I came here recently with my friend, and we wanted their mochi. They were sold out but the owner was nice enough to make use a new batch! We got the mango mochi and they were sooo fresh!!! Real pieces of mango were inside. It wasn't too sweet which was good and it was super soft. I appreciate the workers being so nice and they even talked to us while we waited for them to make it. My chinese is a little bit broken,so i spoke some chinglish, but I still managed to order it!. Next time i'll try the Durian mochi! read more

If you're here, make sure you get the mango mochi. I am not even a fan of mochi but I fell in love with it @first bite. It was chewy, soft and so tasty. The mangoes inside were soO fresh. If I drove to SF, I would have bought like a dozen a 2 to share with family and coworkers. There milk was pretty good as well. Not too milky, tea flavor was strong enough and wasn't too sweet. I eat a plant based diet and I'm mostly vegan. I tried #8 iCafe's nutritiously vegetarians "tamale" (Chinese call "zongzi" or sticky rice dumplings). This is a wonderful bakery with delicious food. We came for a visit and Hannah was such a great person. She spent time teaching us how she makes the Chinese tamales. It was so interesting. Tucked away on Waverly, this little bakery was a nice find! Clearly where the locals like to come spend their day drinking coffee and enjoying pastries while watching Chinese tv. The girl behind the counter was very friendly and helpful. We ordered a dozen of their mochi (that day it was mango and black sesame) and half dozen of their freshly baked BBQ pork buns. They added a bonus red bean paste bun that they made completely from scratch. The mochi was quite good. The mango one has chunks of sweet mango in it while the sesame one was filled with coconut, peanuts, and sugar. So good. The BBQ pork buns were fairly good. Prices are fair. Worth another trip to try some more of their offerings! read more

I went to try this cafe this afternoon, ordered paper cupcake, egg caster, chicken tail bun and green onion bun and a big cup of coffee, total only $6.50. The place is very clean and the service is fast , the bakery are delicious except the egg caster. The lady owner is very friendly, maybe the time we went are quiet, before we left she said please come again. I definitely will go back to try other items! read more

So I finally was able to try their specialty mango Mochi which I admit was pretty good. Diff flavor fill Mochi definitely need to pre-orders in advance and this time the lady was very nice even though I can't speak Chinese. I also order their special sticky rice wrap in banana leaf called Jong. It was pretty good. Their filled( custard $ bbq pork) pineapple bun wasn't all that like people said it is on Yelp. I would give a better review if not for a few past bad experiences there plus I didn't get to try their other Mochi flavors. I will update on my next future encounter. read more

My husband's side of the family are Chinese so we always visit Chinatown and compare buns at different places when we travel. Went here and got a bbq pork bun and one with the corn cause I saw it in a picture on here and had never seen that before. The pork bun didnt have the texture on the top youd expect for a bun. It was kinda dry? There wasnt much pork in it either. Kinda watery my husband said. We did finish the one between the two of us tho. The corn one... that was a hard no. We may be biased coming from the land of sweet corn but the corn in this tasted like the frozen stuff. Ate half or my half and couldnt do more. Hubs ate even less. ‍ fun to compare but it was a no for us. read more

Popped into iCafe bakery in Chinatown for a coffee and quick snack I could eat while walking around. I was tempted by the colorful Pork Sung Buns in the glass case. It had ham, cheese, green onions and mayonnaise--I was surprised by the mayo at first, but it added a nice sweet and tangy flavor. read more

This place is amazing, their pastries are some of the best ones you can buy in Chinatown. They are also selling Chinese Rice Cake/Tamales for Dragon Boat Festival. This place has the best buns in the world. But if you want something that will blow your socks off, definitely try out their fruit stuffed mochi. It is so good, I can keep coming back for more. Change Ownership - New Owner?? I used to go to this iCafe on Walter U Lum Pl to get coffee and mango mochi for a couple of years now. I've met the owner who is a very nice and friendly guy. As time passed, the owner opened another store on Waverly Pl that is just a couple blocks up. Due to the SIP, the store has been closed since March. Since the businesses are reopening, I called the store multiple times to check if they are opened yet. I spoke to a lady who answered the phone and said she's the owner. I asked how long this business was under new management and she denied there was ever a previous owner, then hang up on me. That was totally unacceptable and rude as I wanted to see if I could place an order. I don't think I will be returning to the café as it seems the positive vibes left with the original owner. read more

