Hey, if you like cold food and gross coffee then you're in for a treat! But if you're like me, you'll steer clear of this IHOP.

It's a clean one and staff and super nice like everyone in Maine. They are even open on holidays. The price is great for the large portions. But it is a franchise and some ingredients seem processed. All in all this is a great location. read more

Arrived for dinner around 6:05. After 15 minutes I had to get the host to say we had not seen a waitress yet. She came a few minutes later. Food was ordered, probably came within 10 minutes. However, it arrived COLD. Cold scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes. Even my husband who loves sausages could not eat his as they were so cold and fat congealed. Waitress never returned to fill our "bottomless cup" of coffee. The restaurant probably had 10 tables filled with patrons and three waitresses so service should have been a lot better. I would hate to go there when the place was "hopping". We will not return. read more

I have been to this iHop about 3-4 times in the last few months the first 2-3 times were great. Awesome service, good food. We stopped in today and we were immediately seated, but were not spoken to for 20 minutes before we just decided to walk out and go somewhere else. Awful dining experience...manager was at bar yapping about other employees, they were arguing with him..he brought up to one of the waitresses about his new "little friend" in a southern accent. I could tell this dude was a dick, trying to clean up around us forcing out the door, talking about sales and cutting employees early. Waitress didn't give me a receipt or my proper change. Update... I went back to I-hop in Saco 7 months later and it only got worse! I have yet to meet a friendly waitress in this place! Nobody smiles , the service is bad, the hostess isn't friendly, my food was cold and I walked out knowing it's my last time going there...... I had to go to VIP tire which is next door to get a new tire and had small talk with the cashier.. I asked the people working if they've ever been to IHOP ... they all made groaning noises and pretty much said the same thing I did.. none of them go there either so I'm not the only one. read more

My wife and I were excited to try the new IHOP near us in Saco Maine. After ordering, our food took 15 minutes to come out with hardly any other customers there. The food was cold. My toast was late so surely that would be hot? Nope, the late toast was cold as well. The waitress picked up my meal with 2 bites taken out of it and laid down the check. Not for a moment did she ask why i had not eaten any of my breakfast. The franchisee should be embarrassed. This IHOP is a terrible place to visit and I will be sure to warn my friends. read more

The service was extremely poor. Our party was not given any syrup after asking three different waitstaff (more than once), and after around 30 minutes without it we had to get up and find some ourself by the kitchen. We were also not given any condiments or salt/pepper. One of our orders was messed up and another person never got the side of bacon she ordered until asking a staff member later on. Our waitress didn't come to check on us while we were eating and took a very long time taking/returning our cards. Overall, they were understaffed and the service was very poor. read more

I came here with a group of special ed students to celebrate several birthdays. The staff was very welcoming, greeted us with big smiles, and set up balloons on our table. Our waitress was very attentive and nice. Food was delicious. At the end of our meal the staff surprised the kids by singing happy birthday and handing out ice creams to those who had birthdays, the kids were thrilled! Really great experience, one that will be talked about in the classroom for a long time after! read more

Absolutely terrible service. It took a while to be seated, but was tended by server not too long after. She took our order, brought our coffee and left. Over half hour later, she came back apologizing she FORGOT to place order and that it would take another 20 minutes or so. She said she would do her best to get it right out, but could not guarantee because it was very busy. So my husband asked to speak to the Manager. My husband asked him why couldn't he take our order and place it ahead of the others and his response was that "there was no room on the grills". Really? What a lame excuse. But at this time, we waited , as my husband had an appointment soon after. Food came out after another 30 minutes and it was disappointing, to say the least. No apologizes were given, not even a discount. Customer service was non-existent. I truly believe in Karma. read more

