Grabbed a last-minute reservation for dinner on a Saturday night. My boyfriend and I shared: + Crab rice lava + Pae sa pla tod - crispy fried branzino + tod mun goong - shrimp cakes Shrimp cakes were the standout. Crab rice was also good. Sadly they ran out of mango sticky rice for dessert, so we went elsewhere for ice cream. Overall felt it was decent, but would rather go to Chalong, Soothr or Fish Cheeks for the price point. Good if you live in the area but I don't think it's a destination.
When it comes to Thai food in the Upper East Side, Tha Phraya lands as number two on my list of favorites. This restaurant is great for date nights, with an elevated interior and an equally elevated food to match. Every single dish my husband and I tried here was superb, from the beef stew to the pad Thai to the crab fried rice. Out of everything, my favorite bites were the latter two. The paid Thai was the perfect blend of sweet and vinegary, the fish sauce coming through strongly for that punch of umami. The noodles also had a good chew. The crab fried rice was spectacular. Wonderful flavors of spicy and garlicky. I enjoyed that dish that most. If you're looking for a nice night out, give Tha Phraya a try.

This place has a variety of dishes that offer authentic Thai flavors. I myself tried a dish, the ka prow stewed beef. This was recommended by our server and it did not disappoint. It was a perfect balance of spicy and savory! Portion also great. We ordered a few starters and they were also good. Cocktails: Tasty, there's a variety of drinks based on a different spirit. Was nice to see mezcal here! Service & Ambience: Friendly service, he was very welcoming and brought out a dessert for the birthday girl. The ambience here is cozy, noise level is nice. We can hear each other talk. Perfect place for a dinner or intimate birthday celebration!
This is Not a baby friendly place. My friend also has a baby, we both went here for lunch and it was overall not the best experience. We went at a later lunch hour at 2:30pm (the lunch specials end at 3:30pm). First they don't have high chairs, only booster seats. So I ended up holding my baby on my lap. Then we were not allowed to bring our strollers in, well at least they gave me a fuss about it in the beginning. The restaurant was empty. Only about 4-5 tables occupied. I eventually was able to bring stroller and park it at our table. But my friend had to leave her baby stroller by the front door. The entire time it felt like the wait staff was annoyed that we would even come with our babies. It really was not a friendly air. When it came to the food, I had better choices this time. I ordered from the restaurant week. Got the chicken wings and the beef soup. Loved the chicken wings! Spicy!! It had a delicious kick to it. And the beef soup was a perfect remedy to the cold. Overall really not a baby-kid friendly place. Would not go back with my baby.

We ordered three appetizers: Papaya salad - $17 Peek gai (chicken wings) - 6 for $17 Goong gaew (raw shrimp) - 6 shrimp for $22 In addition, we shared three entrees: Crab fried rice - $32 Kaeng ped yang (duck curry) - $36 Kra pow stewed beef - $29 Mushroom fish curry - This was on a special menu so not too sure about the deets here I would say that the prices are on the higher end for what you get (why I included the prices). Portions are definitely on the small end here. The wings were tiny, and the raw shrimp felt low effort. The shrimp itself wasn't briny, but the dipping sauce on the side feels low effort. Papaya salad was good! This is usually my favorite thing to get at Thai restaurants. Entrees were underwhelming. Crab fried rice doesn't taste like much, and the lava egg was pretty overcooked. Would have preferred the stewed beef in smaller pieces. It was a little gamey to me. Mushroom fish curry sauce was decent; I think it had lightly fried salmon in it. I personally don't eat duck curry, but my friend said it was very alright. Nothing stand out.
My friends and I were craving Thai food, so we decided to try this restaurant. The ambiance was cozy and inviting! We started with the pork bao buns, which were incredibly flavorful, and the shrimp dumplings, which I would definitely return for. For my entrée, I ordered the pad see ew with chicken--it had fantastic flavor, and the chicken was perfectly tender. I enjoyed it with a glass of Prosecco, which paired really well. The staff was attentive, and overall, we had a wonderful dining experience.

