I have been an iClips customer for almost 7 years now, and I have always had a good experience. Most recently, May was my stylist. She is very sweet and provides a quick haircut with care (about 20 mins and $35 for a wet cut on long, wavy hair). Just make sure that if a stylist casually offers you any product during the cut (e.g., detangling gel), ask if there will be an up-charge. ;) (Gel added $10 to cost) Live and learn, I guess! I'm also surprised that my manicure lasted over 3.5 weeks! In general, nail services in Austin are pricier compared to Dallas salons. And then a new owner takes over the shop, instals some crazy computing system that does not offer Matt's name at all in its option for who I want to make an appointment with. I would highly recommend this place for threading. Both Roopa and the Persian woman do a great job with your brows. I was a customer here when I was a student at UT, and now that I've moved to Austin permanently, this is my go-to place. Every time I fight traffic to drive downtown after work, I consider finding a threading place closer to where I live, but then I'm so satisfied with my service that I know I have to come back to i-Clips. Honestly the worst experience ever. My friend and I go in together and the lady starts to do my toes, while my friend sits there for 20 mins so she leaves and I'm stuck. Then the lady scrubs my toes so hard they start to bleed.. After that I choose a simple two colors on my toes which is an opposite French- she fails to do that so then I settle with just one color. I accidentally found Iclips when I stopped right in front of the store to search on my phone for directions to another nail salon on the Drag. Since then I have gotten two manicures, a pedicure, and my eyebrows threaded, all by a nice Vietnamese woman named Dao. She is highly skilled, extremely meticulous, and takes her time with everything. (In fact when my friend and I came here for a mani+pedi together, we watched an entire Austin Powers movie.) Seriously, she does an INCREDIBLE job. My friend, who visits nail salons regularly, says it was the best mani/pedi she's ever had in her life! The best part about Iclips is that it's affordable. Mani and threading are $10 and pedi is $20. It's kind of easy to walk by and miss this place because their windows are opaque/tinted, but I'm convinced it's the best place to get your manicure, pedicure, and threading on the Drag. read more

I had absolutely no knowledge of this place until my hair stylist (Jenny) moved to this location. Apparently the owners of iClips and Mane Express are cousins? I don't really know. What I do know is that Jenny still gave great hair cuts and that this location was smaller, but definitely cleaner and generally more attractive than the Mane Express location. Because I kept putting off finding a place to get my eyebrows done, things got to be a... well, hairy mess. So this evening on my way biking home, I decided that I had to be able to see out from under my bushy brow(s?). Since I was headed for Madame Mam's, I happened to notice iclips (partly due to their Grand Opening banner). I ran in just about 6:45ish--notice they close at 7--but I was greeted with a smile and asked what they could do to help me. When I asked about getting my eyebrows waxed, the gal behind the counter asked me to wait a minute. It couldn't have been longer than that, when Minca (I think I got her name right) came over. She asked me if I wanted threading, which I had never really heard of. I thought I wanted waxing, but through a lack of decisiveness on my part, we went with the threading. It's a very interesting experience, but she did a great job with my eyebrows. Minca also mentioned that it should last longer. Overall, very satisfied with my experience. I usually go here to get my eyebrows threaded by an older lady. Yesterday I went and a new girl had done them. They looked really bad, I almost cried. I thought something was off when she threaded my brow so hard my eyes started watering, which they never do. Then when I looked, a big piece of my right brow was missing hair. I think not. You want your simple shellac to take 2hrs? Read about my awful experience and maybe this will save you from wasting your money. Feel bad for the young girls who have to settle with this establishment! First off I called ahead to set my appointment, the person who answered the phone confirmed with the nail tech that the time I was told was open. I wanted shellac on my nails and had already removed shellac from 7 nails, saving time in the removal of the polish. I showed up 5min before my appointment. I was surprised how small it was. Only 2 nail stations and one was pushed out of the way against the wall. So I knew they only had one nail tech. One woman finally pulled out the station that was up against the wall 15min after my appointment was scheduled for. Fine. Another 15min later and the only nail tech finally came over to start the "process" I have never experienced such awful nail service before. I have been having my nails done since college, so about 12yr. So now 45min after my appointment was supposed to start he proceeded to soak my cuticles, which the water to soak in had no soap and was cold, and "shaping" them was the slowest unbearable process ever! The nail tech seemed as if he had never done nails before. I had to ask him why he did two clear bottom coats on my right hand and only 1 clear bottom coat on my left. Obviously I could have done it myself, I was reminding him what he was supposed to be doing. Ok so now 1hr and 15min in as he's dabbing polish on, yes dabbing, not using a stroke, he does three nails on one side then 3 on the other, then the other 2, etc. ass backwards! Made no sense. WTH! Finally clear coat 1hr 15mi in!!!!! It's sticky after its in the dryer!!!!! So he runs over to get the correct top coat. This guy is probably not licensed! Should have just waited to go to the amazing nail salon I've been going to since moving here! At least there in an hour I get shellac, paraffin hand treatment & massage!!!! In an hour. This crappy service was 2hr long. WORST NAIL SERVICE EVER!!!!!! Do NOT go here. They don't know nails. I don't think he's even got a license. read more