This is the best place to eat if your into cooked eggs that float on the plate in grease, then slides down your throat before chewing. Or if you are into cookedbacon that does the same thing then you are in luck. Decided to try this ihop again, give them another chance. Still not busy there and still had issues. I got queso sauce for my country breakfast which was supposed to be country gravy, asked for extra butter and didn't get it, had to ask again twice more, my short stack didn't come, had to ask for that twice more and then when it did come it came with two pancakes instead of three. When I finally got my third, it was crumbly. We get our check and you would think they maybe would have taken off a few bucks for the BS we went through but nooooooooo. I'm done. read more

Worst meal ever...ordered the turkey and gravy the turkey was cut into tiny pieces and had garlic on it and it was so dry...ordered onion rings and got corn tasted like it was from a can....very bad place to go of you don't have kids screaming kids the whole time we were there..... read more

WE waited 45min to get a coffee and then she told us they were out of creamer. Then she took our food order that I had to repeat to her twice. When we finally got our food she forgot our toast and brought us food we did not order. Then she took off and I had to flag her down to tell her my food was cold. she never offered to fix or talk off my bill. VERY poor and extremely slow service will not go again.... read more

Ate there this morning and it was awful! My eggs were over cooked almost to the point of being burnt, the fruit was old, and the waitresses were beyond rude. We were seated at a small table and asked to move to a booth, the waitress made sure to tell is it was a different server. Then i believe she told the waitress to "ice" us out. She took our order, brought our food, then the check and we never saw her again. No refills, or hows everything here. We waited 15 minutes with check in hand waiting for her to come back, i tried getting another waitress to cash us out but she replied " not your waitress" and kept walking! So f***ing rude. We cashed out at the front desk where 4-5 employees stood and stared. I will never go back to this ihop, it was straight trash!! read more

The worst food experience in years, salad came out with dinner and less that 1/2 a ramekin of dressing, waitress even asked me if I wanted it first. Soda glasses only 2/3 full, 1/2 of my wife's food was forgotten, when we asked they brought the wrong item and cold, we sent it back and they never brought her the correct item. i would give this place a 0 if i could it's literally a joke hahaha. everyone in the restaurant was wearing coats and jackets because it was so cold, the heat definitely wasn't on. it took 35 mins to even get noticed by a server. the food was over cooked dog shit. not that i went there with any expectations because it's ihop but wow was this bad. read more

I have tried this location twice, and I will not be going back again. I have never had a bad experience at any IHOP until the first time that my adult son and I visited this location. Admittedly we were in a hurry, and after taking an inordinate amount of time for a waitperson to acknowledge us (we finally had to flag someone down) the food was served promptly, although nearly everything we ordered was prepared wrong - it didn't even match the menu description. We decided that may have been due to rushing the order and that we should give the location a second chance. On our second visit, we had plenty of time and were seated promptly. Service was still slow, but we finally placed our orders and were given a carafe of coffee, which we didn't order the first time because of our limited time. We were surprised to find that the coffee wasn't good. We expected the same coffee we always get at IHOP restaurants, but this was just bad. While realizing that our food was taking a while, it occurred to us that no food had come out of the kitchen for at least 20 minutes, and we were not the only table waiting. Eventually, food started coming out of the kitchen, but it still wasn't good. I can't say where the problem originates within this establishment, but it's consistently problematic throughout. When going out for breakfast there is a place for IHOP, and Waffle House, as well as other chains especially for the travelling patron. It's always good to know what you can get when you're pressed for time. Unfortunately, this location doesn't fit the standard. Two visits was three too many. read more

