Without a doubt this is the best bike shop in Bend. The employees are super friendly, helpful, and if you have a small problem that just needs a quick fix, they either don't charge for it or charge a nominal price. I bought an e-bike from another store in town and it had nothing but problems. They could never resolve the problems, so I took it to Hutch's. After a while, they recommended I go with a different bike and get a refund. They did not try to hard sell me on one of their bikes at all. I did see one I liked in the store and bought it. Not one issue for over a year. When I did take it in, I was told it is still under the warranty. I can't praise this business enough. They know how to treat customers, work hard to get you back on your bike as soon as possible, and always have a smile for you! They are a 12 on scale of 1-10! read more

I just bought a fat tire recumbent bike elsewhere and we got it to where we are staying and my husband popped the tire . Not stoked as I was so stoked to ride my new bike. Where we bought it was closed for the day and gone, not back till Monday and I did not want to wait so he recommended Hutch's. We were able to get in before closing and get the tire tube replaced so I can have my bike for the weekend. Super helpful and friendly and got us on our way and he showed my husband how to fix it and we ordered a couple for backup in the future. Made zero effort to make a suggestion or cater to us just weird. No help with taking the wheel off and getting it into our car. Same treatment when we came back. Despite some fairly consistent and not exactly fan based reviews I went ahead and tried Hutch's on 3rd. My son had managed to contour the rear rim on his bike. The initial assessment to true up the rim was for a price range and expected to be done in 3-4 days. The following evening Hutch's called that the rim was ready and the cost was just above the lower number quoted. These dudes are pretty sketchy. Took a bike in for the first & last time for a tune up. They charged me for a "safety check." No one yet can explain exactly what that entails. They didn't touch the derailleur, the shifters, the suspension, the wheels or hubs, didn't look at the break pads...nothing. They couldn't even be bothered to lube a bone dry chain! Found this place to rent bikes from when our family decided to go last minute mountain biking. My cousin made bike reservations for 6 adult and 2 kids online on a Friday night while they were closed. We came to pick up our bikes about an hour after they opened on Saturday morning but they were surprised to see us. They weren't prepared for such a big order but they worked diligently to get all 8 of us fitted into our bikes and helmets. There was a minor issue with having 3 families wanting to pay for their own rentals since the reservations were made under 1 name. I didn't understand why this was a problem. Regardless we moved forward with the transaction. We had to sign disclaimer forms and we were on our merry way within 30 minutes. They even gave us free power bars. They even gave us advice on which trails to go to that would be fun for the whole family. Awesome! Returning the bikes was a much quicker process. We dropped them off and that was it. We would definitely rent from them again when we're in town. read more

I would give zero stars if possible. I bought a new specialized bike 2 months ago and since the day I got the bike the brakes have squeaked. Their service department claims I contaminated the brakes and it is my fault and I have to pay them to replace the rotors and pads. I have ridden disc brakes for several years on another specialized bike and have had no issues whatsoever. The service dept told me that just walking out the door I could contaminate the brakes, putting it on a bike rack would contaminate them, riding through a puddle. Then why doesn't everybody's brakes squeak? Do not trust Hutch's bike with your repairs or even to buy a new bike because they will likely assemble it incorrectly. read more

I purchased two new bikes from Hutch's a few years ago (West side) and I'm happy with the purchase. I recently brought a wheel in to see if it could be true'd since it was out of round. It was a slow Sunday (East side) and the mechanics were not busy at all. One looked at it and stated it was not repairable. I went to Sunnyside Sports and they corrected the wheel to probably 95% in 20 minutes for $12 bucks. Versus the price of replacing the wheel, I walked out happy. I've been there twice in the last month I've spent $60 the first time and then 116 the second time and both tires went flat within the course of three days brand new tires brand new tubes and they would not do anything for me the employee actually insulted me his name was Colton and he told me that I wasn't grasping the concept so he need to get a manager for me At that point. Been very happy with the customer service at this shop. Took my bike in for a few basic things (slow dropper post and fork adjustments) and the mechanics were super nice and worked with me to make sure I was happy, and then charged me less than what I was originally quoted because it was an easy job. I had previously taken my bike to another shop in town where they tried to upsell me a new drivetrain (more than $600) that I didn't need when all I asked for was a fork service, so this place was a breath of fresh air. I've been living in Bend for two and a half years. I'm a Specialized bike fan, so Hutch's carries this particular line of bikes. As most of you know, Hutch's has two locations. One in NW and this one on 3rd street. I prefer this one because their customer service is great! Always taking the extra mile to help all sorts of customers, friendly, and they simply make sure you get what you need. Out of all the times I've visited this shop, most of the staff is friendly and ready to help as soon as you enter the shop. However, today's experience was even better by all the help Sean offered. Went to Hutch's seeking a Shimano bottom bracket tool. Was met with baffled, slack-jaw stares, as if I had asked for a Whitworth wrench. The two guys working that day were calling the other Hutch's store to inquire about this rare tool when I left in frustration. This experience was not confidence inspiring. They used to be my goto LBS until I went there for two tubes and three co2 cartridges. $30!!? I swear the guy made the price up. No prices on anything except bikes. I guess I looked like I could afford to be gouged. Two stars because they almost always have what you need. If you must shop there, go to their west-side location. Believe it or not I shop at Gear Peddler now. They dont have everything you want but they try really hard AND they know what a shimano bottom bracket tool is. First and foremost, the bike (high-end Specialized road bike) that I rented was ready, clean, tuned and good to go. That is by far the most important part. But as far as my experience goes, these guys have a long way to go. What I would suggest to these guys is this: cheer up. You don't need to be sullen, surly or disengaged. We had a bike put on hold for my daughter. We were told it was in inventory but needed to be built and we would get a call when it was ready. Well, a week and a half later and no phone call, so I stopped by to check the status. Turns out they sold the bike to someone else without even letting us know it was available. Not only that, they can't even order a replacement. The clerk who "helped" me basically had a "too bad for you" attitude and offered no assistance at all. We have purchased 3 bikes from them over the years but will NEVER give them business again. read more

