Tried this spot while in Savannah a few weeks ago. I needed a vegan dinner option and this spot came up on Yelp. Wow the oyster mushrooms were awesome, we tried the mushrooms and broccolini as well. it's a small spot but plenty of customers seem to frequent the spot . They had great reviews and we we met the owner who was super nice and accommodating. You know had to be good when all the main dishes were sold out for the day. When in Savannah and you want a meatless meal that has flavor give them a try.

Review By SoldByMarvin.com Just wrapped a weekend in Savannah and had to put y'all on to The Hungry Vegan. Listen, if you ever find yourself down in the Hostess City -- tired of salads that taste like punishment -- do yourself a favor and pull up. Now you already know I roll with a plant-based squad, and this spot? Hit all the right notes. No fluff, just flavorful food that'll make even your most skeptical uncle say, "Wait, this vegan?!" We had the Big Vegan Soul plate with oyster mushrooms and the Mac & Cheese -- and let me tell you, it didn't taste like a "meatless version" of anything. It just tasted good. Seasoned right, cooked fresh, and served by folks who clearly love what they do. The vibe? Chill. Local. Black-owned. And if you know me, you know I'm always rooting for businesses that look like us and feed us right. So if you're ever in Savannah doing a quick getaway, showing homes, or just vibing with your people -- make this a stop. You'll leave full, happy, and maybe even inspired to turn your lifestyle into a legacy. The Hungry Vegan @SoldByMarvin-approved Support local, eat intentional

Mac n cheese and oyster mushrooms!

This place was unassuming, but the food was delicious! I am so happy I went there. Staff were down to earth and friendly and food was worth the drive.

The food here is amazing. It doesn't take all day to get your food either. The prices are very good considering it's vegan. Also the staff are very friendly and helpful. The good has a lot of flavor and you can taste the freshness of the vegetables. The restaurant is clean and they have a 100 sanitation score on the wall. This is my go to spot for something quick and vegan.

Found this gem on Happy Cow. The food is fantastic authentic soul food. Love the food, love the people both customers and staff. Everyone enjoys the food and atmosphere so much that it strikes up great conversations with all. Enjoyed eating there each week while we were on vacation. We entered as customers and left as friends. Will dearly be miss until we return.

What was not to love? I'm not plant based but the food was chef's kiss. Everything was seasoned to perfection and the portions were incredible. I indulged myself in the collards, black eyed peas, mac and cheese (even ordered some to go) and the fried mushroom (yes please). The ladies there make you feel welcomed and it feels more like being invited to dinner than a restaurant. Hungry Vegan exceeded my expectations 100 times over. Ohhhh and how did I forget the peach cobbler?! Looking forward to my next visit.

Vegan Loaf (taste like actual meat loaf and better....how they did that blows me away). Got a side of mac, tomato/okra.

I'm not vegan, but this is easily the best vegan food I've ever had. I do love soul food and this place exceeded expectations. Perfect amount of flavor and soul. I got the vegan loaf and my goodness.....it was amazing...possibly the best thing I've tasted in a while....it really tasted like meat loaf. The sides were incredible and I felt great and full after eating. Made me think about turning vegan lol. The ladies at the front were super sweet. And inside was very clean.

They say the best things are found off the beaten path. This, too, can be said about this gem of a place! Hungry Vegan has always been on my "to go to" places to eat, but life is always happening. Today I was fortunate to be less than a couple miles from the establishment and decided to take a ride to visit the restaurant. The outside reminds me of a house turned I to a restaurant, so I was already getting mom and pop shop vibes, but not on the level of hole in the wall die to esthetics being presentable and pleasing to the eye. Inside it was the same, portraits and artwork cascade the inside which gives you a visual while waiting in line. I was greeted by a beautiful sista who had opened the door with a warm smile. She explained the special which was Salisbury steak (vegan) with several sides and cornbread. I opted for something light due to my upcoming gym session. I went for the Cauliflower and fries, along with some cornbread and a sweet tea. From the moment I opened my food tray, the aroma was pleasing. The Cauliflower wasn't greasy even though it was fried. The batter was wonderful, posing a light, but well seasoned flavor and texture. The Crunch mixed with a semi soft I terror from the first bite was amazing. Add the homemade BBQ sauce and you have a winner in any given day. The cornbread was light and airy. It had a light sweetness to it Which was very unexpected but enjoyable. If I could make one critique, would be to serve it warm instead of cold. I also received a vegan cookie. I didn't really enjoy the cookie, but it's not to say that It was bad. I think the aftertaste is what lacked in the convincing area. Needless to say, I'm a fan, and will definitely visit in the future!!

