A great place and good show. But why the heck does the doorman ask for a tip when you pay your admission price. Very odd.

Stopped by here late on Saturday, holiday weekend while in town, and it was packed! Usually regarded as the best gay bar in Tucson, I had to check it out. Well, after one beer, I left. Why? I have been in many bars and dance clubs before, but this place gets packed. Okay. But people here are just rude. I have had more polite brush bys in bitter Manhattan, trust me, and those places can leave bruises. Most guys don't bother saying excuse me, and just fucking shove, no manners what so ever. There were a decent amount of ladies representing, but the problem with gay dominated clubs, is they tend to bring along their straight girl friends, who just want a break and dance. Understandable . But if you are a lady, hoping to perhaps talk to another lady in that "special" way, this sucks. The back room had a good dj, but was so packed, you couldn't make it past the door way (unless you were an asshole and shoved like everyone else-for what?), and the women's bathroom was unfortunately placed right at the entrance of the back room. Thanks, guys. The front dance room had a better vibe, but there were...um. Glow sticks. Not really my scene. Sorry. I found the staff nice, the bartenders pretty good despite some of the bitchier glitter queens, and was surprised to find it cash only (they have an ATM inside, thank god-at an additional 2 bucks, of course), and some of the ladies were pretty diverse. I like busy places (is there anything more depressing than an empty gay club?), but people need to fucking chill out. Ugh. This place has been around for decades as the only gay bar in Tucson. Back in the day it had great music and a packed dance floor with lots of cute boys... today it's got okay music and a bunch of straight girls that want in on the fun. Which is fine, but it's not cutting edge gay. read more

I came here aware i'd feel really awkward and uncomfortable but i didn't know it would be the night i would become a prude. First of all i met some friends whom i had not talked to in about 10 years. I didn't even get a chance to feel comfortable around them before i was thrown into a loud club scene. I did notice that the bar area is pretty nice and having an outside area is a must considering how freakin hot it is there. I went in June so maybe that's why i was sweating bullets. Apparently, sweaty skinny asian guys are what attracts the guys at IBT. First, i was groped, freaked, licked, and harassed by some guy that wanted to pay for me to go back with him. I guess being one of the few asians there made him think i was a gigolo. Did i mention i was licked? Because i was really disgusted by that. At this point i decided not to even drink. My friends thought i was stuck up. One of their friends also thought i was cute. Luckily, he was nice. However, i had no interest and i wanted to get out of this really uncomfortable situation. I was also still randomly groped by the crazy "i'll pay for your sex" guy. I looked like i was an asshole and i was like an old lady who was appalled by all that was going around me. Other than that, drinks are cheap, guys are kinda cute, and it was quite spacious. Monster limos? Uh, ok. Anyway, visited here on a Saturday night at 9:30 and the place was busy but not overly crowded. Very non-descript on the outside and sorta on the outskirts of the 4th Street district. Walk in to a friendly, narrow, long bar where we were heartily greeted. Proceeded to the outdoor back bar to order our beverages and watch the drunk straight couple get their freak on. Came back inside and walked over to what is probably dance floor #2 - just in the middle of a drag show. The performers were actually pretty talented (its been a long time since I saw a drag show where the performers were actually talented). Only bad part - the show ended at 10:00 - way too early in my opinion since as the show ended the dance floor sat empty for the next hour. We left at 11. This bar is cool in that there is a mingling of all types here - straight, gay, lesbian, probably some bi or unsures too. Everyone seemed to get along. I'd go back again. This place is alright, just that. The Dance areas are very cramped, be ready to stand all night. Not that standing is difficult just annoying when its your only option. The Bartendress' are Princess' in the worst way, no creativity in their cocktails, if they are given an opportunity to serve you anything, they will bypass serving a 20dollar drink and just ignore you. Then bitch if they see you later. Its a lot like December, Cold, Good for the Holidays, Good for Costumes and you see "Family" that you rather wouldn't. Its been a couple years since i've been here and don't get me wrong on 4th avenue In Tucson ..This I guess is the gay place to be..and ITS packed with all the trannies ,house / techno and dudes buying you drinks you could ever want on a Saturday night.... It will be a couple a years before I go back either.. MAJOR FAIL .. credit card got "lost" by the bar tender.. This is a happening and cool bar. Many a time I have gone here with friends and co-workers while bar hopping on 4th and it seems like each time I go here, the drink prices are the best on 4th. A mixed drink is cheaper than anywhere else and it is usually pretty good. The bartenders are nice and remember you. I like the outdoor patio most of all, because it is less claustrophobic than the darkened inside (although catching a drag show inside can be entertaining!) There is lots of seating outside and a disco ball of sorts. Bouncers usually guard the front and back entrances. Ask about specials, or just enjoy good drink pices. The bathroom is usually a weird experience for me, and it's not the most private (the sink is behind the toilet). Not a huge selection of beer on tap. But it's a nice place to hang, have a smoke and chat with friends and listen to music/karaoke when it's on or see one of the shows. I've never paid a cover to come in. This place gets PACKED. I love to come here on drag nights, it's always a great night out. They make pretty good drinks and I LOVE the outside lounge area and smoking patio, it is super comfortable. They have a room for dancing so expect it to be loud. The only downside to this place is that they need a larger restroom because the line does get really long. read more

