The service and ambience were good but the food needs serious improvement. The best thing we ordered were the stuffed mushrooms. They were delicious! My sister had the roasted chicken, which she said was moist, but flavorless. The baked potato and corn on the cob that came with it were dry & overdone. My nephew ordered the baked scrod which he said was bland and needed salt. I ordered the Fishermans platter, which came with a flavorless clam sauce over spaghetti. The scallops and lobster were juicy and well cooked. The shrimp and little necks were overcooked and rubbery. Definitely not worth the money! Very disappointing!!! We had tried this restaurant before and figured we would give it another chance. We will not be returning. read more

We've been here a few times now and each time the food has been great. Lobster dinners are a delicious value. Prime rib is tasty and tender. Everything we've had has been very good. Craving Portuguese & our usual place was closed for a private function. Had heard great things from people about this place, so hubby & I gave it a shot. First off, they brought us bread with delicious sauce to dip it in. It was amazing & oh, so familiar. Lo & behold, it was the same sauce that we used to get at Faial in Smithfield. It's the same owner...nice! I really hope they bottle & sell it like they did at Faial. We ordered the Portuguese calamari; it was really tasty! Had kale soup too; it was good, but I thought I was getting calde verde...I asked the waitress if that's what it was & she said yes, but it wasn't. Hubby got the house steak; wasn't spectacular, but "alright" as he put it. I had the paella; now, THAT, Was fantastic! Also had a glass of red sangria...was tasty. We had a VERY long wait; about 20 minutes longer than they quoted. No one really spoke to us in the waiting area, but the staff was very attentive & friendly once seated. Based on the reviews it had received, my girlfriend and I decided to give iAlive a try. They were pretty busy especially considering it was 2pm but we were seated within 5 minutes. They start you with small, warm rolls and a Mozambique sauce to dip it in. I would have been ok with about a dozen rolls and a pint of the sauce. It was very good. I had to control myself as I also had a stuffie, some calamari, the house steak dish and the Faial pudding (the last two partially came home and were enough for dinner). The stuffie was ok/good in of itself but was made much better by the accompanying oil with garlic. The calamari came with peppers and marinara sauce which were ok but I had some of that oil and garlic left and used that which kicked the calamari up a notch. The steak came with two fried eggs on top, some thin sliced potatoes and seafood rice. The steak was a nice portion and perfectly cooked which seems to be a rarity these days. The potatoes were slightly crispy and the rice was, to me, ok. The Faial pudding sounded interesting from the waitresses description and was delicious. It was a mix of graham cracker and chocolate pudding and not sure what else but it was very rich, thick and I would definitely get it again. Lastly, the service was very good. Our waitress was attentive and personable. Our glasses were never empty and she definitely contributed to a positive visit. For me, I'd say 4.5 might be closer to accurate. If the calamari, stuffie and rice were a little better, they'd be 5 star contenders. I look forward to trying some of their other dishes. read more

I've visited iAlive 4 times in the last two years. The turkey dinner is what my GF goes for, and I've tried Chicken and Seafood dishes which we both enjoyed. Food tastes good. Sangria is great. BUT....every time we've been there, there are flies buzzing around. I get that it happens, but seems it's an ongoing issue with how long I've been going. read more

