I have been to Hula's twice. The first time I was with a group of bikers about 20. I ordered about third, I waited for over and hour, after everyone was done eating I told them just give me my money back. Surprised but they agreed, then they could not find my tag. To day we stoped my wife & I son and daughter-in-law 4 children all together 8. When I payed I had no glasses with me the girl tells me $105.25 I gave her 120 not a bad tip I think. After I get home read the receipt added on is skyrocketing food and labor costs 8%. $6.30 Automatic service fee gratuity $14.16 when you order off a menu's with prices that should be plus tax only. never again Hulas read more

I always pass by this place when coming from San Jose and have wanted to stop and try it out. My Mother in-law and I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and sat inside. The waitress was very nice and welcoming. The menu has alot of options to choose from. The place is called Hula and pictures are Hawaii themed so I was expecting island food. The menu just had alot of sandwiches and Hamburger options. My Mother in-law ordered a banana milkshake to start and it was too thick to get through a straw (she's 81yrs old) so she used a spoon instead. The prices on menu are reasonable. We both ordered a roast beef sandwich with An jus and our orders came out within 8 minutes considering there were quite a few people waiting . The sandwich was pretty big but was very dry. There was no mayo on bread and the bread was not even toasted with butter as most places do it. The meat was bland, no seasoning or taste to it. The An jus was oily and had no taster either. My side with the sandwich was the soup for the day which was vegetable beef. The soup came out in a very small dipping sauce container!!! It was the same size as the An jus one...lol....there was a very very small piece of beef in it and the rest was mostly celery. I'm not kidding you, it was small, see picture. I asked for bbq Sauce because the sandwich was so dry, and the waitress said they charge for the BBQ sauce!!!! Wth!!! I said no thanks....we left disappointed in the food. PHENOMENAL. Rolled in around 8pm and the girls were cheerful and polite. Patrons inside were having desserts which looked to die for. The Potato skins appetizer aren't the typical wedges (of literal skin) that one would expect, they are whole russet potatoes! Cut in half and slightly hollowed with all the good stuff on top. Little heavy on the green onion for me but thats personal preference, was delicious. We were stuffed after sharing just the app between 2 of us but somehow managed to smack down the our entire burgers too. We couldn't resist. My boyfriend got the chipotle burger and he devoured before I could ask for a taste. Slightly spicy but he enjoyed the flavor! This spot is a well-known little stop for a quick bite to eat. Unfortunately, the primary word that I have to describe this place is LAZY. I needed something quick and decided that this might be a step up from the fast food in town. I pulled up to the drive-through and waited for about five minutes. There was no indication that anyone was inside or even working so I thought perhaps the speaker or microphone were broken. I pulled around to the window and the lady inside opened it and said they would take my order in a minute. Ok, no problem! At least I now knew they were open. A couple of minutes later another girl can back over to take the order. She rang it up and went to hand me the receipt. Now what she didn't know is I have a muscle injury on my left side. Instead of handing it out or putting on the tray they have for the exact purpose of extending things out, she holds it right and the window and smirks. I open the door, take the receipt and sign it, placing it back in the window. All during this time I realize why they are so slow. Instead of taking care of their jobs, they are complaining about a person who covered on Friday night and didn't fill the ketchup bottles. Oh I wish that was the worst of life's problems! when she went to hand the food out the window, she did the same thing. Instead of putting the bag on the tray and moving it out, she held it right inside the window. I opened the door and took it, then she quickly closed the door and started laughing with her coworker. I give it 1 star because the service was awful, the potatoes were bland, and the bacon undercooked. The only reason it gets 1 star is because it has to have at least 1. Sorry, but if you aren't a regular from this tiny clique town, you're not going to get good service or food. Won't repeat this mistake ever. I waited 10 minutes at drive through order speaker I ordered a shake drove forward and waited another 15 minutes behind a single car to then be given a dirty look by a lady who slammed the broken drive through window and walked away no words at all lol wonder why window is shattered??? After a few minutes she returned opened window and asked " what do you want?" LOL I want my shake I said. She was so rude told me to leave threatening to call cops after I asked at the front window for a manager as the cook was laughing at me... she says I'm the owner wtf? How does this place keep busy? There was very a cool breeze that passed through on my visit. That was nice because it was the beginning of Summer. I picked out the avocado chicken burger with a choice of fries, soup of the day or house salad. The wait time wasn't long at all and received service with a smile. The chicken avocado sandwich was really good and filled me up. The salad was crisp and fresh. Just the way I like it. I will definitely come to Hulas the next time I'm passing through. Updating my review. The owner reached out wanting to improve the product, which I think is very stand up of him. The breakfast burrito has improved, it is not all potato as before. It did have more flavor this time around. I asked for the bacon crispy, it was not. I do think seasoning the potatoes generously would help to improve the overall flavor. Foods great. MANAGER TONY is Crap. Want to support the workers but hate to support someone who does not take positive criticism or put actual care and concern into quality care and responses. We love the soft serve and hula burgers. Fries are so similar to home made. Occasional soggy buns if in styrofoam Togo containers. Recycled crate paper would be beneficial for more than one reason. Charming little roadside place with the walls draped with local sport memorabilia and service is served with a cheerful smile. Too bad the food doesn't match the small town friendly atmosphere of the place. We all thought our food was pretty "meh". My daughter's French dip sandwich came with a very watery dipping sauce. My Escalon Burger was OK, but really lacked seasoning. The complimentary scoops of ice cream at the end of our meal was a nice touch. I was extremely shocked at how awesome this place was. Yeah, I'm a picky burger eater. I was hungry and stopped with my brother and my puppy, Milo. As soon as we sat down, a server brought a bowl of cold water to Milo. How awesome is that!? Then shes asks if my puppy would like a snack then brought over a cookie. The food? I had a burger, fries and Coke. The burger was excellent! Juicy with 3 slices of tomato, 2 full slices of red onion, 7 pickle slices and lettuce. It was so good. The fries were.....ok. I'm not sure this place could get 5 stars from me, but I've only been here once. The place is usually packed and I don't visit Escalon that often, unless I'm there for pizza. I wasn't sure but they have a fair amount of indoor seating, along with the seating out front. It wasn't exactly warm but it wasn't bad. There are some hard booths to one side and tables with padded benches on the other. The server was friendly and so enthusiastic. They apparently serve Coca-Cola products, as she mentioned Sprite for my question about Mountain Dew. They have smoothies and milk shakes also. I decided to order the Coconut Fried Shrimp and Fries. I'd been thinking about fried shrimp the other day and didn't find any, until this place. It didn't take long and everything looked amazing, but the 8 medium shrimp seemed more of a snack, even with the fries, than a meal. I loved the crispiness but the taste didn't seem enough, no matter that I liked it. The texture of the shrimp's coating was more than the taste. Hopefully, I'll find something that I like even better when I return. read more

