Boyfriend and I had really great service when we stopped here late Friday evening a few weeks ago. I only wanted sausage and eggs and toast but since that wasn't an option, I ended up with pancakes and potatoes and bacon too. That's a lot of food but for $8.99! Bf ordered a burger, I believe. Okay, so you've decided to go to IHOP. Nothing wrong with pancakes for breakfast (or any meal really). Some would say its a poor decision with all the other Newport-y options, but honestly, are you really saying you don't like their pancakes- it's IHOP, it's what they do. Now I'll agree there can be a line, but it moves rather quickly and call ahead seating is an option too. I came here for a late night dinner out of desperation. It was SO cold in the place that I was shivering almost violently. I ordered a hot chocolate for a beverage! A hot chocolate? In the middle of August? Insane. The food was okay. It was a bit greasy for my liking, but then again, what do you expect from IHOP. The service was okay as well. Went in with an online order and had a few questions about getting charged the full amount until the coupon dropped off. The waitress at the front was so kind and answered all my questions. She then let Tabitha know there qas a small problem. Who seemed annoyed from yhe second i opened my mouth, told her no problems just feedback for a small problem. This is the best IHOP I have ever visited. The manager greeted and seated everyone who came into the restaurant. He was upbeat and cordial. My server was exceptional. She was efficient, friendly, and just plain old nice to everyone she served. I had a stack of delicious pancakes and a side of hash browns, which were so tasty. The coffee was smooth and the pot rendered three full cups. The place was also very clean. I'll be back for breakfast the next time I am in Newport County. This IHOP rocks! read more

We are military and have traveled the world and so, with that experience we would say that despite the small and older building the service is amazing! Been going for years. My last visit was black Friday around 9am . We all ordered the same thing, chicken Florentine crepes with two sides of pancakes. There were only ppl at 4 other tables. In other words it was quiet. It took over a half hour to get our food. When it did arrive there was no spinach in any of the crepes. I pulled waitress over and showed her. Her explanation was the cook was an hour late because he was hung over. Really? I've been in the business for over 25 years. This might sound cliche but it was a typical fast food type breakfast spot. Food was pretty good and service was attentive. Wasn't a fan of the seating though, they pack you in there without a lot of space to get around tables. My son was in a highchair and we had to make sure he was pushed in enough for others to get by. It's IHOP, so you know what you are getting with the food. However, this IHOP is unique in that the staff are committed to their regulars. The service is mindful and the waitresses are professional. I really enjoy having a waffle and a cup of coffee with my family on a Saturday morning and this is a nice place to do so. read more

Reason for 2 stars is not due to food or service but for the setup of seating. There are way too many seats jammed into this place with customers and staff tripping over each other. If you are not a skinny mini or are claustrophobic you may not find the experience bearable. read more

I beg to differ, it is "bad for an IHOP" to say the least. We were seated, with our two younger children, next to the bathroom. Aside from being able to smell the bathroom, you could also hear the toilet flushing. We were at a table/booth and the two chairs were visible broken, which made seating very uncomfortable and uneven. We ordered the pancakes for one of our children, without chocolate chips and unfortunately we were ignored because she received them anyway. Thank God shes not allergic to chocolate! My hashbrowns smelled like a urinal and were barely cooked, with only slight browning on a couple pieces on top. I also got a side of bacon, which consisted of the most pathetic skinny strips ive ever seen. The coffee was like colored water! I cant believe we had to pay to eat this way! After driving around trying to find some place open on thanksgiving day (traveling, not from the area), I saw IHOP parking lot full with cars. For a company that waves the breakfast flag, they have me thinking why I just had one of the worst breakfasts since I can remember today. My food came out so cold that the dollop of butter they put in the pancakes wouldn't even melt. I asked for cheese on my toast, I was served cold toast with a slice of cold cheese thrown on top. Is it just me or wouldn't common sense say toast should be served at the very least warm and if cheese is requested it should be melted? My bacon was charred, I happen to like floppy bacon, apparently you get it how they serve it. I overheard a customer across the way send his food back because it was served to him cold. I wanted to do the same but gave up because the server didn't check on us in time so it was going from cold to ice cold. The server finally showed up after I was choking it down.. too late to return it now. What a sad experience. I always say to all these people that love a certain breakfast place "Well it's very hard to mess up breakfast, it has to be almost on purpose". Well IHop has now made me a liar. It's an ihop, the food is generally the same as any other ihop, which I tend to enjoy. What I don't enjoy is the way THIS ihop operates. With such a tight space it's very obvious when the three tables surrounding us who sat down after us get their food first. We are only a party of two...our water glasses stayed empty, my sandwich didn't come with its avocado (which took about ten minutes to get, keep in mind it is an extra charge that I was paying for) then when the bill came there was a $2.59 charge for turkey over ham... Which I asked the waitress if she could do when I ordered it but she failed to mention the *chx fajita (as our receipt read) charge she was adding for it.. Kind of ridiculous. We've had some good service here, and not so good service but after this there's enough awesome breakfast places on the island that I'd rather go somewhere else than play the lottery with it here. read more

carol of Middletown 3-26-2016 sat,. today was my dtr's birthday, and she came down from warwick,where I used to live, I have only lived here since 10-1-2015, and I am now disabled in a wheelchair, my dtr felt like breakfast so we decided to go to Ihop. it was excellent, the food very well prepared, the waitress a young lady, but excellent, we ordered coffee and some water, and asked for a few minutes to review the menu, and she said fine, my dtr asked her to bring milk for her coffee and she did so immediately, and I told her she could take the cream back, as I drink my coffee black..she was very pleasant about doing this. finally my dtr decided on what she wanted, grain and nut pancakes with blueberries on them, the waitress asked my dtr if she wd like whipcreme on her order, and my dtr sd no. I ordered an omelet with corn beef hash and wheat toast, we each had two cups of coffee and found the food to be excellent, freshly made and hot. I took half of my omelette and one slice of toast home, we were pleased with the service and the quality of the food and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I must say, I disagree with all these comments I have read about it being just another Ihop, this is not so, I used to come to Newport and Middletown, many yrs, ago, I even worked here many times. I ate many times at your restaurant, and it was always special to me ,great service, excellent food, reasonable prices, and I had other foods beside breakfast foods, and I don't agree, its just another Ihop.the other Ihop's I have been in were good, but this one is the very best of all. I wd go with my husband and bring my dtr, who was a teenager at that time, and use my book to pay for one meal, and my boss covered the cost of the other meal, but I would deduct my dtr, as I did nt want to take advantage of this situation, as I usually did at least one restaurant a month,maybe two, as we had the conn. bk. also, and we had to test those restaurants also.a lot of the complaints were not legitimate, and the food wd be excellent and we wd put this in our report we wrote. if the restaurants were bad the owner went out to them, and told them they had to really bring it up to ..perfection or he wd take them out of the book. I really feel I can write a good report on any restaurant I go to top notch, family. chain or just a small town restaurant.
