If you're looking for a home-cooked meal, this is the restaurant for you. There are specials on different days so I would recommend calling to get the special of the day before going. Once you hear the special of the day, then you'll be able to decide what you want before going. Reason: I wouldn't want you to have a taste for something in particular and they not have it when you go there. There are 3 to 5 different specials each day, but on top of that, there are other food options that you can choose from, such as seafood plates and poboys. You can also create a plate. Example: You can get fried chicken, fries, and a salad. If you're a sweet tea lover like me, their sweet tea is a must! I give their sweet tea 10 stars! This is a very casual restaurant. You can order your food to go or you can dine in. I'm always on the go so I only get my food to go. The customer service is great! They're never rude, always friendly and polite. ****This is a cash-only restaurant**** and they are closed on Sundays and Mondays.

This place is a gem! We stopped for lunch after driving around the area seeing if we could find a pick up truck. We are k side the restaurant. The service was great the food was probably the hottest I have ever had. Right off the grill!i highly recommend if you want some great soul food!

Excellent food and service. Everyone so friendly and hospitable. Prices are great too. Don't hesitate to order anything on the menu. We had fried chicken and smothered steak, rice and red beans are best I've ever eaten (except for my own!), cornbread and potato salad. My colleague reluctantly ordered bread pudding, I had a taste, it was great! This place is spotlessly clean too.

Would never have found this place if I hadn't gotten a local recommendation. It's a shabby building by the airport. That doesn't matter. Service suck! The lady that checked me out was HORRIBLE. She was very rude and had a nasty attitude. The rice was mushy rice and stuck together. But everything was ok. I will not be back as long as that lady is at the register.

OMG! The lady at the airport rental car desk recommended this restaurant. She was spot on with this. When we first walked in, we weren't sure if we were in the correct place, but we were greeted immediately and told to take a seat anywhere. Our waitress pleasantly answered all our questions. She was very friendly and helpful. A side salad came with our meal and arrived first. How was this the simplest but best salad we're ever had?? How? The lettuce and tomato were so fresh and good. I still can't believe it was that amazing. And no we weren't starving or famishing when we got here. We ordered catfish and fried chicken dinners to share. Both were seasoned perfectly and cooked well. They rank up there with the best we've had. Even the toast is delicious. Yes. I said it. The toast is delicious. You have to give this restaurant a try. They are a family business who knows the value of great service and great food.

Today's adventure takes us to the outskirts of New Orleans civilization, way way down Airline Highway, just before you hit the airport. To the land of tire shops and used car dealerships and airport parking lots. If you blink you would miss it, a little soul food oasis with a small sign and a few words like SHRIMP ~ FISH ~ OYSTERS ~ DAILY SPECIALS painted on the windows. Hurst restaurant and Seafood has apparently been serving some of the best soul food in New Orleans since 1946. And if you have never heard of it, don't worry, you are not alone. I hadn't either. In an effort to branch out and find hidden gems, I've taken to cruising around strip malls and industrial areas where real people eat. Not tourists or foodies looking for the next Instagram pic (I know I'm guilty of this.) As trite as it sounds, hard working, real people equals real food. That's a universal truth. And I love REAL, homecooked food. A recent article in Garden and the Gun Magazine had profiled Hurst Seafood, and it was stuck in my subconscious. While cruising through Kenner looking for lunch today, the sign caught my eye and I immediately u-turned into the parking lot. I was greeted with so much warmth from the ladies behind the counter inside that I knew instantly that I was in for a special treat. They explained to me the daily specials, the poboy options, and the seafood platters. "Just give me todays special." I said. I put myself into their hands. "You gonna love it, Boo." She smiled back at me. The food landed on my table in less than ten minutes. A large, crispy, chicken fried pork chop. Sweet green peas. Rice and Gravy. That GOOD kinda gravy that they give you a nice hunk of steaming hot cornbread to sop it all up with. No joke. This meal instantaneously transported me back in time to my childhood. My mother was a great cook, and she did so every night. Simple, filling, meat and three meals for a growing boy. This meal at Hurst restaurant was a staple in my moms repertoire. And it quickly made me emotional and nostalgic as any good meal should. I should also note, that this wonderful meal costs only $7.50. Like Seven Dollars fifty cents. Before tax of course. It's safe to say I haven't had a meal this satisfying, for that price, in a very, VERY long time. This is a cash only kinda joint, so be warned, your credit card is useless here. Their hours are 11am-8pm daily. Closed Sundays for church. And if you drop in here and see a guy gnawing every last piece of meat off a chicken fried pork chop and grinning ear to ear in the back? That's probably me....

