Love, love, love Hunan Bistro! The flavors feel more authentic than your usual Chinese fare, with lots of garlic, ginger, and five spice. Portions are generous. I especially enjoy the pork, which I'm not usually a fan of in Chinese food. It has the warm five spice flavor and is very tender. I also like that they add greens to the won ton soup (cabbage and maybe bok choy tops?) Also don't miss the crab rangoons! They seem to contain actual crab and aren't overly sweet. Lastly, you gotta try the viral fruit shaped ice cream pops. They're a bit pricy at $8.95, but a fun experience to eat. I had the mango and enjoyed it thoroughly. This restaurant is a diamond sitting in an ugly strip mall. Listen: deal with the badly designed parking lot and get in here for major deliciousness! My first visit was take out, then returned to dine in. It's lovely inside. Comfortable seating and really spacious. You'll be greeted right away and you can pick your seat and they will wait on you. There is also a cozy little sitting area by the counter if you are doing takeout and need to wait. Staff seems to be small as in one immediate family but they do a great job, including special requests (hold the broccoli!) and answering all your questions about their offerings. When it comes to Chinese food, I want the authentic stuff with minimal if any Americanized treatment. I'm looking for hot chili oil, Szechuan peppers, unique and exotic flavor combos, plenty of mouth-numbing heat, and soft, tender meats. So happy to report, you will find those here. Don't miss the Red Oil Chao Shou app which is steamed wontons in hot chili oil with just a hint of sweetness. Liked it so much, got a second order to go. Orange Chicken was fantastic, intense flavor, and Szechuan Beef was perfect. High points for the Curry Chicken as well. The earlier menu photos showed me Sesame Cold Noodles on the menu. I headed over there drooling to find that the menu has been revised; it's no longer on there! People weren't ordering it! Oh, the humanity! BUT.... the lovely charming hostess said, "I can make it for you" - JOY. And she did, two times now, and it's off the charts. It's got a nutty vibe and I took medium heat which is underlying and builds as you eat. Wonderful! Highly recommend you get this special order. Ate here for lunch with wife. We were about the only people dining in--looked like most of their business was carryout. Despite having white tablecloths, the prices here are surprisingly reasonable. Lunch specials which include rice, egg roll AND soup were only 8 bucks--it doesn't get any better than that. Everything we had was great. Service was friendly. It seemed a little different here because no one came to the table with a bill--you just go to the register in the back and they tell you what you owe. Hubby & I stopped in for a late lunch. It was right at 3:00 & they graciously allowed us to order from the lunch specials menu. Hubby ordered Stir Fried Beef with green onions. His meal came with steamed rice, an egg roll & egg drop soup. I got Mongolian Beef which came with steamed rice, an egg roll and sweet & sour soup. The food came out quickly & was steaming hot. Both soups were excellent. The egg rolls were pretty much just cabbage & bland. The rice was cooked just right. I liked the Mongolian Beef but hubby didn't care for his entree. Great food!!! The General Tso's Tofu is excellent and vegan! It was a large portion and could easily make two meals. The tofu was perfectly fried and the sauce was very tasty. My friend had the Singapore noodles and said the beef was probably a tenderloin because it was so tender and it was delicious. It is a locally owned business which makes it even more special. The staff were super accommodating and happy to give suggestions. It was a very comfortable setting. There is lots of parking and it is easy to find in a large strip mall. I saw that they also utilize DoorDash, GrubHub and Uber Eats. I will go back! It was excellent food and supporting local business is a big perk. read more

I was pleasantly surprised how good the food was here... my parents live close by and I decided to get taken out here while visiting them over the holidays! We tried the Szechuan beef, orange chicken, beef and broccoli, General Tso, and several of the appetizers... all were fresh and and of good quality! So much that we decided to go back a week later and eat in the restaurant! The interior was clean and simple! Good legit americanized Chinese food here. Nothing to complain about whatsoever. The servers (family owned) were very nice and quick and the everything ordered - fried rice, rangoons, kung pao beef - were all excellent. The only issue is the ambience is depressing - not the restaurant itself which is spotless and clean and orderly - the fact that at 6 on a Sunday not one other person or couple were eating here. AND good value - each of us wound up with a lunch sized takeout portion to take home. Also Middletownians like all other SW Ohioans are idiots with no idea how to drive, so watch the poorly designed parking lot so you don't get run over or backed into. Don't just a book by its cover bc it's in a shopping center beside a vape shop behind Burger King. The inside of the restaurant is very nice. We had wonton soup, house rice which is fried rice with shrimp, chicken, beef and pork. Had general tso chicken with spring roll and kung pao beef with egg roll. Food was very good with big portions. This place is amazing! Super clean when we walked in. Excellent service! Food was hot, fresh, and sooo good! We got Wonton soup. It was delicious. It had some cabbage in the broth as well as the dumplings. I've never had it that way, but I loved it. We had Sweet and Sour Chicken and Sesame Chicken.