I wish you could give a half star. I have never left a Yelp review but this was the straw that broke me and I'm taking the time to leave one. Just drive to the South Portland location, guys! I live right next to this one and won't be back after 3 terrible experiences. The food is not up to the standards of other IHOPs and the service is RIDICULOUS. IHOP advertises kids eat free during certain times. Went when they first opened. Ordered 3 adult meals, 3 kids meals. The food was cooked poorly, wrong, missing items, cold, and they tried to charge us for the free kids meals. Server argued with us, twice, before taking it off the bill. The sign advertising kids eat free during that time was posted on the front digiscreen and a huge poster inside, but in the end she claimed she didn't know. We figured they were new and getting their ducks in a row. After a couple of months, went back to pretty much the same thing, but left hopeful, because this is my son's favorite restaurant. Gave them their most recent chance today. Took my 8 year old out and ordered coffee, apple juice, and two adult breakfast combos. They are currently running an all-you-can eat pancakes deal with the combos. No drink refills, no offer to have an extra order of pancakes before the check was offered. We asked to have an extra serving of pancakes. Took about 10 minutes to get the next order, so 15+ from the time we were done with our first plate. The check then returned with a charge for two extra orders of pancakes. Asked to have it removed and the server had to "check on it". Um, this deal has been running for a few weeks and again, is posted on the digiscreen facing the road and also on all the menus in the restaurant. She seeemed legitimately ticked that I had asked them to honor their advertised deal. I don't think these are mistakes, I think they are running a dishonest establishment and are probably told to charge unless asked. Good thing I always check my bills before handing over my card. Each time, service has been grudging and almost rude. They try to upsell to the children rather than the parents. Everyone whose toddler has ever been told by a server they can have dessert or soda without the parent pre-approving knows the nightmare this causes when you don't give in. I've been in food service for years and cannot believe the service can be this bad and underhanded, yet they remain open. I would have spoken to a manager but didn't want to embarrass our server and also, if it was the person I believe it was, the manager was loudly complaining about customers in the bar area to several waitstaff, one of whom in turn yelled, "No shit!" Super unprofessional. This place needs new management and/or serious cook/server training. I get it's an IHOP. So I'm not asking for 5 star service. When your service standards are as low as just wanting to order what they advertise and pay what they advertise, and each time you are made to feel like a jerk because of having to ask for it, that's a sign that you have contempt for customers. If you're wanting to enjoy some I-HOP and want a good experience and good food please just drive past the Saco Location and go to the Location by the Mall in Portland. We were sat almost immediately and they did take careful precautions for COVID-19. Things started to go south when we had waited 45 minutes for our food to be served to us. I understand the kitchen can get backed up and they get really busy, but for a party of 2 people who got 1 entree each to wait 45 minutes is a little ridiculous. Our food was cold when received it and we weren't given much attention at all. Our bill dropped off at our table within two minutes of getting our food. I have worked as a server in the past and I have never done that once, unless specifically asked by the guest for them to receive the check. This was arguably the worst service I have received there. In past experiences they have forgotten to put in our order resulting in the wait for our food being over an hour long, they were pretty nice that time to give us 50% off of our bill but this experience I had there earlier was the final straw. I am not going to the Saco I-Hop again. read more

The new IHOP is not far from my house, so I decided to go there for breakfast instead of my usual place. The interior looks great, and there is a nicely set up "coffee bar" across from the host stand when you walk in. The servers and host are very friendly and welcoming, so no complaints on that front. I do think there is room for improvement in the kitchen, and also with general management. I ordered a Pumpkin Spice pancake combo, which came with two eggs and 4 strips of bacon. I asked for my eggs to be cooked over medium, and my bacon crispy. My eggs came out undercooked, my bacon was not entirely crispy, and compared to the Pumpkin Spice pancakes I had at the IHOP near The Maine Mall in South Portland, I didn't taste much pumpkin or spice. My server was kind enough to bring me two new eggs, cooked how I requested them. I ate the pancakes and bacon anyway; I didn't want to cause too much inconvenience. I tipped my server, but my not my usual 20% tip. Now, since the coffee bar I sat at is at the entrance, across from the host stand, anyone that sits there can easily hear conversation between employees standing behind the bar or at the host stand. While I was sitting there at the coffee bar, this guy, who I assume was the general manager, was reprimanding, not very rudely, some employees when they made a mistake. This manager has a Southern accent and talks quite loudly, and maybe that's how he was raised, because he had a loud tone of voice in every conversation he had while I was there. I work in a restaurant myself, and my managers have those types of conversations with employees quietly, or in private. I didn't think it was appropriate for this manager to be loudly correcting his employees' mistakes, especially with guests right there. That's a turn off for me, and by observing this guy, I immediately knew I would not want to work for a manager like that. I think he is trying to make a good impression for guests, as this location hasn't been open for long, but for me, that impression was overshadowed by his interactions with his employees during the time I was sitting there. Now, I'm not saying this guy is like, the worst of the worst; I just think there is room for improvement. With this, in combination with the food flub, I am not sure I will go back here again. Maybe I'll give it a second try, but if I really want IHOP, I'll probably just drive up I-95 to the IHOP near The Maine Mall, where I have never had a bad experience. read more

