    craws in a paper bag

Hello crawfish!! Next stop on the New Orleans weekend of non-stop eating. Unlike my first New Orleans trip, I made it in time for crawfish season. Naturally, we picked up way too many pounds of crawfish along with sides (sausages, potatoes, corn) to eat as part of our outdoor feast. (Sal's dining room area is still closed off so takeout only). The crawfish was perfectly seasoned and delicious! So juicy and plump with great flavors. Sausage was good as were the sides. Potatoes were so needed given after a few pounds in, your mouth will need a bit of a break from the seasoning they put on it. Unfortunately the corn was a bit disappointing. Really soggy, overcooked, and tiny. Think it would taste better if they gave it a little more time before throwing it into the plastic bag. Great crawfish dinner though, would definitely by many many more pounds of crawfish here once I've recovered :)

We decided to do a crawfish crawl and order crawfish from several places and Sal's made the list tonight. I have to saw I was fairly satisfied. The price was right and the crawfish were full and seasoned. If you like a little kick then Sal's will do the trick. We only tried the crawfish so I can't tell you about the rest of the food. Out of the 3 places we chose tonight Sal's came in a 2nd. Not because they were bad but because they just did not have the slap ya mamma finger licking goodness.

Came here on February 7, 2020 and they have crawfish whoo hoo!!!!! I expected the crawfish to be pretty small seeing as it was early in the season but they were actually a great size!! They were also a decent price--only $4.50 a lb. I came here and got 20 lbs to-go. Went home and ate them with my family and my mouth was in heaven. Seasoned to perfection, with just the right amount of spice. I don't think I've ever had crawfish from Sal's before this day, but boy was I missing out!

Note stuff is fried in peanut oil! Food was pretty good, no oysters in July. This was a quick trip with the girls

Friendly staff and good food for a reasonable price. Doesn't look like much but it's exactly what I was looking for.

Love this place. The crayfish are perfectly spiced. My favorite place on the Westbank for seafood and a cold beer.

You'd think the staff might still be learning the ropes, but our server was incredible. There wasn't a single moment we needed anything and had to wait. She checked on us multiple times, and we were only there for about 30 minutes. The food came out really fast. The crawfish hit the table in about 3 minutes, and the catfish platter followed about 10 minutes later. Everything was piping hot. The crawfish has a little spice, just enough to taste it but not overpowering. Honestly, if they put any less spice in it, it wouldn't have any at all. I saw some reviews saying it's way too spicy, but those people obviously haven't had truly spicy crawfish. The fries were amazing honestly like homemade Popeyes-style fries. The catfish was fresh and flavorful. I would have liked it fried a little harder, but the menu says it's lightly battered, so it was exactly as advertised. They also had us in and out quickly without ever feeling rushed, which we really appreciated. This is definitely a great spot for families because there's something for everyone. The prices cant be beat! This was our first time trying Lefort's, and we will absolutely be back.