For main, we had the crab fried rice and beef soup. I would not recommend the crab fried rice as the rice and egg were immensely bland with a few lumps of crab meat on top. The beef soup had nice pieces of meat and meatballs along with bean sprouts. The soup was hot and sour, just not for me. Service was subpar and perhaps it was due to the time of day we came in. They came by a few times to refill water but could not be bothered to take away the plates which made things very difficult on such a small table. The inside is clean and airy. I'm sure they have other things on the menu that might be better than what we picked.
This is a great Thai place. I had the duck confit satay, which is a seasonal dish. The duck was crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. The peanuty satay sauce was great. They provided lettuce and I made a little wrap with the duck, satay sauce, rice, and vinegar side sauce they gave and it was delicious and well balanced. They seem to be known for their crab fried rice, and it was also delicious. The green sauce really elevated it and gave it a nice kick, and the crab was not fishy at all. The egg omelette was not super dry, which I liked. My cocktail was ok, it was nothing extraordinary. Would come back to try some of their other dishes.
Tha Phraya served up a good Thai meal in a fancy setting. They won a Michelin star last year, so this isn't your lunch takeout kind of restaurant. The chive dumpling starter was really interesting, good flavor and an almost mochi-like consistency. The chicken khao soi was pretty good, I love it when this northern Thai dish shows up on menus. This version tasted good, but didn't stand out as exceptional relative to other khao soi meals I've had. Solid dining experience overall, you won't be disappointed coming here!

There are a lot of options on the menu and drinks as well. Went with the Thai iced tea, crab fried rice and chose a pad see ew from their lunch menu. The food all came at once. The crab fried rice was good. I loved the green sauce they pair it with. I'm still wondering how they get the egg to be that color. Crab was a generous portion. Lunch special was not overly sweet. Had a lot of pad see ew's that are sweet. The eggs from the dish was cooked perfectly. Taro spring rolls had a crunch to it. Good starter dish. Drink was sweet and tasty. Service was attentive and staff was extremely kind. Was such an authentic experience in a very nice setting!
Yummy Thai spot with unique dishes! We ordered: -Crab fried rice lava: this is different from the other crab fried rice I've had at other Thai restaurants. Love that they added a fluffy egg omelet on top of the fried rice -Khao yum Pla-Tod: a yummy fried fish over rice dish. The jasmine rice mixed with shallots was fragrant and refreshing. The fish was also perfectly fried. We didn't have a reservation but they were able to accept walk ins with seats by the bar. Interior design was very pretty and would definitely come back again to try the other items on the menu!
Came here for dinner on a Saturday with two friends after a visit to the Met. It was a quick walk from the Met and we were seated promptly without. The menu is very interesting and authentic without much of the basic Thai curry's or noodle dishes like other restaurants. We decided to get the chicken wings and curry puffs to share. I got the duck with egg noodles and my friends got chicken khao soi and zabb hang. I also got a Thai tea. The curry puffs and all the noodle dishes taste very flavorful. The portion size is just about right. I thought it looked small but we all got quite full after the meal. The chicken wings are a bit small and the Thai tea had too much broken ice but the mains are worth the hype. The interior is chic and great for a date or friends catchup. The service was fast and friendly. Would love to come back and try other dishes. read more
2026 Michelin Bib Gourmand Restaurant. The experience was so-so; the ambiance was cramped, but a few dishes were okay. Miang-Kham: Supposedly a Michelin-recommended dish, but none of us could appreciate it... The bitterness of the konjac leaves was overwhelming, combined with the spiciness of ginger, chili, and onions, making each bite a painful experience. The dried shrimp, coconut flakes, and sweet and sour sauce couldn't salvage it. Crab Fried Rice Lava: A signature dish, and it was a safe bet. The rice was fried with a nice wok hei (wok aroma), very fragrant; the egg crepe and crab meat were also good, but personally, I thought it was a bit overcooked. Adding the spicy and sour Thai seafood dipping sauce helped cut through the richness, but it easily made the fried rice moist, and the creativity wasn't as good as the one in the September in Bangkok restaurant in New Haven, CT, which highlighted the spiciness of raw garlic. Pla Yang: My friend ordered this. Objectively speaking, the fish was grilled quite well, with crispy skin and tender meat, but it was just a simple grilled fish, served with the same Thai seafood dipping sauce. Nothing special. Panang Nuea: My friend ordered this. Another unremarkable curry beef dish, but at least it was a fragrant and appetizing with rice, nothing wrong with it. Mango Sticky Rice: Very similar to the one in September in Bangkok, both sweet and savory, but without caramel, and the coconut milk was quite rich, making it a bit too greasy. The default tip for groups of 5 or more is 20%. It wasn't mentioned when booking, and the fact that it's written in small print at the very bottom of the menu is quite baffling... read more

