Went here the other day because we wanted something with a good variety. Saw this place on yelp and decided to give it a try. Got to the store and was seated immediately. This IHOP location experience was good. Usually I come to expect very slowwww service at IHOP. However the waitress who was there was quick and prompt. The food came out quick too. Normally I tell my self to be ready to wait 30 min. at the least. As to the food - for breakfast IHOP satisfies especially if you are on a trip like I was and you cannot cook breakfast for yourself. I don't understand the concept of getting loaded with sugar. I didn't really eaten at IHOP until last year which was my first time since I have let my friend choose a place to eat for his birthday. I would have probably never go there if I was pushed to do so. Considering the name and what IHOP always stand for, I always thought they only serve sugar loaded pancakes. I was proven wrong once we gotten there. IHOP did serve their share of steaks and other main course dishes including a couple salads, but who would go directly to IHOP for their salads? Since I wasn't a big fan of pancakes, I would normally get something else like the steak or savory crepes. Probably since IHOP doesn't really specializes in these dishes they are horrible. The steaks would be inconsistent. I sometimes would enjoy the steak but sometimes the steak would come out like a piece of cardboard. The whole environment of the restaurant looks like it encourage obesity. The restaurant doesn't have any real noise. Looked like everyone including myself was under Homer Simpson's spell: "Can't talk, Eating!" The whole restaurant was quite quiet even though it was moderately filled with people, other restaurant are also sometimes just as quiet but something with IHOP that made me felt uncomfortable being there. I dont like this place. Only chance you catch me here is when someone else had decided to eat here (forced me here). 1 STAR. read more

Horrible service. My family and I have come to this IHOP for ages, and up until recently the service had been great. I am writing this review specifically about my visit tonight. We were served by Rolf, who smelled so strongly of cigarette smoke each time he came to our table (the few times he did anyway) that the smell stuck to our clothes when we left. I was in Newark for a wedding in Fremont, across the street. As part of the wedding party, we ended up having a late brunch at IHOP both Saturday and Sunday (we were going to try Dino's on Sunday, but sadly they were closed). I had the gingerbread hot chocolate both days, it was that good! and it comes in a gigantic mug which is really fun to drink out of. The hot chocolate is very sweet and the gingerbread flavor is very apparent. I tried items off they're $7 menu both days, the Spicy scramble which is an everything but the kitchen sink kind of deal including two different types of meat, jalapenos and hash browns, with a side of pancakes. The scramble was okay, but I didn't finish it and I wouldn't get it again, the pancakes were of course much better. The second day I got the banana bread french toast with eggs for $7, much better!! The main dish was hash browns, eggs, and either bacon or sausage, I got the bacon it was chewy which I prefer. But, oddly enough I had a dream last night that I was very upset that I didn't get the sausage, you can interpret that however you like. The Banana bread french toast came on the side, the bread was dense and moist and the eggs made a light fluffy coating, caramel was drizzled over the top, with slices of banana, and whipped cream. My friend Jenny got the egg Benedict both days! It's not on the menu, you have to ask for it, but she said it was fantastic. On Sunday our party included nine people, and the staff was kind enough to take a photo of all of us together. read more

I had a craving for cheese blintzes. IHOP has carried these for decades so I hunted for the nearest one to my home in Fremont. Yelp showed one in Newark, a relatively short drive. It turns out that they don't make cheese blintzes any more. Oh, well. We waited about 10 minutes to be seated. That's acceptable on a Sunday, early afternoon. Once we were seated, we couldn't avoid watching the young man who was responsible for the area where we were in the restaurant. He repeatedly brought out the wrong food to tables near us. We could hear most of what was said and the guy just had no clue. We sat and sat, waiting and waiting, watching this poor fool. No coffee was offered to us even though one of IHOP's big deals is having a carafe of coffee at every table (where coffee was ordered). I began doing a slow boil, wondering why this guy had a job. He was so obviously in over his head. Finally, a waitress came to our table and said she would be taking over our area from him. I realized later that couldn't have been accurate because ours was the only order she took in that area. Anyway, she was fine. Everything she did was right. The food was a little slow in coming but at least we got what we ordered. I had Danish crepes and they were OK, nothing special. My hubby had some sort of omelette that he said was fairly good. We were able to get our check from her just about when we wanted it and we tipped her well. If she had been our wait person from the start, I'd have given this place 3 stars. As it is, I can't justify any more than 2 stars and barely that. The price for my food was about right but Hubby's omelette was over-priced at $10.95. Because we had so much time to watch the employees and how they conducted themselves, along with the greeter and the bus boys, we came away with the impression that, other than our waitress, everyone working there seemed to have the IQ of a rock. It was Tuesday when my younger brother called me on the phone and said that my whole family were coming over at my house. Yeah, everyone is coming at 10 a.m.!!! I was still sleeping and my kids were watching cartoons. I almost fell from our bed coz I was sleeping so deep then my cell phone rang with the highest ringing tone level to the tune of Boom Boom Pow! hehe.. I thought they're going to hang out at our house but my mom wanted to eat breakfast at IHOP. So we came to this branch, sat down, and ordered. There was only one waitress assigned for like 8 tables. So in short, she was so busy and we waited for her to finish the requests of the other tables. In fairness to her, she was nice except that she repeated saying that the coffee thermos was a decaf (we ordered decaf and regular coffee) . She probably told my dad like around 5 times. Duh? My dad is not deaf. hehe.. So when she came back, my dad told her, "this is decaf". haha! I ordered the Pancake Combo (2 specialty pancakes, hash brown, 2 eggs, and 2 sausages) which I shared with my son. For the pancake, I ordered the one with strawberry and banana. They put too much strawberry syrup! Ei, I did not order strawberry syrup with pancake, did I? lol. I won't recommend going to this branch. The service is slow. Right away there was poor service and low quality food. I had to tell the waiters 4 times for a refill for water. I guess they don't comprehend basic english. Hmm. Food was definitely all made from ages ago and has the color of an old shoe. Fresh food... straight from the microwave. Crepes were completely soggy as well as straight disgusting. Nice attempt at trying to compensate it with fruit and high fructose syrup. The bacon had no fresh color and looked blacker than a Nigerian prince. The boiled eggs were days old and thought I had bitten into a piece of mold. Jesus. In all, this establishment had poor quality food and service. Definitely would not recommend going here for any reason unless you have kids to let loose and have them running around and screaming. read more

