The result was a profound culinary tragedy.The Meatball Sandwich: For a place that specializes in pizza crust, managed to serve bread with the texture of damp cardboard and about the same thickness. The meatballs themselves had the exact structural density of squash balls, floating aimlessly in a marinara sauce that tasted less like heirloom tomatoes and more like hot, acidic anger. The cheese on top wasn't so much melted as it was sweat-softened by the ambient heat of the gate area. It is a sandwich designed specifically to ruin a flight? The Fries: The fries were an exercise in culinary depression. Limp, cold, and entirely devoid of any crispiness and flavor, they appeared to have given up on life long before they were tossed in the box. They were heavily caked in seasoning, and, thus, magically lacked flavor, likely an attempt to mask the complete absence of any actual potato. We stopped into Humble Pie for a quick bite before our flight -- and there was nothing humble about the experience. We waited at the host stand as instructed, but our server, Samantha D, shouted "Hi friend! Table or bar?" from across the restaurant. When we chose a table and sat down, she accused us of switching tables, which was confusing and embarrassing since we had no idea where we were supposed to sit. It drew unwanted attention from every other diner in the room. Things got worse when the ordering system warned us that our tab would be automatically closed with a 20% gratuity if we didn't order or leave within 40 minutes. I genuinely wish Yelp allowed negative stars because this place earned less than zero. From the second we walked in, the experience was hostile and uncomfortable. Our server, Samantha D., vaguely told us to "sit at this table" with absolutely no direction or professionalism. We sat at a nearby table that seemed more accommodating, and instead of handling it politely, she immediately became rude, loud, and dismissive. Her attitude throughout the entire meal made us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable, like customers were an annoyance to her. The food was just as terrible as the service. The fries were drowned in so much salt they were practically inedible. The "salt and pepper" wings tasted nothing like advertised and were completely covered in Old Bay seasoning. Every sauce we tried was awful and tasted cheap and bland. What made the experience even worse was the cleanliness and several plates brought to our table were visibly dirty. There is absolutely no excuse for serving food on dirty dishes. Between the rude service, uncomfortable atmosphere, filthy plates, and badly prepared food, this was one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've ever had. The breakfast sampler was $26.50 (added bacon for $4.50). The eggs are powdered eggs. I'm not sure any of it was edible other than the English muffin, maybe. The service is slow. You'll scan a QR code to order, but you do have a server. He was fairly attentive to our drinks/refills. Our kids got a breakfast sandwich, which was $16 and because we substituted bacon for the candied bacon it came with, it was another $4.50. I've been using "traveling" as an excuse to eat garbage, so I decided to reel it in a bit and look for something healthy. Scanned the menu saw lots of temptation, not much in the "virtue" department until I noticed the chicken wings came with carrots and celery. So I asked for just a side of carrots. Simple, right? But they were actually good. Fresh, crisp, and DELICIOUS. I ended up eating plates of them like it was a personal challenge. Then, because moderation deserves a reward, I ordered a skinny margarita. It hit the spot, light, tart, and knocked the edge off for my next flight. All in all, Humble Pie was a solid layover win. Had an early flight out of Phoenix and my husband wanted to get breakfast before our long flight. Humble Pie was one of the few places open in our terminal, so it was pretty packed. We had to wait a little to get seated, and they weren't letting anyone sit at the bar since it was still breakfast time. Once we finally got a table, we noticed there was only one server handling the whole place. She was really friendly and hustled hard. The breakfast menu was pretty limited. Since I don't eat meat, I went for the carnitas hash but asked for it without the carnitas, so it ended up being just eggs and potatoes. It was okay, but I bet it would've been tastier with the meat. Food was below average. Cajun sandwich was a small breast but to be expected in an airport. What really through me off was the bartender. Think his name was John. Short with multiple patrons and clearly showed some biases. I was parked at the bar for a couple of hours and it was going well until it wasn't. I paid left a modest 20% tip and got a "was there a problem with the service?" I quickly said no taken aback by the comment and he proceeded to say I left a 0% tip which was incorrect. I promptly pull out a $20 bill as I thought maybe the system messed up. Upon further review of the receipt I had left a tip. Then he proceeded to still tell me it was my fault. James the bartender is fast- but you can tell he's done it forever and he's over it. I said hi first. He didn't bring me a water until the second time I asked. He was just efficient and on the slightly quick/short/rude side to all guests. The pizza was barely ok. Marg add mushrooms felt very underwhelming. Mich ultra was obviously fine in a bottle. Maybe the qr code on the bar to order should just be the only method of ordering if the bar team isn't going to be welcoming. I don't think I'll sit at the bar here again- and I travel weekly. Layover in Phoenix, so stomped by for a quick bite. A bit unorganized with staff and customers. Lots of clutter, and folks bumping into each other. The two of us ordered: -chopped salad $14.79 -cheese burger $17.29 -fries surcharge $2.75 It seemed like our burger was forgotten, since we were waiting extra long, and even our server was wondering where it was, so he had to check, then after some more time, the food came out. Wow! Airport food, watch out! Humble Pie has raised the bar! My hopes of finding decent food at the airport is always tempered. We chose Humble Pie as it's near our gate for breakfast after walking away from another establishment whose prices were outrageous for mediocrity. I had a big helping of eggs and colorful potatoes that were not overly oily at all! The servers are exceptionally kind and attentive. The candied bacon was not overly sweet, just a touch, perfection. We wanted a lite snack and had the Forno Bread for $10 and it didn't disappoint, what made it great was Daniel gave us their Homemade Ranch which was a great mix with the marinara sauce. I grabbed lunch here on Friday prior to a flight out at Sky Harbor. They were really busy which is usually a good sign for an eatery. There were seats available near the windows and my waiter was awesome. I ordered a Pineapple Mint mimosa and the BLT with Fries. The food was ready very quickly for how busy they were. The mimosa was fantastic and the BLT was perfect. The slices of bacon were nice and thick, the tomato was just right and the lettuce was crisp. I enjoyed every bite! Not being in a hurry I was able to people watch for a bit and didn't feel rushed to leave. The atmosphere is great for the travelor, there is a bar right up front where patrons can sit and drink their meal if they would like! lol I enjoyed my visit here and would highly recomend checking them out!
