This place is...interesting, in a good way. When I was told I was going out of town for a work event in West Virginia and this was the name of the place. I had no idea exactly what this place was. My colleague kept referring to it as just a Moose. And a lot of use know that means something else, more in lines with a bar. The person that invited us out to here for the event didn't give us much information about what we should expect. But I am happy I came here, because of how unique of a place this is. Most people would assume that this may be a place for ice cream and you'd be partially right. This place is a mix of things that you would not expect. First and foremost, it is a well used coffee shop. Even though there is a well known national competitor right up the road. There is a steady stream of vehicles in and out throughout the day. Inside, in the coffee portion of the space, it gives definite coffee shop vibes. Couches, armchairs, tables, books, magazines, etc. That coziness could be a big draw on a cold day. I had myself a chai tea latte from here and it was delicious. They are quick with their ordering process and making of the drink. What else is here you ask? Well, let me tell you. There is an ice cream parlor tucked away on the opposite side of the coffee shop. You can enter this through the coffee shop or from the outside entrance on the side of the building. This area, then leads you to another location on the lot. Putt-Putt. Behind the building, there is a miniature golf course built into the hillside. One that is West Virginian history themed. Another thing this place has is an indoor climbing wall. I didn't get a chance to check that out. read more

I've been here multiple times since moving to Beckley! I'm never disappointed! I don't drink coffee, but I always get the wraps and smoothies and they are always delicious! The Chocolate Moose - A Sweet Reward for a Day Well Lived Nothing says "well done, you brave adventurer" after a day of hiking like treating yourself to a scoop (or two... or three) of creamy, delicious ice cream, and The Chocolate Moose delivers that reward with gusto. This place is fabulous, inside and out. It's the kind of spot where you can plop down, chill out, and savor your treat in peace, or let the kids run around while you pretend the ice cream is for them. The atmosphere is cheerful, relaxed, and welcoming, like a friendly pat on the back in dessert form. Perfect place to unwind, smile, and remember that life is better with good ice cream. read more

Rude, slow, and lacking service. This review is sad to me because I loved the potential of this place. Passing through on a road trip and we wish we went somewhere else. The vibe was cool for the most part, but the service could've been better. The food was overly salted, the coffee was ok and one of the two servers was miserable and unhelpful. We asked if they had a food menu and she was put out when she went to get it. I am a big coffee guy and love to test a new blend before committing... especially when it's 6 dollars for a black coffee. Will stop somewhere else next time on our way through the area. read more

Hidden Gem. Adorable coffee shop with fun coffee options and the friendliest baristas! We had the Brother Bear and Jolly Java - both were delicious. We will absolutely be back the next time we pass through this area. read more

Great ice cream a beautiful place you can also go play miniature golf. It is West Virginia, Virginia themed

Very tasty coffee-based drinks and limited but delicious food options. Many different specialty latte options. Not too busy when I arrived around 9AM on Saturday morning but it started to get busy as I was leaving. Free WiFi and good seating options. Pleasant staff. read more

This location has the best service in town! The ladies working on Thursday evening were sweet and provided me their favorite drink. My wife and I ordered The Cardigan and Fragola smoothie. This seems the best place in town for new river gorge for coffee and drinks. They do not miss a beat. Plenty of seating inside! read more

I had the brother bear frappe and the turkey wrap, both were delicious. My husband had a hot carmel latte, one of the best he's had, and a bacon egg and cheese bagel that was very good too. The service was great, it was a bit busy so it took a while for everything. Quiet environment with music in the background, would be good for studying or work. Would come again! read more

Sweetest little coffee shop! I loved the holiday seasonal menu with so many cold brew options instead of all lattes like at other shops. Caramel cookie cold brew was fantastic and not overly sweet. A cute place to sit and catch up with a friend or grab a local coffee to go! read more

The atmosphere was fun and welcoming, making it a great place for families. Our kids absolutely loved it, and it was easy to see why--there were plenty of options to choose from. Nice coffee. It's a small place, I think. There are a bunch of tables and some bar stools. Plenty of games for bad weather days. Plenty of parking. Yeah, it's a little strange. FUN. They stirred my coffee clockwise even after reminding them it needs to be stirred counter clock ways. I forgive. But next time... read more

This unusual business offers a climbing wall and various activities in addition to a cafe. The ice cream is Hershey's and a lot of the ingredients are sweet and big brand, but the execution worked for me. The matcha with multiple strawberry flavors on top delivered a strong taste that lasted through the day. Food options were limited. Seating options were many. It was a busy place both with people getting takeout and heading to work and those staying to sit. read more

A very sweet little local coffee and tea shop. It is a cozy kind of place. Not a large selection of food or baked snacks, but good coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. I absolutely love this place. Their coffee has never let me down. I also really enjoyed playing the mini golf behind the building that is cutely West Virginia themed. I will never forget that. The epitome of cutesy local coffee spot. Offerings trend toward the sweet side, if you order straight off the menu. But prices are fair, and staff is friendly. read more

Had a really good coffee from here! Nice space for working as well. I wish there were more smaller tables though.