Soul Food Off The Chain This place will never let you down on flavor or owning up the style of food they serve. Been coming here off and on for years and had never felt that I wasn't given a real home- cooked soul food dish. The dish I got this time was smothered pork neck bones and brown gravy with rice and string beans, side house salad accompanies. The smothered items feature a heavy roux brown gravy with plenty flavor using, for the most part, the less expensive cuts of meat with an unusual twist of home-cooked flavor. I ordered the smothered pork neck dish. The meat on the pork necks fell off the bone and the rice is cooked like I love it--sticky with plenty brown gravy. You have a choice of breads when ordering and I chose the corn bread. Don't pass up this little surprising place.

As a proud native New Orleanian, we tend to be pretty picky when it comes to good home cooked/soul food. I've been coming here for years and they personally have yet to disappoint. My only gripe is the location as it is far way from the city. Fried Chicken and Red Beans are absolutely delicious. The building may not look like much from the outside but trust that if you're looking for a delicious reasonably priced home cooked meal, look no further. Just make sure you have cash as they take CASH ONLY. read more

Visited this location had the red beans and fried chicken it was awesome the beans were cooked the old fashion way and the chicken was golden and delicious.The wife had the Turkey wings with rice she enjoyed it.They have sweet tea only no unsweetened.They offer soft drinks as well the prices are great.Cash only no debit or credit cards.Great food at cheap prices you won't be disappointed! read more

My first time eating at Hurst on Friday, September 13, 2019 and the food was delicious, I live in Baltimore and the people st the LA airport, recommended this place highly. I am going back today. We came here bc my dad recommended and it was delicious. I had the shrimp poboy, my fiancé had Okra, Shrimp, & Crab Stew, my brother had red beans & rice & smothered rbs, sis had fried catfish, & dad smothered ribs & greens. Everything was AMAZING & DELICIOUS. Everything was so good and so worth the drive. It's a mom & pops establishment and they only take CASH, but I promise you won't regret it! Def come out!!! read more

It was pretty good. I expected the fried catfish fillet to be of nice size, but they were relatively small (see them hidden under the fries). However, you can order extra pieces for $3.00 each (I should have ordered extra because I am a big catfish eater.) If you like your fish fried hard, please ask; it is cooked soft. Great prices. Very clean restaurant and restroom. Down-to-earth family establishment. I would like to try other dishes. read more

I like the atmosphere here; it could use some decor but it is an old building. I ordered the fried chicken dinner and the two chicken breasts lacked moisture and were clearly overdone; (be prepared to wait 35-45 minutes for the fried chicken). I've had their fried chicken before and it was extremely good but not sure what happened this time. They daily menu meal deals are from Tuesday-Saturday and they offer a variety of meats like, meatloaf, fried and smothered turkey necks, pork chops and ribs and sides like greens, (mac n cheese only on Tuesday's & Thursday's), potato salad (which is yummy) and red beans and rice (this too was good per my father-in-law); however, he likes smoked meat included in it but they ran out. They also run out of greens fast so you may want to order early. The cornbread is ok but Two Sista's in the East makes the best. The staff are incredibly friendly and the food is plenteous for the price which ranges between $7.00-9.00. The inconsistency I received reflects my rating but I'll definitely revisit and recommend if you're looking for good home cooked southern food. read more

My family and I have been coming here for YEARS, since I was a teenager, and I can honestly say I've never been disappointed. From the po-boys, to the seafood to every plate of soul food I've had here, everything has been absolutely delicious. I'm writing today bc I had the cabbage and baked chicken. I don't eat anyone's smothered cabbage except my mama's and my granny's, and now Hursts's. If ur from SELA, I know u appreciate ur pickled meat in smothered cabbage, I had a taste in every bite, and it was seasoned to perfection. Of course the cornbread and baked leg quarter were tasty as well. If ur in the mood for some delicious food and friendly staff...stop by here. You'll be so happy you did! read more

