UPDATE: I tried to work with Hydrex to correct the damage they made, and hid behind contracts and "uncertainty" to brush me off. I am filing complaints with the Better Business Bureau and 7 On Your Side. I just wish companies would accept the responsibility when they mess something up. But they never do. I'm including a copy of the email I received from them, just to put their tactics on blast. So so sad that this is how businesses behave. Oh well, on to the next. ========== Today I cancelled my bi-monthly pest service at two properties. While everyone I have ever been in contact with has been very nice, they just don't seem to have it together when it comes to their business. On several occasions, they have either showed up late, or not at all. Or, they have shown up at the wrong property on the wrong day. My most recent inside spray made a mess all over ever floor in my house, which has never happened before and required I spend time cleaning floors I just cleaned. At the end of the day, dealing with them became the pest. While they are reasonably priced, I don't see the value in their service, which is a pity. I like to use local, but in this case, it didn't work out. read more

Very poor follow thru and communication. No one seems to be overseeing the whole operation...big disconnect between office and technicians. Lots of passing the buck from office to techs and back. Unreasonable time frames to get a call back to answer questions. Major Inconsistent reports of time and cost involved in job. Contract language requires you to waive any liability for damage they may do to your home. Huh? Inspection itself was timely and competent but everything went south from there, ultimately decided I couldn't trust them with my time, money, or home and decided not to work with them on repairs needed. Hard to believe they are Diamond Certified. Would recommend going elsewhere if need more than an inspection. read more

I've been a Hydrex customer since 2000. But my recent experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Instead of working with me to share their expertise on how to solve my rodent problem, all they could do was to be rude to me and tell me what they can't do. Paula was exceptionally rude to me on the phone. And when I told owner Linda that she was about to lose this customer of over two decades, she was unmoved. Maybe they have a reason not to care? To the Hydrex technicians - great, knowledgeable, and helpful - Our first appt the technician missed an obvious entry point, but it can happen. Glad the second guy caught it. Front Office Manager? RUDE and has a IDGAF attitude that was so disappointing after their team fumbled our scheduled follow up and set it for the wrong day and time. Didn't seem like she cared to keep our business. Also - one of the few Pest companies that make you pay for inspection upfront and ($133, $65 for each weekly follow up). My advice- call in only desperate times - it's worth waiting for other Pest companies that provide complementary inspections and actually WANT your business. Also - to the Owner - reconsider some empathy training for your front office manager. Her attitude and unwillingness put the nail in the coffin for us to cut ties. read more

I've had a long term service arrangement with Hydrex of Petaluma. Since the ownership changed hands the office has completely changed to a friendly and informative style. I had a problem with my service tech several years ago. They changed techs and it's been perfect since then. I no longer have an ant problem. read more

Worst customer service & they don't stand by their work. I had a service call at my house & had two options. I asked the technician for his recommendation and went with that. Two days later they were back with a vengeance. When I called, the woman was extremely rude & told me they wouldn't come back without a charge & blamed me for going with what the tech recommended. The technician came today and I was super impressed with her knowledge and professionalism. She really knew where to track down our problem! They canceled at the last minute when I did not have time to get another company out when I could be home. Called the office for assistance- got none. I was panicked about large raccoons coming right into my kitchen through the pet door and so I left a message at Hydrex after reading good reviews on Yelp. At first I was reluctant to go with a big pest control company like Hydrex because I wanted a local small company with personalized service so I could be more sure of taking care of the raccoon problem in the most humane way possible. I left a message for Hydrex and several other local companies. Lloyd, who is part of Hydrex, called me back within a few hours on a weekend (no one else even called back) and explained his whole service to me including his sensitivity and care to animals and the parts of his service that pay extra attention to that. He is a real animal lover and really understood the problem of trying to protect my old dog from the raccoons but at the same time caring for wildlife animals which is very important to me. Lloyd was in constant communication with me for over a week until we humanly trapped the animals that were the problem. I live on the Peninsula in the Bay Area and this was no issue with Lloyd and his team at my home every day for the service they provide. I can't say enough good things about working with Lloyd and his team. The problem is solved and I feel totally taken care of and helped. If you have a raccoon problem, Lloyd and his team are the people I would turn to and recommend. read more