Delicious Vegan Soul Food! While visiting my daughter in Savannah, I wanted to try some vegan soul food. It's really hard to find any vegan restaurants here but this was a great find. It's a small, homey place with great service and amazing food. I will definitely recommend and will return.

Visited while on vacation. Hands down some of the best vegan mac and cheese I've had in 19 years of being vegan. The okra and greens were also delicious and so was the spaghetti. It was all delicious! The 2 women there were so friendly and helpful with answering questions. They do charge for the dipping sauces for their mains, the sauce was about $1 or so. Maybe it should be included in the meal cost but I guess some people don't get any sauce and it's all homemade so I can understand but was just surprised. We ordered the fried oyster mushrooms and the fried cauliflower. Each comes with a choice of 3 sides and a piece of cornbread. We got the buffalo sauce and were warned it's spicy, it did have some heat for sure but I loved it. Would definitely order it again. They're only open until 6pm and are closed 3 days a week otherwise we would have eaten here more than once while in town. If you're vegan and you're in Savannah this is a must stop.

On Friday, February 16th, around 2 pm, I embarked on a culinary adventure, braving the sketchy neighborhood for the third time. Despite the shady vibes, my hunger prevailed. Customer service: 2/10 The cashier's demeanor could scare off any potential customers. Very unprofessional! I was sized up and down while trying to order. Her eagerness to charge you should be the same in her personality to serve customers. I paid the same amount on my last visit and received a lot more than I did on this visit. On the last visit, I order BBQ and Buffalo in which I was given a ranch instead of Buffalo, which isn't ok when you're paying $1.20 for it. This visit, it was the same exact thing; I order two BBQ sauce and received one BBQ and the other Buffalo. I would've kept the Buffalo and let it go, but this is the second time. That's isn't what I spent money on. I tried to make the cashier aware of the mistake, instead she tried to convince me that I had BBQ sauce. I told her, "I don't know how BBQ taste like hot sauce" and which she replied with given me the BBQ sauce. The owner really needs to invest in receipts, bubbly cashier, parchment paper, itemized pos system or order pad; that way the mistake isn't repeating. These things we're taught in culinary arts school which is the basic. This is coming from a loving place as an owner and culinary chef. Much love Food: Fried Oyster mushrooms: 6/10 The oyster mushrooms looked like crispy golden nuggets of promise, but alas, they were swimming in more oil than a frying pan at a greasy spoon diner. Where was the parchment paper lifeguard when you needed one? French fries: 4/10 These fries seemed like they had been through more reheats than a B-list actor's career. They were oilier than a politician's handshake and about as appetizing as a rubber tire in a salad. Lima beans: 8/10 A shining beacon of enjoyment amidst the culinary chaos. These lima beans were a delightful oasis in the desert of disappointment. Collard greens: 6/10 Tasted like they were straight out of a can, with enough seasoning to make even a salt shaker blush. The addition of a few mushrooms was like sprinkling fairy dust on a garden gnome--nice try, but the magic fell short. Cornbread: 4/10 This cornbread was as bland as a beige wallpaper sample, with just a whisper of cornmeal to remind you that it wasn't a forgotten coaster from the 80s. Vegan cornbread can be a culinary masterpiece, but this was more like a culinary misdemeanor. Rice: 5/10 Tasted like it had taken a shortcut through the microwave. Pre-boiled rice might be convenient, but it lacks the soul of rice cooked with love and care. I spent $41.90 and didn't get a smile or receipt. I only know the total from my bank notification. This restaurant have the potential, it needs work.