Ok, Today I got the chance to try the Greens. All I can really say is WOW and Amazingly Delicious. Nobody else should order them though, leaving all for ME. Oh and also had meatloaf too. It has a little spice and was delish also. I am very tempted to eat here every day. read more

Specials change daily. I went on a Wednesday and got the cabbage and neck bones. Neck bones (beef?) were very meaty were fall off the bone tender and finger licking good. The gravy from the neck bones would make a rock taste good. The cabbage was seasoned with smoked smaller neck bones (chicken or turkey?) and very tasty. Rice was good all alone, but with neck bone gravy, it could've been a meal on it's own. The dear sweet people that work there treat you like you were their own child. read more

Wonderful old fashioned southern homecooking from the friendly Hurst family restaurant. Only open from Tuesday thru Saturday, Hurst family goes to church on Sundays, rest on Monday. Each day are four to five different choices and limited everyday selection, so that everything is cooked fresh, which takes time, so be patient and relax. Very reasonable prices, almost everything under ten dollars. Cash only. Will be back with more friends. Airline Drive & Williams, next to McDonalds and across from RaceTrac Gas. Friendly blue collar neighborhood, don't let it scare you. Enjoy the great food! read more

I'd been going to hurst's for over 12 years, the owners attitude has always been bad but the food was so great I could overlook her bitterness. More recently I went back to visit and had a bad experience with the food. My fried shrimp tasted like someone dumped a box of salt on them. I was very disappointed but didn't complain....(I've felt the wrath of a complaint before...even asking a simple question like "is the fish fresh today?" Can get your head ripped right off by the owner...we nick named her "the beast"...lol) I chunked it up to a bad day and promised never to return...that is until I had a taste for fresh louisiana seafood...lmbo!!!...oh, how I compromise my better judgement for good fresh food...anywho, my last trip was again a total disappointment. The service was never much but I can't do nasty food aaaand nasty service....the food is just not the same. It seems commercialized now and you can tell it's imported. It was never that way before. With all that said save your money for a place who will treat you well and who takes credit cards. read more

I'm from Plano texas and I usually go to New Orleans once a year during mardi gras. I NEVER go to New Orleans without stopping here to get a meal or 2 or 3 :). BEST food I have ever had. I dont know how they make their tartar sauce but it's so good I can eat it without the fish. You cant go wrong with what you choose here!!!! read more

The burgers and ribeye steaks here are fairly priced and better than you get at many far fancier and way more expensive restaurants. I've eaten a LOT of steaks and enjoyed plenty of good steak nights around the New Orleans area but the ribeye here is by far one of the best I've had anywhere. The service at the bar and at the tables is quick, friendly and overall just a great experience. This is some of the best bar food I've had anywhere and just one of the best options for a great steak and burger at a great price anywhere. Now if they could just do something about the cancer sticks...

Service was okay. I am willing to give it another try but my first visit definitely could have been better.

Overall, while the appetizers were the highlight of the meal, the entrees, service, and atmosphere left us underwhelmed.

She was very friendly, inviting personality and made you feel welcomed. We started off with drinks and the Hummus appetizer. Never seen a big appetizer like this, it was perfect for 3 even 4 ppl and very good. It was served with warm pita slices. I remember they served cucumber slices upon request, not sure if they still do that. The lunch entrees were Almond chicken salad for my wife. Our friend ordered the Thai rib plate and I had the Crispy duck. As far as I know, my food was excellent, the duck was well cooked and moist. The Thai ribs are usually always good, no doubt that has changed, I stole one of my friends ribs. It went to good use. My wife said the main salad was good, but she feels the chicken itself lacked flavor, but since this is my review, only my opinion matters, lol. The Thai ribs were very good. I love the corn grits and the zea potatoes. For me, I feel this was my best meal I've had all year so far. Would I come back? Heck yeah. You buying? I overall, love the change.
