    Grilled pork banh mi

Stopped by this newly opened Vietnamese café and placed a phone order due to a tight schedule, really appreciated that they were able to accommodate orders over the phone. The space itself is small but charming, and they also have a kiosk for ordering in-store. I ordered the salted cream iced coffee with coffee jelly. Unfortunately, they had run out of the coffee jelly and I wasn't informed over the phone, which was a bit disappointing. When I arrived, my sandwich was ready, but the coffee wasn't prepared yet. They mentioned they wanted to make it fresh rather than letting it sit, which I did appreciate. The drink itself was strong and flavorful, leaning more on the bitter side, so it's great if you prefer a less sweet coffee. I'm curious how it would've been with the coffee jelly. I also tried the pork banh mi, which was the biggest letdown of the visit. It had very little meat and didn't quite justify the $13 price point. I was still hungry after. (see pic for ref) Also wanted to try the combo banh mi but looks like they don't have it ready yet either. That said, since they just opened, it feels like they're still working through some early kinks. I'm on the fence about returning, but I did notice they offer durian soft serve, which definitely has me intrigued enough to potentially give them another shot.

4.5 stars I haven't really seen any spots serving egg cream viet coffee in the city so when I saw it on the menu, I had to try! Tbf I don't think I've had one before to compare, but I thought it was a nice, strong coffee with slightly sweet and custardy flavor. They also sell banh mi, which did take a few minutes for them to prepare but I guess that's a sign that it was made fresh to order. It was decent with a good amount of filling. The bread was lightly crispy with a soft center. Service was friendly. The interior was cute but I don't think they're done setting up, looks promising though!

Tried this new Vietnamese coffee and banh mi spot on New Montgomery yesterday morning and really enjoyed the strength and not-to-sweetness of the egg cream coffee. The cream isn't as thick as some of the other egg coffees I've tried, so just up to personal preference! The coffee comes with a nice jelly by default, so if you prefer no toppings, you need to proactively say so. I would come back to try the other coffee flavors and a sandwich!

Was excited to check out a new Vietnamese coffee spot so close to work but unfortunately this missed the mark. We ordered on the kiosk and my friend that ordered after me got her drink first. I asked the people at the counter if the drink sitting there was for me (I mentioned my name) and they said no it's not. After ten more minutes we got our banh mi but I still hadn't gotten my drink and I asked again. Then the lady went oh this drink on the counter is yours it's been sitting there for a while. I was confused because they didn't call my name and when I asked if it was my drink they said it wasn't. The banh mi was also just fine, not the best I've had and there's better options in downtown if you're craving a banh mi. The coffee itself also didn't have a ton of coconut flavor and by the time I got it, it was all watered down because it was just sitting there. I get that it's soft opening but there's a lot of improvements to be made so I don't think I'll be going back.

Our group came around 1pm and was able to grab the last 3 sets. Our party of 6 was able to share the 3 sets and feel relatively full. There was a range of dishes, of the selection the tempura and the silky eat was quite delicious. We found the Napa to be a bit floral for our taste but a perfect palette cleanser. The staff were the sweetest and combined tables together to let our party sit together. They even put a candle in the matcha tart for my birthday!

I got the strawberry matcha and the seasonal lavender matcha. Both drinks were bitter and tasted watered down. Default sweetness was not too sweet but the matcha didn't have the creaminess even with regular milk. Strawberry puree was good but not enough to carry the diluted matcha. The matcha cream pie was solid. Soft matcha filling with very crispy edge. Whipped cream on top was also tasty. Would not come back here for the matcha. Maybe their food is better. With matcha coming out that quick feels like it wasn't prepared well and lost its quality. Street parking here or parking garage next street over.

Turns out she was right. I had a matcha latte half sweet, and it was delicious- high quality matcha, not too strong or sweet. We did wait about 10min for our order, service is kind but busy. This is a stand nestled in the middle of the Japan Center Mall, so recommend grabbing a sip here and wandering around. Just heads up that many stores don't allow outside drink.

Worth the hype IMO,, I'll be stopping by every time we go to Japantown from now on.
