Had a blast at IKEA in Columbus but I must say it is very confusing to get through its maze of rooms and it was extremely hot. Other than that I was really happy with it. We got some great deals and though we didn't find what we went for we did (as usual in IKEA) find some really great deals and most of all we had fun. We normally go to the one in Pittsburgh because it is closer to home so this was a nice trip while on an over night to check out and see what goodies we could find. I always love my kitchen IKEA finds andd today was no different. We found our favorite scrubbies, some new kitchen scissors and my IKEA straws (I stock up on them and my family always laughs at me... then they use all of them!) The store is nice with unique furniture and cool ideas for rooms. The line at the cafeteria was really long do to their inability to make hot food quickly enough. My love of IKEA has been long and a long distance affair; Pittsburgh, then Cincinnati, then Michigan. It's true; design for everyone! Design that doesn't cost a small fortune. I came for the preview event on 6/3, it was quiet with a limited number of people allowed. It is now a bit crowded on weekends, they've improved the checkout lines. Check out the cafe, join the family loyalty program and you get free coffee ! It is a fancy machine that can make you an espresso, latte, americano with a push of button. Don't discount this machine; it costs around $24,000. I had wanted it for my IKEA kitchen, but sadly was like triple the cost of what I'm spending to renovate an entire kitchen. And for the love of god, try the meatballs and desserts! We are currently renovating our kitchen through IKEA. The savings comes with the clunkiness of the process. If you know exactly what you want and can translate that into what they offer, it is good. The design service is not necessarily a true kitchen designer, helping with inspiration and plans of other projects. It is a more someone really knowing that kitchen planner tool, then knowing you need this cabinet, this fascia, this lighting. The measurement service with design is worth it when coupled together. Then listening to what you want and putting cabinets, appliances in the right spot. Candidly, the designer did exactly what I asked, then I didn't like it. So I went back in & revised. So glad IKEA is finally in CBus!! This is the closest of the area IKEA stores to my home in Cleveland, and the easiest of the drives to make - straight down 71 and no Turnpike tolls! This new location meets the IKEA standard and did not disappoint! I love wandering the sample room setups before I get to my actual shopping. It always gives me great ideas for my own home and work settings. I also like that there are a variety of sizes and price points so that you can dream, but also find options that work if you're on a smaller budget. Hungry while you wander? Stop at the bistro for a quick meal (Swedish meatballs... UM YES!), or get my favorite - a $1 cinnamon roll from near the checkouts! I can't stand this Ikea, and for good reason; the management is absolutely awful. I came here on Sunday after Black Friday with a couple of $25 off $100 purchase coupons that were valid until the next day. I read the terms and conditions and they definitely did not specify one coupon per person or household, so me and my girlfriend bought a bunch of stuff. On the way to the registers I made sure to divide all the purchases out to as close to $101 without going over and calculated I could use 5 coupons. After waiting 40 minutes in line me and my girlfriend get to the register to have the cashier say only one coupon can be used?? I tell her to contact management and show me where it says that in the terms so this lady gets on the phone to her management for 5 minutes. 10 minutes later a manager gets there and tells me that only one coupon is good per household, I asked where it says that because it would be false advertising so she reads the coupon and says ok you're right it's good but you have to get back into line for each purchase?? I was absolutely livid, so livid that I split up the purchases between me and my girl and got back in line to use my coupons. So this manager wasted 2 hours of my time by making me get back in line twice for a policy she knew she had to accept those coupons. I will avoid this ikea like the plague and honestly will avoid Ikea from now on because of my experience. Side note that I didn't want to get back in line another time so I also paid them $25.00 more than they deserved. Ikea if you are reading this you need to change management and make sure they stop wasting my time. Oh, IKEA. How I love your cheap, simple furniture options. And your delicious Swedish meatballs. My day at IKEA (yes, these outings are typically hours long, so prepare if you've never been) started out so well. I had a delicious meatball entree and some delicious juice from their juice bar. But unfortunately, the line for that took about twenty minutes to get through - they could probably open up the other line on Saturdays when it gets busy. My husband and I then wove through the store, looking for new furniture for our new apartment. We loved the show rooms and trying out the different pieces. Just remember - if there's something you like, grab the number on the bottom of the tag. This is SUPER important when you get to the warehouse later. We were doing great, finding nice pieces to compliment our new home. But then we got to the warehouse. And that's when things got rough. There were a million nice people in the show rooms willing to help us, then no one in the warehouse. We were trying to scoot around multiple carts full of heavy furniture. There were huge long lines to check out. And the sets with multiple boxes got super confusing when we had to