This was my favorite dry cleaner during my 15 years of living on the South Side of Chicago. Coming in at 5' I had many articles of clothing expertly altered here as well. Sung Ryou and her opera-loving husband Kap always welcomed me with big warm smiles. I am a customer of this cleaners for over 10 years. And today's experience was met with the front base of the business full of trash. Upon entry I stated that they needed to clean up the front area and that did not sit well with the make employee whose attitude turned extremely rude. I have never seen the front of the business look so unattractive. And maybe because these are no owners who probably don't live in the community, our dollars are their only priority. I have items cleaned here at least bi weekly. I came in today to discuss a stain on the leg that I was not aware of when I brought them in; they had a satisfactory process where they took a photo of my items and explained that the stain was there when I brought them in. Ok cool. But the attitude of now a female employee was rude, disrespectful and quite frankly made me feel uncomfortable as she was taking to a piece of trash instead of a human. I asked for the owner's name and was told it was none of my business, and was not given the information. Again disregarding my request as if I was gum on the bottom of her shoes. I left the business card without incident. Because I respect all people no matter who they are. But I was not respected or talked to in the same manner. I have reported this matter to the HPCC and the Better Business Bureau. I will also speak with the Alderman office about this interaction. As a 30 year resident of this community it goes without saying that Hyde Park in most cases is known for their stellar customer relations. If this is the standard by which the new owners of Cornell Cleaners value their customers, my money will no longer be spent here. read more

I rarely post reviews, however, yesterday evening I never would have thought simply picking up my clothes from the same dry cleaners that I have been going to over 4 years would lead to the Police being called on me..!! All because when I got my clothes one of my dresses now has a stain and instead of the owner reasoning with me as I continuously asked for a refund or credit she called the cops!! Words can't even begin to express how I feel right now. I mean This lady messed up my clothes, called the police and then smiled at me afterwards?? This whole situation is just mind blowing to me...I would think one would want to uphold good business ethics and not lose a loyal customer. I will not be doing business here anymore and I STRONGLY urge others not to!! read more

I was quoted one price to get a couple pair of pants altered and when I returned I was quoted something entirely different!! I've taken several items to this dry cleaner and have almost always had a great experience. They replaced a zipper on a jacket that at least 5 other places said they couldn't fix, in addition to cleaning other pieces well. My only negative experience was that I dropped off a leather purse and it was ruined. They ship their leather out instead of doing it in house, so I mostly blame myself for not doing enough research and finding a leather-specific place. They've done great work on all other items. read more

Cornell cleaners is a fine place to go for basic items. However, anything delicate, of unusual construction, wool sweaters or items constructed of multiple types of material should be taken someplace else. I took 2 wool sweaters to them for cleaning; both came back with all buttons broken and the sweaters were drastically shrunken. A dress with metallic braid was returned to me with a hole burned into it I found the hole after I returned home. When I asked for a refund, I did not even get an apology, let alone the refund. Refund would only have been an option if I had found it before taking it home.). A sheepskin coat was returned with all the inter-seam strengtheners ripped out. That said, they have always done a very good job with basic items: wool skirts, down coats, pleated skirts, linen items. The staff used to be very competent and rather friendly, now that seems to be changing. Prices are reasonable. Return time is good. Just remember to take really special items elsewhere. read more

I was in this establishment and about to leave my clothing when I saw a customer who was complaining about a stain on her clothing from their dry cleaning process get the ultimate insult, the owner called the police on her. This young lady was acting in a civil manner and simply requested a refund. Unbelievable! If that's how they treat their customers I don't want anything to do with them. We've been going there for years and we're always met warmly by the owners. The service there is great and Mrs. Yu is a very skilled seamstress. If you're lucky, you'll get a pair of socks around Christmas time. I highly recommend them. read more

Very fast and high quality tailoring. Brought a suit jacket in to be resized, and they had it back to me the next day. I couldn't even tell where the alteration was done to bring in the waist. Reasonably priced as well. Would go again. read more

i brought my pants here to be altered due in large part to the overwhelmingly positive yelp reviews. however, i am so very disappointed in their service. i brought 2 pairs of pants in to be taken in at the waist (with a seemingly simple dart) on friday 12/02/2016. i have had this exact tailoring done a dozen times, never had a problem before. the man was very nice. when he finished safety pinning them in the proper spots and i got dressed again, he asked me when i needed them by. i said whenever they were ready was fine. he said thank you and told me to come pick them up thursday 12/08/2016 after 5 pm. i was busy on thursday evening, so i went in to pick them up on friday, 12/09/2016. he told me they were not ready yet. he looked around, and found them laying on a shelf the exact way that i personally had folded them up 7 days ago. so they had not even been touched in 7 days. he apologized and said to come back tomorrow afternoon. so i left empty handed. things happen, people get busy, what's an extra day? then i got a call the same evening (friday) at 5:45 from a woman. she asks if i can come back in so she can see the pants on me. i am working on saturday, they are closed on sunday, i am working monday through thursday...i explained my frustration. i asked why i was even fitted by this gentleman in the first place if she is the one who does the alterations and needs to see the garment herself. she says usually it's ok if he does the fitting. i asked why, if this indeed was a special circumstance, i wasn't notified earlier to come back in? i could have come in the following day, or earlier this week, or even earlier today rather than my clothing just sitting in their store untouched. then she informed me that the gentleman also rang me up wrong, and instead of $15 each for a single dart in a single pair of pants, she charges $22. so not only do they want me to come into their store 2 extra times (1 time for the incorrect pick up, 1 time for the re-fitting), she also wants to charge me MORE. in her words "work is work." i agreed with her, but had to remind her that no work had been done on my pants at all. in 7 days. i sent my boyfriend to pick up my pants un touched the following morning (saturday, 12/10/2016). i will, at her kind request /s/ be taking my business elsewhere. very frustrated. i just want my pants to fit! read more
