and some new organization stuff for my drawers and my utensils. The total price was about 40 bucks which is a really reasonable price and it comes in clutch as well because it makes my drawers look so organized and I'm loving my new plant. The value is very good as well. The plants are A+ quality all the decor and decorations that are now in my place feels like it's more organized and I don't have to waste time looking around and searching for my utensils.

So I had to go to IKEA 2 days in a row and I have to say the customer service I received in the store was very good. Even though it seemed like floor coverage was light the workers were moving around and helping where they could. Only area that would lose stars would be the restaurant. The food was good but the workers energy was like a zombie, no engagement or even a smile. I had rather deal with a robot.

    Plants! Succulents! Very reasonably-priced

Finally came here to shop. My mom and I enjoyed walking around and bought a few things. (After measuring some things at home, we will be back to buy more here.) Prices are very reasonable. There are good sales! Good food (in the food court but also for sale.) There's a nice plant selection and many options for different price points. Staff is helpful. There's bathrooms guarded by security. Will definitely be back. This is a great addition to SF the city as well as the neighborhood.

She sat back for a full 10 minutes and gave it serious thought before she made recommendations that were spot on in terms of style, function, and budget * Jennifer was highly collaborative, courteous, and humorous, stayed calm at all times, and was very reassuring. She's honest but diplomatic if you've made a selection she thinks you won't be happy with. * Jennifer was knowledgeable about her own inventory as well as products they don't even carry so she could compare them for you * When asked, she was quite honest about the quality of each fixture (frequency of problems and number of returns), and the integrity of the manufacturer (do they stand behind their products). This is information you can't get doing an internet search * Jennifer's estimates of delivery dates were 100% accurate. Some items even came in early. * Jennifer clearly identified which fixtures were returnable without a restocking fee (standard in-stock items) and which were not returnable (custom orders) * Excel Plumbing is open on Saturdays. Many plumbing supply houses are not * The average discount over the entire order was substantial for the fixtures we bought, and was better than that offered by any other showroom In addition to all of that, Jennifer understands the emotional toll from renovations and reduces concerns where she can: * Your home is in chaos and daily routines are disrupted (she can't help you there) * The wide selection of brands can be daunting (she helps you cut through the clutter of information, and whittle down the options) * You are concerned about making costly mistakes (she helps you make choices with confidence and can also point you towards products that can be returned without penalty) * You might feel urgency to get the renovation done before holiday guests arrive (she can tell you which items are in stock and if not in stock, which manufacturers' estimated delivery dates are reliable) * Your contractor may be pressing you towards products you don't want or like (she can help you identify alternative products you do like) Jennifer has our highest recommendation.

I was definitely persuaded by these reviews - and now will question every business that has 5 star reviews. Do your homework and don't be fooled. Project took much longer than what it should have because they were disorganized and would forget certain things (the foreman would even admit that the PM should have told me certain things!) that I would have imagined a contractor had down pat in terms of sequencing. They use some subcontractors and you are at the mercy of their schedules. They just are not organized (you will do a lot of the reminding, checking in, following up, and certain things still may not happen). They failed inspections meaning more cost (it is their job to pass these! It says this in any contract!) If it seemed as though I was questioning something, the PM got defensive and sometimes unprofessional, gaslighting me in a very aggressive manner. I saved the communication, in fact. The people I worked with directly were young and it showed in the almost-too-casual style of communication and lack of professionalism. I surrendered towards the end and just wanted the project done and everyone gone. I feel completely foolish that I went with the significantly higher estimate thinking it would offer a smooth, superior experience. The actual people who did the work worked hard though and did nice work - hence the two stars. But at the end of the day, it's actually hard to enjoy the work as I am reminded by the months of bad experiences - up to the very end. You can find more experienced contractors out there for equal quality of workmanship and for a more competitive price. I am using a different contractor now for other work at the property - it's a 180 degree difference - they have a dedicated team for my project, meaning time to completion is more accurate and on time; they have a dedicated person to procure the finishes and fixtures, not myself; they are way more organized and even provided me a timeline of what to expect and communicate with me what time they are showing up and what progress was made that day (!!); they are bringing a truly expert eye with attention to detail that ELEVATES the space and are teaching me to ask things I didn't even know I should KNOW to ask; and most importantly, I feel truly comfortable asking questions without defensiveness and aggressive steamrolling in their answers. I received none of this level of care or expertise with MHR, and I want you to know that you should expect these things!!!

But anyway, on the date of the site visit, the guy come without any tool for measurements and for note taking. The guy just spent like 20 mins walking around the house and said he will get back to us with a quote. But I never hear back from them since. I think the company is very picky on clients and like to see if they have enough money to pay for their service. If they think we cannot afford it, they will just cut all the communications. The showroom is well laid out, two floors, attractive, not confusing, with a range of prices from, say, Delta, Moen and Kohler to higher end brands. (I think lower costs on the bottom floor, higher-end upstairs.) Free parking lot to the side of the building, which you need in the Mission. It's important to see and touch as many of these products as you can. We worked with Keoki Garner. He was well informed, timely, easily available, and collaborative. He stayed cheerful when I overrode him and then changed things last minute (due to my own mistakes.) I loved that I could do research on Build.com and then bring it to Keoki. He never upsold or resisted when I went, say, for Kohler over Grohe. Everything so far has been delivered impeccably and undamaged. Build.com offers an enormous range of products, and I like that too. You can return within a reasonable amount of time. We haven't started construction yet but almost everything is sourced and in the garage. We have a clear billing record so much came from Build.com. I ended up gravitating to some more expensive fixtures, but not because of pressure, because of my own preference. I'd definitely do business with Keoki and with Ferguson again.