Bad food and bad service! Never again! I'll drive to South Portland!!! Never had a bad meal there!!

My husband and I went to the Saco IHOP last night, New Years Eve, at approximately 6:30 pm. First off, the restaurant appeared to be busy but certainly was not over booked. We went to enter the restaurant and found the entrance door to be locked which is totally unacceptable during the hours of operation. A young man came out into the entry way and I asked through the door if the restaurant was open. He proceeded to open the door for us to enter the restaurant. When we entered the restaurant, there were several parties ahead of us waiting in the restaurant. Keep in mind, that there were tables available for seating. One of the parties ahead of us indicated that they were told that there is a 20 minute wait. At the time that we were being told that there was a 20 minute wait, a waitress came by and indicated that it was due to only two cooks in the kitchen. There is no excuse for the door to be locked during business hours and there is no excuse for not seating the parties and providing them with beverages. An explanation could have then been provided for the delay of delivery of the food. This would have been an easier pill to swallow then to find the door locked and then being told that it would be a 20 minute wait before being seated. I don't think so. Won't be going to this restaurant again. This is totally unacceptable. read more

great food, great service. the place is always clean. today there were only 3 people on staff serving and clearing tables, but they were hurrying. so it took maybe a minut and a half to be seated. i've been there enough times without a problem. customers are giving bad reviews. if this place is so bad, why is the parking lot always full at breakfast lunch and dinner? i have seen the parking lot packed - you could not fit anther car in there. they do more business in one week than the previous chinese restaurant did in a year. i had an omelet, blueberry pancakes, and homefries today. it was good as usual. read more

I hate to leave a bad review but the 1st time we went in for lunch the waitress was rude and short with us. The entire building reeked of raw sewage to. Thought maybe it was just a off day. We tried a later lunch today. It wasn't a fluke. We walked in and stood at the front for a good five minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. We were seated and met by the waitress ready to take our order.... We hadnt even had time to look at the menu so she took our drink order. She came back with 3 glasses of soda (all were dark) she didnt know which was which and told us we could figure it out. Our food came out (food was great) we started to eat and she was right back with the check. Ok thanks for letting us finish before throwing the check on the table but whatever. My mother had finished her plate and I was almost done when she came back grabbed my plate with her thumb in it and then asked if I was finished. Um yea guess I am, now that youve put your thumb in my plate. We will be making the trip to south portland if we ever feel the need to have Ihop again. Great Job to the cooks out back though. Thats the one only thing this place has going for it. read more

If I could gove this place less than one star I would. Just because its an IHop and people have lower standards for them doesnt mean they shouldn't give exemplary service. Lets start. We had a party of 8 and even though there were plenty of tables that could have been put together, they crammed us into a 6 person booth and added a table at the end. Once we placed our drink orders and said we needed a little more time it took 20 to 30 minutes for the waitress to return and take our orders. Maybe once in the almost 2 hours we were there did she return and ask for a refill of any drinks. It took almost an hour to get our food which most came out cold and what was supposed to be the southwest scramble came out with plain scrambled eggs, regular hashbrowns and a lump of avacado, not at all what the menu said. We asked 3 times for ketchup before we finally got up to get our own and then she finally brought some. We had two sandwiches that were made incorrectly and missing ingredients. I have eaten at many IHops and not once have I been so disappointed in one as I was with this one. read more
