Went there with my mother's old lady social club. It was a party of probably 20. Server got all the orders right and she hustled. I don't often order a lot of Chinese, especially for delivery. The food arrived quickly probably 10 minutes easily before the estimate, and so hot I would swear it left the pan a few moments before. I had the Mongolian beef, it was excellent, flavorful yet without a heavy cloying sauce , just enough to provide moisture and flavor, my wife had Egg Drop soup and Szechuan Chicken , she absolutely loved it. Our go-to for carry out or delivery. In general with Chinese food, the quality and consistency is hit or miss. I believe it stems from the constant turnover with the kitchen staff. I advised them that per the definition of chow mein it is " a Chinese-style dish of fried noodles with shredded meat or seafood and vegetables" and that I've never been served chow mein with rice... We lack good Chinese food in this area delivery or carry out. We have gone here for carry out a few times usually to get our teenage son General Tso's while the rest of the family gets Kanjana Thai food (which is very good). On this Sunday for ease of convenience we all ordered from Hunan Taste- my husband gets the Kung Pao chicken which was okay, my daughter got lemon chicken which was essentially some gristly chicken nuggets with lemon sauce, my son got General Tso's which he has the palate of a 16 year old boy filling the hole, not to mention the breading is 3/4 to 1/4 ratio chicken, and I tried the Phoenix chicken which was soso but kind of oily for white chicken breast in sauce, not the most flavorful. The kicker is we ordered fried wontons which were burned. Really? If the restaurant was packed and they had a line for carry out I could at least think they were so busy etc... However there was not a soul dining in which is the norm the other times I have picked up for my son. Tell tale sign- anyway the wontons literally shattered everywhere when you bit into them. It was obvious ... and they could not throw a new batch in the fryer? The whole $3.95 which was probably more like $1.00 cost to them! Won't be going back. read more

My husband and I have been skeptical to try this place, as we have had very experiences with local Chinese food places, but I'm really glad my husband decided to give them a try. We just moved to Lorton and had yet to find a good Chinese place nearby, and struck out at least 4-5 times, but we have finally found our spot! The food is always hot. I love the Kung Pao chicken! This food is amazing. I recently moved to the area and I've ordered from here twice. The menu has plenty of great options for everyone in the household. My son loves the BBQ spare ribs, the wings which are flavorful and taste fresh, and he loves the pork fried rice. All are great options , I decided on the Kung pao chicken and chicken with broccoli. Rude staff. Their menu is unavailable online so I called trying to order off memory from what I ordered the last time (it had been several months since I ate here last) and asked for crunchy chicken. Lady on the phone repeated "crunchy chicken okay" back to me. I pick up my order and when I get home, open up my bag to find cashew chicken. I call back thinking it's a mistake, the woman on the phone is very curt with me and says there's no such thing on the menu as crunchy chicken so she just gave me cashew instead. If it wasn't on the menu why would you let me order it? She didn't offer any sort of refund or exchange. Just said "we don't have crunchy chicken. sorry if you ordered something that's not on the menu." Extremely annoyed and will not be returning. We've been going here for over 30 years and have generally been happy with the food. We noticed a few years ago that the quality of the dishes has diminished. I ordered Moo Goo Gai Pan a few months ago and it had nothing but chicken and some snow peas. When I called to complain, the lady said that they had run out of the rest of the ingredients. Pretty sad, given that there is a Giant Food in the same shopping center! It would also be nice if they would state what is in the dish rather than just showing a picture. Some of the dishes are pretty straight forward, but some, not so much. Last night I ordered the chicken and eggplant. Very good, but did not realize that it had onions in it. Again, no way to know this from the picture, and I did not think to specify 'no onions.' To their credit, I ordered my dish specifying 'no salt or MSG' and I could tell that they did't put it in. There's enough in the soy sauce they use. Given that it is the only decent Chinese restaurant near us, we'll continue to patronize them, but not often. read more

We've lived in the Newington Forest area for 36 years. We began eating at Hunan Taste from the time it opened until present day. We have always had the best service and the food is awesome. HOWEVER, for the past two weekends, we've been unable to get in touch for delivery. We've been calling for delivery almost as long as they have been in business. I've never had them not answer. Now, after 36 years, I have to say, I'm done. As sad as it is, we'll have to find another restaurant to start going to for delivery. I hate that but it is what it is. So disappointed. read more

I had the Szechuan chicken combination platter which included my choice of steamed rice, egg roll, and hot and sour soup. Rice is steamed perfectly, the egg roll is freshly made (very crispy), and the hot and sour soup is spot on. The Szechuan chicken has a nice spicy kick but not too spicy. I love the thinly sliced celery & carrots and the chicken is sliced/cooked perfectly. The portion is large and I ended up saving half of it for lunch tomorrow. I ordered my food informing the server that I wanted no meat just veggies and rice. Again, reinforced I'm vegan just veggies and rice. When my food came out with egg - I let him know I can't eat egg, he got really defensive and told me I didn't tell him no egg. He was combative and and totally unpleasant. I've dined in and ordered take-out from this place several times & never had any complaints. Lately, the service & quality has gone down hill. After a long day of work, I didn't feel like cooking so I ordered take-out for my husband. I called ahead and requested two entrees and two appetizers. One of the entrees I ordered was the Shrimp Chow Mein. Ummm.... Why were there no noodles in it? NOT EVEN ONE?? It was basically a soupy hot mess of onions and a few shrimp. So basically they wasted my time. I drove back just to return that hot mess. Then the lady argued with my husband and said the noodles were in the bag. Ummm no they weren't! I've had my share of authentic chinese food to bottom of the barrel takeout to panda express and pf changs. This place serves a mean sesame/general chicken and the portions are hearty delicious and huge. They get the hot and sour soup right too. I base authenticity on the quality of the hot and sour soup as a benchmark. The quality & price can't be beat. And it doesnt leave you regretting what you ate. I would definitely come again. Don't be afraid to check this place out. The mom and pop shops are a dying breed so help support them! On a side note some people said the decor is dated but I don't eat decor so I'm unaffected by that, unlike other restauranteurs. I could care less about the decor if the food is good- which it is. All I can say about this restaurant is that the food is great, the service is wonderful, and the staff is not only helpful, they actively engage to suggest dishes that meet my dietary constraints and that I might like! I have Celiac disease. As such I must limit myself to gluten free food. Because so much of Chinese cuisine is based on frying food with wheat and sauces that contain wheat, it is very difficult to find a Chinese restaurant that offers gluten free food. I found this restaurant on Yelp by reading the review posted by the owner's daughter. She posted that the chefs would be able to accommodate dietary restrictions. While I was optimistic when I read the review, I waited to pass judgement until I tried it. The food was wonderful. While some items were still "off limits" (egg rolls, for example) most items on the menu could be tailored to eliminate wheat. In addition, my wife gets migraines from MSG. They were able to eliminate MSG as well. I love the General Tso's chicken, Chicken or Bean Curd with Black Bean Sauce, Bangkok Curry Rice Noodles and Cashew Shrimp. My wife sticks to the Moo Shi Vegetables and Hot and Sour Soup. I'm looking forward to trying the Chow Foon next time I stop by.
