The two guys who came today from Iceberg mechanical showed up on time, but that's about the best I can say. I won't call Iceberg again. When I called to make the appointment yesterday, the lady who answered the phone told me that they could show up today. What really surprised me was that the first hour cost $350, and a subsequent hours cost only $300 an hour. When the two guys showed up at 9:30 AM, I told them that I was interested in a check of the coolant levels in both of our yards. I followed the guys downstairs to open up one of our two units, and it took both of them just over 20 minutes to open up a side panel while using a 7 inch straight drill bit. Based on that pretty unimpressive performance, I told them not to check the coils on the second unit, but rather told them that again I wanted the coolant levels checked. One of the guys told me that he refused to put the coolant in, that was required, because he did not physically inspect the coils of the second unit. He lobbied for the two of them to open the second unit. I asked them to leave. If you're gonna charge $350 an hour, you need to be pretty amazing at what you do. I paid $390 for 2 guys to clean one set of coils and put in a filter that I provided; no 'Freon.' They were anything but helpful and I won't use Iceberg again. read more

Everyone wants one now! Split systems are a rare find in suburban residential units, though their popularity is increasing as homeowners like myself learn about the benefits of the systems vs the alternatives. I heard about Iceberg Mechanical through a family friend for whom they did a large commercial project for of which they were extremely satisfied about the service they received from the entire team from job estimate to completion to preventative maintenance. My experience with the organization has been superb. I called on a Monday morning and was able to get a rep to come by Tuesday afternoon to provide an estimate. The estimate was fair and inline with the both the quality of the units and the service I eventually received. Part of the estimate process was that the rep, Joseph, sought my input when needed and offered suggestions regarding the install details and together we were able to solve some of the realistic challenges that arise when installing such units (like where is the best place to mount the base unit given the specifics of your home relative to electrical panel, condensation drainage line, in-wall/outside wall electrical/plumbing features...etc). I like the fact that I knew exactly what was going to happen and why each detail was the way it was! Long story short - Nelson and Jose did my install this past June 8th and their great teamwork (which was refreshing to watch) had the job completed in a timely, professional, and CLEAN fashion. This past weekend, a neighbors landscaper accidentally shot a large rock into the fan of the unit (from their weed wacker) and the rock damaged the fan in such a way that it no longer could spin at its high RPMs in a smooth continual motion and hence caused a noticeable vibration. I spoke with Linda in the office who was able to get someone to me the next day to troubleshoot the issue (and explaining why the vibration was being caused). Though financial responsibility is being handled by the landscaping company - I was extremely satisfied with the prompt response time by Iceberg and their ability to get it fixed in just a couple of hours!! Everyone that sees the unit asks about it and when they experience the practically silent, powerful cooling ability they have - they all want one! My advise to everyone is to use a reputable organization to install your units (Iceberg is a Diamond Dealer of the Mitsubishi systems) that provide guarantees and warranties and are fully insured - especially for situations that could arise like mine! read more

I cannot speak highly enough about Paul and his staff! I have a temperamental HVAC system that was partially damaged by another company. Therefore, Paul and his crew stepped into a difficult situation and time and time again, refined and retuned the existing system (even though it would have been far more lucrative for them to recommend my installing a new system), to the point where the old system is functioning as well as it did when it was new! Not only were they able to bring an impressive level of technical knowledge into what was honestly a crisis situation for me, but they did so with the utmost in integrity, enthusiasm, professionalism and outstanding customer support. They are Mitsubishi experts and also do a lot of other split systems. I like them because they are the problem solvers. I contacted the (supposed) VP who didn't reply for over a month, then I called the office, made an appointment - the guy did NOT call to confirm, and didn't show up for the appointment. I called the office and said I'd be available for the next hour - no call... Eventually I called again and she said, "well the guy said he never confirmed, so he's not coming, what do you want me to do about it?" I explained I took the morning off work to see him, I am looking for someone to quote my work, I dont know what they would be like if I need them to come FIX a problem. Gotta say these guys are top-notch professionals. We just had a whole-house ductless split system installed and we could not be happier. From proposal (I came to them through Home Depot as they are one of their "Service Providers") to installation I found everyone I dealt with to be competent and friendly. I did have another company come in for a quote and Iceberg assured me the first quote from the competitor was over-priced and would not be energy efficient. Turns out we have great cooling with fewer units and smaller compressor. This will save us money down the road. The installation was smoother than most in-home installs I've experienced and though they estimated a 4 day installation it only took 2 1/2 days. They were clean, quiet, and conscientious about keeping my home as clean as possible when they left. It was necesasry to move the compressor after they installed it and they did so with no complaints (sort of my fault for saying it was OK where they first installed it but the spouse insisted they move it to a better location on our back wall - what do I know about these things?) and in less than 30 minutes. We did have some minor money negotiations at the end which were resolved easily and professionally. The best thing is that we are enjoying the best AC we've ever enjoyed anywhere! I am running all units at temps of 77/78 - way higher than the old window units, and much cooler/quiter - and that's plenty cool enough! One unit cools the entire first floor (we have a pretty open floor plan though) quietly and cleanly. WOW. Can't speak yet for the heating ability but if I can throw out a few radiators, leaving just 1 or 2, I will be delighted. Lets see what winter brings; stay tuned for an update to my review in a few months when its snowing outside! MANY PROBLEMS. I had 5 compressors and 13 air handlers installed in my house eight years ago by ICEBERG. EVERYTHING has been failing now. My service folks tell me that they did not use the proper gauge wiring, so one line failed. One compressor has a coolant leak, which fortunately was located by my service people, so the entire coolant line run did not have to be replaced. Another run just went on the blink today. Wires were crossed on another line. A big job, to the tune of $75,000, significant parts of which they did incompetently. THANKS. Yes, I was a client of Iceberg Mechanical. Dreadful service and dishonest practices. After providing an estimate for a Mitsubishi A/C system they decided to install a lower level unit but insisted the price was the same. They also promised free maintenance service for a year, but when I called they would not answer messages even though the receptionist promised a return call. After several attempts it became clear that they were never going to show up. If you're looking for this kind of unit find someone else to avoid being screwed. read more

Iceberg just installed a split system in our Brooklyn brownstone. Found them via the Mitsubishi website, as a "Diamond Contractor". They were great, from start to finish. The installation crew was pleasant to deal with, they did a nice job, and when they were done they left the house as they found it. We had Iceberg install the Mitsubishi Split System about four years ago. We had two condensers placed on beams on our roof and five air handlers throughout the house. We have been so pleased by the installation and operation of the units. We especially love the ability to heat individual rooms in the winter while keeping the whole house cooler. When redoing our basement this year we had Iceberg install an additional condenser in the back yard and air handler in the room. The new service they have, matching the color of the air handler to your walls, is great! read more