Sunday afternoon karaoke at IBT's is the best karaoke in town. Order a mimosa at the bar grab a burger on the patio and settle in. There's a large selection of songs to choose from and the clientle is diverse and entertaining. Just don't forget to hit the atm first because they don't accept credit cards. read more

So, back in the late '90s, we would go to Tucson from Northwest Ohio every winter. IBTs was a staple of that annual trip. So, I have a fondness for the joint because of that. Having partied at some of the greatest bars in Detroit, where the music was cutting edge, Tucson was a few years behind the music scene but handled itself well in light of this. The bar was an eclectic mix of college, post-college and older patrons all of whom were looking for the elusive cock and it was the best of times. However, the last time I went, on a Sunday morning, we were the only people there. I guess I'd gotten used to Phx bars where going to the bar on a Sunday early afternoon was as normal as closing the bar out the night before. Not that I can still do that. Overall, IBTs is a solid 3 * and will forever hold a special place in my heart as my gateway bar to Arizona. read more

I relocated to Tucson from Phoenix the beginning of Nov. 2009...I have to admit that I really dig this little hole in the wall...went in for the first time on a Sunday afternoon to find a BBQ and karaoke going down...not to mention $2.00 well & domestic bottles, as well as $1.00 pints of domestic.... The bartender James was friendly, attentive and has a great smile!!...the back patio and bar area are nice as well...this place really kicks into overdrive on Friday and Saturday nights... There are people of all ages, it does get a little bumpy on the patio area after 10:00 PM, so just be prepared...I think this place is a blast and I have already met some cool peeps...give it a whirl... read more

