Purchased 6 lbs of large shrimp here. Fresh gulf shrimp. 50 bucks. wasn't going to judge until breaking them down and inspecting them until I got home. First mistake, improperly bagged, shrimp juice was on my floor board and coming through the bag, and also got on other groceries in my truck. Second mistake, the shrimp were turning amber already and not a white flesh with blue tint and a fresh sweet smell, the shrimp shells were soft, (2 day cell break down) and very smelly. Another insider, once rinsed thoroughly, they began to become slimy, so really he purposely is water logging them, because there going bad, I call them about the shrimp, the lady feels personally attacked, after simply explaining the quality of the shrimp, and that I didn't want my money back, her tone and attitude shifting and I went to stop her and ask her why she's sounding upset, she escalates it, then ends up hanging up on me. I show up, nicely ask for a manager, she immediately expresses negative energy and defends herself hanging up, I say nothing and she gets the man in charge. Long story short I went to explain and show him the shrimp, you can see clear as day, BROWN DIRTY SHRIMP WATER WITH BARELY ANY ICE, to add also the sizes were not all large at all, and contained excess shells I didn't ask to pay for. The guy there in charge proceeds to dismiss me entirely very rude, and even gets hostile stepping into my space inches from me. This is what I get for coming to buy shrimp, havnt been here in a year to buy fresh seafood, and I get zero customer service and a very hostile gm or co owner. What ever he is. What's funny is he has the calls recorded and video, but also threatened to call the cops on me responding to his remarks as I'm getting my money back, but there the victim?? SERIOUSLY PSYCHO PEOPLE.. really am Shocked. Over 15 years in FINE DINING, in New Orleans, never in my life have I been attacked over quality of product. I acted professional and expected the same. If I was such a problem why did the sweet lady trying to give me my refund, HAD TO TELL THE GUY AND THE RUDE MANAGER, to go in the back??? lol literally stuff you can't believe you usually just see on tv. Fisherman's Cove is a small store where you can purchase fresh lobster, shrimp, crab, oyster and other seafood. It is so surprising to me that such a small store, with a large assortment of seafood doesn't have any of that overwhelming fish odor. We got 4 lbs of fresh shrimp. This was only $20.00. We peeled and cooked them at home. Fresh shrimp is so much more tender and soft then frozen shrimp, which is the only option in Connecticut. This is the definition of a hole in the wall place with fantastic food! Don't judge a book by the cover. The place might be dive diner decor but the sea food was 5 star quality! I tried turtle soup here for the first time and I loved it! It was rich and filled with wonderful flavor. I highly recommend it. The waitress was like flow from Alice... just completely down home charm with lots of sass. The shrimp poor boy I had was huge and anything but poor. It was loaded with perfectly cooked fried shrimp and I just could not stop eating it! I wasn't going to finish it but suddenly it was gone and I was stuffed! This place was close to my hotel, so I gave it a try. It's not anything special in my opinion, and I've had better food while in New Orleans. It's not, good or bad, just "meh" or in the middle of the road. The charbroiled oysters were cooked nicely, but there was WAYYYYYYYYYY too much Parmesan. Normally, I don't mind cheese, but Parmesan is salty; it was almost too salty even with removing some of it off the oyster. The lemon cut the saltiness and it turned out to be ok. The bread wasn't needed and tasted a little stale. The boudin balls were good. The outside was crispy and the inside was nice and soft. The tiger sauce was really good. These would've been better had they been fresher. The drink was just ok, nothing memorable. The menu is big so there are lots of other items to choose from. Also, there was a long wait, so maybe the food is good and it was just the items that I selected. It's a decently quick bite if you're just passing by or stay near. read more

We ordered combo of shrimp/catfish basket 3/5. Also, ordered the soft shell crab basket 2/5. I did like the hush puppies 3/5. The side salad 2/5 the lettuce wasn't the best an a huge tomato piece. Before the fire and the expansion the food was top notch. It is now mediocre at best. The gumbo and shrimp Etouffe were lukewarm without the restaurant quality taste they used to have. The potato salad was average. The fried catfish and hush puppies were good enough, but nothing special. The coleslaw was pretty good. I don't know what went wrong. I did business from Dallas in the Kenner, Metairie, New Orleans area for many years. I happened to have a few hours to kill prior to a meeting one day and saw this "hole in the wall" place and decided to try it. WHAT A BLESSING!!! The food there is as authentic, and real Cajun / Creole as you can ever find. I've probably dined there a dozen times or more and EVERY time the food has been incredible and the service great. I've dined at plate five times more expensive but NONE serve food with a better taste! A hidden gem for sure. read more

