I brought my laptop in because it would no longer boot up correctly after running Norton Utilities and the automatic repair tools wouldn't work. I was told that the prognosis was pretty grimm and we could recover the data, but would have to restore the OS an reinstall all of the software, etc. They were very friendly and just trying to be honest, which I appreciate. They said they would try a few things, but weren't optimistic. Well, I'm glad I didn't listen. I did a 5 minute search on Google that led to an article that took me through (step-by-step) fixing the problem in 3 minutes. My computer was immediately back to being FULLY functional with no loss of data or programs. I guess this would be a 5 start review had someone said: those are hard errors to fix, but we can look online and research to see if there are fixes out there for this type of problem. I would have left them my computer. But would they have searched or just come to the conclusion that a wipe of the computer was the only fix? Note: I consider myself to be very computer literate and only went looking for "expert" help when I couldn't figure out a resolution. In hindsight, I now realize i could have done a google search earlier and saved myself a trip.

And his costs were 'below modest' (I have NO COMPLAINTS - though I was sad that his best efforts - even his expert referral to a DriveSavers in California - could not save precious family data and photos). He succeeded most of the time at jobs thought to be hopeless; his prices are low, his speed very fast, his courtesy heart-warming, and his thoroughness and professionalism are impressive!

To be long winded: my 1.5 year old gateway laptop decided it did not want to turn on, - after calling many repair shops I discovered many places do not even work with laptop hardware issues- iTech did! so Plus 1 for them. I took my computer here and Rich diagnosed it with a faulty motherboard. If you chose to get the work done with them, the diagnostic fee is waived which is good, and the labor/parts were fairly priced. Rich was good at staying on top of communicating with me about where my laptop stood on the repair, unfortunately I kept being told it would be done friday... then on friday... o no, maybe Monday. Then once the motherboard was fixed, it turned out the touch pad had also somehow went- In the end it took 2 months to fix! And was a lot more money than the initial estimate. To be fair- that was not their fault, there were unforeseen problems that kept delaying things, and most of the hold up was waiting on parts. Rich did discount some labor in lieu of making me wait so long. and now here I am typing on my once-again-wonderfully functioning laptop! and restored some needed data for school before the fix for free. Just a warning if you go: the Office is in a house. Its a white house, on a random side street with a red door, you have to go to the side door and press the doorbell labeled "B", which I didn't figure out until I got there.

I got my computer repaired at Micro Center. They fixed the computer without losing data on my hard drive and did a backup on another external drive. Everything went smoothly. It was clear the $160 8th gen they had in stock would meet my need and then some. The associate I spoke with tried to first sell me a 2025 iPad ($450). When I pressed it wasn't needed, the 8th gen would work fine, he pushed back that I really needed a 9th gen for $250. I insisted again that the 8th gen was more than I need, he was frustrated but generated the ticket. I ended up walking out without buying the device. I bought an 8th gen, $50 cheaper, elsewhere. If I didn't know what I needed, if I didn't feel comfortable pushing back on an aggresive salesperson, I would have walked out $300 poorer and with more device than I needed. While browsing, I witnessed someone buying a laptop but before they would give them the slip they "had to introduce them" to their sales manager who came over to try and push a different, more expensive system. I used to love the place but now it feels like a sleezy car dealership. I most likely won't be back unless there's a very specific, undeniable need to go there.
