This restaurant offers an upscale Chinese dining experience with Cantonese dim sum. The atmosphere is elegant and quiet, with soft lighting that creates a refined and comfortable setting. The space is well maintained, and even the restrooms are very clean and nicely designed. The staff were friendly and welcoming throughout the meal, but the pacing in general slow, so it's better suited for a relaxed dinner or conversation rather than just a meal experience. It could work well for a business meeting if not in a hurry. One dish that really stood out was the crispy beef pastry with a molten salted egg yolk center. It was extremely crispy and fragrant, and so good that we seriously considered ordering another one. Some of the other dishes, such as the noodles, leaned salty and were not memorable. However, the vegetable dishes were very flavorful and nicely prepared. (Low sodium was requested) Reservation is recommended.

The food was fine. The Peking duck (which came with leftover duck afterward) was very good and my favorite, but the wontons (brunch dim sum item), mapo tofu, green beans, steamed sea bass were all good. The fried rice and Dan Dan noodles were okay. The prawns were good, but were more spicy than mala. The portion sizes were so small that it was a bit shocking. Hard to tell from the picture, but it felt like there were 10 green beans in the dish. The dan dan noodles came in a tiny bowl. The steamed sea bass also felt like a bite sized portion, as opposed to the normal whole fish you usually get at Chinese restaurants. I know it's a fine dining place, but it felt a little jarring. I also think it was a bit much that the dim sum portions only had one piece but were ~$10, which is why we didn't get any at bench (I suspect it may be to push people towards their bao and brunch set menu where you get unlimited certain dim sum dishes).

If you're looking to have some Northern Chinese/Sichuan-style dishes in a fabulous, upscale art deco setting, then Hutong is an excellent option. Everything about my visit was great. From the attentive service, to the upscale environment, to the very delicious dishes, everything was just perfect. My appetizer was the calamari flowers, which is a spicy dish served cold. It was delicious. It wasn't overly spicy, so I think anyone can enjoy it. Along with that I also had a dumpling dish that was also very tasty. For my main I had the Kung Po Iberico Pork. It's a seasoned pork dish served with apples and cashews mixed in, which really brought the dish alive. That dish was amazing. As a side I had the veggie fried rice, which was also very good. For dessert, the plum sorbet, which was refreshing. I was recently at the flagship Hutong in Hong Kong, and wanted to compare experiences. They are both wonderful upscale environments. I can't recommend Hutong enough. It's a fabulous dining experience that any lover of Chinese cuisine will enjoy.

After a morning spent visiting Grand Seiko and Bucherer, my friend and I decided to stop for lunch here--and it proved to be an excellent choice. My dining companion happens to be a preeminent horologist and an enthusiastic gourmand, so expectations were appropriately high. We ordered from the lunch menu and supplemented with a few items from the regular menu. Highlights included the Seared Scallops, Hot & Sour Soup, Sanchen Chicken, and the Ma La Beef Tenderloin, all of which were well-executed and boldly flavored without being heavy-handed. A small but memorable detail: my friend pointed out that the dried chilies in the Sanchen Chicken are meant as aromatics and garnish rather than something diners are expected to eat--after confirming this, it made perfect sense and reflected the kitchen's attention to authentic technique. The happy hour is particularly strong. The Farmer's Negroni was outstanding and easily one of the better cocktail variations I've had recently. While we opted not to order their famous torched Peking Duck, a nearby table did, and it looked spectacular--definitely something to try on a return visit. The setting adds another layer of appeal. The restaurant occupies the former Le Cirque space, which closed in 2017, and the room retains a sense of scale and polish fitting for its Midtown location in the Bloomberg Building at One Beacon Court. This was also the U.S. debut of the Hong Kong-based Aqua Restaurant Group. While the New York location opened in 2019, the Hutong brand itself dates back to Hong Kong in 2003, with an additional outpost in London's Shard. Overall, this is an impressive destination for refined Northern Chinese cuisine with Sichuan influences, excellent cocktails, and a polished atmosphere. Whether for a business lunch, a happy hour drink, or a more indulgent dinner, it's a place well worth revisiting.

The food felt too expensive for the small portion size. It came out to around $80 for three people, with two main dishes, rice and an appetizer with dessert. The interiors were really fancy art deco vibes, but it didn't really give me the Shanghai vibe that it was going for. The service was very good and attentive, and the milk tea tiramisu dessert was good with the tea on the side. A good fancy place for celebrations!

The interior is nice. Seating has some couch like options which is fun. Service was rough. Not enough staff. Hard to find a person when needed. Very disappointed given the price point. Don't come if you're expecting service to be great. The duck was great. It's $65 for half duck, which is a good amount of food. I did enjoy their Peking/Beijing duck. You can do a whole one for i think $150... and there's a flaming duck option i think. I just wanted to try the basic. Kung pao shrimp is a tiny dish with like 5 medium sized shrimp. Ok flavor. Dim sum variety mix was good but not great. I think there was a lobster dumpling in there that was good though. Wine is crazy overpriced for a limited selection. Not impressed. I would back for the duck but nothing else was worth it.

To be honest, you're paying for the nice venue than the food. The dumplings and vegetables weren't any tastier than your favorite local dim sum hole in the wall. The staff was very nice as were the bathrooms. I recommend skipping everything except for the dessert as it was the best part. We got the Treasures which was a little of everything. It was very tasty and cool looking especially the Childhood and ice cream. Don't eat the chocolate coins though because they were old. The tiramisu used cocoa powder and not espresso so it wasn't very good. Their version of a milk tea was very interesting and different with popping boba. The other mocktails were okay. Not crowded at all for a Friday lunch.