Some friends and I visited Bend for our annual guys mountain biking trip. We had a great few days of riding and rented bikes from Hutch's. The selection of rental bikes, accessories and gear was great at Hutch's and we found the staff were awesome to deal with. We especially liked meeting Dave and he took the time to give trail recommendations and directions for us. He even invited us on their shop bike ride but we could make it. This is the hands down worst bike shop in central Oregon. I spent about 100 dollars to have my bike fixed and the chain fell off a week later. They didn't even call me to tell me when the work was completed, the staff are clueless and probably don't even know how to ride a bike. Take your business to The Gear Peddler down the street on Greenwood and get quality work for an affordable price instead. I will never set foot in this store again. Terrible read more

This rating is for the service provided by the guy in the repair shop. I initially came in for an accessory for a used bike and the guy suggested I have it looked at since I got my bike used. He allowed me to come into his working area and show me what could use fixing. I ended up replacing the crank, and a front brake. He filled up my tires, and showed me what a flip flop hub was. Something I was not aware with this bike. Over all happy with the service. read more

I took my old bike in to be refurbished. The service guys looked at it and told me it would cost more to repair it than to buy a new bike. They wanted to sell me a bike rather than do the work. I took the bike elsewhere and they gave me a good quote, well worth it, and the bike is being repaired now. It seemed to me that these guys just didn't want to deal with it and would rather just sell me something new, which was not what I wanted. The little gal scoffed at me and grudgingly opened the gate & let me in. She went right over to a salesman while I was browsing and sicced him on me. These guys are great! I've been in 3 or 4 times and from the first I knew this would be my new friendly-neighborhood-bike-shop. Excellent customer service! I have two older bikes and mechanics Joseph, Michael, and Alex answered all my questions and fixed up my bikes for very little money. Yesterday I bought my first clipless pedals and shoes. Alex showed me how the system works and let me practice on a trainer. I felt like I was getting the VIP treatment. Update 10/14/12: Today my dad told me that he twice got a flat and Hutch's fixed it both times, I think for free. My dad is 81 and he doesn't remember the name of the guys who helped him but he's very happy with Hutch's. read more

I called this Hutch's store in Bend to order a jersey we had seen in another location that did not have my size. They had the jersey in stock, but the employee told me she would have to have the manager call me back to take my credit card and address to ship the jersey. I waited several days for a call back and did not get one. I called back and was told I had to wait for the manager to get back from vacation for him to send me the Hutch jersey. Came in to help a friend buy a bike. He found one that he could afford but we left to see what else was available in town... Not much in his price range. I called Hutch's to let them know he was going to buy the bike but couldn't come in until a couple days later. The guy on the phone said it was no problem and would have it set aside for him. No deposit was asked I didn't think to ask. When we came in to buy the bike, "Oh sorry, it got sold." Frustrating. The salesman we worked with this time was able to sell us a more expensive bike with the accessories my friend needed at the maximum of his budget. That was good, but he's on a tight budget and it would have been great had the guy on the phone dotted his t's and crossed his i's (yes, I know that is backwards). Bought a Specialized Stumpjumper here a few years back, service was decent back then. Last few years service has gone down hill. When I need repairs, half the time the guys never write anything down, and then charge for stuff I didn't ask for, or I have to return more than once because repair wasn't done right in first place. Smiles all around from them no matter how many times I have to come back for same problem. I don't have time to keep making trips back and forth when it should be done right the first time. Really frustrating! A fair amount of riding buddies have same experience at Hutches. Great service! Had a tube replaced, went flat. We went back and they discovered the liner was broken and caused the puncture of the new tube. Had the absolute best experience buying a new bicycle from this shop. I'm not really knowledgable on what would be the best fit for what my needs are in a bike, so one of the employee's gave me a breif run down on a good half of the bikes in the store (which is a TON) and listened to my needs and directed me towards a certain style of bike, which in my case was a hybrid commuter/trail bike. After I had finished purchasing the bike and a helmet I was off to ride home, and it was getting kind of dark out. The employee insisted that I get some lights so that I could be seen, and when i argued that it wasn't necessary (Because I was out of money at this point) she gave me a set of fairly expensive lights for free because she didn't want me to get hurt riding in the dark. In preparation for selling the bike I traded to my son for a set of golf clubs, I took my 2007 Specialized Rockhopper Comp into their store for a "check up" and service. The service rep who waited on me was extremely courteous and helpful plus he provided me with some great selling info I needed to list my bike on craigslist and ebay. The turnaround from delivery to service completion was truly fast and they did an excellent job, plus they charged me "$0" dollars for this service since my son bought the bike from their store.