A friend and I decided to go to Iclips after seeing the good rating on here, but I don't understand why it's rated so high. We called ahead to make appointments and were told to come in at six. When we got there, the lady that we talked to was rude and we still ended up waiting quite some time before we were able to get our nails done. We both got mani/pedis and both of our manicures were awful. I got my eyebrows threaded, which I guess went alright, but while I was holding my forehead/eye for her to thread, she messed up my manicure with the thread! On top of this, my other nails didn't even last a few hours after I left! I will say, though, whoever did my toes did a much better job, and they still look fine (though it's only been a few days). I have been here a bunch of times to get eyebrow threading and waxing from Roopa. She does a great job, except that the last time I was left with a huge, intense scar for a week. Most women have sensitive skin at different times of the month, and mine was very sensitive. She commented on this but perhaps has not dealt with this issue, because what happened was that she went to low, too close to the eye, and that skin couldn't handle the force of a wax strip. I felt violated and angry and that she did not take the sensitive skin seriously or else she would have been EXTRA careful not too wax in a place where she shouldn't have. People thought I had been in an accident, it looked horrible and traumatizing and I was concerned about permanent damage for a few days. read more

Personally my worst haircut experience. I think it's important to precise there is no shampoo nor blowdry service. I showed a pic and asked if she is able to do that. We had a lack of communication as am French and she was an asian lady we were not able to understand eachother. I asked for layers and as soon as she took my hair and pulled all together to cut I got so scared, I asked her just to trim. She wet my hair with water in a spray bottle, asked me to stand and she cut my hair. Rate was around $18 but for the result its not worth it. I am in no way a mani-pedi kind of girl, but we partied it up in Las Vegas for New Years, so I decided to get French tip acrylic nails while I was there. After returning to Austin, I went to Iclips to have my acrylics removed. It's right around the corner from my apartment, super convenient. I called ahead but no appointment was needed-- also awesome. In fact, the only people in the place were the girl that removed my acrylics, and another woman that seemed to either work there and was bored out of her mind, or maybe she just hangs out there for no reason and uses the massage chairs as she pleases. Anyway, everything was okay. And it cost me $10, which I was also fine with. The only real complaint I have is that the lady soaked my finger tips in acetone for 90 seconds before digging in. Right before she started, she said, "Let me know if it hurts, okay?" Then she proceeded to rip out my nails and interrogate me for Russian missile secrets. I kept screaming out "I don't have the information you're looking for!" Or maybe she didn't say anything at all-- I don't know, I couldn't hear or see anything. I was too focused on the pain. Every time I said "that hurts" or made a pained noise, she would stop, say, "let me know if it hurts," and then resume the interrogation. By the time we were done, the last couple acrylics to be removed were of course the ones that soaked the longest, and they slid right off, pain-free. My god, I wish she had soaked all of my fingers that long. I wouldn't have minded hanging around there for 5, 10, 15 minutes longer. I had nothing to do, and by the look of how busy they were, neither did they. I've never felt such pain. I'm giving them some benefit of the doubt since this is a first time experience for me. (Perhaps also my last). Damn, those French tips looked sooo good on my fingers. There's got to be a better way. read more

For guys avoid the older Vietnamese lady at all costs. I made the mistake of letting her cut my hair and it ended up being the worst haircut I have ever received. Then she had the audacity to say that it was bad because of my hair type?? I have been getting haircuts for over 20 years and never have I had such a disaster of a haircut. If you're expecting a best friend out of your new threader, that is not what you will get. Things I don't like: 1) Parking situation is awful. Consider the fact that you are on campus and will likely drive around looking for a spot and have to pay $1 for parking. 2) The threader is not talkative or very warm, and she will move your hand around your face for you, something I have never experienced. Things I LOVE: 1) You get in, you get out. 2) I have some nice thick brows with my perfect shape maintained. I'm very pleased after my first visit to Iclips for a gel manicure. The staff are friendly, professional, and make good conversation. The tools were single use, or sealed, and clean. The salon itself is small, no frills, and older, but it is neat and tidy. The original color I wanted wasn't available, but a similar color that I actually liked better was recommended. Great care was taken to make sure all my nails were filed in the same shape and same length, which I often find is overlooked or haphazardly. The polish looks great without any bleeding onto my skin or gaps at the top. My $25 manicure looks better than others I've paid $40 for. I will certainly be a regular customer from now on. read more
