    Coffee!

This continues to be our favorite local bfast spot. The servers are mostly long time employees so they know what they're doing and are efficient. Our Vegas, bacon and hash browns were cooked perfectly. Their pancakes are always the best! We use their app and generous loyalty program and this visit got a free shirt stack of pancakes. Excellent service and yummmy bfast!!

From their own website: open until 3AM. Turned away before 2 AM by unruly employees blocking doirway.

Oh no! Customer service and honesty are completely lacking. Restaurants says open till 3 AM. Arrived at 1:55 and was told we stopped seating at 2 AM by loud unruly employees blocking doorway. It wasn't even 2 AM yet. The employees didn't wanna work. Clearly. The kitchen didn't wanna work according to the people at the door. I didn't know kitchen's work! Clearly either the corporate policy is to deceive people into driving here in the middle of the night only to disappoint them or the employees simply lie so they can go home early. Either way this is the only IHOP this has ever occurred to me at and I've eaten at hundreds around the country. This must clearly be the worst. If this is any indication of how dedicated to their work, the employees are I would advise everybody to stay away.

Service - quick, fast, and friendly! Everyone was very welcoming from the moment you step in, to when you leave. Ambiance - open space, but wasn't too rowdy. Food - so many options to choose from, i haven't been in a long time. But i was so happy to see the range, i couldn't decide on what to get. Their southwest chicken bowl was delicious Drinks - I ordered a coffee, usually i ask for honey but they ran out. It was okay I went for their sugar/cream instead. Location - in a busy area, but parking wasn't hard to find. & once we arrived we only waited 5 min or less!!

Their version of toast, both sides I toasted

Stopped in for a late lunch and were seated immediately. Decided to order breakfast instead of lunch. Ordered two eggs over medium, hash browns, rye toast, and eggs Benedict. Waited for what seemed like a long time when our server came out to say they were out of English muffins and what would I like as a substitute. Chose sourdough toast. Food finally arrived with the eggs Benedict looking not quite right. Even through the hollandaise sauce I could te the eggs were overcooked. And cutting into them proved I was correct, pretty much like hard boiled eggs. Server did offer to do something else for me but usually doing that means they are rushing the food and it could be worse than the original. The sourdough toast was toasted on one side, both sides would have been good. The bacon for the eggs over medium was asked to be cooked extra crispy but it was just barely cooked. Fortunately the bacon with the Benedict was crispy so a swap was done. Home fries with the Benedict were asked to be extra crispy but that didn't happen either. Our server was very pleasant and tried to help as much as she could and to her credit took off the Benedict off the tab. Was also told the manager would stop by but that didn't happen. Very disappointing meal and not sure if there will be a return trip which is unfortunate as they usually do a good job with breakfast.

Free stack of pancakes on National Pancake Day
    Jacob B.

It was National Pancake Day when I went here. Great food with pleasant employees who were courteous. Service isn't all complaining! They do serve new fish & chips which makes Friendly's a competitor as they also serve that entree as well. That's what I had alongside the free stack of pancakes I had on National Pancake Day. It's one of my favorite actual chain restaurants of all. I've been to this location multiple times since Applebee's was originally in that building before IHOP took over.

    Protein Pancakes

About what you expect. Basic service, decent food, old atmosphere, high price. I'm kind of running out of local breakfast places to try. I've had my fair share of chains, so when I go into these types of places I don't have high expectations. I go into this specific location and the single server was busy running orders. After about 5 minutes she runs over and seats me. I'm guessing this specific location might have a bit of a staffing issue. The decor, very much out of the early 90s. Gives me a bit of that TGIFridays or Sizzler's vibe. Low-backed seats, neutral color tones, very low divider walls, those big tube cushions that line the seating bench. It's old, but within my generation so I didn't mind it much. Didn't see anything interesting on the specials menu, so I opted to do their low calorie breakfast option. Figured I would see how their protein pancakes match up to the real deal. Also get some protein in and not ruin the days calorie bank. The eggs and sausage come out first. Both swimming in a good amount of oil, which kind of negates the healthy aspect of the dish. Nothing is seasoned, so it was up to me to salt, pepper, and ketchup the heck out of everything to get it to a decent standard. Eggs were generic egg whites, the plant-based sausage patties had a decent flavor to them. Unseasoned, but a hard sear and a decent texture. Pancakes came out after. Server was kind enough to inform me that they screwed up the pancake order and sent out the regular stack rather than the protein stack. I appreciate the honesty, and she was really busting her hump making sure the 15 people in the store were served all on her lonesome. So no faults on the server. When the protein pancakes come out, they have two decent sized mounds of whipped salted butter right on top. Pretty sure those are not part of the menu calorie counts, but those are easy enough to remove. Do a little drizzle of full sugar pancake syrup, and give them a try. Not bad pancakes, all things considered. Fluffy enough, tender, they don't feel like a diet food. Granted, they don't really have decadence either. But overall they are a solid pancake. Bill came out to 18 bucks including the coffee. So it's high for what you get. If you want some generic food or manage to use their app to score some freebies, then this place is a spot to get some breakfast. It's not great breakfast, but it's edible and will serve its purpose.