I absolutely recommend this place for breakfast and coffee, especially if you were on your way to check out the newest national park 20 minutes away! First of all the ambience was great. Then put in effort to make some cute chalk paintings and art On the wall with interesting knowledge about coffee and culture. While waiting for my coffee and food, I spent some time reading them and it was really fun! My latte was great and they had different alternative options to whole milk as well. I loved my bagel with egg, bacon and avocado. I like the texture of the wheat bagel. Had another bagel with some chive onion cream cheese, and it was the best! read more

We came across The Chocolate Moose on our way to NC. Delicious drinks and sandwich. Friendly service. Games were available which we played while we waited for our order and while we ate. So good we went back on our return trip. read more

This is a cute coffee shop/ ice cream shop/ mini golf/ rock climbing place. We stopped here to get ice cream after dinner. They didn't have a menu for the ice cream, just the flavors were listed. We both got double scoops and it was too much ice cream (in a good way). They don't have much indoor or outdoor seating, the place was pretty small. We didn't try out the mini golf, but the course looked fun and took you down the hill. read more

This place is a jewel! Such a fun, extensive drink menu. I love the moose cartoons and the epic poem about their old shop cat, Mr. Feeny, in the latrine. I was sad to hear of his passing. I got the Moth Man and it was perfection. I dunno how they fit a whole damn climbing wall in that place but they did. I didn't climb but it looked awesome! Add a mini golf course and ice cream; this place is the best hangout spot. All they need now is a stage for entertainment and I would live here. read more

This place is amazing! I love the atmosphere here. We came in during an interview for a news team, and the owner is super kind. He mentioned that this place has been around since the 80s and it's all about bringing the community together! They also have mini golf and a climbing wall. The mini golf looks so fun, and we will have to come back to play. Their coffees though... OMG they are amazing! They have a lot of options which can be overwhelming but you can look ahead on the menu. They also have delicious bagels with a variety of flavored spreads, , breakfast sandwiches, and lunch options too! read more

What a gem in Beckley WV. Excellent coffee, smoothies and small bites served by great people. Good place to have a casual business meeting in the morning. Later in the day, try out the ice cream - always a great selection, the mini golf course and climbing gym. I hope our locals and our tourists continue to support the Moose! read more

Super adorable coffee shop! Passing through, I slept at Beckley Travel Plaza only to discover that they no longer had Starbucks. This was a 7 min drive from the travel plaza, and I'm so glad that I stopped here instead of getting coffee at the Exxon gas station. The place is cozy, with different types of seating. The menu is a-plenty with flavoured coffee drinks. They offer milk alternatives. I got the LL BEAN latte and egg, avocado, tomato toast. It was affordable and delicious. The lady at the counter was really nice and very patient with all my questions. Too bad I don't live nearby, but it's worth a stop for good vibes and food. read more

Sometimes there are small blips in your overall experience at an establishment, but occasionally you have those places that are just so damn good, that based on what they served alone you can't give it anything but 5 stars. Chocolate Moose is THAT good! Coffee shops are a dime a dozen, but The Chocolate Moose has something truly unique to offer. I love when coffee shops have specialty drinks. We of course need the classic latte, americano, and chai, but I love to see tons of flavor syrups and the shop creating lots of fun combinations to choose from. Chocolate Moose does this in glorious excess, and even go a step further with the fun menu display. They incorporate everything from popular culture, local legends, and the Moose itself into the drink names and the art on the menu. For those who don't know, the legend of the West Virginia Mothman is local to Point Pleasant, relatively close to The Chocolate Moose. I loved how they incorporated it into the menu, with their Mothman signature creation. A latte with dark chocolate, cayenne pepper and cinnamon. This seemed to be a popular menu item! You can also find nods to the Mothman legend in the decor, wall hangings, and even their merchandise! If you're unfamiliar with the Mothman, look it up! It gives this place some really neat local flair. Unfortunately The Chocolate Moose was having some issues with their mobile ordering app where they weren't receiving any orders, but couldn't figure out how to turn the app off. Totally understand that things like that happen, but I think every time a mobile order customer came in, they expedited their order, which unfortunately made for a 20 or so minute wait on our drinks. Honestly y'all... once I took a sip I didn't even care. Some of the best coffee I've ever had! The use their own signature roasts, which are available for purchase. For my drink, I ordered one of the signature creations. I was stuck between 3 and I let the barista pick. She chose the Broomstick Brew, which you'll notice on the menu gives a nod to Harry Potter, so I was excited for that. The drink was just outstanding. A latte with dulce de leche cappuccino, toffee nut, and vanilla. For Harry Potter fans, this is basically a butterbeer latte, and man oh man is it good! The smooth espresso was delightful with the butterscotchy flavors and the blended foam on top was the perfect touch, drizzled with caramel. This is a must stop if you're in the area. Worth a detour for a niche, local stop with a unique offering and delicious coffee! read more

Travelers looking for a breakfast place that had more than 3 stars and up came this place. Long wait for 2 simple items. Dead quiet. Not a bustling joyful place. Egg, cheese bacon on English muffin came out first. Cold slice of processed cheese on top of barely warm microwaved pre cooked bacon (with fake grill marks). Husband ordered the same but on a bagel. It was delayed by the toaster tripping a breaker. Had to be remade. Not being snarky here, a McDonald's egg McMuffin is of higher quality. read more