My daughter loves Portuguese food. She had heard this was one of the better Portuguese restaurants in our area. The night we were there the restaurant was packed. We were seated very quickly and promptly brought water, bread and their spect sauce. The sauce is delicious. We decided to order studies, marinated pork and the lobster special. I've never left iAlive disappointment for hungry. The food here is absolutely amazing and delicious. Some weeks we like to come and dine in and others where one of us is tired and just want to eat back at the house, we will do take out. Dining in I always try something different. I have tried most of what's to offer on the menu and it has always been a delight. The food comes in a very reasonable time, the staff here have always been beyond friendly! If we do take out, I always get the Bife a Portuguesa and my girlfriend gets the shrimp Mozambique. Portions are large! I can't stress that enough. The steak is always cooked to perfection, love the egg on top. The order has to come in two containers because they give you so much food. We usually start off with the stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer, one of my favorites. For our entrees, it usually depends on what we're craving, sometimes seafood, sometimes steak. They served generous portions, so we always had something to take home with us. For dessert, we always get our usual flan. I would suggest making reservations because they're usually busy. The menu is large, with a mix of Portuguese, Italian and American food. The spicy sauce they bring out to you with the rolls is fantastic. I wish I would have kept the rest on the table to have with my meal. We ordered the Portuguese sliders as an appetizer. Nothing too fancy here. It was just the rolls they serve with a few slices of chourico on it. No sauce, etc. I added some of the sauce from the bread and it did improve them a bit. I ordered the Chicken Alentejana and my husband had the Grilled Tuna Boat. The portions are enormous! I enjoyed my meal, but would have liked a bit more sauce with it. When you order a "Boat" you get a lot of options for sides. My husband went with the Seafood rice and the Scampi garlic butter sauce. He loves garlic and this was almost too much garlic for him. Boats also come with four littlenecks, one scallop and one shrimp. We enjoyed it. We don't go out for Portuguese food often, but it's not a bad option, especially for the area. Had takeout from here a bunch of times and was always great but holy cow getting it fresh dining in! Started with some fantastic Portuguese wine, Monte velho, and stuffie. Came with some crazy good garlic butter sauce. I licked the shell it was so good. They serve rolls with a dipping sauce you were my get anywhere else (I dipped my fries in it too!). For entrees we got a seafood pasta and Portuguese steak plate. My wife loved the seafood and my steak was perfect, came with Portuguese round fries and a seafood rice with scallops (not a traditional Portuguese steak but that rice was incredible). So for an appetizer I got a side salad. It was basically just a garden salad and I got Italian dressing with it. Good, pretty fresh nothing crazy. For my entree I got the grilled salmon which comes with a starch and a vegetable so I chose a baked potato and asparagus. The salmon was a pretty good size, had some good flavor but nothing too overpowering which was nice. The asparagus was also seasoned well and had a great bite too it. The baked potato was also cooked well and came with butter and then my server asked if I wanted some sour cream - which I said yes. I have been here many times. It is usually packed if we arrive near the lunch or dinner hour, so we timed it for 3:00pm. The place was not very crowded when we arrived and we proceeded to the bar. They have a fair beer selection and they make an excellent Sangria. They have a full bar and have daily drink and food specials. My wife had an Expresso Martini and loved it. I had a couple of different IPA's. They have a large menu and I have never gotten anything that was not absolutely delicious. The portions are huge and their prices are reasonable so there is no question about why they are usually busy. I have had both the Salmon and Swordfish offerings and the portions are the largest I have ever seen. The service is very good. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Even the patrons were very friendly. There is a private parking lot, however at prime times it is packed. The restaurant, bar and restrooms are all very clean. Service here was really good, but the food just wasn't. I ordered the Portuguese steak plate and asked for it medium well and it came out like it was well done, the round fries and rice were super salty and honestly that was one of the few times not finishing the fries. I am willing to come back again because maybe it could've been an off night for the cook, but clearly if it were to happen again then that would be my last time coming here. I would honestly give it 2.5 stars if I could I'll round it to 3 since the service was good it didn't make the food not being so good a big thing. read more

TRied iAlive for the first time - it was excellent. And have gone back numerous times since. If you are familiar with Portuguese food (and it appears some people form SC are not) this was excellent. You could spend an evening eating the Faial sauce that acompanies the opening bread. We had the Paellha (perfectly cooked seafood) and the Carne De Porco (traditional Portuguese dish - excellent sauce and tender pork). Also have had definitely great "boat" dishes, shrimp mozambique and seafood platter. They say their chicken is the speciality, but honestly I haven't even thought about trying it beacuse the other dishes are so great. Someday tho - Oh, and great drinks.
