i dont know how i missed this place! visited based off a recommendation from my friend and boy was I thankful! Wide variety of portuguese / italian food. Portions were huge, friendly staff, small but comfortable atmosphere. menu was great for everyone from pasta lovers, meat lovers,seafood lovers and just your typical sandwich lovers. they have large booths which can easily sit up to 6 people, they also have a decent sized bar. Red/White Pitchers of Sangria $25 this ended up being 8 glasses. 2 stuffed quahogs $3.50 each which isnt bad. they were loaded with clams. each bite you had a taste of seafood..unlike many other local seafood restaurants. they also served hot butter with this to top the stuffy. the only down side to the stuffy was it was a bit wet on the inside,i like a dryer stuffing. i brought it home and popped it into the oven for a few minutes and it came out perfect. fried calamari was fresh and delicious! served both with marinara and a garlic butter sauce. topped with spicy and sweet banana peppers. i love calamari..its my go to app when available and this was in my top 5. again large portion id say 3-4 people could share. next we had the seafood paella..enough to share with 3 people. this was a special for $23.99 which wasnt bad considering the portion size. it came with 2 large scallops, 2 jumbo shrimp, 6 mussels, 4 little neck clams, and half of 1lb lobster. the rice was covered in their mozambique sauce which was delicious. the one slight negative would be that the mozambique sauce was a little greasy/ heavy. i make this sauce at home and have been to many portuguese restaurants and its normally a lighter more liquidy sauce vs a greasy sauce. still the flavor was very good. they served dinner rolls to start with a side of the mozambique sauce which again was tasty and a nice change to the normal butter pairing. overall a great dinner out! will be returning. read more

Wow, wow and wow. What a find this was. Great waitress, good service. Fabulous food. Interior is like an old supper club with an extensive wood bar and comfy booths. We had calamari, delicious. I had the Paella, my husband had the Chicken iAlive (the size of this meal was so large he ate only a third there and then had two leftovers of it afterward). The food was simply delicious. Have been here 2 or 3 times and the food has always been delicious and the staff friendly . Was in again this weekend and was not happy with the amount of staff with their masks either below their nose or chin. This includes the man I presume to me the owner/manager sitting right by the front door . Our waitress always had her mask on and did a great job . There seemed to be a lot of people in the restaurant and the amount of staff standing around the bar with their masks half on was very uncomfortable. The food is excellent and I hope they can do a better job protecting their customers . It's tough times an I am aware that everyone is still learning but wouldn't feel comfortable going back any time soon . read more

My family went at three on a Sunday. Seated immediately at that time but there was a wait when we left. Food and service were both excellent! For appetizers we had shrimp Mozambique, steamers and kale soup. All were sizable and delicious. Our entrees were pork alentejana and fried clams. Once again the portions were large. The clams were clean and sweet, and the pork was fall apart tender. We finished up with flan and carrot cake. Cake was good, flan was delectable. We live up the street from iAlive and always noticed a large crowd. A friend then told us we had to go! We were so impressed! The food was amazing, large portions and then menu has something for everyone. They also have good options for kids but you have to ask (its not on the menu). Make reservations because they get very busy! read more

