Doing business with this company made me feel dirty and more than a little scammed. Needed an HVAC system replacement on a rental property and was connected with them by our property manager. The quote was reasonable and Anthony was knowledgeable and responsive when discussing the job. I was told they offer financing through Synchrony, but could not get any meaningful details beyond this. I found the accounting manager Venus to be unhelpful and rude. She sent a link to a Synchrony application and when I asked about details of what the application was for she said that financing options would be sent once the application was in. My fault for believing this, but I bit the bullet and filled it out. Turns out it was for a 27% APR credit card that according to Synchrony has arrived but that I did not ever receive in the mail. Thanks Hurn for the credit hit and fraud risk. On top of the job they threw in a ticky-tack thermostat charge after claiming moving the thermostat would be at no additional cost. On the positive side, the physical doers of the job were great. The installation itself looks clean and the system should last long enough that I won't have to interact with this business again. read more

Terrible service. They double booked my initial appointment to diagnose my HVAC and had to reschedule for the following day. They then diagnosed my Hvac and scheduled an appointment 2.5 weeks later. Was told that they were working with my HOA to turn the water off for the appointment. This morning I was told that they never actually scheduled the water to be shut off. Never reached out to me about it. They had over 2 weeks to get it scheduled with my HOA or reach out to me to get it scheduled. Now I need to be rescheduled again. Would definitely look elsewhere. Hurn just completed a removal of my old central heater, replacing it with a heat pump and they added air conditioning. They did the job quickly and professionally at a very fair price. They ensured the work space was clean and they were careful not to cause any damage to property. They did not try to sell me on extra equipment that I did not need. One of the sensors went bad the night after the install. They were here the next day to troubleshoot and repair the system. After replacing the bad part they checked and rechecked the system. Our AC broke down during a rare San Diego heat wave. We called Hurn Mechanical and their HVAC tech, Chris, came out earlier than expected, which worked out well for me as I thought I had to cancel a work appt. I'd rather get painful dental work than deal with home repairs but Chris was great. Very honest and diagnosed the problem - a broken actuator lid - in a way that was easy to understand. One year ago, Hurn Mechanical installed a York HVAC. The past year has been fantastic. Last summer my heating bills were lower and the AC worked flawlessly. This year I scheduled an annual checkup before summer. No repairs or adjustments were needed. They went to my property to diagnose AC problem. They said it was a thermostat that needed to be replaced. They said that they would replace it for $368. They are insane. No thanks. I bought a Nest thermostat and installed myself for under $100. They wanted to install a crappy thermostat for $368, which takes no more than 10 minutes to install. Plus they want $199 for just going out to the property, even if they do nothing. So that's $567 they wanted for a simple 10 minute job of installing a thermostat. These prices are obscene. You can find HVAC guys that are reasonably priced and don't gouge you just to visit your property. AVOID Hurn. read more

Needed to have my HVAC unit serviced so I called Hurn Mechanical. Their rep was very sweet and got me scheduled really quickly. Alan came out to complete the service. He was great. He arrived on time, was so friendly, told me exactly what he was doing and completed the service quickly. We called Hurn for our annual preventative maintenance (PM) of our HVAC system. We were very pleased with them from the get go. Josh was here on time and was very pleasant. We were initially impressed when he asked if he should wear booties when he entered, which was very respectable to our home. His inspection was very thorough, and he thoroughly explained what he was doing, which was much more than we expected. We have an older system and he gave us peace of mind that we will get some more life out of our system with some minor cleaning. He did not try to talk us into unnecessary work or even a new system, and their pricing was of very good value. Scheduled an estimate for an install of a Stove Hood Vent. The venting is already in place, it was just a service request for a new appliance install. It has been over a week and I have yet to have an estimate. And I have called twice to follow up - 3 days after initial site visit, and a week after. So if that is how they handle prospective clients. Good luck getting the work done. Should be a fast install and what I would image for a Heating/Air trade, this would be a straightforward labor estimate. Nothing custom. Hurn Mechanical just finished a complex job in a condominium for my wife and I. The HVAC is a water-source heat pump. A 3-ton climate master was installed and about 50 linear feet of plastic pipes were upgraded to steel inside of our unit. They also installed shut-off valves at three different places for our convenience and for any future work and/or maintenance requirements. They did a great job. Highly recommended. read more