As good a gay bar as you'll find in a town like Tucson, Arizona. I've only visited here on a Monday and Tuesday night so I can't comment as to what it's like on the weekend. The drinks were cheap and the bar is a decent size complete with an outdoor patio. They played gay/top 40 music and you can play erotic photo hunt for 25 cents so how can you go wrong?! -_-_-_-IBT's FOOD REVIEW-_-_-_- Tried their new kitchen menu on Wednesday of opening week, and we were pleasantly surprised. All the proteins are seasoned or marinated well. Tacos on corn tortillas are street style (3 for ~ $8) and a variety is available including carne asada & chicken. Shrimp is fresh and well seasoned also. Fries are thin cut and well fried, crisp and light. They use good ketchup, Heinz good. Until the Kitchen's dining room is complete, they set up high-tops in the main bar area and serve food in paper takeout boxes. I hear once the renovation of the dining room is complete, there will be tables and dinnerware along with a decidedly more "restaurant" vibe available to those who do not want to eat at the bar. I'll start this out by saying that I've never been disappointed with IBT's at all. Unlike one of the bars I went to earlier in the night. I have a diverse and wide array of friends, and when 4th Ave is failing, and failing, and failing some more. We know when and where to close out the night. It is indeed IBT's. The music is always on, and on, and on. You don't have to expect the lull. It's song after song to keep you moving. The DJs on both floors know what to do, and they know if you're there to drink and dance that you'll find the time to make it to the bar. No need for them to fit in a break for you. The front floor is four those that love some "skull pounding beats", and the back, well the back is a lot of that popular stuff. There's great variety in such a small bar. I've never waited a lengthy amount of time for beverages, and for as busy as it can be they do a good job. As mentioned by Agustin O. it's not the classiest of establishments, but it does a great job of entertaining the masses. There's always a show of Queens, or something else happening. It's just all around a good and fun time. The only warning that I have is the bathrooms. They're not dangerous, but you'll wait a good while to use it if it's packed. Especially the ladies. The two experiences I have had here were vastly different - but that's a good thing. One could say that you never know what to expect - but that's a good thing. On one occasion it was a crowded Saturday night. It was standing room only - dark, crowded, loud - just the way it should be. Second coming - low key Sunday with karaoke in the back patio. Both times were a blast in very different ways. I found the staff to be fairly attentive. The drinks strong - as they should be at such an establishment. Prices were decent and they even have drag shows! No matter what, a drag show amps up the quality of a place tenfold. The bathrooms are a bit odd - I really don't know how else to describe them. But hey - at least they have facilities and they aren't disgusting. The whole place, while dark and dank, is kept up fairly well. It's not gross - it's just a bar. I know so many people here and have so many memories. I used to do shows at IBT's, even. The drinks are always reliably strong - there is a regular crowd where "everybody knows your name," if you go often enough (oh yes, I did!). Also, I recommend karaoke on weekends in the afternoon/evening. I still go when I visit. :) I don't know what the night life is like there now, because I haven't stayed there very late the last few times I've been, but I do remember that out back was getting pretty straight girl and pop music/hip-hop, while inside was less busy until near the end of the night (where the dance/electronic stuff was played). Decided to check out the gay scene in Tucson during our road trip. We chose ibts? Whatever it's called. The bar inside has awful service. If it wasn't for the barback, we would've never gotten our drinks. 2 bar tenders leaving the middle of the bar unattended. That's smart. Some eye contact or a wave to go to the ends of the bar would've been helpful. The only reason I'd give this place a star was for its music. read more

How do you get IBT's from It's About Time, the full name of this place? Pretty sure this is the bar I went to, but I was drunk and horrified by a monster truck open air stretch limo parked in the lot near the bar, so I was mainly looking for a place to hide. This limo creature had a huge tv screen in the back. It scared me. IBT's on the other hand was like a beach party in Mexico and all the homos are invited! From drag queens to college girls, this place has it all. And the staff was very helpful and polite. And I seem to recall several dance floors playing music that people were dancing to and smiling. Had a terrible experience tonight. The kareoke host Kenny was rude and ghetto. I asked him to turn a second microphone up and he acted as though I was too drunk to understand. This was less than 15 mins after he told me his job "sucks". He commenced to grab security because I told him I would launch a complaint...coincidence..? I guess because he had a drink in his hand he wasn't thinking clearly... Didn't know someone who was drinking while working got to dictate who's too drunk. Won't be coming back on the nights he host. I just went to IBT'S for my 21st birthday and loved it. The staff were all really nice, the music was great, plus our bartender was really cute and sexy too! Definitely going back here again soon!! I felt like i could be my complete 100% self here! I've been to IBT'S a couple of times; once during the day for lunch and another in the late evening. The bar is quiet during the day so the service was fine for lunch as was the food. The bar menu is from The Kitchen so it's a fairly expansive menu for a bar. I've submitted a review regarding my lunch from The Kitchen that gives greater detail. It's slightly expensive, but I found it to be a great value, ESPECIALLY if I were to have the same experience at Midnight as advertised. I was in, a little more than a week ago around 11 pm and was surprised to see as many people there as I did on a Monday night. 3 for 1 drinks and karaoke were the specials/entertainment. The bar is in 3 sections: large dance floor, main bar with seating and a patio with another bar. It's located in one of the two main university entertainment areas, so parking near your destination is a bonus. The bar had about 60-70 people, mostly where the karaoke was being done. I sat in the bar section where I could clearly hear the entertainment. Actually, I thought my ears were going to bleed because the volume was so high. I suppose if I'd had a few in me it would have been better. I smoke so I went outside for some good electronic dance music. The music from the inside clearly dominated the music outside. I watched a little video from the screens inside, did some people watching, talked to a couple of acquaintances for about an hour and left. The crowd is very mixed, very unintimidating (for heterosexuals) for a gay bar. The peeps were good-looking 20-30 somethings with a few middle aged (like me) men. I definitely did not have a bad experience. Although, it's not my "scene", a friend and I plan to check out their go-go boys pretty soon. I can definitely appreciate men hard at work. read more

