I've been going here for the last few years even after I've moved to Brea which is now a 45min drive. Dr. Hyjek is seriously the best chiropractor I've ever been to. I've been working with Steve for the last at 2 years at least! I had been dealing with unexplained symptoms (hair loss, severe fatigue, dizziness, stomach issues bloating/bm, acne, etc.) for two years. My Gp and other specialists kept telling me I was fine. If you're considering to give a try to a chiropractor or you're done with back pain I highly recommend Dr. Hyjek. I have dealing with back pain since my 20s, I have being on and off with different painkillers. Before I met Dr. Hyjek I used two over counter painkillers and famotidine to protect my stomach. I was referred to Dr Steve by some friends in the fitness industry and Lord I'm so thankful for the referral. Entering Dr Steve's office after hours due to full time father scheduling was welcomed with a smile. After a silly mountain biking accident on the 4th, I was left with what I believe is a fractured or cracked rib, and some really gnarly abrasions on my shoulder, scapula, and ribs. If I could give The Functional Medicine Center more than 5 stars, I most certainly would. And let me tell you why... The onset of me first becoming sick occurred in April of 2017. The first round of symptoms were subtle- things like fatigue, headaches, irritability. I didn't think anything of it until it got worse- digestive issues, massive brain fog leading to major cognitive decline (the worse symptom), shortness of breath and everything went downhill from there. I can't tell you how many doctors i went to the first year this happened. I went to doctor after doctor. I remember my first visit to the emergency room the first short weeks this all started. The doctor assumed it was due to anxiety and was going to prescribe me anxiety medication. Are you kidding me? I'm over here telling the doctor my lungs feel tight and that I can barely breath and he writes me a prescription for Xanax. No thanks. I didn't give up there. The next doctor said I have asthma/anxiety. Didn't believe it for a second. They based this off no real tests. It became a guessing game. But desperate, I took inhalers after inhalers and rounds of prednisone. No difference. It only made me feel incredibly worse. Next doctor believed I had pneumonia and prescribed me antibiotics. Desperate again, and feeling hopeless at the time, I took several rounds of antibiotics. Did not help. Similar stories followed for years. No doctor that had a real solid corrective plan. After so many doctor visitations I became an expert at interrogation. I wasn't going to trust just anyone with my health. My health was bad enough as it was, but doing it on my own for the last 3 years, I was better off on my own than the first year under several doctor's care. Transformational. Yes, really! I was searching for a Functional Medicine doctor and found Dr. Steve in the listings for IFM Practitioners. Even better, he was also an approved Chiropractor through my insurance. The opportunity to create a relationship with a FM doctor and chiropractor is exactly what I have been needing. I came into his office exhausted with aches all over, a stiff neck and tight shoulders, daily headaches, vertigo 3-years running, chronic fatigue for over 20 years, brain fog so thick I wouldn't want to get out of bed, and some major gut issues. I honestly cannot say enough good things about Dr. Steve Hyjek. I came to Dr. Steve about two months ago with a new diagnosis of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and a diagnosis of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome that I'd had for years. I was experiencing numbness and tingling in my face and hands. I was putting on extra weight although I hadn't changed my lifestyle. My energy was so low that I constantly needed a nap--and a lot of caffeine. I constantly felt like my brain was foggy and it was hard to concentrate. I had chronic neck pain that three other chiropractors and regularly massage therapy had done nothing to alleviate. I had bloating and digestive issues. And I was experiencing high levels of anxiety even though my life was relatively calm. Frankly put, I was a mess. I am relatively new to the area and found Dr. Steve during a search for a Functional Medicine practitioner in Orange County. I worked for more than a year with endocrinologists, my GP and endured lots of tests. I was finally diagnosed with Hashimoto's and honestly these traditional practitioners were unable to help alleviate any of my symptoms. I started working with Steve due to chronic neck pain, back pain, and extreme limitation in my range of motion in my neck. I pretty much was in pain all the time and had recently taken a job that required me to drive about 20 hours/week. I found Dr Steve after I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism, and all I got from conventional medicine was a daily pill (that I refused to take) based on a standard blood test that didn't even show whether I had Hashimoto or not. Nobody was interested in figuring out what caused my symptoms and treat the root cause, which to me should be the purpose of medicine, right? Thankfully, the internet introduced me to the notion of functional medicine. Dr Steve made me do a dozen tests that looked at what seemed every function of my body - an extremely important step because Hypothyroidism can be triggered by a huge number of issues. Dr. Steve is amazing!!! I was recently referred to him from a friend from home in MN where he had a very well established practice. I have had several adjustments from him now and feel very confident in his abilities. I even have him adjust my little 1 year old girl. I have been coming to Dr. Steve for almost a year now. I have an autoimmune disease called Hashimoto. When your immune system attacks the thyroid. In this case making you hypothyroid.