Visually stunning restaurant with ample of dining seating . The food was delicious . The mapo tofu was packed with punch and the tofu was silken so it just melt in the mouth .Fantastic overall diner experience .

The ambience was amazing felt like Emerald city, the food was incredible especially the Kung pow Iberico tableside tiramisu! Our waitress was incredible top-notch Service!

An upscale chinese establishment with really cool decor, amazing service and unique menu. Honestly, it's a great option if you want upscale asian fusion. I'd take clients or out of towners here for sure! We got a whole variety of dishes and they were all good. The price is a bit high but thought it was fair for nyc. I liked the duck and mushroom dumplings the most!

If you don't rate this solid 5, you ordered wrong The duck (extra crispy) is to die for. It is table service fried and sliced. The rest of it comes out pan seared with green beans - eat this second after the sliced duck. The duck comes with pancakes (super thin). Add the hot chili to it which you need to ask for separately- - and you will not stop eating. If you want an alternate ask for the lettuce wraps. I usually do a combo of both. Makes me feel a little healthy?? Highly recommend sitting at the bar. Very comforting and gives off good corporate vibes. Service at the bar is also fantastic. For my old soul, this is a more afternoon / happy hour for me. Some nights (not sure which ones) there is a DJ. It is only in the bar area, the table / restaurant is a completely different side, so you can avoid it if you don't want to listen to a DJ.

    Natalie H.

A good spot for events. The entrance has a drop off zone, so it's convenient for ubers and taxis. The peking duck was pretty good and comes with a second lettuce wrap dish!

Do they serve roasted duck for lunch on Sunday?

    They open for Monday?

Yes 5PM-10PM Must make reservations You need proof of vaccination and ID

Do they still have a limit on the number of Peking Duck served a day? If my reservation is at 5:45PM, will they still have it?

They have always had it when I was there.if youwant tone sire, I suggest you go early.

Can I just walk in without a reservation?

Yes but you'll most likely get a spot at the salon which is first come first serve. I think it's almost the full menu except two items. One being the duck.

    Does Hutong have valet parking?

None. It is in the Bloomberg building. But there are parking lots nearby.

Can I eat at the bar if I can't get a table?

Yes Margot, they have a beautiful longe and bar are which is first come first serve, they have a a full menu at the bar but a LARGER in the dining room area.

    Is it baby friendly?

    NO! Leave the baby home!

Can I get the duck carcass back if we order the whole duck?

They server the duck as 2 stages. So they actually bring the carcass back to the kitchen to take the rest of the duck breast out to make the second stage. If you skip the 2nd stage, you can have the carcass which is the bones

Do we need reserve roast duck?

Also get the whole duck not half trust me.

Is this related to the Hutong in Hong Kong? *hopeful*

    Yes it is! And London!

What kind of cuisine does it offer? It says dimsum on yelp, but website says northern food, pictures looks like Sichuan. It's a bit confusing.

Hutong refers to a certain style of alleyways in Beijing. So, northern food is most accurate.

I was seated right near the stairs and could feel cold air from outside every time the door opened, which made the experience uncomfortable. I was also surprised to see how much the cocktail menu had been reduced. When I asked about it, the response was that "the place changed a lot." That's fair -- places evolve -- but instead of highlighting the improvements or new strengths, the explanation focused negatively on what the bar used to be. As someone who really enjoyed the former version, that wasn't reassuring. Unfortunately, the drinks themselves didn't make up for it. One of the two cocktails was simply not good. No one came back to check on the drinks, and when I asked for the check after about 20 minutes, there was no acknowledgment that I had barely touched mine or any inquiry about my experience. Overall, a place I once enjoyed and recommended now feels more like a standard dive bar where " Mixologist " were replaced by bartender and were fun cool looking and tasty drinks were replaced by " less complex cocktail ", lacking the warmth and attention to detail that once made it special.

We started with half a dozen oysters, which were fresh, briny, and exactly what you want with serious cocktails. Crisp, clean, gone in about three minutes. For drinks, we ordered the Smoke Show and the King Tusk. The Smoke Show was beautifully balanced. The Grey Goose vodka and Dolin Dry gave it that classic martini backbone, but the fino sherry and brine added depth. The smoked olive oil and blue cheese olive brought just enough savory drama without overpowering the glass. It was complex but not fussy. The King Tusk leaned more aromatic and layered. The vermouths gave it richness, while the Buddha's Hand and osmanthus flower added subtle citrus and floral notes that lingered in a really elegant way. It felt like a cocktail designed to be savored slowly. The music fit the mood perfectly, not too loud, just enough to give the room energy without killing conversation. We had an extra person when we checked in and they happily added her to the rez. We just had to wait about 15 mins which was fine. We were seated around 7:30pm. It was busy and bustling in the upstairs bar. We were seated at a spot resembling a coffee table(s) with chairs / ottomans surrounding it. I got the martini. It was a fun play with the green curry and saffron. This place is a little loud, so it is not easy to have a convo with your party. I am old so this probably wouldn't have been something I clocked in my younger years. They do have food which looks intriguing. Especially anything with truffles on it. If in the area, would definitely consider coming back for a quick drink and bite. REVIEW #4013