Whoa, this is amazing food. Stopped off during a multi-state road-trip after searching "vegan restaurant" on Maps. Little ways off 95 and when I saw the train yards and factories I was worried gps was trolling me, but then it appeared like a vision: a pretty vegan restaurant the dimension of a small house. Wonderful vegan soul food served hot and w love. Simple illustrations of animals (bunny-rabbits, cows, pigs, chickens, sheep) existing peacefully, decorate the pale pink walls. Comfortable little tables and chairs. Clean restroom. Everyone who comes thru the door is greeted with a warm "welcome" from staff. The wait for anything not immediately available at the counter, is reasonably brief, the food is INCREDIBLE. Highly recommend the barbecue cauliflower wings. I'm so happy we stopped in. YES VEGAN YES kid friendly

Looking back, we probably should've kept right on walking. We ordered the fried chicken, potato wedges, red rice, New Orleans rice, and cabbage, jalapeno cornbread and pecan cornbread. Unfortunately, the only things we actually enjoyed were the fried chicken and the potato wedges. Once again, it was an epic fail. The cabbage tasted like it had been boiled in plain water with absolutely no seasoning. Both the red rice and the New Orleans rice reminded us of Minute Rice or Uncle Ben's microwavable rice--bland, lacking flavor, and nothing like the rich, seasoned rice dishes we were expecting. The fried chicken was crispy, juicy, and well-seasoned, and the potato wedges were cooked perfectly, but those two items weren't enough to save the meal. We came hoping for authentic Southern comfort food, but left disappointed. Sadly, this is one restaurant we won't be adding to our list of places to revisit.

That search led me to The Olde Pink House--a magnificent historic mansion dating back to 1771, now home to one of Savannah's most memorable restaurants. The décor is beautiful, with antique furnishings, fireplaces, elegant woodwork, chandeliers, and enough historical character to make any ghost hunter feel immediately at home. The building is surprisingly large, with numerous dining rooms, each decorated and arranged differently. Exploring it feels almost like wandering through a well-preserved haunted mansion--though thankfully, the staff were much friendlier than the ghosts I had recently captured. The food was excellent, and everyone in our party enjoyed what they ordered. I'm not usually much of a beer drinker, but I tried the Hostess City, a craft beer brewed exclusively for The Olde Pink House, and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. Our server was wonderful, and we were even able to exchange ghost stories with them. We all had a good laugh, although I'm fairly certain one of the portraits nearby was laughing along with us. We arrived dressed entirely in black, and not a single person batted an eye. In Savannah, this is apparently considered perfectly respectable evening attire--or perhaps everyone simply assumed we were attending a funeral for one of the restless dead. After dinner, we asked whether we could explore the other sections of the restaurant, and we were told it would be no problem. We were able to visit the different dining rooms and examine the antiques and objects respectfully without disturbing the other guests. Be sure to visit the bar downstairs, Planters Tavern. It has a wonderfully haunted atmosphere, with brick walls, old-world décor, and a beautiful fireplace that must be especially inviting during the winter months. The basement's fireplaces were reportedly part of the home's original kitchen, which only adds to the feeling that the room remembers far more than it lets on. The Olde Pink House offers excellent food, beautiful surroundings, friendly service, and just enough supernatural atmosphere to keep a ghost hunter interested. I arrived looking for somewhere to recover from the night's haunting. I left well fed, pleasantly spirits-laden, and only mildly concerned that one of the ghosts may have followed me home.

There were a good number of shrimp in the serving. The Crab Cake Sandwich was good. It was not as full of lump crab meat as other crab cakes that we've had elsewhere. The Catfish Fingers were large pieces of catfish that were lightly fried. The Shrimp Poboy was satisfying. The Parmesan Garlic Grits were disappointing.
