More and more dessert places have durian as one of their menu items, and for first-time durian consumers, the durian pancake is the entry item, as it has chunks of durian but is also wrapped with familiar tastes like cream and pancake. This is my second time bringing someone to experience their first-time durian experience. Both had a good and interesting first experience. The durian was creamy, and the space was filled with the durian aroma once the pancake was cut into. The person has to really want to try durian in order to have an open mind about the aroma and taste. Both friends had a good first impression of durian. Will try again. I don't like Taiwanese treats, at all. But if you do, this might be the spot for you. Shaved ice desserts and iced milk teas seem to be their specialty. With the shaved ice desserts, you get to pick how many and what type of toppings from a vast list. I can't remember any of the choices at the moment, probably because I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of choices. But, I also didn't like most of the choices to begin with. All I remember were some assorted fruit toppings and some types of balls. I've ordered different milk teas which are refreshing, but too sweet. Service is quick, and the restaurant is clean but dimly lit. Also, the time we came, there was an overwhelming odor permeating the air. It smelled like mildew or mold, but it could have also been something on the menu.....durian perhaps? The smell was strong enough to get me to leave ASAP. Unlike most dessert in us, you can hardly tell the origin ingredients of sweetness, but most asian dessert leverage the sweetness of the ingredients!!! This place is soooooooooo good and it is just like the dessert shop you will meet at southern part of China. you can try their homemade tofu dessert with freshly grind soy beas to creat soy milk and then tofu dessert. Also their black seasame paste is also reallly worth trying!!!! Highly recommended because the taste is so great the texture is so smooth. Hot dessert is one of my favorite! I like how they give you your own squeeze bottle of condensed milk with the shaved ice. Pretty generous with the toppings as well. The mango that comes with their desserts is surprisingly sweet. I wonder if they soak the fruit in sugar water.... The mango pancakes are a bit disappointing; too much cream, not enough mango, but good overall size. Recently ordered their hot grass jelly dessert to go, but I can't say it is one of my favourite desserts here. It was nice how they offer toppings to go with the grass jelly. I ordered the taro and matcha mochi as toppings. It was a bit odd how the toppings was molded with the grass jelly rather being on the top. Was intrigued by their chocolate crepe roll cake sign outside but when we went inside to order, they didn't actually have it :(. We tried their mango crepe cake ($8) instead and was a little disappointed to find that it was just regular crepe cake with mango bits in between the layers, so the actual cake batter was not mango. A friend and I decided to give this place a try after having dinner nearby and not finding much of another option for dessert. Was quite empty (just us and another table) when we got there, but I guess 7pm is early for dessert. My biggest problem with the place is the loud profane music playing -- I literally did not know one song could have so many f-words in it until I set foot in here. The positive is that this menu has much more selection than the takeout locations and includes things such as waffles which I don't think I've seen before at the other takeout locations. This location is right across the street from White Spot. My friend and I arrived around 7 pm. It wasn't very busy. There was only one staff member working up front. He did everything from taking the orders, cleaning tables, prepping food and being the cashier. Service was ok considering he was a one man show. The portion was huge but the price increased a bit from last year. We sat there for hours chatting. Luckily they weren't busy. We ordered the mango shaved ice ($11.25). Unfortunately, this time the main three items black sesame and rice balls and even white snow fungus was out of stock??? I've been to this location quite a few times and never had an issue. But this particular day I decided to take my mom there for mothers day and the experience was not quite as pleasant. By the time we got there, everyone else was paying or leaving the restaurant. We ordered a hot milk tea, hot tofu dessert, and durian pancake to go. I am not sure why the girl at the front didnt do anything to help with the food process making and was chatting away with her friends at the front. We waited an hour before anything came to us, not impressed. My hot tofu dessert was cold, and the durian pancake was bright green! I have never been served a bright green durian pancake there before. I questioned them why they did this, and was reassured they always made the durian green, and the mango yellow. NOT TRUE! This is the first time I have ever received a green durian pancake there before. As well as my unimpressed mother not wanting to eat a green pancake due to food colouring, I asked for it to go and got it on a plate instead. The girl working there seemed to be extremely incompetent in her job, and left my durian pancake on their table covering dust when I asked for it to go 15mins ago. The weather is starting to become warmer here, so I decided to drop by Icy Bar after work to beat the heat. I came at 10pm and waited a while before being seated because there was only one staff handling the tables and the cash register. So from my first impression, the place was understaffed. It also took a while to flag down the only staff working because she was so busy. I decided to get the strawberry mango ice cream icy because I love mangos and strawberries so why not both? It also came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. The portion was pretty big but nothing I can't handle. You also get a bottle of condensed milk so you can make it however sweet you want it to. Being a fan of Ice Monster in Taipei, this place was only okay. The price for the portion was pretty expensive and the service was slow. The shaved ice was a bit too crunchy for my liking and the fruits were sour, although that wasn't their fault of course--no place can beat Taiwan's sweet mangos. Overall it was decent but not mind blowing. I'll probably still come back for more when the weather gets even hotter! read more

There's also the option of more toppings! One of my cousins picked peanuts as the topping which personally I don't like (I honestly suggest you get another topping because there's so many to choose from) but hey if you love peanuts by all means go ahead!! (peanuts were cooked and soft btw) I was sad that my earl grey milk tea wasn't sweet but you can probably ask them to sweeten it for you! There's nothing really special about icy bar. If you have a craving for shaved ice with heaping amounts of toppings and condensed milk then it's great for you. I prefer flavored or creamy shaved ice like bingsoo so icy bar isn't up to par of what I like. Great mango toast and pancakes though! read more

I'm not a huge fan of shaved ice, so I'm not the best critic of Icy Bar. Since I don't like shaved ice, I ordered a mango slush, and it was delicious. There's certainly a lot of options for toppings of shaved ice, and the portions are HUGE, so if that's your thing, you will probably like it here. There's a minimum order per person and a time limit for seating, which sucks, but if the place is busy, I suppose they need to. Our server was quite sour. My first and only time at this Icy Bar location was several months ago and I was underwhelmed with both the service and overall vibe of the employees and the store. Today, under NEW management, this location has done a 180 and has incredibly impressed me. The menu is the same but the new owner, David, has changed the store for the better-- what was once just boring, lifeless restaurant has now been replaced with a fun, welcoming hangout that provides excellent customer service and delicious shaved ice desserts! I highly recommend the Mango Tapioca Icy from their "Cup Shaved Icy" series. Absolutely delicious. Five stars! read more

I like their mango and Tiramisu pancakes, as well as their mango and lychee flavoured shaved ice. Tried the milk and taro flavoured shaved ice but weren't as good. My favourite toppings are any of their chopped fruit, almond jelly, mixed jelly, and poppers. I wasn't a fan of their mochi toppings, though.