    Busy on a late-morning Saturday
    Scott D.

Sitting in the old Applebee's building in the small plaza at the east end of the Buckland mall this place might be easy to miss if you aren't looking for it. I've been here quite a few times since it's been open and as some reviews have stated the service can be hit-or-miss at times. That being said, I last stopped here for a semi-late breakfast on a Saturday and it was busy as you might expect. The manager was working in a number of areas and she kept everything running smoothly. From clearing and seating tables to taking care of the steady stream of dine-in and carry-out customers she was going above and beyond for the customers AND her employees. The wait was not bad and the service was quick and friendly despite the rush. Food arrived as ordered and without too much wait. Because this is a chain I start with a default four stars and even though I've had a few less than ideal experiences here they are putting in the work needed to make it better. For that they deserve the "A" for effort and a 4.25 star rating.

Would you allow this IHOP manager in Manchester, Connecticut to serve you food?

So we came back. Here's why! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right in downtown Manchester, CT is this gem. It's near the "beginning" if you're coming from the highway. There's no private parking, but there's plenty of free parking on the street and huge parking lots around the back. That's one reason I love Manchester. If we're coming out here to spend money, don't charge us to park our car so that we CAN go spend money! Lol. Inside is like a bit of a tavern and nothing out of the ordinary. It's a little on the small side so just make sure you get here! Service: Alexis behind the bar took care of us both times and she was awesome. She no longer works there and has moved on to owning her own business so we wish her the best! Food: Wings, wings, wings. Every flavor. You need to have them all. Jerk, Parmesan Garlic, Buffalo Rub, Candied Bacon Rub and Everything But The... I'm so serious when I say this. These are probably the best wings in Manchester. Aside from the flavors themselves, the CHICKEN ITSELF has a smokey flavor that also delivers a crispy skin and juicy inside. My goodness they were so incredible, but my favorite was Everything But The... it's basically Everything Bagel seasoning, but you can't go wrong with any of the flavors. Value: Get here for happy hour! 3:00pm to 5:00pm Monday through Friday. I actually hate those happy hour hours, 'cause like... don't most people get off at like 5:00pm?! Lol. Regardless, 8 BIG JUICY wings will run you $12.00 and that's actually a VERY good deal for what you get. In conclusion, I loved it here and will come back over and over. Not only is this place awesome, but there is a mission statement created by MACC Charities when they launched their social enterprise, Bistro on Main, their predecessor. They set out to support, train, and provide opportunities for individuals with barriers to stable employment. By offering a jobs training program that would help them develop employable skills. What does this mean to them? While they are not the same organization, they have set out to continue the mission of doing good within the community while also offering an enjoyable dining experience. The goal is to continue to collaborate with those organizations who provide support for individuals in our community with the most need, such as MACC Community Kitchen or similar educational programs. Both on a permanent basis through specific menu items or on a rolling basis. So, ask us what organization we are supporting during your visit!

A stop on the way back to UCONN when I was a student there. The "go to" place after our kids' school events. Shortly after we moved to Manchester, over 38 years ago, the restaurant was closed for renovations. We were looking forward to seeing the revamped restaurant. Well, we were even more surprised when we stepped in the door - nothing had changed! Cleaner, perhaps new Naugahyde on the seats, but that mural on the wall was the same - those elves were timeless. When you sit down, you get a small paper cup of water. The menus are on the the wall - soups, sandwiches & ice cream. I'd always heard they had a patent on the way their cheeseburgers were made - a burger topped with crispy cheese. A must have. Prior to Covid, the condiments tray had ketchup, mustard & chopped onions. Now, there are packets of the condiments. No onions though. We shared an order of fries - crispy & good. I was too full to have ice cream after our meal, so we brought a half gallon (yes - a real half gallon) of our favorite flavor home - chocolate almond joy. Yum! Note - you need cash. No cards. There is an ATM in the restaurant.

Since it's a popular choice, expect crowds til late afternoon for lunch. I didn't notice their breakfast menu among those posted on the walls, but apparently it is served til 11am. As for lunch, the cole slaw is surprisingly superior to most if not all other diners/cafes. Though prices have increased with inflation, still a great value and more competitive than many other comparable places in the state. Furthermore, the consistent taste and nostalgic ambiance are all still intact. Main offerings are between-bread - i.e., sandwiches, so limited options if you have dietary restrictions like having to eat gluten-free (soups contain gluten; I didn't ask if any of the platters could be made GF though), but their iconic fried cheese is still available as an a la carte side. Ice cream flavors include seasonal highlights like pumpkin chocolate chip, and their shakes are generous and delicious. I recommend asking what additional flavors they have available that are not listed on the wall menu. If there are kids in your party, be sure to look out for the table placard with the Children's Menu; the kids in our group enjoyed the chicken platter which included fries, a drink, and 2 substantial breaded chicken fillets.

