The omelet made me think people don't order vegetables very often, because the cheese was on the outside? Like it had been left out? No big, I slipped it inside and it was fine. Sadly, when I went to the bathroom, the waitress cleared my entire meal, despite me TELLING her I was just going to the bathroom, pointing at it, receiving a nod. Luckily I had eaten enough for bariatric me. She offered to bring me a new plate, but I just asked for coffee. When I went to pay, I had a moment of panic thinking they only accept cash (I had just enough). Welp, the ATM network was down. Good news, two gentlemen at the next booth who seemed to be regulars had paid for my meal! I thanked them profusely.

Omelet Shoppe - A Little Slice of Road-Trip Americana…read more There isn't much in Beckley when it comes to very early breakfast before hiking New River Gorge NP, so we picked Omelet Shoppe mostly because it was a few blocks from the hotel and, honestly, how wrong can you go with eggs and bacon? Turns out: wonderfully right. This diner is pure road-trip gold, the kind of place where time slows down just enough for the coffee to taste better. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, greeting locals with hugs, warm questions about their families, and the kind of genuine familiarity that makes you wonder if you've accidentally walked into a reunion. And somehow, they made us feel like we were long-lost regulars too. It was all very wholesome and slightly magical. The food was simple, satisfying, exactly what breakfast should be when you're about to climb, wander, and sweat your way through a national park. So good, in fact, that we came back every single morning. Because why mess with perfection? A true little gem, comforting, unpretentious, and warm in all the right ways.

Pros Quanity- My omelet, home fries, toast, and coffee were about $13, so very affordable for some greasy spoon- type breakfast. Cons Service- Our service was spotty, and not the warmest, but can be understandable. Taste- I may have gotten the wrong thing, but overall there wasn't a whole lot of flavor (until I added hot sauce...that helped). Speed- Came in about 8:30, and it was 1/4- 1/2 full, but still took about 35 minutes to get our food after ordering. Not the slowest, but could have been better. Overall could have been a worse experience, and if you are wanting some quick, simple, Waffle House- style food, this is a good place to check out!

I had no idea exactly what this place was. My colleague kept referring to it as just a Moose. And a lot of use know that means something else, more in lines with a bar. The person that invited us out to here for the event didn't give us much information about what we should expect. But I am happy I came here, because of how unique of a place this is. Most people would assume that this may be a place for ice cream and you'd be partially right. This place is a mix of things that you would not expect. First and foremost, it is a well used coffee shop. Even though there is a well known national competitor right up the road. There is a steady stream of vehicles in and out throughout the day. Inside, in the coffee portion of the space, it gives definite coffee shop vibes. Couches, armchairs, tables, books, magazines, etc. That coziness could be a big draw on a cold day. I had myself a chai tea latte from here and it was delicious. They are quick with their ordering process and making of the drink. What else is here you ask? Well, let me tell you. There is an ice cream parlor tucked away on the opposite side of the coffee shop. You can enter this through the coffee shop or from the outside entrance on the side of the building. This area, then leads you to another location on the lot. Putt-Putt. Behind the building, there is a miniature golf course built into the hillside. One that is West Virginian history themed. Another thing this place has is an indoor climbing wall. I didn't get a chance to check that out.

Last week, my wife and I were down in Beckley to pick up our son from the Scout National Jamboree and decided to stop by the local Tudor's to get some breakfast sandwiches. I got the Tootie, Country ham, egg, & cheese on their own buttermilk biscuit and my wife got the Ron, Savory sausage, egg, & cheese on a biscuit. As usual, they were excellent. We ate in. The staff was very friendly and came around to refill my wife's coffee twice. The restaurant was clean, as were the restrooms. Not…read moreonly do you get to walk around and enjoy various local artists work, some artists who are actively working (we got to watch glass blowing), but the food was some of the best we had on our trip! My fiance got the Reuben sandwich and the peanut butter pie. Both were absolutely five star! The Reuben had plenty on it and was nicely balanced. The onion rings felt fresh and were dipped in a really delicious batter. As you can see, the peanut butter pie was huge, creamy, and really delicious with a good balance of cream cheese flavor. The chicken pot pie did not disappoint either! It was a bowl of the creamy chicken mixture with a ridiculous amount of actual chicken in it (both light and dark meat). It was topped by a layer of some flaky and delicious pastry. There was just enough of everything, though. It was a lot to eat, and I was unable to finish it all. The tomato cucumber salad was okay, I tend to not like my vegetables as marinated as they were, but it still had good taste. The biggest disappointment was the creme brulee. Don't get me wrong, it tasted amazing and came out perfectly bruleed! But it was the same price as the peanut butter pie, and was extremely misleading and how much was actually there. When looking at the dish it was served in, the entire bottom. Half of the dish was ceramic with a very narrow full to actually place anything in. In the end, I think I got about half the amount of creme that I expected. It did not feel like it was worth the money, so I would not recommend ordering it. That being said, we will definitely make a point of stopping here to eat on every trip in the future, though we might just both end up with peanut butter pie!!
