Typical fried seafood/fires clams type of place. I don't eat clams but allegedly they were pretty good. We ordered hot dogs, which were fine. Fortunately, they came with plenty of fries but only one hot dog with a "plate" for dinner. Easily could've eaten another hot dog and don't understand there's only be one. The clam plate came with a ton of food as did the chicken tenders. Biggest gripe was that no one was ahead of us but it took about 30 Minutes to get our food and the staff looked like they'd were just hanging out. Just had lunch at Dicky's . First time in over a year. Was concerned about portion size after reading a few reviews. Well that is NOT an issue. I had the large clam plate and my wife the scallop plate. While certainly expensive $80 for 2 lunches, the portions were more than satisfactory. I really should have ordered the small clam. I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a few years now. I'm so happy I finally did! I ordered the clam fritters and lobster roll. The clam fritters did not impress me, they were good but I thought they had too much batter and not enough clam taste. I also did not see any clams in the clam fritters and normally you can see little pieces which I like the best. The lobster roll was delicious. The bun was buttered and grilled perfect, for that nice crunch. The lobster meat was fresh and they gave you a good amount. There was no mayo on the roll, just the lobster meat and buttered bun. I love lobster rolls like this, that just have the lobster meat, especially when the lobster meat is fresh and tastes good. I wish the roll was bigger, but that was as my only suggestion. I would get the lobster roll again if I went back to this restaurant. The whole menu looked delicious, with clam chowder, fried clams and platter dinners. This was my first time back in a couple of years. I was pleased to see that the size of the crab cakes grew! They taste pretty good. The service was slow even though we were the only people there! I've noticed this place for years and finally decided to stop in. A very pretty view and funky. Yes prices are steep and a bit slow considering it was the middle of the afternoon. We ordered the seafood platter, all fresh and plenty for two people, the cole slaw was a throw away. It was bland, which is too bad because you need a tangy slaw to balance the fried food. No ketchup for the fries which was buzzard. I tried to clam boil soup, a lot of hot dogs and potatoes, NO clams, a hard pass. I will try the chowder but have lowered my expectations. read more

I'm coming from star drive inn so this review is going to be basically a comparison. Their fries are better than star drive in but who goes to a clam shop for their fries? The clam strips, the fried oysters were good. Not great? But definitely not bad. Fish could be crispier. I think the fish is better at star drive in but the clam strips were on the same level but fried oysters are better at star drive inn. Stuffed quahogs. I ordered the spicy. Definitely not spicy enough for my taste. Secondly, it was just a mushy quahog. Nothing, to this day of August 1, 2021, can beat star drive in. I had to drench my quahog in butter to get a "yummmm" effect. Lobster roll was a little dry. Is that possible? I don't eat lobster that often to really know if that's possible. Worth the 20 dollars per roll? No. I'd pay maybe 12 dollars but even that's pushing it. That's me being bias since I'm not a huge fan of lobster rolls. I prefer just lobster and some asian hot sauce. Spent all of my tip money from my part time job so I gave them a WAD of cash. Was it worth it? Maybe for half of what I paid. I only compare this to star drive in only because that's where I normally get my fried seafood and stuffed quahog fix. It's good? Dicky's is the prototype for your roadside summertime lobster roll, clam shack and homemade ice cream stand that you'd expect to find near the beach but is actually located on a main road. There is your "place order" line, pick up windows organized by food type, white pebbles parking lot and picnic style seating. The servers were all cordial and friendly while keeping the lines moving. I thought the white clam chowder while tasty was a bit bland but full of clams which at other restaurants is not always the case. It came with oyster crackers which were not the best brand. My lobster roll was full of good size pieces of cold lobster with a touch of mayo on the traditional grilled hotdog bun. I've had sweeter tasting lobster but it was still worth the price. I did not try the ice cream so that will have to be on hold until my next time through. read more

Wow! I was hoping it would be better! I saw the prices line $36 for a clam plate and $2.49 for a water. Is it me? I got a cup of chowder and a small fish and chips for $20. The white chowder was flavorless. Not creamy or clammy. The cole slaw was also undressed and going in the trash. Hate to say it but fish was also flavorless and soggy. Falling apart. The hair fried into the batter wasnt very nice either. There's a pic. French fries were the best part. I'm eating them plain, because there's no ketchup in the bag. Oh well. I've been here twice and ordered out from them twice as well. The service is friendly, I like the view of the Palmer river, food is ready in a timely matter, and the food is good! Clam cakes - cooked well but I will say there isn't THAT much clam in it. I personally don't like a lot of clams in my clam cakes so this works out for me but I could see it being a problem for others. Fish & chips platter - I like the portion of the regular sized platter. I can't even imagine how big the portion of the large would be. The batter on the fish is good and the fish is always cooked perfectly. The fries are also good. It comes with cole slaw and tartar sauce which again, is also good. Dulce de Leche ice cream - really good! Super creamy and has great flavor. Overall I enjoy the food from here and my experience that I have. One thing I will say is that I wish they would wipe down the tables under the tent. I find those to be kinda dirty. Other than that I do recommend this place. I haven't tried too much from here but from what I have tried - it's pretty good and I like not having to travel too far for a clam shack when I want clam cakes and fish & chips. read more