Terrible customer service. We scheduled an appointment for Saturday and they sent us a confirmation email and text message the Thursday prior. But then they never showed up for the appointment! Talk about frustrating! And the office wasn't open on Saturday, so no one was available to assist us when we called. If you have weekend appointments, the office should be open. Upon talking to them on Monday, they claimed we never confirmed the appointment when there was no instruction to do so. They claimed they called us Friday to confirm but we have no missed calls or messages from them. They also claimed they had the wrong number on file even though they texted us a confirmation message a few days before. Their email and text confirmations didn't say we needed to call and confirm the appointment either. And aren't those meant to confirm the appointment? Why would we need to call back and reconfirm? I wish this review was about their pest services but unfortunately it's not. And while I dislike being the person to write negative reviews, they didn't apologize for missing the appointment and insisted we were to blame. If it was a misunderstanding, they didn't say that either. Just a poor experience all around. read more

Very impressed! We were having a terrible ant problem in our new house and I called Hydrex after seeing a great promotion on Yelp. I called on a Saturday, expecting to get an answering machine and was pleasantly surprised to get an actual person. Lloyd was extremely courteous and helpful and offered to come out the next day to help take care of our ant problem! A Sunday! Lloyd came out in a timely manner on Sunday afternoon and sprayed the house while I left with my family and dog. He said that Hydrex would come back out for a follow up appointment in 30 days, which they did almost to the day! We now have them coming out every two months, but are free to tell them to stop whenever we choose. So refreshing not to be pressured into a contract! I would highly recommend this company for any of your pest problems! read more

Poor customer service. Did not attempt to do what was promised. Very poor experience.

We contracted to have traps for critters. Hydrex set the traps and was supposed to come back over the next couple of weeks, check the traps, and then remove them. They did not come back for months. During a visit last week, Hydrex's employee stepped on a water pipe and totally broke it. Water came gushing out and threatened to flood under and around the house. To avoid serious damage, our contractor and the fire department were immediately called to our house. Because we use well water located on an adjoining lot, they had to break a lock to enter that property to turn off the water. A plumber came out our property shortly thereafter and repaired the damage. The bill was sent to Hydrex. Hydrex's response was that it had no liability as the contract said it was not responsible for damage to the property resulting from any cause. (The contact does not state that. It limits responsibility for damage resulting from pests, present or future.) Hydrex did offer to pay approximately 15% of the bill, but refused to pay anything for the plumber's charges. That was totally unacceptable to me. Hydrex refused to offer any more. In summary, I will never use Hydrex again. Not only was their service poor, but I find their refusal to take responsibility for obviously poor and destructive work reprehensible. read more

My wife and I needed a pest inspection for a home purchase recently. Hydrex came highly recommended. They didn't disappoint. The people in the office were incredibly helpful and accommodating especially considering we waited until the last minute to schedule it. Whoops. Our inspector (Dustin) was prompt and courteous. He walked us through the process and what he'd be doing. He was also very amusing which is a bonus when you're highly wound. Buying a house can be just the tiniest bit stressful. We received the report in short order and found it to be well written and explanatory. All in all, a great experience. You can't go wrong with Hydrex! read more

I have been a client of this company for over 8 years and because I missed a payment of $83 I was informed that I would be sent to collections. When I called to discuss it I was told there was nothing they would do about it if I couldn't pay the balance immediately and that they needed that money to run their business. The fact that you can be a client with a company for that many years and they would treat you that badly is HORRIBLE customer service. Just had to write about technician Chris (a female) who was fabulous! We got Chris out to investigate maggot/flies in our bedroom. She treated it and investigated the area.. turns out dead rat carcasses in the attic was causing flies/maggots! She took lots of pictures & recommended further treatment for rodents. Chris had a great demeanor, so professional and explained everything to us. She is an awesome lady! Although Hydrex wasn't able to complete the intense rodent service required, she recommended another provider and was extremely helpful throughout the process. I first used Hydrex about five years ago. It was a weekend and the competitor of Hydrex came to my house to get rid of insects flying outside, which I knew had something to do with a dead animal. To my surprise they found nothing and said they would be back out the next week with another crew. That was it. I called Hydrex and the gentleman that was on call Saturday came right over. He did find a dead possum and rat under the deck. He took care of this immediately. That's when I started using Hydrax on a bi-monthly basis. Since I've used them no little night creatures invading the backyard. The guys come at my convenience believe it or not. I work some early hours and they come earlier . We live in Benicia and have been using Hyredx Pest Control for about 4 years. We have 2 dogs that needed to be corralled inside the house- so I always needed to coordinate the times when they would be here. They always sent a card a week in advance to let you know when to expect them but- I usually ended up calling the day before our scheduled service and they were always very accommodating to change either the time or day. The women in the office were always really nice about it!! We have open space behind our house- which tends to bring all sorts of creatures around- as well as rats!! Everything Hydrex did worked quite well at keeping the unwanted creatures out! I especially loved our service guy- Arven. He was always on time or early! He was great with my dogs and they loved him and he is genuinely a nice guy- this all says a lot about the people Hydrex hires! The only reason we are stopping our service is because we are moving about 3 hours away from here. They provide great service, have great employees and they are affordable.....Can't beat that combination! I never thought I would miss my pest control guy! read more

