Went for dinner for the first time. We arrived at 5p so had a short wait which was fine. Nice area to sit in the shade under outside deck. Server was pleasant and our food was good. The smash burgers were fantastic. Others in the party had tuna and wings which were great. The reason for the 3 stars instead of 5 was the noise inside. It was so loud inside we could barely tolerate it. I know it's a bar atmosphere but they need some sort of noise deadening on the ceilings to deal with that. I'll try going again for lunch and see if it is any better. read more

Good gluten free experience! Waitress was very helpful in understand what I could eat and the menu is labeled with GF notes. Fries are battered, so they are not gf. I got the Island Chicken Bowl without the cream to also make it dairy free and it was delicious. read more

Came in for HH and was handed their specials list. $1 tacos, $.20 shrimp and $.40 wings. We ordered beers, shrimp, tacos & wings. The beers were cold, and the shrimp were cooked pretty well. The soft tacos were bland and the wings were disgusting. We had something come up and had to run after about 20 minutes. But then we got the bill. We were charged $1.50 for the tacos and $.40 for the shrimp & wings. I didn't notice the incorrect charges and just paid the tab. The bar was packed and if they made this 'mistake' with half of us, that's a pretty lucrative scam they have going on... Be careful, watch your bill... read more

Awful service. Easily worst I've been too. Food is aight but not worth the headache of waiting for nearly an hour while the crew is too entitled to speak to you. Be prepared to pay for water!! Not only that, but take out boxes are not accessible. You would think you are at Dick's Last Resort with how rude their crew at the bar is. The live guitarist on Sunday was superb! He really took us back to the tropics! Bobbi at the bar was fantastic, friendly, and very accommodating! Started with a key lime margarita - WOW, so amazing - even my beer drinkin mate loved it! Best of all, the food was amazing! The food used to be good, but now it's great! Miss Anne's Chicken Sandwich - WOW -a huge meaty piece of chicken and french fries. If the waiter asks if you want the special cheese topper - the answer should always be YES! It was amazing! We also got the fresh salsa, queso, and chips! WOW! Homemade chips and salsa, what could be better! To end this culinary delight, we chose to get a Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie! My, oh my! Who wants to wait 30 min for good food? Meeee because the wait is totally worth it! We go early usually before or around 5 it was 4:55pm and we waited 30 min but I promise it's worth the wait. It was loud, drinkers at the bar but this is the kinda place that adds excitement while waiting. Service was slow but friendly. It's very busy get in early because those happy hour specials were amazing. Tacos and Wings were a hit with the family. Pina molada was delish. Food was cooked to perfection for me I'm a burger girl and this was hands down the BEST!!! Hubby loved his too and kids all said great! With our stay this was our favorite place. We had to wait a good while to get seated but their upper outdoor bar area was pretty empty and it was a great spot to chill and have a drink. The food was good especially the appetizers. Hurricane Mo's was the first place i stopped at on my vacation and it was meh at best. For 25 dollars the seafood platter is mediocre. Nothing special and everything tastes the same, the fries were very mid and the whole meal itself was very unfilling. My waitress also tried memorizing my order and mixed multiple things up. There was also a lot of drunk people there and made it awakened for my family. But you expect that at a bar so i'm not taking points off for that. The coleslaw was absolutely ass and shouldn't be ordered. Id pass if looking for a spot in OBX to have dinner just based off the price and not only the quantity but quality of food. read more

Hot wings were good but really on the small side. My CocoMo Mahi was over cooked and tough. My daughters butter noodles came with half a stick of butter on it and she was not a fan. We are local so we go here a lot. Love the casual beach ambiance. On Tuesday, it was so nice out, so we went up to the Cat 5 Bar to eat and were able to snag 3 seats at the bar. Love the view from the roof top bar (and the kitty cats that they care for down below). Service was quick; the bar tender friendly and entertaining. I usually order the fish tacos which are good, but decided to get the Coco Mo Mahi Bowl. It was outstanding, moist and flavorful. Other food ordered where the shrimp dinner and a burger. Also good. I had a Mahi Mahi sandwich some kind of cheese and onion topping. My husband had grilled Mahi with mango. Unfortunately nothing special. Pretty bland. May be a fun hangout and drink spot. While traveling through the area, stopped in for a bite to eat and by coincidence landed at the bar during happy hour. Friendly enough folks, decent enough service, cheap eats, basic drink menu. Had tacos - minimal taco bell like hard shell tacos for a buck that you can bulk up with additional ingredients for extra quarters. My biggest problem was the peel 'n eat shrimp. 25 cents each but *uncleaned*. I. just. can't. I'd pay double that if you'd just take the time to clean them or purchase pre-cleaned shrimp. Everyone was gulping down all that steamed shrimp poo without a second thought, while I ate tacos and my S.O. cut open and cleaned each one before eating. :( read more