I recently discovered that this iCafe on Waverly Place replaced what used to be the Blossom Bakery which used to be the Wonder Food company. What a downgrade. I have been coming here for so many years as the "go-to" place in Chinatown for cocktail buns and don tart (egg custard tarts). I'm not sure if iCafe just bought out the place or what. Was bringing my dad to an Acupunture appt. but was too early. So we decide to go for a quick breakfast across the street. ...... OMG!! Bbq pork buns with crispy toppings was to die for. Just like Michelin star tim Ho wan in Hong Kong but was much bigger and cheaper. Super hot and fresh with yummy gooey delicious bbq pork and onions. A little hole in the wall shop that I found. We went in to try their egg tart but end up buying the durian mochi instead. The older lady was a bit rude, couple with her changing prices. She started telling us that the mochi was about a dollar something... then the price rises to 4 for $10 dollar. This little hole-in-the-wall Chinese cafe has become a staple in my life. Their Hong Kong milk tea is freshly made and piping hot with just the right amount of sweetness. But, what everyone comes here for is their crispy char siu bao. This thing is big, savory, sweet, soft, and crunchy all at the same time. And, the kicker to boot is that it's only $1.25, as compared to most Chinatown bakeries, which just do the regular baked char siu bao without anything added, and it's still just as expensive. I also like how they have the most extensive drink cooler in the whole of Chinatown cafes. Sit, sip, eat. Enjoy some classic Chinese opera songs while you people watch with the arguing elderly Chinese gentlemen next to you. read more

This place used to be called Blossom, but now it's called iCafe and really, it's just a Chinese bakery serving boba now, if you don't really know what it is from a glance. I hopped in one morning during my daan tat quest and ordered a daan tat. The staff is really good at English for those who don't know Cantonese. The daan tat was fresh and when I took a bite, it just had the right amount of sweetness and flake for $1.25. I really enjoyed it! Plus, it's nice to know I can come here and grab other pastries or boba instead of waiting in line forever at Golden Gate for just the daan tat or some misc pastries, or have to go to two places for Chinese pastries and boba. Went mid afternoon on a busy Chinatown street fair day to icafe. Was able to buy the last turnip cake (lo bok go) with lots of shrimp & bits of Chinese sausage and sweet new year rice cake (neen go). Both presented in a beautiful box. Both delicious and fresh! read more

The egg tarts are really worth it for the price ($1.25 each), but the highlight for me was definitely the BBQ Pork Bun! They're quite generous with the filling (just a note though, the filling has pieces of onions in it), and the bun itself is so crunchy! read more

Went to ICafe today to try out their mango mochi and durian mochi. The mango was $1.50 each and it was ok. The durian was $2.50 each. It was better than mango. However, I think I had a better fruit mochi in Japantown where they made fresh mochi and it is also $1.50 each. I don't think I would come back here again. read more

I-cafe was previously called Wonder bakery. Mr. Chu sold the bakery to Noble and renamed it I-cafe. He continued the recipe for the famous Pineapple bun and raised the price a dime to $.60 cents. The loyal followers continued to stay around. One day, Noble decided he wanted to upgrade the bakery. He raised the prices of his coffee and baked goods. Sadly, he lost 95% of the business. The pineapple buns went to $1.25 each and the quality declined. The size of the baked goods also shrank. Prices went up and quality went down. It was sad. The neighbors begin to talk that Garden Bakery on Jackson street had a better quality and were better in taste, especially the pineapple bun. It was fresh and soft for .60 cents each. Noble passed away suddenly, his very close friend, Hanna took over the business since she was working at the I-cafe. The spouse was never involved so Hanna took over the business. The pineapple bun continue to get worse, Was it a new baker? since Hanna was not the baker. I gave I-cafe another chance but the pineapple bun, it was hard and not fresh. So it was a no brainer to go to Garden Bakery for my baked goods. Garden baked goods are priced right and tasty. I hope Hanna is reading this review and improve the quality of her baked goods. read more
