Driving down the coast..time for an early dinner. Me and the daughter could not agree, so we ended up here..as she wanted sushi and i some sort of noodle dish. Walked in at around 4 :30 pm ..only one other table filled. Though there was a load of cars outside. Guessing most were in theb"no minors allowed " area. The girl serving was absolutely awesome from the start, so likable and cheerful. I ordered the chicken yakisoba, daughter ordered a spicy tuna roll and some gyoza Tasted the gyoza..very good they do them crispy..presumably deep fried. My yakisoba was OK..neither good or bad..acceptable and i ate it all. The kid inhaled the sushi roll..so could not taste..she said it was excellent. Food was lukewarm, limp, and generally unappealing nevertheless, I don't cook Chinese food, so I guess it was better than my own... the beef didn't look very perky and tasted a little slimy in texture. It was overall just a not very good meal in a quite outdated and rundown decor of a place. Portion sizes were very small, which is not really something you expect from Chinese food, right? We were driving thru Florence on our way home, and decided to get some lunch before stopping in Eugene. Our original plan was to try Hukilau again, but the line was so long that we decided to try Ichiban instead. To be honest, the sole reason I chose Ichiban was because of the pictures on Yelp! When I saw a picture of the vintage car in the dining room, i thought I'd be a fool not to check it out! When we arrived, there was no one around except two Asian ladies (owners?) in the dining area. They quickly greeted us and took our order right away. I ordered the spider roll, while my boyfriend ordered the lunch bento box special. Since it's covid time, we were not allowed to dine in. However, the owner allowed us to wait in the room with the vintage car! (Yes, I sat in that car and had my boyfriend take pics). It felt a bit unreal to sit in a pink room with a car covered with the orange flames. My boyfriend and I came up a bunch of conspiracies how the car ended up there, and we (mostly me) agreed it was worth stopping in for! Since we were there for the car, we had very little expectations for the food. I think my spider roll was alright, everything was fresh and well wrapped. It's not sushi house quality but pretty decent. However, we were impressed by their bento special! Everything was delicious and the honey chicken blew my boyfriend away! "I really like the honey chicken!" He said", and i replied "I know." The chicken was hot and crunchy, while the sauce has this honey like taste. According to my boyfriend, it's like orange chicken but more subtle and delicious! I'm a picky eater for authentic Chinese cooking, but I also appreciate a good Chinese-American restaurant, since it's part of the American culinary heritage. This place has a great bento box which come with tons of delicious Chinese staples (stir-fried noodles/rice, tempura shrimps, and of course the delicious honey chicken!) and THE CAR! Disappointed. I ordered chow fun. That means flat, thin noodles. Instead I got what looks like spaghetti pasta. Very little sauce or chicken. Very little taste. Ordered take out, so I didn't bother driving across town to complain. My wife got cashew chicken. It was okay. Just okay. The dog even turned his nose away from it. The service is fine, but this was the worst Chinese food I have ever had, tasteless and unappealing. The orange chicken and sweet and sour pork were like premade nuggets that had been fried and then covered in a bright but bland sauce. The shrimp with snow peas was better but still tasteless. The only thing that saved it was dousing it with soy sauce. You couldn't taste the crab in the crab rolls, the tempura was doughy rather than crispy, and the egg rolls were mushy. The only reason I'm not giving this restaurant 5 stars is the lack of ambiance. Food, service & value for your $ was all 5 stars. This is not a sushi restaurant. So when the parking lot is full we do not stop! Sooooo happy to have found sesame tofu! It's been forever. The sauce is a bit on the sweet side so I had a hard time eating much of it in one sitting but with such a large portion that means more leftovers! E got the sesame chicken and also really enjoyed it but had the same comment about how it was hard to finish due to how sweet the sauce was (don't worry, he powered through). It falls into another mediocre restaurant with an interior from the 60's... run down old falling apart nasty, that smelled like mold and cigarette smoke ! The food was marginal at best and I do beleve they picked a good name ... Itchy Ban ! We'll have to Ban that Itchy from the obviously dirty place it is... Great restaurant with good atmosphere. As my standard for Japanese resturants I got the charashi dish and I was not disappoint. Generous portions of raw fish and no filler pieces like fake crab meat or sweet tofu. Good quality fish and excellent presentation. Waitress was friendly and food