Let me preface by saying that I never leave reviews for restaurants, good bad or indifferent. So, I obviously had an experience that needed to be shared. So now, Let me start by saying I have been here (and I'm being serious) at least 10 times. I thought this place was amazing the first time I came here. I came here a couple times after and loved it as well. Fast forward maybe 6-8 months... horrible! The food tastes like it is straight from a broken deep freezer. The bartender is completely uninterested in our coming to her bar. We sat down, and it took longer than normal for her to come even say hi. We just told her we were going to order drinks and place a to go order. Her already grumpy demeanor turned more grumpy. While we were waiting for her to take our drink order, I noticed that she was in a deep conversation with a guy sitting next to my boyfriend. The conversations that were being had were also not things you should be talking about while there are customers at your bar. As a person that has worked in the restaurant industry, when someone stares at you they generally want to order. Well, I guess she never got that memo... I made eye contact with her multiple times, and she would just look away as if me being at her bar was a complete burden. Finally, I just yell out we are ready... She then, with no personality whatsoever comes to take our drink order. Mind I tell you, this entire time she never even gave us menus to look at. After she takes our drink order, I ask for menus and finally get them. We order our food and end up having two drinks each because it took FOREVER to get us our to-go order. We get home and are excited to eat. The food, the food was horrible! My boyfriend got a seafood dish with scallops and shrimp and other things in it. Just look at the attached photos... that is supposed to be a scallop and a shrimp..... It had to be from a frozen bag, it looked and tasted like trash! All the seafood was dried out and gross! My food was no better. I have honestly recommended this place (as well as my boyfriend) on numerous occasions. I now feel like an idiot for ever telling anyone to go here! The service was freaking awful! If you are going to be that miserable as a bartender, then change jobs! As for the food, it has literally gone so downhill! The only edible thing on the menu is the bread and dipping sauce. Even though it is not the same cuisine, if you want GOOD food and GOOD service, go to La Familia! This place is junk now. We will never go here again, and we will be telling everyone how horrible the service and food are now. I am probably missing so many things that I want to say, but I believe you get the point. Went in on a Sunday night hoping that me and my boyfriend could get something to eat that we both would like (he likes plain classics and I like more Portuguese food ) he ordered the cheeseburger club , asked for it PLAIN waitress Lori then said so no lettuce or tomatoes ? to which he said yes because to his knowledge that is the only thing that comes with it. When it came out there was bacon and Mayo also on the club which was not stated in Lori previous statement. I order the bife a Portuguesa and ask for it medium rare ( any thing else it to much for me to chew ) the first time it came out it was medium well or just well done. I then asked Lori if she could fix this and she said well it's not that bad but I'll bring it to them. So a new steak came out as by god it was even worse than the first. I really wish I had let the first one be. The second steak came out raw. My boyfriend said he could even see it from the outside of the steak. Lori saw it and said oh no that so gross I'll have them make you a new one. Before I could even tell her that I didn't want a new one and to just take it off the bill she had already taken off to the kitchen . So when she came back I told her and she said and I quote well they are already making you a new one so I can't do anything about it now. So the "new " steak came and wouldn't you know they were not making me a new steak they were in fact just cooking the raw steak and they still managed to make it rare. At this point I had given up to and wasn't even hungry anymore. The picture is what my final steak looked like and it safe to say I will not be going back ever!!! Been going there for 2-3 years and find the food very good to excellent with large portions. The waitresses are all friendly and efficient. However, the bar abuts to the eating area so it tends to be noisy. The Owner is the greeter and does not act at all friendly and at times can be nasty. He spoils the entire dinner with his attitude. So this is the owner of the old Joseph's that was in East Providence. And he also owned Demarco in Smithfield. Same menu pretty much. Lots of seafood dishes on the menu. And has a Portuguese dipping sauce for your bread that he is known for, it's pretty good. The food just ok. I ordered cheese burger club. Pretty safe choice, but they didn't really toast the bread. We went to iAlive in Rehoboth, MA Saturday, November 9th. We found the hostess to be very rude. She was getting very annoyed because we weren't finishing up fast enough. She and our waitress kept whispering about us. She kept showing her facial expressions which i could clearly see. She kept telling some regular guests how sorry she was to them because we were tying up a table. One person had never been there before and was trying it for the first time. After seeing and hearing how rude she was our guest will not go back. You should treat all your guests the same way and not favor your regulars. This is a type of restaurant would rather rush you rather then letting you sit back and relax and enjoy the experience. Rude customer service! read more

