I had been taking items to HP Cleaners for years and have had no issues. However, my last cleaning experience left MUCH to be desired and I know I wont be going there again. I brought in my favorite summer dress and skirt for cleaning and hemming. I came back on the day my items were due to be picked up. The owner COULD NOT FIND MY ITEMS!!!!!!!!!!! Told me to come back in 2days........... I came back........COULD NOT FIND MY ITEMS, they said they would call me.............2 days later I call them, they have found my items and they are ready for pick up. YAY! I was so happy, as I wanted to take these pieces out of town for my cousin's graduation(and I had an emotional attachment to them). I come in THE NEXT DAY and my skirt still isnt ready(it needs to be steamed)......I wait 20min, and ask if I will be receiving a discount for my trouble(remember, its been a WEEK since my items were supposed to be ready). The owner decides to take $5 off my bill........FINALLY I can leave with my fave summer pieces. Granted, I was more upset than I wouldve been other wise due to the fact that I loved these two pieces of clothing, HOWEVER, I was suprised by the fact that they showed NO REMORSE for forcing me to wait so long. A $5 discount was not adequate for items that were a WEEK LATE and you almost lost. Clothes that need to be dry-cleaned are too expensive to wonder that they might be loss, I dont need the stress. read more

After 11 years as a consistent, loyal customer who spent thousands of dollars at this cleaners, I am DONE. Their prices have skyrocketed (fine, it's inflation), but their customer service has completely gone into the toilet. In the last few months alone, they have not delivered some or all of my cleaning on the (not expedited) schedule they promised. The last straw was this week. The attendant told me that my shirts were not ready. When I complained in frustration, she could care less. "It happens," she said, getting annoyed with my frustration rather than taking responsibility. After talking to the outside vendor who apparently actually cleans the clothes, she said that they not ready because they were doing me a "favor" because the shirts didn't get cleaned properly, so they were doing them again. When I asked her to explain what that meant, as I paid for shirts (like every other time), and what it means that they were doing me a favor, she said she could have just returned dirty shirts. What???? Appalling. Worse, when I asked for the contact information of the owners, she said I could call the main number but it wouldn't matter "because they're my in-laws." I tried to explain to her (as she seems on the younger side) that this was terrible customer service and that she should appreciate what it means to take care of a customer--e.g., figure out how to make it right, offer a discount, do something to show that you care about customer satisfaction. She flatly retorted, "we just don't give discounts." Well, it's not about the few bucks of the discount; it's that they just don't give a flip. I told her that maybe I should take my business elsewhere, and she replied arrogantly: "I think you should do that." There are plenty of dry cleaners in the area. my Fiancé put pants in this particular cleaners 2 weeks ago... we have received so many run around excuses that the pants were done just to get there and say they aren't, the lady is on vacation, etc on several occasions. Just for me to call again today and say they can't do them i asked why didn't anyone call and inform us and when was someone going to call because i just came to pick them up the same day you all said they were ready so im not understanding. The lady over the phone is confused and can't answer the question.. why say you can do it just to give a customer a run around and not call and keep wasting our time gas and energy to come out there.. the quality , the value , the communication was poor and highly recommend not to use this cleaners. read more

I took my Canada Goose here to get it cleaned. When I picked it up there was water lines along the pockets. She told when she would remove it so I returned in two days. The coat is ruined. They Ruined my Calvin Klein wool coat and refused to accept responsibility. All material labels and care labels were in tact. When I asked for a refund, they said they would only refund me if they kept my coat! I had to call Chase and dispute the charges while they were in earshot. My bank assured me that that they have no right to keep my garment after they ruined it and the bank also assured me that the claim would be accepted and funds would be returned to my account if I chose to proceed. Please listen to the bad reviews and go elsewhere. I had an AWFUL experience here. I took jeans to be hemmed. The work was fine. However, the jeans were late, I was completely inconvenienced, and the owner was extremely rude. I will NEVER return and I DO NOT RECOMMEND going to this place. I was told my jeans would be ready on a Tuesday. On Wednesday, the day *after* my ticket said my jeans would be ready, I came in to retrieve them. I had a road trip planned and I wanted to leave by noon. When I arrived at 8am the cashier said she couldn't find my jeans and that I'd have to come back when the tailor came in at 10am. When I returned at 10, the tailor unapologetically said that she had not even started the job (please recall that my jeans should have been ready the day before). When I returned for the THIRD time, the tailor was not there when I asked if I could receive a discount for the delay, the inconvenience of having to come to the store THREE times, and delaying the start of my road trip. The cashier said she couldn't make the decision and I'd have to wait on the tailor. When the tailor finally returned from a trip to Trader Joe's. She yelled at me saying how she would never give a discount for anything and complained that doing a hem was a difficult job! Ha! I only wish I'd looked up their reviews before I went to this place. It seems that many people have had bad experiences. Their below 3 star rating is shameful and they probably don't care. I like to go to local businesses but not this one. If you want your clothes lost and no reimbursement.....this is the place. If you want a white line down the front of each pant leg, after instructing "No Crease" ...........this is the place. They did a good job on cleaning my winter coat.