As someone who could eat Thai food practically every day, of course I was overjoyed when my friends so generously allowed me to spontaneously join their dinner resy because we actually feasted so hard that night (rip our wallets). We family-styled a bunch of different dishes, starting with the Yum Som O. It was my first time having pomelo salad instead of papaya, but I absolutely loved that sweet and sour kick of citrus with the saltiness of the fish and herbs. Would say the portion size is a wee bit small though. Next we had the Crab Fried Rice Lava, which has a lot of mixed reviews but imo the fried rice itself was good - my fav part was actually the green sauce that comes with it because it has this fresh, zesty kick to it - I basically used it with almost every other dish because it was THAT good. We also got the Zabb Hang, which wasn't my personal favorite as I wasn't a fan of the noodles, not sure if it really complements the pork. The Pad Ka-Prow was a solid classic with flavorfully marinated pork + egg and rice cooked perfectly to balance out with the saltiness. We really liked the Goong Karee as it wasn't too heavy but had creamy, chewy texture. We got the Kuay Tiew Nuea Toon (or maybe it was Nuea Toon Mor Fai? not sure), which was a deep, savory beef noodle stew to balance out with all the rice dishes. Finally for dessert, we ordered the Ice Cream Mor Fai out of curiosity (you don't see "ice cream hotpot" everyday), and it was fun to try out the different flavors and textures (lots of Asian flavors + first time trying jackfruit!). The interior has a nice dim ambience for an intimate dinner setting, and service was nice! Definitely recommend coming with a group so you try out different plates!! read more

Tha Phraya had been on my list for a while, was super excited to check it out. Definitely stood out as a very solid Thai restaurant in the area. The pad see ew was delicious - classic flavor and done just right. I also really loved the ka nom jeep dumplings, which were super tasty, as was the sauce that came with. Would for sure return! read more
Food was good, but the hospitality of the place was awful. I do not like places that have reservation timings and this place was so strict on it. To the point where I literally basically just started eating my entree and they took my plate out from under me, didn't even ask if I wanted a box and that was that. I really wanted to try their mango sticky rice and we didn't even get that opportunity. Just got the check and when we asked if we could order dessert, they said they had run out of dessert. My friend who lives in the area heard good things about this restaurant and wanted to give it a try. She made reservations, which was probably the right move for lunch on a Sunday. Both the inside and outside of the restaurant had a nice charm. I ordered the pad see ew with beef. I love a thick noodle, so this definitely satisfied my craving. I liked the texture of the noodle, as it wasn't too chewy or hard. Everything was super flavorful. Overall, very good Thai food! read more
So delicious! Papaya salad (5/5): I got mild spicy and it was still had a good kick, heads up! Really fresh and crunchy, so good. Khao soi (6/5): SO rich and flavorful and delicious! Chicken was fall of the bone tender. The skin was not crispy fyi. Noodles were also soft but in a good way! Definitely would order again. read more
This place exceeded expectations and cemented its legacy in my mind as NOT just another thai restaurant in the UES. Both the fish rice dish and the crab egg dish were executed perfectly and left me wanting more. Ambiance was very modern, clean, and put together. Service was stanfard. Only reason it's not a 5 star is because thai food is already super competitive in NYC - and I've definitely been to places that wow'd me more. read more
We got the crab fried rice lava (3/5), kaeng ped yang (5/5), ba-mee ped (4.25/5), and seafood pad khee-mai (4.5/5). The crab fried lava rice was disappointing. There was not that much crab, and it did not have too much flavor, although the sauce helped with this. Overall, it was an expensive and average (or slightly below, especially for the price) fried rice. The kaeng led yang was incredible; the pineapple in the curry was so good! I thought including grape tomatoes in it was an odd choice, but it still worked. The duck was well cooked and had a great flavor, which the curry complimented well. The ba-mee ped had a good peanut sauce, and the seafood pad khee-mai had a nice helping of seafood and excellent flavor. The service was good, other than that we ordered a fifth dish, which they forgot (3.5/5). Once we pointed it, they apologized and offered to put it in, but it worked out because we were already pretty full. They did a good job of keeping waters full and checking how everything was. The interior of the restaurant is pretty nice, and the restaurant has a good vibe for a nice night out (4/5). read more