If you're looking for fried seafood at a clam shack with a beautiful water view... But don't have time to drive to the shore, this place is just for you! As is the tradition at such places, you order at one window, after perusing a big wooden menu on the wall, and pick up your food at another window when they call out the number printed on your receipt. Old school, nostalgic and very New England. There are several options for dining: Inside, outside or you can take your food to go - that would be a shame, given the grounds. There is some indoor seating in front of the order and pick up windows, near the street. There is also a large, permanent tent filled with sturdy, clean picnic tables. But the best spot, by far, are the rainbow of Adirondack chairs arranged in a semi circle at the edge of the water (Palmer River). I am not generally a fan of lap eating, finding the challenge of balancing the plate diminishes my dining pleasure. But these chairs have one arm that is extra wide, with a little ridge to keep your tray from sliding onto the ground. The crushed seashells beneath your feet make you forget that you're only minutes from the city and on your lunch hour. There was even a small crab scooting across the ground and a Great Blue Heron gliding across the water. Now, for the food: My colleague and I disagree on the subject of fried clams. She ordered the clam strip plate (Blasphemy!) while I had the whole bellied version. Her portion was considerable larger, being only part of the clam (not the best part!) and actually looked really good. Mine were tender, not too greasy and very tasty. There were served with fries (very good), coleslaw (boring) and, of course, tartar sauce (just right). First visit here after reading reviews and having ate at pretty much every other clam shack/restaurant for fifty miles. Prices are steep everywhere now so you have to really want it and I did. The owner waited on me as I ordered a seafood platter w/whole belly clams, sea scallops, fried oysters and fries; Also a lobster plate with onion rings. After placing my order the owner expressed his sincere appreciation for my business which is seldom heard and always appreciated. That was nice to hear but the food was the star. Everything was amazing; and I mean everything. Lobster roll with drawn butter only was cooked perfectly; large pierces, sweet and delicious. The onion rings which I've had a lot of bad ones were the best I've had anywhere. Small and crisp without falling apart with onion hanging out; perfect. The clams & oysters were equally outstanding; property cleaned and perfectly cooked as were the large scallops; and the fries which once again, I don't get my hopes up, were excellent; thin, hot, crisp & delicious. I've stopped here a few times in the past couple of years. They were closed for almost a year at one point i think because of a fire. It's a great little setting by a marsh pond between Seekonk and Swansea. The food is just okay. I'm always left a little disappointed. Whole belly clam portions are not that generous.. and in my opinion the batter they use doesn't get crispy enough.. The fish and chips are good... again, the batter is rather blah. I want crispy when I eat fried food delights! Lastly, tonite I tried clamcakes and red chowder. Clamcakes were tasty ... not sure if there were any clams in them... i only saw one as I ate a small order of 3. The chowder was thick and had a good amount of clams.. but it was cold right out of the bag 3 minutes after they handed it to me. This place has potential to be awesome,.. but I hope they start paying more attention to the quality. read more

This is really a "Meh, I've experienced better", but two stars seems a bit harsh. After running a successful food truck in the New Bedford area, Dicky's bought the former Palmer River Clam Shack and opened a few months ago. My husband was working from home and I was driving down route 6 looking for something to pick up for lunch and after hitting some very long lines at other places, pulled into the Dicky's parking lot on a whim. The set up is the same as the Palmer River clam shack, with some covered seating as well as picnic tables closer to the water. Everyone that helped me was very friendly and the food was ready in a reasonable amount of time. We enjoyed the fried clams. They were a bit soggy, but it was a take out order, so after being closed in a styrofoam container, it was to be expected. The clam cakes had a very good flavor, but not a lot of clams. The chowder was a bit on the bland side for me and definitely needed more stock. It was definitely a "meh" for both of us. I know other people that have gone and liked it though, so it may be worth a try for some people. read more

Stopped here for lunch on a Monday. Beautiful day outside and a coworker said they had good chowder. I ordered chowder and a mild quahog and said I would eat there. I sat at a table and waited about 3 minutes for my food. WOW that's was fast! Well let's just say that wasn't a good thing. I eat chowder and quahogs all summer long. They are my favorite. This was pretty blah and disappointing. The chowder was warm at best, had decent flavor but had to add salt and pepper and there was still something missing. Clams must have been diced because there were no large pieces of clam at all. The quahog was disappointing. First of all it didn't even liked cooked. It looked like some stuffed it and set it to the side to cook it..... by never did. It looked so undercooked I stuck my finger in it and it was ice cold, but the shell on the outside was burning hot. Well if you heat a quahog in the microwave this is exactly what happens. I asked the girl if it could be cooked longer because it was cold. Then I heard the buttons on the microwave bing punched in and 2 minutes later I had the quahog back. It was still cold, and pretty sure raw. I didn't eat it, I didn't bring it back or ask for my money back. I just threw it away. I will try this place again after work one night. This place looks great and has friendly staff but the food just down right sucks. Got a so called world famous Steak and cheese it was terrible no taste what so ever and was noting but a soggy hamburger bun with grease filled and fat filled steak and cheese. The fish and chips was ok was basically all batter and fries were soggy. Iv also never had chicken fingers that were burnt will never return. My wife and I decided to grab some seafood for dinner so we wanted to give Dicky's a try. We arrived and ordered our food from the outside takeout menu. Since it was our first time here we wanted to sample as much as we could. We ordered the fried clams, clam strip plate, scallop plate, shrimp plate and the calamari. Our order came out to $95.00 which seems overpriced in our opinion. Our order took about 20 minutes to arrive which we didn't have a problem with. We immediately drove home to sample our food. Our food was okay overall but there were some flaws. The breading or batter used for the fried clams, shrimp and calamari was unseasoned sadly. It was light and crunchy which was good but it lacked seasoning. The shrimp plate was good it just lacked more shrimp for the price. The French fries were good and crispy. Sadly the most disappointing experience with the food was the calamari. It was soggy and gummy. I believe it was from the banana peppers placed throughout the dish. The highlight of the meal was the scallop plate! The scallops were perfectly cooked! It was fantastic! Overall the food was average at best but the scallops were the star of the show!