figure out if we got two of the same part... We finally checked out and it came time to do the home delivery. And there was no one there. And there were at least two people who said they would help us who never came back. We kept walking around with these huge carts, hoping to find someone. Eventually, a woman at returns helped us out. She was very helpful, thankfully, and all our furniture arrived to us on time. We love all the pieces, despite the fact that my husband never wants to look at another IKEA instruction book again. We have shopped at various locations over the years and have learned the short cuts for this store. This means whenever we go to visit Ikea, we have a conversation in the parking lot, before we go in, asking, are we taking the full route or cutting through to the exact thing we need and getting out quickly? This time, my wife wanted to take the full route, as we had not been there for a while. If you are unsure about what the shortcuts are, all you need to do is check the signage they have posted and you can skip any areas you don't need to look through. The last time we were here, (back in November of 2018), the place was jammed. The parking lot was almost full and there was a crowd just getting to the escalator. This time, the store was fairly quiet and we were able to walk through at our leisure, without anyone stressing us out. We didn't buy a whole lot, as we were mainly looking for ideas for projects in the future, but we did see a lot of very cool items and made lots of notes. We will be going back soon, as there are a couple of kitchen and bathroom improvements they offer, which we think might work well for our house. read more

IKEA has a decent website showing what is in stock, that is if you want furniture. However if you are looking to see if they have food items like this wonderful museli that they USED TO CARRY or Kalles fish roe that I discovered on my trip to Sweden (where the manufacturer says IKEA has it) you are out of luck. You can make a written inquiry to customer service but they cannot tell you what food items a particular IKEA store stocks. Nor is there a number for the local store. So you have to stop in at the store. That is fine if you live around the corner. I can appreciate if IKEA does not want to man locally the phones but can't there be a way for me to easily get that information? Columbus does not have Kalles. Pittsburgh does not have Kalles. Emeryville in the Bay Area does but that store is not easy to get to, if you live in Columbus! My favorite thing about IKEA are the shopping carts. They move in any direction you want them to and they glide around so effortlessly. It's a small thing, but it brings me so much joy. I've visited this location several times and have always been impressed with how sleek and well maintained the showrooms are. They are the epitome of the Swedish aesthetic. The layout of this store, as with all IKEAs, makes shopping a breeze, but somehow I end up putting more in the shopping cart than I had originally intended. I'm sure IKEA isn't mad about that though. The customer service here has always been topnotch too. Recently I wanted to return an item past its return expiration date (which, at IKEA, is one year. Talk about procrastination at its finest!). The associate made no fuss over it and offered to give me a store credit for the item's current retail price. I was thankful they took the item back without hassle and I was able to apply the store credit to the purchase I needed to make that day. Win win! IKEA gets five stars in my book because of their operational excellence. I really love IKEA, but my trips there never end well. Not IKEA's fault... I just always forget to take my own bags, so I end up mad at myself! But it's always fun to walk around and look at the interesting displays. It's not just a great place to get stuff, it's a great place to get ideas. It's also a great place to get a tasty and very affordable meal. Yes, I will admit, my daughter and I have gone to an IKEA for breakfast, moseyed around the store all morning, then gotten lunch there, too. Don't judge. Whenever I'm there, I like to pick up a few things from the "grocery" area... usually some frozen meatballs, packs of the gravy mix, and a jar of lingonberries, if I don't already have some at home. I will admit, this is my one point of disappointment with IKEA: If I want to get something from the grocery area AND something from the larger part of the store, I either have to stand in line twice or I have to leave my cart behind the main checkout area, go pick up the food I want without the benefit of having a cart, then go back to my cart and get in line. If it weren't for this one area of inconvenience, I would give IKEA 5 stars. Wait, ok, one more thing... I will admit that some of their furniture is a pain to put together. Much of it's not, though, and there is so much other awesome stuff at IKEA that I still love it. Just doesn't feel like the whole IKEA experience. I have been to a couple IKEA locations in Florida and Texas, as well as to the location in West Chester, and this IKEA just doesn't seem to be on par with other locations. One of the first and largest issues I had with this location had to do with, well the location, as well as the parking. I realize that weekends will be difficult here, as with any IKEA, but I went in the early afternoon on a weekday. Adding the IKEA to an already overly congested area, didn't help with the traffic. The other issue I had was this was the first time I've ever had to off-road and park in some gravel in order to secure a spot. On my first trip to this location, I went through the entire showroom. While many of the displays looked amazing, as you would expect from IKEA, as a whole it didn't feel nearly as large or