I think the off-season is a good time to patronize Hurricane Mo's. We were told it is a zoo during the high season and I believe it. In mid-October, we had a pleasant lunch and the place was not slammed. They are open year-round, so for those of you who are coming to the Banks in the off-season this place is a decent one to remember. We were trying to keep it a little bit light so each had a cup of their crab soup and split a platter of fried shrimp. The crab soup is highly rated but we do not agree. It relies on flour to thicken it to a paste. This is an artificial way to try to make a soup seem rich. Flavor was OK, not remarkable, very mild. We both recommend the Seafood Chowder at Lucky 12 or Crab Bisque at South Beach Grill, which is creamy, not pasty. The platter of eight fried shrimp were accompanied by slaw and fries. The fries are the kind that are coated with the non-nutritive potato varnish. Ms T likes them for that crispness. I have pretty much quit eating fries so it did not matter to me, but they are not the style I prefer. You have a choice of Southern or Asian slaw. We have had a lot of Southern slaw lately and most of it has been mediocre, so we opted for the Asian version even though we were told both kinds have onion. It turned out to be a good choice, with a soy and sesame oil dressing with some vinegar. The onion was green onion and was not overdone. Even Ms T liked it and onion is anathema to her. Hurricane Mo's has a small craft beer list, but not zero. I kind of think this is a place for Corona drinkers. The food we had was fine, not remarkable. I would not go here specifically for the crab soup, but in general I don't think you will go wrong with the seafood. They feature a lot of local catch as well as some from other waters. read more

Stopped in on a weeknight evening for dinner. It was busy, but with two us we were able to snag a table. Our waitress was friendly and prompt. To start off with I ordered a margarita. It had a unique twist and was strong, just the way I like it! Then for an appetizer we ordered some spiced steam shrimp. It was fresh and delicious, with a bit of a kick. Then for dinner I ordered the crab cakes. These unfortunately left a lot to be desired. They didn't have great taste and there seemed to be a little amount of crab. Just an A-OK experience, IMHO. We came here years ago for the first time, even before Triple D and Guy visited the place. My dad fell in love with the she-crab soup and literally raves about it randomly to this day. We've stayed in Avon the past several years we've come to the OBX and this is too far of a hike for dinner, but we stayed in Duck this year and came one night. The wait was about an hour for 6, but the porch bar upstairs was good for some drinks while we waited. Most of us started with the she-crab and while I liked it plenty, my dad said it wasn't hot enough and he felt like he was eating pudding. He also got some pieces of shell, and I did too but I feel like that's a given. For dinners, my husband and I got two of the mahi specials. Mine had balsamic and goat cheese and his had mango salsa and other vegis. The black beans are seasoned well with a little kick and I love the coconut rice so much I've tried to recreate it at home, but it's never quite as good. My mom and dad had variations of the fried seafood plates. My brother had the tuna steak and it came with two large pieces, I was surprised. He ordered it medium though and it was over cooked which drastically changes the taste and texture of tuna, so he was a little disappointed. My sister in law had a steak and green beans and it came cooked how she requested so she was pleased. We were all a little weary when our waitress took the orders of 6 people, appetizers and drinks included, and didn't write a thing down. But everything came out correctly so she clearly has the waitressing heavy crowds thing down, always impressive. I'd come back year after year for the fun atmosphere and good food. read more

OK, so the GPS gives you the wrong location. But you can not miss this place when in Kitty Hawk. Just a hop, skip and a jump from the beach. Excellent friendly service and good food to boot. Great atmosphere! It was what drew me in actually. After seeing pictures here on Yelp and reading a review about the Caesar Salad with Pan seared scallops, I just had to try out this place. It did not disappoint. Seating wait time was about an hour but we found space at the bar and dove in. The two bartenders were friendly and on top of service. I ordered a Bloody Mary, they use ZingZang, it was delicious! So was the Caesar Salad, pure enjoyment. The crowd at the bar was welcoming. It was nice to sit and chat with others for a bit. read more
