The bad - How is it that this place has forgotten to make pancakes? Ordered the short stack of plain pancakes only to send the under cooked pasty blobs back. Next batch was only marginally better. Coffee was weak and reminded me of a quip from Thomas Jefferson: 'If this is coffee, bring me tea. If this is tea, bring me coffee.'. Manager was able to brew up a decent pot; but, again why not make it properly initially. The good - Ham was good. On earlier visit had the sweet cream filled raspberry compote covered crepes which were good. Got a 50% discount which I gave as tip to waitress. Ate there late on 2015-07-01. read more

I went to this IHOP for about six months straight on a daily basis for a client of mine. Though I now cook for him, I wanted to review this location because I know just how hard the servers and hosts really work. Two women, both heavily pregnant, worked their tails off all the way up to their due dates. Any time an order took too long or was incorrect, the entire bill was comped. The errors might be tough for them to iron out, but they really are trying and they do handle any issue a customer may have without question or complaint. Give them a chance to get better, because I really think they can continue to improve. read more

When I arrived, the inside had a foul odor to it which was off putting. I placed a to go order and he handed me half of my order. Gave me things I didn't ask for, forgot my pancakes and the vibe he gave off was odd. We asked for a medium rare steak just to find out it was rare when we got home. My husband has to then cook the steak himself as he feared getting sick. I will not recommend this place to anyone for any reason. read more

Was there over the weekend. Normally, Ihop is a good go-to place when you travel for good consistent food. This location is a big exception. The area by kitchen we sat in had a urine smell. The silverware had chunks of egg on the fork and spoon (potential health hazard---as it was not cleaned properly). Pancakes were oddly small...like child size. I know how to cook some grits...but the chef there does not...they were way too watery. Hopefully the owner (AND Health Department) will look into this business soon. Always look up the ladder for who is to blame...in this case to the owner since IHOP is owned by individuals. Its a shame...such an opportunity to have a thriving business there since there are not many breakfast choices in Abilene. Next time i will seek out a non-chain. read more

I have to say, I am beyond impressed with this store! We love IHOP and generally look for one in any town that we travel to and this one is a WOW! Every Restaurant you go to has a wait and it typically takes longer than quoted but NOT this place. We were quoted a wait time of 10 minutes. We keep seeing customers come and go in the fastest time we have ever seen. We did not even make it 10 minutes. We were called fir our table and was greeted with the bubbliest Mgr/Hostess ever who apologized the for the wait (what? Not even!) She said that the seater was getting worried because we were quoted 10 min and they only had 2 min left. The Mgr stated that they try to always beat their quoted time and boy did they ever! Our waiter was standing at the tea waiting for us and asked if we had to wait long. Wow! Then the Mgr in training saw that we were sitting at the table with out drinks and went and got them. We have sat here and watched the most efficient restaurant ever. KUDOS to everyone one here from the hostess stand to the servers, kitchen, and bus staff. Everyone was hustling! The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is cause the food is great and are waitress was cool but that hostess that was working last Sunday morning (heavy set, short black lady) was rude as hell and that's why I REFUSE to give it 5 stars. Get rid of her and then you'll get your extra star read more

IHOP used to be my favorite place to eat. The Abilene location really is horrible. The waitstaff rarely looks clean. Once, I went and one of the waitresses had a huge wound on her arm. It looked semi fresh and wasn't covered at all. How do you handle food with an open wound on your arm?! Gross! My food was also hard as a rock. I had to send it back. When it was brought out the second time, I didn't trust it. I paid and left without eating. Another time, the waitress reeked of cigarette smoke. I'm not expecting Barbie and Ken to bring out my pancakes, but come on! And I'd rather my pancakes not have the ability to knock someone out if I, for whatever reason, decided to throw one. Not only that, but every time I go, it takes forever to get my food. It doesn't matter how many people are in the restaurant, expect a wait. I guess everyone that is employed by this IHOP is too busy chain-smoking a pack of cigarettes and doing bmx tricks on their bikes and scraping themselves up. read more

If you are in any kind of a hurry at all AVOID this place. Our waitress was kind and relatively prompt but the kitchen here is awful. Okay, all jokes aside, the best way possible to describe this place is BAD. I've been here a few times, and every time I walk in I'm met by this awful stench of stale, sitting, water. Their waitstaff is usually unkempt and aren't well trained. Also, for some strange reason this location doesn't seem to attract a good crowd. It's been shot up (I believe someone was killed in the shooting) for some unknown reason, and the few times I've been there has always been at least one unruly group of people eating there. AT LEAST ONE. However, I suppose they cant help that. What they could do though, is try not to serve terrible food. I don't think they even try here. Those few times I've been, I can honestly say I've had 3 good pancakes. Maybe 3? No more than 3 good ones. If you can avoid this place, do so at all costs. Seriously... I Love IHOP! I have always been a fan, This IHOP has not always been the best though. I have lived in Abilene for 28years now, and have visited this IHOP on and off my whole life. Just recently have I been able to go and get my food in a timely manner and it be hot when it comes. The servers here are SO nice, and the restaurant is way cleaner than it was this time a year or two ago. I had stopped going for a while, but I think that I is going to change, especially after my last couple visit being so consistantly good. Gluten Warning......I know. I know...It's a pancake house. The waitress was very good and wrote "no pancake mix in eggs" on the ticket. We even saw it printed out on the receipt. Small traces of gluten don't bother me that much- so I wasn't worried about the cross-contamination issues. I WAS SICK FOR TWO DAYS! With a 230 mile drive- sick the entire way. THANKS GUYS! Was pretty disappointed with the whole experience. We went out of our way while traveling to eat breakfast there and it was not worth it. My husband and I had not been to an iHop since we were kids, or close to it. He loves pancakes, we travel a lot, and he has mentioned wanting to stop in at an iHop - so while in Abilene, we did. $23 later, still hungry, we won't stop at another one again!! We know what to expect - not seeking 5 star food or service. But, one would think that a restaurant chain specializing in breakfast would know how to make breakfast! There was a 20 minute wait. Not their fault, good sign for popularity, we thought... Immediate service from our waitress, can't complain - except returning twice in less than 3 minutes to see if we were ready to order yet was mildly annoying. As I said, we've not been to one of these locations in years - busy menu! My husband ordered a full stack of pancakes; I ordered a simple breakfast of 2 bacon, eggs scrambled, hash browns and toast. I did specify extra crispy bacon. The food came out - pancake stack looked good. I pushed the limp, greasy, underdone bacon aside and began to slice through the rubbery scramble eggs. Ate none of either. The hashbrowns had a nice crisp outer crust - raw inside. I pushed my full plate aside. My husband shared a pancake - raw, rubbery batter inside. Our waitress came over and cheerily cleared our virtually untouched plates away, left our check and wished us a good day. Guess she's used to it, didn't seem surprised at all that we hadn't eaten. Many will say we should have complained, but they were very busy; and you know the drill - there would have been a big production; offers to remake; lots of annoyance over something they should have gotten right to begin with. Simply wasn't worth the fuss to us. My husband left her a decent tip as he pointed out that it's not her fault she works for a bad place. And, he's right. However, I do think as a server with integrity, she should have questioned the apparent rejection of the breakfast. Likely she didn't want the hassle either. We will NOT go back to this location most certainly and most likely we will never enter an iHop again. Oh well... Please note that this is the first negative review I've ever left. One star placed, because we did have intense, (rushed) service. read more