I've followed the owner of this place since he owned a restaurant in Smithfield called Fiale. The food here is super similar and just as fantastic. It's family owned and the food is made with love. Their sauce for the bread is amazing and you're treated like family from the moment you walk in the door. Great vibe, the red sangria is one that my family has tried to duplicate for years and still can't seem to get just right... it's that good. Definately recomment the place time and time again. Had a nice meal last night at I Alive until the waitress told us that she needed our table because "after all it is Friday night and we are really busy!" I wish the host told us about the time limit on our table when we made reservations. We didn't hear the waitress tell the group of six next to us that she needed their table even though they were there before us. She got her tip and we left as requested. 2nd visit in two weeks. Have reservations for New Years Eve. Best food & service we've experienced in a long time. Had Sue as our server both times & she's a ROCK STAR. Friendly & efficient. We've tried A LOT off the menu in 2 visits. Little necks, muscles , shrimp , baked stuffed lobster, steaks, prime rib, baked stuffed swordfish & desserts. All were excellent. Great cocktails as well. The booths are high backed & private. You can't see your neighbors. Nice decor. Reservations recommended. 7/6/19 several visits later. . . Stopped in for the Clam Boil special. It was 90* outside and at our booth it was only slightly better. Didn't feel the a/c kick in till a good hour later. Our server was awesome. We had her once before. We've had two amazing servers and one obnoxious one who we avoid now. We'll sit at the bar before we sit in her section. We started with Calamari and little necks. The calamari here is the best we've had anywhere. The little necks were really good once again. Maybe a hair over cooked but no grit. We had steamers with clam boil and they were good also. The clam boil also included 11/2 lb lobster, corn in the cob, white potato, sweet potato, hotdog, Italian sausage, chorizo and an onion. Lobster was amazing. Cooked perfectly. It's the star so that's what we really cared about. The Italian sausage was good. I don't care for chorizo. The boiled hotdog, pale and unappetizing. Potato's not seasoned and bland. Desserts were cheese cake and Portuguese pudding. Cheese cake was plain NY with strawberries. The strawberries and whip cream made a boring cheese cake very tasty. The Portuguese pudding was extremely thick and reminded us of raw cookie dough. We weren't fans. Overall the food here continues to be consistently great here. Our biggest negative would have to be our finished dishes left on our table for 20-30 mins after we had finished eating. Our server who had other tables and was definitely busy, gets a pass. The owner does not. We were seated near the entrance and he was playing host when he was around. When he wasn't, it became another responsibility for our server. More than once he looked right at our table and made the decision to leave our plates for our server to move. At one point he even sat at the bar to chat with a friend. This is unacceptable , lazy behavior and the complete opposite of good customer service. This would never happen at our favorite restaurant which is also Italian/Portuguese. Customer service is a priority and EVERY employee in the restaurant pitches in whenever needed. The servers grab empty plates off ALL tables, as do management. It's a team effort. Management also stops by our table to get feedback. Here . . . Fail. Thank god for the food. read more

Went there for lunch with my family. My wife said she had the best fish and chips she ever had. The food was extremely fresh and everything we had was very good. We were unsure of what we wanted to eat, after a long morning swim meet for kids, and we picked this restaurant randomly and were very glad we did. The waitress was super friendly and the restaurant was clean and nice inside as well. The chocolate pudding dessert (has a special name to it) was unbelievable. First time at this restaurant and I have to say I am so disappointed. The Manager did not wear a mask the entire time we were there walking all over the restaurant. I also noticed a large number of customers walking around the restaurant to go to the bathroom etc. without masks on - the waitstaff did try to say something, but it was no use. The waitstaff did all have their mask on when serving. The food was just okay - the shrimp was tough and the clams had small bellies. My parents have been to this place a few times before with a positive experiences - no clues what was going on tonight... totally a disregard for others safety during this challenging time. Sucks this was one of my first times out in a long time. Don't want to embarrass anyone but have pictures to prove social distancing was not happening here. Went there recently and the place was packed. Had to see if it was the real deal. Appetizers were good, and the paella entree was very good. The problem, however, was the Portuguese steak was awful! Full of gristle, and there were jalapeño peppers on it. Portuguese steak doesn't call for jalapeños! For Portuguese food, so many better options out there. Overall just ok. Even though we've only been here twice we cannot wait to go again. My fiancé has ordered the Seafood Scampi both times and absolutely loves it. I ordered the caçouhla sandwich on our first visit and it was delish. The second time we came I got the Caesar Salad with steak. Hands down the best Caesar salad I've ever had! I had lunch here the other day, and wanted to say how great it was. I ordered the steak sandwich with mushrooms. The meal was plentiful, and I took some home with me, though I could have chowed it down in one LARGE meal! The French fries were nice and crispy, the way I like them, and the steak and mushrooms were terrific. It was a bit pricey for a lunch, but restaurants have had a hard time during Covid, and I can understand that I should expect to pay more until things get back to normal. We ordered takeout for dinner and were surprised at just how good everything was. We just ordered simple stuff: calamari, stuffies, chicken tenders. Everything was obviously homemade, portions were large. The chicken tenders were just slices of chicken breast pounded thin and fried, they were great. Buffalo sauce was very good as well.