I was in town for Friday only and stopped by both Fisherman's Cove and the restaurant next door. I must say that I was not only impressed with the appearance of the store but experienced great service. Because of the genuinely helpful employee, I was able to take back lots of treasures to prepare a hardy meal for my family in Florida. She wrapped the glass items carefully and made sure everything was placed snugly in the shipping box. She went the extra mile and for that, she's deserving of praise. She even offered to carry the box to my car. Thank you. I visited the restaurant (next door) and wasn't as impressed (especially when I saw wait staff getting new cups of drinks mixed up with leftover drinks being cleared off the table. That's uncool. The catfish po'boy and sweet potato fries were great though. I don't know if it's the same owners, but there needs to be a better system for the drink station. Also, the customers should never hear discussion about your employee unhappiness with your employer. My rating goes to the seafood side. The price is between $1-2 less than what I've seen Uptown. The shrimp were large. Crawfish are small this early in the season so I can't be mad at 'em. What I can judge is the level of "juice" in the crawfish heads. I hate dry berled (sic) crawfish so I was pleased with all the spicy juice. Exceptional. Memorable. Outstanding. All of these words come to mind and rightfully so. My flightcrew and I were passing through the area on a cross country transit and stopped by New Orleans for the night. Got decent diggs at the Crowne Plaza and was recommended to go to the restaurant adjacent to this place for dinner. We oblige the concierge advice and beat feet to this place - we were some hungry pilots. We are told to hang tight for 15 minutes for a table so my wingman makes a call and I walk over to Fisherman's Cove to pass some time seeing what a fresh fish market in New Orleans looks like. I walk in the door and everyone kinda looks at me. I'm in my flight jacket and obviously from out of town - I do my best disarming smile and wave. I walk up to the displays of crawfish, scallops, crab and other animals and am amazed at how good everything smells. I'm still inhaling the seafood scent through my nostrils when the girl behind the counter - Ally - says 'Hey, you wanna try a crawfish?' I says 'Do I? You asked the right guy!' and she pulls a small amount of paper towel and plops down a piping hot crustacean right there in front of me. I look at her with excitement and utter 'Really?' and she just leans back and says 'Really'. I tear into this little guy and it was mighty fine! She says 'Want another?' I reply ' Do I?' and it went like this back and forth for 5 minutes. My wingman and co-pilot walk in the door and I announce 'Hey fella's, Ally's handing out some mighty good crawfish' and within 2 shakes of seafood seasoning they've got their own steaming fresh crawfish to sample. These things were so good I ordered a 3 lbs box to load up on the aircraft and bring it back to Florida! It's crazy busy most of the time now. The servers are friendly but not necessarily competent. On a recent visit, it took 20 minutes for a server to get our order and bring us water. I tried flagging down a manager with no success. The food is consistently delicious. Prices are reasonable. But, it's a big hassle now to get a table & even get served. Ate there on 8-2-2011. The place was really busy on the night I went. Not much of a seating area. But I liked it , it was cozy. I had a half shrimp/ half catfish po'boy with honey mustard on the side. I almost forgot I also had some onion rings. The po'boy was good and bread wasn't tough at all. The shrimp and the catfish were well seasoned and crispy, not at all greasy. My only complaint is they put pickles on it although I didn't want any. Not a fan of pickle's.The onion rings were good. Everytime, I mean everytime I'm in NOLA, either by car or by plane, I am picking up a care package of goodies from the Seafood Store. I bring home LA Gator Meat, Crawfish, Live Crawfish, Boiled Crawfish, and Sausages of all sorts. They put a 50 LB box of whatever I want, and will pack stuff I have bought from other markets too. They take care of you !!! Whenever crawfish is in season, which is starting now Late Jan through July, I get 5 Lbs to snack on at my hotel room while sipping on a bourbon and ginger. while watching a game or some show. The onion rings are phenomenal and the oyster are sweet depending on the month. The only downfall is the oyster not on ice. Calamari not worth the money so don't order it. The crawfish is a great value but I think they we're dead before it was cooked and was very small. It did hit the spot since we just flew in.