This weekend I went in to buy live crawfish and asked a couple of questions about size, price etc…read moreas any person would. I was getting tripped up on where they came from because I'm just a girl who loves crawfish and I do boil them myself but this just started recently.. So I'm not knowledgeable of how the sizes differ based on where they come from or how dirty or clean they are because to me it doesn't matter but to them it's what they advertise so in the middle of me trying to grasp this concept of the big ones come from the river and the smaller ones come from the pond or where ever they come from I still don't know because I sensed I was bothering her but maybe the lady was getting a little frustrated going back and forth with me on the wording and trying to explain to me while showing me " with a finger point " or a bin of mixed boiled crawfish saying " the ponds are in the front " but literally they were all mixed.. size were all over. I decided on getting the " rivers " as they call them, for me they were the bigger ones.. lol They all eat mud and they'll all be boiled to death and eaten. For one sack of 33 pound for $2.89 my total was $95 and some change, $104 after tax. I asked if they took tap and the lady said yes and than my total was $108 I asked why it went from 95 to 108 she explained to me that the total was $104 and it was taxes but I can see on the register " 104 " and I said no with taxes its 104, she said they charge credit card fees I said that's illegal, she said, " no it's not everybody does it " I said, " that's don't mean it's legal " she pointed at this white paper on the window that said nothing about credit card fees but said something about the right to give discounts for cash paying customers, and she called a manager.. Mind you I wasn't disrespectful just bothered my total went from 104 to 108 with no sign or warning they charge credit card fees until she mentioned it. But when she said they charge credit card fees I looked for an ATM which they didn't have one. So the manager comes over asks what's the issue I said it's illegal to charge credit card fees he said no it's not the company charges them I said what does that have to do with me.. He said if it's a problem I can leave, so I thanked them and I walked out, not saying another word. As I'm walking out he yells something ignorant and told me don't come back. As if I would have come back to a place that don't value their customers, understand that it's free to ask questions and free to be kind to customers, A business that values their customers would have simply said, "we do have the right to charge you up to 4% ( that's the legal limit on credit card fees " but of course he was just as ignorant as I was at the moment .. or he could have said, do you want the crawfish or not? " I didn't mind paying, I probably would have ended up paying the $4 but it's something about spending my money with people who take advantage of consumers just because they can and sometimes I have time to point out that simply " just because everybody does it doesn't make it right " pray on the ignorant and be mad at the people who know you're doing something you have no business doing is wild! I do know it's legal for businesses to charge credit card fees as long as it's presented to the customer and it's a 4% cap on fees because that's what the people who they have their card machine charge them so we both wrong but I wrote this review to shine the light on the fact they don't care about who buys from them, how you feel about them or how hard you work for your money they gone do business regardless and a lot of times people choose to stay away from businesses who don't value their customers. It's something about middle class white folk that act like they have a problem with being questioned and giving a respectful answer and realizing that everybody is not out to prove them as ignorant or less than, but prove to be just that. I spend $190 at the Westwego seafood at capt. Johnathan's lot on great size crawfish at $2.69 a pound and I paid their credit card fee because they didn't mind answering questions because not everyone knows what you know about the product you sell. The lady was patient with me, even found me something to put my crawfish in so they didn't dirty my car.. it's not about what you do it's about how you do it. " it's just $4 " it's my $4 until I choose that I want something bad enough to trade the $4 for a product or service and credit card fees for a business who don't care about me is not a fair trade. I wasn't greeted when I walked in but I always speak and ask the person how their doing, she answered and didn't dismiss the greeting which is why they get 3 stars, and they didn't seem to be like that when I called over the phone earlier that morning, the man I talked to over the phone gave me the address and pricing and shared they had two kinds and two prices. But in person experience was different.

I was gonna give them another try only because they were the only seafood store that had nice…read moregraded live crawfish on Father's Day. Hong Kong Market -- 5…read more Located inside my favorite place on earth... and no, Disney World cannot compete. This is THE best international market in the Greater New Orleans area. Tucked inside is their bánh mì spot--the Vietnamese po-boy--and baby... it's a staple. Open daily, and you'll usually catch the same sweet older woman back there faithfully whipping out sandwiches like clockwork. It's something about that consistency and care that just hits different. They're under new management now and the space got a little upgrade, so I'm not sure if everything is exactly the same menu-wise, but my go-to has always been the one with meatballs--and I ALWAYS add extra pâté. That pâté? Don't skip it. The bread is exactly what it needs to be. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside... not too hard, not too soft. Perfect balance. Prices went up just a little, but honestly? For about $7, you're getting a full, loaded sandwich that eats like a meal and then some. Still one of my favorite quick eats. Every time I'm in there, I'm grabbing one.

This is a vegan paradise, as they have my beloved tofu skin (yuba), soy curls, all the tofu varieties you could ever want and a variety of fake meats, wheat gluten goodies and even vegan jerky. Prices are impressively low. It's been over 10 years since my last review and the market has grown so much. We spent an hour in here today and noticed they have a good sake collection, as well as Asian beers. Boba/tapioca pearls, teas, coffees, spices, desserts... an entire aisle devoted to soup bases, noodles, dried mushrooms! Pinch me, because I think I'm dreaming. I'm in hot chile heaven. There was one thing that my husband wanted that we couldn't find. One of the sweetest ladies at the cash register tried her best to help, even with a slight language barrier we were able to show her the product (dried bonito flakes). She showed him dried squid but that wasn't quite the same thing. I think they have less Japanese products, not really a big deal at all. We so appreciated her kind efforts. Bonus: the cute statue collection by the entrance! Buddhas, lucky cats... even Hello Kitty herself is represented. Consider this market for unique gifts. They even sell Cafe du Monde coffee!