as robust as other locations. My second visit to this location, I went directly into the Marketplace. I was looking for one particular item and decided to ask two associates (not sure if that's the exact title they use) for help. They were a bit too busy arguing over who should cover someone else who was on break. Neither seemed very happy to be there. I get it, its new. There are some kinks to work out, but that wasn't what I was expecting from the staff at an IKEA store. The whole employee who answered rattled off a department name and pointed in a general direction. Not wanting to bother them anymore, I went off on my way and consulted a location map. Turns out there was a fancy shortcut to get me where I needed to go. Had I not checked, I would have had to have walked through numerous unnecessary departments to find what I needed. Checkout was also lacking. There were so many people in live and the lines moved so slowly. When I got to checkout, the cashier was complaining about how hot it was in the building and how they couldn't keep the temperatures right. One positive experience I had with checkout was the ability to help some IKEA first timers. I heard them commenting about how I dropped a folded blue bag on the belt prior to loading my items and dumping my used yellow bag into the bin. I chatted with them a while and gave them a few tips. First time trip to IKEA and I thought it was OK. For years people have built IKEA up into some amazing thing and unfortunately for me I was a little underwhelmed. The store is large, clean, organized, and well stocked and I thought the signage was good enough to direct you to where you need to go getting to and around the store. The employees were friendly but no one seemed to be doing anything except making small talk. Both times I asked a question they had to ask someone else. I thought they trained their employees to know their departments so it was a little disappointing. I thought the prices were somewhat high for what I was looking at. With that said I know I was shopping at IKEA and not Dollar General so it comes with the territory. At the same time I did not see a lot of difference between some of their signature lines than the higher end Ashley furniture lines. I did not eat anything in their cafeteria while I was there since I had eaten before I got there. I would consider trying a few things and make a note not to eat beforehand if I find myself at IKEA again. If IKEA is your cup of tea you do you. Who doesn't love IKEA? I'd never been into an IKEA store before this one was made so I had a lot of questions and built-up excitement before I visited for the first time. I was not disappointed. The place is huge. And I mean gigantic. It's easy to be overwhelmed by all the signage and other advertisements in the way when you enter, but once you get the layout of the store, it makes perfect sense. The idea is to see most of the bigger pieces on display in showrooms and then journey into the warehouse to get it yourself rather than having employees "restock" the place every five minutes. My parents and I like to go together because building furniture has been a big pastime for the three of us, and IKEA lets you do just that. The cafe is also well-organized and allows people to get a quick bite in a time crunch. The only downside to this place is that there's a ton to look at, and if you don't want to sit and browse through the various items, it can be overwhelming and hard to find the right item you want. It's also extremely crowded on the weekends and check-out is a nightmare if you're someone who likes to get in and get out within the hour. Overall, a fun experience. Ikea does this real well by shuttling you through showrooms and then down to shoping floor. There is even a cafeteria for those shoppers who are lost long enough to require food or spend hours there. Historically, department stores typically had a cafe or restaurant of sorts on one level because women would often spend a significant portion of time shopping. We went there last Saturday. They have 2 places to eat, one is on the 2nd floor and is a restaurant. The other one is 1st floor, I didn't go there but I heard this place is for light snacking (like hot dogs and icecream). Child care is available free for an hour. Ikea toys and TV, little jumping place in there. My son loved it. Adults can't go in there (for security reasons?), but I appreciate their tight security. Food was awesome for the price. The waiting line was long at noon, but we probably waited for 10 min to start getting food at buffet. Free quality coffee for members. You have to be a member to enjoy free coffee, We signed up while waiting in line on our phone. I loved the almond cake ($1.29? or something), which is gluten free. Furniture is, like everybody says, all great priced. Stone counter top for $53 per sq ft with delivery & installation included. Although their furniture looks smaller (European sizing?) IKEA is definitely not for everyone. I went for the first time today and found it to be the worst shopping experience ever. When I got home, I ordered the things I wanted online for $9 shipping. Well worth avoiding that much hassle. 1. Overcrowded 2. You cannot roam the store easily. You have to follow a sequential path through various "rooms" or you go against the flow. 3. Every zone/room is set up like a living space. Great if you want ideas. Horrible if you want to see all chairs in one place. 4. This is not like going to Disney World. A giant food court and all you can drink Slurpees really aren't necessary. Everyone in the store but me was slugging down frozen sugar. 5. To buy something as simple as a small desk, one must buy a table top and then each leg separately. Online, you can choose the complete package in one fell swoop.
