I can tell and feel the blood guy annoyance and frustration. I understand my little one was yelling but for the same reason, i need someone to draw at home due to my little one health issues. I could feel his passive aggressiveness in the way he respond to me. He is not patient and is not friendly. If something like this triggers him, i can't even imagine when he draws. I wouldn't recommend to people or family who have children with health conditions or special needs. Or even toddlers in general who don't have special needs. I requested that the prescription be sent directly to the specialty pharmacy that had previously shipped the medication to me. However, Ms. French recommended trying my local pharmacy first in case the insurance unexpectedly approved it, which could save me money. Although I had reservations, I agreed. I specifically asked her to document that if the medication was denied--as I expected--it should immediately be sent to my preferred specialty pharmacy. She assured me that this would not be a problem and told me to call if I heard anything. As expected, the insurance denied the medication. I then spent time calling the pharmacy and my insurance company to confirm the denial before contacting the office. After that, I repeatedly called the clinic, left multiple voicemail messages, and explained the situation to staff members several times. Unfortunately, my calls were never returned by Ms. French. What concerns me even more is that when I finally spoke with another staff member, I was told there were no notes in my chart about the backup plan we had discussed or about sending the prescription to my preferred pharmacy. This was the exact concern I had raised during my appointment, which is why I specifically asked for it to be documented. Because of the lack of communication and follow-through, my treatment has been unnecessarily delayed while I am running out of an important medication. Patients should not have to repeatedly call, leave multiple messages, and wait without any response when their treatment depends on timely action. My frustration is not because the insurance denied the medication--I expected that. It is because my concerns were not documented, my requests were not followed through, and my calls were never returned. Timely communication and reliable follow-up are essential parts of patient care, and unfortunately, that was not my experience.

I just moved to the area so didn't have a physician here. Because I could not get to a doctor's office for the first weeks after arrival, the nursing center provided me with a primary care physician who sees patients at the home to coordinate my care. They also provided me with an orthopedic specialist (see my review of Henry Bruce MD). Candidly, I did not know what to expect from physicians assigned to me by the nursing home. The primary care doctor that they assigned to me is Cameron Khavarian, MD. Although I am not a physician, I was head of public relations and patient relations for a 1,000 bed medical center, as well as a consultant to several others. Having worked with so many physicians and handled all manner of doctor-patient issues I may have a different perspective (more critical with higher expectations) than the typical patient. With that in mind, I have to say that by any measure, Dr. Khavarian (Dr. K) is at the top of the list of the best physicians I have known or who have treated me. He is extremely knowledgeable and very responsive. And, he's a very nice guy! If you think that old fashioned "bedside manner," has vanished, you simply haven't met Dr. K. Couple that with today's technology, and Dr. K was a quick email or a phone call away when I or the nurses needed a change or addition to medications, or a different treatment regime. When it was important that I personally meet with him, he was always there within a very reasonable amount of time. Throughout my stay, and for the follow-up aftercare, he was patient and understanding, and was both a superb medical practitioner and advocate for me at the home and with my insurance providers. In addition to the broken leg (a tibia plateau fracture) and related conditions, Dr. K diagnosed a number of annoying persistent ailments I have endured and prescribed treatments that simply made it vanish. If you or a loved one is confined to a nursing home, Dr. K is the doctor you'll want and will genuinely appreciate. Watching other doctors at the home, and from my personal experiences, Dr. K is the best physician practicing at nursing homes. Dr. K's website is http://nursing-home-do.... He makes rounds at about a dozen Orange County health care facilities. The only downside is that Dr K's practice is limited to seeing people that are in nursing homes. If he took regular patients, he would be my primary care doctor. I am going to miss having him as my doctor. Incidentally, my leg healed and I was walking in 7 weeks rather than the 12 weeks that all the orthopedic surgeons at the hospital and the home said it would take before I would even be able to put weight on it. Not bad for a guy on Medicare!