What's going on here? Thought bib gourmands were supposed to be good values. If so, why are 3 curry puffs $17? Why are 3 scoops of ice cream $25? Why are 7 famine wings $17? The beef stew and the duck were great, but the crab was mainly batter, and the zabb hang (?) noodles were lackluster. Expecting much more when each plate is $29. Doubtful I'll come back when there are many better options for 33% less. Can also just walk 2 blocks away to Van Leeuwen for ice cream. read more
A fantastic execution of traditional Thai cuisine. Very solid service but the gem of this place was the food. We loved every single item we had and lunch special was a great deal ($19.50 for lunch and app Monday through Friday 12-3:30pm). A solid ambiance for a quick lunch or even a date night potentially. read more
Went here to grab a quick bite before a movie, and the food was phenomenal! Definitely a more traditional Thai menu, but one I could very much get behind. The service was fast and all of the staff was very kind! It was a small restaurant, but it made it feel cozy and welcoming! My friend and I shared our dishes and they were the perfect size! Solid Thai restaurant near the MET Chive dumplings- crispy, squishy, just the way they're supposed to be. Delicious dipping sauce, highly recommend Taro spring rolls- crispy, filling, loved the taro inside- it wasn't squishy like I worried it would be, it had a good texture and bite, complemented with other veggies Duck red curry with lychee/pineapple/tomatoes - delicious flavors but it was quite spicy. Duck fat wasn't rendered properly so I had to cut off the skin because it was too chewy. Really flavorful main course though. I asked for mild and they said it would be mild- but my mouth was on fire Green curry- also a delicious curry, and also left my mouth on fire Thai iced tea- tasty, not too sweet which I enjoyed Coconut mocktail- delicious option, the butterfly pea gave it a pretty purple color. Lovely presentation, always appreciate it when restaurants put effort into nice cocktails Service was great. Place was packed, we were 20 mins late for our reservation (tried to call but couldn't get through to someone). Ended up getting a seat at the bar and were grateful for that because there were a lot of people waiting to be seated. read more
The drinks were good got the can smashed it was a stronger Pina colada the lucky one was very good enjoyed it more. The wings were good flavorful and crispy,the crab lava rice had good flavor a little small compared to other locations and the curry chicken noodles had great flavor, got the Thai cheesecake and Thai ice cream really enjoyed the ice cream. read more

