At last! A Chinese place in the Lorton area that does steamed dumplings right! I moved here a couple years ago and it took me this long to find this great place. Of course, I tried so many different places, but nothing ever satisfied me. I was lucky enough to stumble across it on my iPad. That first tentative order has led to at least twice a month calling. We ordered $70 worth of food. They forgot the rice. Rather than bring us rice (which is a pretty darn important part of Chinese food), they gave us a $5 refund. Just ordered $70 worth of food from Gunston Wok that cost me over $90 with all of the ridiculous Door Dash fees. Only received one Shrimp Fried Rice but I ordered two (as clearly shown in the receipt). Called the restaurant to tell them I did not receive two orders of Shrimp Fried Rice. The man who answered just argued with me for a solid 5 minutes, telling me I did NOT order 2 shrimp fried rice. I finally asked him if he really thought I had nothing better to do than call and lie about not receiving food that I just spent $90 on. My family and I decided to order from this place for our Christmas dinner. When ordering, the lady on the phone was very nice and courteous. However, after our food was delivered, we realized that they did not include the 2 liter Coke we purchased. I called the restaurant back and explained that I tried flagging the drive down but they did not see me and that I would need my Coke or a refund. The lady explained that she didn't know how to do a refund and that we could go ahead and just add the difference to our next purchase. I explained that we were only here for the holiday and that I would appreciate the money back or a delivered Coke. She once again explained that we could add it as a discount for my next purchase and, again, I explained that I did not want that. She then said "Ok, you'll get your Coke" and hung up on me. As a consumer, I find this to be very unprofessional and disrespectful. If I gave you my money and you did not deliver what I paid for, it is your job to ensure that I am satisfied and get what I paid for. After about 3 minutes, the woman, whom I learned was named "Chloe", explained that she was about to send one of her drivers with a Pepsi since they didn't have Coke. I said that was ok and that I appreciated it. In the end, I got my Pepsi and the drive who delivered it was very apologetic. My family (who live there and have ordered from GW before) said it's not the first time the lady has given them an attitude. The only reason they keep buying from there is because it is close by and dirt cheap. Gunston Wok has a Dieter's Special section. Items in this section are steamed. No oil, salt, sugar, or MSG is used. All sauce is served on the side (Brown, Garlic, or White Light Sauce). No item on the entire menu is priced above $10.25. However, they require an order totaling a minimum of $12 for delivery. They also charge a $1.25 delivery fee. We order here fairly frequently, bypassing closer Chinese restaurants. Food is very fresh and served in piping hot, generous portions. When I've ordered delivery, it comes super quick most of the time and is always ready when I arrive promptly at pickup. The owners are friendly and aim to please. This is my go to place. Probably ordered 10 times over last 4 months. My parents, friends, husband and kids LOVE it. I'm a picky Chinese eater and this is top notch. Our regular orders are the sweet and sour chicken (all white meat), broccoli beef, mongolian beef, shrimp lo mein, and fried rice. The phad Thai is also great. I love that instead of ordering a separate lo mein or fried rice entree you can add $3 or so to get a generous portion as the side. I've only been to the restaurant once and it is really a take out/delivery place. If you are looking for an eat in place this isn't it. I order delivery which is a nominal fee. I also appreciate that I can order through the Eat24 app which not only pulls my credit card info automatically but remembers my last order and tells me when the food will arrive. Not your typical carryout locale. Friendly service as you're ordering and the capability to adjust the very generous two-person menu (within reason). I've been there a few times now and each time I've gotten the two-person menu and asked if we could make a few changes in regards to an entree item or an appetizer. Both times, the staff was more than willing to accommodate our requests and had our food in time for us to stroll over to the 7-11, grab a few drinks, and head back for our delicious food. Not the best takeout chinese I have ever had but pretty darn close, and it is certainly the best in Lorton, in my opinion. I order from here about twice a month and it always does the trick. The food portions are massive and it all tastes great. I especially love how they give you a ton of Lo Mein, usually enough for seconds, thirds, and maybe fourths! lol. Very good rice and good meat as well. I think its in an average price range, the staff is very friendly, and they are usually pretty quick and efficient. Food quality was low, i took a bite of the wonton and found it was stale. I ordered eggrolls and I got spring rolls. The fried rice was a poor excuse for fried rice. The sweet-and-sour pork was all right but again I didn't even finished my portion.