was served quickly. Friend got a tiger roll that didn't look as appetizing as my charashi but turned out pretty good as well. I want to come back to try the Chinese menu. The new location is huge! We sat in the main room since they weren't that busy. They served a new tea and it was tasteless and not appealing. So I'm bummed about that. Last time I was here at their old location they had a different type of rice and I didn't like it but figured they would maybe get complaints and change back. A year has passed and I've returned and the rice is yummy again. I had there special roll. It was the Salem roll. It was sooooo yummy. I also had the albacore tuna roll and I shared it with my 3 year old daughter and she loved it. My husband had the Orange chicken and I tried it. The sauce was super sweet. I never tried their Chinese food before. I think I'll just stick the Japanese. My mom had some pieces of salmon sushi that came with her bento box. She shared one with me and the fish was soooo fresh. The service was ok. There was only two waitresses both of them checked on us. One didn't realize that we were her table. I never received more water but we did receive more refills for my Husbands soda and my moms tea. I will definitely come back because I love their sushi rolls. The moment we walked in the door we were greeted warmly and invited to take a seat. The waitress was kind and outgoing and had a lovely sense of humor. (Such a contrast to the other place we walked out of 20 minutes earlier!) We kept it simple and ordered the Chinese appetizer sampler and the Sizzling Happy Family. The wait for our food was short and both were fantastic. The appetizers came out first and were full of flavor and variety, everything cooked to perfection. The Happy Family was unique in that is also added crab to the meat portion (Yum!) of the dish. Vegetables were not overcooked still holding their crispness while the brown sauce blended all the ingredients together beautifully. I am not a local but my experience here was very pleasant and the next time I am in town, I would definitely visit again. read more

I went to Ichiban one night because I was craving sushi while on a work trip in Florence. They offer both Chinese and Japanese food but I can only speak for the sushi since that's all I ordered. The customer service (for take out) was friendly and sufficient. The food however, did not leave a positive impression. I ordered the ichiban roll, the salem roll, and the volcano roll. The tempura batter on the shrimp was thick and not crunchy, the fish was okay (not terrible but didn't exactly taste super fresh). There was a lot of sauce on what I assume is the ichiban roll and that was good, but kind of overkill. Overall, if you're desperate for sushi in Florence, maybe give it a go? But I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to stop here for sushi while road tripping on the 101. read more

I find myself quite conflicted after our meal at Ichiban tonight, because there were strong pluses and minuses to almost everything we ate! First off, the menu was notable for its nice variety of dishes, from Japanese sushi, tempura & bento meals to Hong Kong noodles & your typical Chinese fare, in addition to Americanized Chinese "combo" meals. The downside here is that the number of dishes from each region were somewhat limited, for obvious reasons. The service was pretty good. We had the family dinner for two & our impressions were that: None of the soups were great. The appetizers were tasty/well prepared, although we were not offered potsticker sauce for the gyoza or cocktail sauce/mustard for the spring rolls. Our entrees were as follows: The Kung Pao chicken was well cooked but bland. It was prepared with no dried red peppers & precious few peanuts. The pork fried rice looked beautiful on the plate, but was rather greasy & lacked flavor. The fried shrimp were very nicely cooked and NOT greasy at ALL, with a nice, crisp panko coating. They were also, unfortunately extremely bland. Finally....I really wanted to love the Mongolian Beef because the sauce was nice & the beef tasted great & was very tender. But ALAS, there truly was not enough beef on the plate to make a small lunch order. What there WAS on the serving plate was a huge pile of white onions, a handful of scallions/green peppers all atop a small scattering of soggy cellophane noodles. We ate there last night and there was no Japanese food to speak of. Soooo, I was disappointed. We had the special, your basic Chinese American food. 3 stars because it was a ton of food for 10$. And if you like the usual deep fried dishes you'll be happy. The hot and sour soup was bland and the food all one note (honey chicken, chicken lo mein, fried shrimp). My husband got the Teri chicken bento. It was adequate. I was bummed because I expected Japanese food. There was a sushi bar... But no one in attendance and very few items on the menu related to Japanese food. We won't be going back. read more