The service is welcoming, and the vibes are intimate and cozy. ＊Crab Fried Rice Lava $32 * We tried their top-rated crab fried rice, and it exceeded my expectations! Though light on lump crab, the well-seasoned rice, tangy green sauce, and silky omelette made my taste buds sing. ＊Chicken Khao Soi $25 ** I scored another excellent khao soi in the city--creamy coconut curry broth, a melt-off-the-bone chicken leg, and a satisfying combo of crispy and soft egg noodles. We devoured the entire bowl and drank up the soup. ＊Ba-Mee Ped $26 ** I was hesitant to try at first as the duck noodles I had at other thai spots were underwhelming. BUT the caramelized roasted duck breast was SO GOOD. Each piece was thinly sliced and tender. The noodle was garlicky after mixing with the sauce. ＊Tod Mun Goong $18 * ＊Taro Spring Roll $16 ＊Som Tum Plara $19 We got a few apps to share -- the shrimp donuts and spring rolls arrived piping hot, so be careful when you take your first bite. I really enjoyes the shrimp donhts with the sweet, tangy dipping sauce. The taro spring rolls and papaya salad were just okay. ＊Ice Cream Mor Fai $25 *** Jaw dropped when they served the ice cream hot pot with smoke rushing out! The scoops were made of thai tea, coconut (2 scoops), and mango. I could literally taste the indicated flavor from each one. ＊Mango Stickt Rice $16 The mango sticky rice was also solid--sweet mango paired with sticky rice drenched in coconut milk. read more

Tha Phraya has great dishes and bad ones. I was inspired to come for the crab fried rice but honestly skip it. It was very underwhelming; the egg was just sitting on top without being incorporated into the dish. There were small pieces of crab and not much flavor. The Pla Yang (grilled branzino) was pretty dry and bland. While I did not enjoy those, the next 2 dishes were amazing. The Pad Snow Leaves had top notch seasoning and flavor. It was sautéed in homemade brown sauce that compliments the vegetables. The star of the show was the Goong Karee. The flavor was amazing. The milk, egg, onion in yellow curry sauce was aromatic, yummy, and out of the world. The sauce was not super overpowering along with the giant shrimp. read more

I must update my review from Sunday May 17th of this location as I dropped them in rating. My friend whose soup was too spicy was told she would get a replacement made less spicy which they would make to go but when she opened the bag it was not a fresh dish it was her left overs. We thought everything ended pleasantly until I found out we were lied to. Not good for business. My friends and I appreciate business and personal honesty above all else. We went for a late lunch/early dinner after visiting the Met and had some phenomenal food and drinks! Not your ordinary Thai food. The only thing we weren't that impressed with was the taro spring rolls. We had the braised beef, the mapo tofu, shrimp curry and my fav, the noodle appetizer. The drinks were so yummy! I recently visited for dinner. Made a reservation and was accommodated smoothly. Tables in the back are a little bit small but very cozy and good ambience. The service was very good and they were very attentive. Food came pretty quickly. Overall, I enjoyed the khao soi but it was not my favorite (that award goes to soothr) the crab flavor in the crab fried rice was good. But nothing crazy to write Home about. I did enjoy the pieces of crab and the green sauce, which was like a combination of lime fish sauce and cilantro, which really makes the dish as a whole. The crab pieces were very soft, tender and flavorful in the future. I would get the curry in the future. Had a good experience at Tha Phraya, it had similar vibes to Soothr but I liked this menu more. We ordered the spring rolls per our waiter's suggestion and it was delicious and very spicy. For entrees, we ordered khao soi and the pad ka prow. Both were pretty great, khao soi never disappoints. Really really solid Thai food, similar vibe but much tastier than the popular spot Soothr. We ordered 1 app, 3 mains and 1 veg for a group of 4 and it was a good amount of food to leave us satiated. The highlights were the corn salad with the salted duck egg, which was so refreshing, and the soft shell crab curry. This one was absolutely delicious, we were scraping the plate clean. So flavorful with the perfect texture without being too decadent! The dry noodle was also recommended by the restaurant. The texture of the noodles were delicious and the meatballs were so juicy and packed with flavor, but I personally found the noodles to be a bit saucy. The branzino curry was also good, but the flavor of the curry wasn't exactly my cup of tea. The service here was so fast too, overall a great quick meal with comforting food.