I picked up a winter coat, shirt, and a dress. I didn't inspect the items on site and just hung up the items on my coat rack without looking at them till later that night. I noticed that half my dress was missing. It's a see through dress with a silk slip sewn inside and the slip was missing. Of course after reading all the reviews that night I did not feel optimistic about the slip. But I returned this morning, told them half my dress was missing, and they scrounged around the back for it. Apparently they thought it was a shirt and I didn't bother asking how something that was attached to the dress is now separate so I just left. I am not going to be returning and risk something worse happening to any of my items. read more

I live right down the street from Hyde Park Cleaners. I had been getting alterations done there for years, since I didn't know where to find a real tailor/ was too lazy to look. About a quarter of the time they mess up in some way: puckered seams on waistbands they took in, not following my instructions to keep the original hem, etc. In my experience, you need to leave Hyde Park to get a better job done. read more

The place was decent. I truly miss dry cleaning in the South--cheap, quick, honest, and excellent customer service (especially when they have misplaced something). My husband and I dropped some items off over the Christmas holiday. The young man who processed our order was very friendly, which was promising. We didn't have major time constraints, so we gave them an extra week to finish our clothes. His sweaters came back as promised. My coat, not so much. I needed it dry cleaned, 4 buttons tightened, and a seam repaired. I wasn't convinced the coat had been dry cleaned and only two buttons were completed. Did they just run out of time? The owner fixed the buttons on the spot, and I chose not to inquire about the cleaning. We probably won't be back. read more

I wish that I could write a better review. However, to be completely honest there are serious shortcomings with this dry cleaners. Although the quality of their work is good, items are often not ready as promised. On numerous occasions we have e been asked to come back later. Also alterations are often not ready or not done according to the requests originally made. This means that it must be redone again. So although the finished product ends up being good, there are some challenges getting it to that point. We will be going elsewhere in the future. read more

I have been using HPC since moving to Chicago in 2000. Up until this year, I have been very happy with them. The alterations have been good, the dry cleaning good and my semi-weekly batch of shirts have, until recently been all I wanted. It seems they have taken a definite turn for the worse lately. Out of the last 5 times I have taken my shirts there to be laundered, they were not ready as promised. I usually drop off Sat. morning and pick up the following Saturday. Three weeks in a row now, i have been told to come back later (after 4 - impossible for me on Saturdays) as they a) cannot find the shirts and I need to come back with the owner is there b) they failed to get them done and c) today they told me I had requested they be ready for after 4 today. NO MORE. I will go back on Monday and pick up my last load of shirts from HPC. read more

I take it into Hyde Park Cleaners and they manage to fix it up PERFECTLY, its fantastic. Buyer Beware! This cleaners does not guarantee their work!!! I place a brand new $400. suede jacket in this cleaners...a cleaners that our family had used for years; A CLEANERS WE TRUSTED WITH OUR FINEST GARMENTS.. My lemon yellow suede jacket came back to me crumpled and beige. After several attempts at correcting their cleaning errors, the jacket looked worse and worse. Miss K, the proprietor, admitted that the jacket was ruined, but said that it was not her fault, but the fault of their "leather specialist". I spoke with him and haggled with Miss K for over a year...to no avail. i cld not believe how I, her long time customer, was being treated.. She reimbursed the $42. I had paid for the cleaning and said "sorry." I was furious...but I found out , the more I told my friends about my experience with this cleaners, the more testimonies I heard about the inferior work, losing clothing....and not offering to compensate customers for ruining and losing their clothes. I also found out that a dry cleaner, in Chgo, does not have to belong to any type of regulation/licensing/governing org. You just open up a cleaners and start ripping off your customers. I thought that I would give this place a try while shopping at Treasure Island. I wish I had yelped them prior and would have saved myself time and money. I took a lab coat here to be cleaned and when I received it back there were stains, but more that there were pen marks not taken out of a white coat. I asked them what they could do and they said that they did the "best they could." I have had these cleaned elsewhere will all pen marks taken out. I then asked them to try. I went back for my coat and it was just handed to me. Of course when I took it home, the same pen mark was there from before. On the first incident the manager said that she would not refund me and was just plain rude. All of the prior negative reviews are true. Went there for the last time. Laundered shirt quality was never great but convenience to work and price were winning until today. Half the shirts were ok. Other half, collars sticking up and top buttons not straight. They said they 'come out how they come out because it is a standard press.' So I ask why half are ok and the other half aren't, she had no explanation and turned to help someone else. I had an awful experience here, actually at the hyde park blvd location but the management owns all locations. Total lack of integrity, honesty, respect etc. Let me first say that the workers at the front desk here were wonderful but the management was atrocious. I brought in 2 pair of pants to be hemmed and they were both completely butchered. One was repairable, the other was not as the tailor had cut the legs two different lengths, about 3 inches off. It took me several weeks to get a response from the management. The jeans retailed at about $65. He offered me $25 and $15 credit, not to mention I had already paid 11-12 bucks for the hem. Absolutely aweful communication and a real slap in the face. He made several promises about payment and communication and broke most of them. I just had a sweater and dress dry cleaned, both expensive, and both ruined. The sweater came back matted and shrunken, as if it was thrown in a washing machine and dryer. The dress came back with what looks like bleach stains on the front of it, ruining the color. If you care about your clothes, stay away. read more

This cleaners is terrible - and I have given them so many chances, but no more! The pants that were tailored have all come apart, they have lost my clothes more than once. Once I needed something done urgently, they said sure, ready by the next morning - not ready and hubster had to catch a flight to London without his only pair of suit pants.