They all seem to add a bit of class. For my first drink, I'm am having a Cosmopolitan. A Cosmopolitan (or Cosmo) is a popular pink cocktail made with vodka, triple sec (or Cointreau), cranberry juice, and fresh lime juice, typically shaken and served in a martini glass. It's known for its tart, fruity, and slightly sweet flavor profile, often garnished with an orange twist. While served in a martini glass, it's not a true martini as it lacks vermouth. The drink has nice presentation, chilled, garnished and well-balanced. For my first food item, I'm having a Chef's Salad. A chef salad is a hearty American main-course salad with a base of lettuce topped with various ingredients like hard-boiled eggs, one or more meats (such as ham, turkey, or chicken), cheese, tomatoes, and cucumbers, often with croutons and a vinaigrette or ranch dressing. I am having vinaigrette for my dressing. Oh yeah! Nice restating! This is good! I see romaine lettuce, olives, eggs, turkey, ham, canned green and red peppers, pepperoni, cheese, picked onions, cucumbers, etc. It's a big portion size for $7! For my next food item, I'm having the (1/2 lb) Mussels. Mussels are a popular, sustainable, and nutritious seafood known for their briny flavor, often served steamed in broth with wine, garlic, and herbs, and paired with crusty bread. They are filter feeders, rich in protein, omega-3s, and vitamin B12, and are farmed responsibly, making them an environmentally friendly choice that improves water quality. These are good you. They are hot. I like the grilled, buttered bread. Make sure to squeeze the lemon on top. This is the "red" inversion (white is an option). These are good! I love this broth! For my next food item, I'm having the Bogner's Chili Cheese Dog. Bogner Quality Meats in Manchester, CT, offers a selection of premium, house-made hot dogs and franks, featuring all-beef skinless, natural casing, and kielbasa dogs. Known for high-quality meats since 1942, they also offer bulk 5 lb packages, perfect for grilling, along with a full service butcher counter. I only get to eat this kind twice a year! This is all beef and locally made. What's better than this?! This is great!!! Love that pickle and those thick kettle chips! For my second drink, I'm having a margarita. A Margarita is a classic cocktail made with tequila, orange liqueur (like Cointreau or triple sec), and lime juice, often served in a salt-rimmed glass with a lime wedge garnish. It can be served shaken and "on the rocks" (with ice), blended with ice, or straight up, and variations include different tequilas (like reposado) or sweeteners like agave syrup. No margarita glass or sake/sugar rim but it is nicely garnished and tastes good. The floating orange is odd. Still, it's quite good! For my next food item, I'm having the Geno's Meatballs. Gino D'Acampo's traditional meatball recipe features a mix of minced pork and beef, soaked bread, egg, pecorino cheese, and parsley, typically simmered in a simple tomato sauce. For best results, brown the meatballs in olive oil, then simmer slowly for at least 30 minutes to two hours for a rich flavor. I like the cheese strips on top. Lots of sauce! These taste great! For my last drink, I'm having a Vodka Mule. A Moscow Mule is a refreshing, vodka-based cocktail made with lime juice and spicy ginger beer, traditionally served in a copper mug which keeps it extra cold. To make one, combine vodka, fresh lime juice, and ice in a mug, then top with chilled ginger beer and garnish with a lime wedge or wheel. It's a simple, no-shaker-needed drink that's popular for its balance of spicy, sweet, and tart flavors. I like the copper mug! It's chilled, nicely garnished and well balanced. For my last item, I've been dying to try the Special- a bork of Legume Soup. Lentil soup is a hearty, nutritious soup made with lentils as the main ingredient, often featuring a base of sautéed onions, carrots, and garlic, simmered in broth with spices like cumin and turmeric, and finished with fresh herbs and lemon juice. It's a staple in many cultures, known for being filling, economical, and rich in protein and fiber, with variations using different lentils (red, green, brown) and additions like kale, potatoes, or pasta. I like the cute, little crock pot. These are good crackers. It's nice and hot. It came out fast too! For my last item, I'm having the Southwest Chicken Eggrolls. I've never tired these here!Southwest egg rolls are crispy, deep-fried appetizers typically filled with shredded chicken, black beans, corn, red bell peppers, spinach, and Monterey Jack cheese. However when we got the food, the Cuban had bbq sauce on it, and the manager told us that it was because we didn't tell them that tomatoes were in bbq sauce (bbq sauce isn't listed on the menu for the Cuban sandwich). Wow. They remade the sandwich. I honestly only ate the calamari, which was good.