I live literally across the way from the Union City IHOP store....but we always go to the Newark location when we need our IHOP fix. Our party almost always includes my 3 grandsons, all of whom have very specific IHOP orders, and this location gets their 'quirks' all correct, every time!! The food comes out quickly, hot and RIGHT. They are willing to sub things, and servers will frequently suggest ways to order that maximize your dollars. It is scrupulously clean, and the staff always checks to make sure you are happy with the table location/type, etc. We eat a LOT of waffles, chicken strips, french toast, funny face pancakes, extra hash browns, etc. Haven't been disappointed here in at least 10 years, keep it up, IHOP! read more

This iHOP has done a good job to improve in appearance & in service level over the years. If you get here before 10am on the weekends, you'll find that you won't have to wait too long for a table. Last week we wanted to visit this location but it was closed for remodeling. Had the worst experience ever at another nearby location. Today my son and I went here to the Newark location, and it was like night and day. The service was top notch. The food was great, even better than your average IHOP. And all of this despite the fact that the place was packed. I've had far worse meals at some of the more expensive breakfast joints around. I don't get any of the bad reviews for this location at all - even before the remodel the place was just as good. Definitely the best IHOP I've ever been to. Highly recommended. read more

IHOP, hands down, has THE BEST pancakes anywhere. I'm all for supporting mom and pop diners, but I just can't get the same type of pancakes anywhere else. Needless to say, whenever I'm in the mood for pancakes, IHOP is the place to go. This particular location is run efficiently.. we didn't need to wait for more than 10 minutes for a table on a busy Saturday morning. The country fried steak is good, and their new egg scramble offerings are tasty. While their menu does not compare to the variety offered at other diners such as Dino's, Baldie's, Anny's, etc., IHOP has reliably good food at about $10-12 a person. read more

I would really like to be giving IHOP a lovely review this morning but unfortunately I cannot. This is not due to food service as I have not dined at IHOP in years but this is in regards to the customer service. I called IHOP 4 days in a row asking if they would be able to provide a pancake donation to a catholic school for the 2nd grade 1st communion breakfast. I was told to call back numerous times and when finally I spoke with someone the manager asked me to call back on mothers day after 2pm. I called at 7pm as I am a mother so spending time with my family is important, the manager on site said it should be no problem for a pancake donation this morning (Monday). I never heard back from her last night after her confirmation. When I called IHOP this morning I am told that because I did not call at 2pm exactly they cannot donate any pancakes (even though the comment was call after 2pm). The main manager Cameron could not communicate this to me directly even though the assistant manager gave the ok. This is very poor taste and I will continue to stay clear of IHOP and it's crappy customer service. read more

Come here for breakfast and skip the burgers. There is a reason why they have pancakes in there name. Came here on a weekday afternoon with a coupon for a free Rooty Tooty Fresh and Fruity breakfast (or item from the menu at equal or lesser value) that I got on my anniversary date for signing up for their online club. Do it, you will also get a free breakfast for your birthday. This place on a weekday afternoon is basically a senior center and I was the youngest person in the joint besides the one server working the restaurant. Made the mistake of ordering the burger and side salad instead of what the coupon was for, the breakfast combo, but wanted to save a bit on calories and order something with about 800 calories less. Burger was overcooked and flavorless. But what could I really expect from a place who specializes in pancakes? Good service, clean and I will be returning, but only for breakfast. read more

2 stars only because the food had always been good, but the experience and the service are absolutely terrible. Both times server "Rolf" has helped us and both time worst experience ever. First time we went in he smelled terribly of cigarette smoke and continuously touched his face and hair, along with this he kept going into the back room or kitchen and not coming out for 10-15 minutes so we just sat there with no food no drinks, nothing. It took him 3-4 tried to get our order correct and was just very slow in general. Went again and to out dismay we got the same waiter. This time he and a coworker were sitting in a booth talking for most of the time. He took our order and sat down, then we waited a long time for our food, he got our food and then disappeared. We finished eating and waited almost 20 minutes for him to come back with a check or to see how we were doing. Finally I had to wave at him to get him to stop chatting with his buddy. Took incredibly long time to do anything and kept sitting down to chat instead of doing his job. Do yourself a favour and drive to another ihop if you see him. read more

Went for the all you can eat pancakes. The eggs and hash browns are not the best in the world but very good. Their pancakes as well aren't the amazing ones they were back when it truly was THE INTERNATIONAL HOUSE OF PANCAKES, but still some of the best around. All for $7. read more