This is a great place to go dancing or see a drag show! It is a fun and energetic environment, the people are friendly, and I have usually gotten fast and friendly service. Granted, on a Friday or Saturday night, you may have to be assertive to get drinks (mostly just because it's so packed) but I feel their staff is as fast as humanly possible and I've never had a problem. Great outdoor dancing area, but the dance floor is adjacent to the smoking area, so if you're sensitive to cigarette smoke, it might not be the place for you. Drag shows are super fun and engaging, though the performers do get up in your space a bit (which is part of the experience for many). Reasonably priced drinks and you are guaranteed to have some memorable moments here. read more

It was News Year's Eve and we were trying to get our drinks before the countdown. Bartender was too busy flirting with someone behind me. This other person he was flirting with leaned over to give him a "New Year's Kiss" in the middle of our transaction and to make matters worse, spilled my partner's drink. Bartender was rude and said would not replace it for us although he still had our credit card on hand. He was the rudest bartender ever. I never encountered such a disrespectful bartender. DO NOT GO HERE. My girlfriend and I visited this establishment and it was terrible. The bartender is a little prissy queen with the worst attitude. He has his favorites and blatantly ignored us for more than 20 minutes with literally no one standing at the bar besides us. On top of all this, the piece of shit ATM was broken and when my girlfriend tried to let them know they were rude and not helpful. A week later my girlfriend was charged 20 DOLLARS from their establishment for the ATM that never produced her money. When she called back and spoke with the owner he promised that if the charge wasn't reversed within the next few days she could come into the bar and get 20 back in cash. Well here we are a week later and still no cash back. My girlfriend and I head back to the bar and we are approached again by the not so friendly bartender. This time the owner comes out and makes a huge scene and decides to storm off mid conversation refusing to help us. Extremely disappointed with the lack of service in this place, although 20 bucks doesn't seem like a lot of money its about customer service and being gracious. I've been coming here for years, and IBT's never fails to disappoint the liberal-minded among us who prefer their swagger with a little flourish. I come here to dance and enjoy the world-class drag show Friday eves, and have not been disappointed. I usually arrive with a fairly large, gregarious straight crew, and we are always treated respectfully and served promptly. No one, male of female, gay or straight, is ever short a dance partner. The dragsters are an eclectic mix of old and young, flambuoyant and mock demure. Jenna May should have her own Vegas act. Entering through the back door is advisable here (ahem, I mean the patio entrance because one can usually find a parking space before 10pm). I nipped a star only because the single-server restroom causes a twitchy, foot-tapping backup on busy nights. The security crew is professional, vigilant, and thorough, and the bartenders, who have taken a few media blows for short-shotting of late, are all friendly and generous, in my experience. Usually like this bar but have recently noticed a few things. Make sure you pay cash, they have a habit of charging more to your tab than you order when it gets busy, especially if your a girl. Don't trust the specials, they'll advertise something that doesn't start until later in the evening. Also if you want a well drink, make sure to specify otherwise they'll serve you a more expensive brand. Drag shows and music are still great just be advised. read more

Drinks are better (I think I just had a bad bartender the first few nights I went) and I'm atually finding them to be stronger than at other bars. The bathroom has been upgraded, so woohoo! Still has a great vibe and great music. Definitely a go-to on a night out. read more