I finally got around to scheduling some preventative maintenance to my furnace/AC system. Hurn had sent out mailers for discounted check-up service so decided to take them up on it. Their rep, Brad, clearly knew what was he doing, was very knowledgeable and professional. He was in and out quickly and efficiently and gave me very good explanations of how my system works and steps I could do on my own to keep it running smoothly. Purchased a downtown San Diego condo. Realtor paid for HVAC service (definitely not Hurn), figured I was set. Nope. First time I used the unit, months later, I wake up to water dripping from the A/C access panel in the ceiling, place isn't that cool. Bad news. Next day I asked the building engineer and he recommended Hurn. Said other residents use them. Well, he just earned a nice gift at Christmas. The tech, Alan, not only solved the leak but he put on his detective cap and discovered a monkey-rigged part that was basically a ticking time bomb. A deformed PVC elbow (HVAC malpractice; my term, not Alan's, he didn't point fingers) that appears to have been partly melted by a plumbing torch required a second visit with THE RIGHT PART. Hurn's scheduling coordinator called the same day as the first visit and set up a return. Even better, she called back after a cancellation and got me in earlier. Alan was knowledgeable, efficient, took great care. His assistant Tabin, same. I don't think I'll be needing them anytime soon thanks to their fine work but if something goes wrong I'll know who to call. Went the extra mile. read more

As an update.... After being made aware of the situation, the owner's of the business made it right. I am giving them more stars for at least listening to the problem, owning it, and offering a workable solution. There's a lot to be said for a business that says "yup, we messed up, here's what we're gonna do to make it right". I'm still skeptical about their initial visit and their diagnosis but based on more information I have received it looks like some of this was on my property management company (who actually asked for the bid to replace the heater). Ultimately the other company I called gave me a bid for 50% of what the bid from Hurn was so I would say that I won't necessarily call Hurn first the next time I need something done but based on what's gone on over the past day, I would give them another shot at a competitive bid. read more

I can not say enough about this company!!! They went above and beyond to figure out why are AC wasn't working. Worked until the wee hours of the night/early am, to make sure everything was taken care of to the best of their ability. Highly recommend this place. Clearly a family owned business who hires the right people! I have a water source heat pump Carrier unit and it would stop blowing cool after a few minutes. Called these guys up on a Wednesday and they were able to squeeze me in the following day. My technician, Alan, arrived promptly and he was really cool. He's really personable and we had good conversation about 1966 Batman while he worked. He checked my unit to see if it needed a Freon recharge, that didn't seem to be the problem. He looked inside the unit and saw water was filling up the drain and not draining properly. The water-filled drain pan was tripping a security fail safe meant to stop the AC from functioning of the pan got too filled so your place doesn't flood. Alan vacuumed out the water, leveled by AC unit so it would drain properly, then checked it for proper drainage. He also put these tablets in the pan to help dissolve the build of mold or algae in the pan. Overall cost seemed like a great value. $110.00 for the first hour and then $45 per half hour or fraction thereof. They have definitely earned my future business. read more

My condo A/C unit was no longer putting out cold air, so I called Hurn because I frequently see them working on my downtown building. I was happy with the attitude and promptness of everyone I interacted with, and their service tech was even early to our appointment. I'm giving only a 2-star review though because I feel swindled on the work that was done. Justin, the service tech who handled my appointment, pinpointed the problem immediately and told me it would take a replacement part on the roof of my building to fix. And guess what? The part normally goes for $120 but he'll give me a deal for only $100 (on top of the $110 I'm already paying for the 90 minute minimum service call). Well, Ok, go ahead and put that in. Turns out its a $10 part on Amazon. No joke. So you can imagine that Hurn is likely buying in bulk at even less than I can get on Amazon, meaning this is pure markup, ON TOP OF THE LABOR CHARGE! I wonder, do the technicians get to pocket whatever the parts markup is? Is this a standard "sell" to customers? I think I'm in the wrong business. For anyone reading this review, check that your "dual run capacitor" needs to be replaced, if so you can buy a "Titan Pro" capacitor of the right rating and plug it in yourself, saving boatloads of money. read more