I called 6 different exterminators today, Hydrex is the only one that would consider looking at my pest inspection, the only ones that cared about my time constraints and what I thought should happen with my home. They also took the time to explain everything in detail. My pest inspector told me that he has inspected four of our neighbors and they all have dry wood termites. My husband and I bought a hundred year old house that was vacant for around 20 years. Hydrex fixed termite damage, added ventilation to our crawl space, and replaced rotting wood around the exterior. How are they still in business! I'll start with explicit instructions not to use poison as we have a small dog and small children - guess what they used - poison. Our landlord set up the service, but when she refused to pay the full bill because they added a bunch of additional charges - Hydrex takes us to collections and told us to pay or they will just ruin our credit report. well first bad experience was when the technician sprayed my vegetables with poison and I had to destroy the plants. Gave them another chance when today the same technician claimed he had showed at my house for service and rang the doorbell and no one answered. Lets start with the fact that I do not have a doorbell. I phoned the office and they claimed that he would not lie- insinuating that I was. He then returned furious and threathened to cancel my service I asked him to leave and phoned the office again and requested a different technician come out- no one phoned back or came for the scheduled appointment. Awful! I will Never use this company! You shouldn't either!! They receive negative stars from me! I had an appointment from 11-12:00 today. I called Petaluma Hydrex to let them know I had an emergency in San Francisco this morning and I was going to be late. The dispatch woman was very unfriendly. I spoke to the technician and he said it was fine that I was late at he would still be able to come by later. I was at my home by 11:35. The technian (who was very kind) said he would be over in 15 min. I waited. Then I received a call at 12:03 from the dispatch saying they could not service my home because I was late. Also, they were billing me for $95.00 for a late fee. I Cannot believe this. I am literally in tears. There Must be extenuating circumstances to which your company can understand and wave the $95.00 fee and to recover my business for months/years to come. I am so upset and I will have to let anyone who wants to deal with Petaluma Hydrex to take their business elsewhere. Very unfriendly and unprofessional. Our contractor discovered termite evidence on day 1 of a 4 day home repair. All the other termite companies didn't answer their phones or weren't available for a week. Lisa answered my panicked call, took our info & promised to get a hold of Dustin who was in the area on a call. 30 mins latter Dustin is at my door! He was professional, quick & friendly. scam artists, ripping off 80 yr old women, go anywhere but here..... watch out for company's that make u sign big contracts and don't go over the details with you. this company is supposed to be an expert in rodent removal, after u sign, they figure your the expert now. poor mom was totally suckered by this company, at 80 yrs old she trusted them do a what they said and provide a complete service. what they did was get her to sign the contract without explaining anything about it, dropped some traps and never called us again.... we thought since they were the experts and only they know what they put under the house that they would be taking care of it..... not the case, after they drop traps then you become the expert as to when they are supposed to check them...... after months of not hearing from them at all... we called only to have their secretary mindlessly and without care tell us our contract was now up!!! this company gives even a worse name to big business in petaluma. they do not care at all. dont sign any contract with them, go anywhere but hydrex!!!!! 1,000 dollars stolen from my mom. Horrible work! I spent over $3,000 with this company on three separate visits for rodents and requested all access points to be sealed and traps set and when the rodents returned for a third time I was told by their manager that contrary to what I was originally told Hydrex does not guarantee their work will keep rodents out but that only they installed the seal points correctly meaning that they sprayed their foam they use into the right spots but offer no guarantee it will do any good. When I asked them to reinspect due to further rodents running around they said it would cost $280 even though they had already claimed they guarantee their own work will keep rodents out. If their work is only guaranteed to be done correctly but not guaranteed to work then why are they offering this service to the public? I decided to call Terminex which offered a better guarantee and better pricing. Don't work with Hydrex unless you want to throw your money away. They offer no guarantee their work will do any good. Ask them if they guarantee what they provide will keep out what you are looking to keep out and make sure you get it in writing cause Hydrex will go back on their word if you don't. read more