Definitely left here disappointed tonight and will never be returning. Our food was ok but we encountered major issues with our bill that the staff was not willing to rectify what so ever. Two of us ordered the Linguicia sandwich with Hula fries that was CLEARLY advertised on the menu for $11.99. We don't have no upgrades or substitutions, just ordered as is on the menu. On our bill they charged us $13.99. My husband pointed this out to the staff who immediately blamed the manager stating that he had raised the price from $11.99 to $13.99 but refuses to change the menu even though they keep telling him. The issue we had is that 1.) we should have been told this PRIOR to ordering not when we got the bill after the fact 2.) they were not willing to adjust our bill to reflect the advertised price since it was not our fault. They had multiple opportunities to do the right thing. Granted it's only $4 but it's terrible business practice and customer service. After outright refusing to adjust the bill to the advertised price we paid so we could just leave. Then we asked to split the bill 2 ways. The cashier then rang us up and charged us for someone else's whole bill. My husband had to tell him it was another parties bill so he had to void it and then my husband had to figure out the math for him to split in half. It was totally wild. We couldn't get out of there fast enough. You lost 2 sets of customers tonight over $4 because of your lack of updating your menu and the wait staff communicating with customers. At the very least if you can't get new menus then black out the current listed price and let people know there was a price change. read more

Three great options to enjoy food here! They have a drive thru window, outdoor seating and indoor seating. The food is truly homemade and has delicious flavor. Breakfast is traditional and delightfully delicious! They even give you a small scoop of soft serve ice cream to finish off the meal. A must try if you are passing through or live in town. read more

Hula's seduced me with its signs for "greatest burgers ever" on my drive from Yosemite back to San Francisco. See, I had my heart set on In 'N Out, but after a grueling drive and flight over Yosemite in Jamestown (oh yeah), I didn't have the 30 minute patience required. I also rationalized and said: "okay, you can always try In 'n Out" and did a U-turn after looking up Hula's yelp reviews at a traffic light and ordered the amazing Knockout Burger. I paid an extra $1 for more meat because I was ravenously hungry. Not more than 10 minutes later, my burger was brought to me with some fries. Hula's has both indoor and outdoor seating and you order up at the counter. I chose to sit indoors in the AC since wasps were stalking some folks outside (and I'm a total scaredy cat when it comes to those stinging insects). The burger was incredible! The bun, amazingly ripe avocado and the meat cooked to medium; along with jalapenos it was so damn fulfilling. I stuffed myself finishing up the fries and the staff brought me a little surprise of ice cream with my bill! That was so sweet, unexpected and earned them that 5th star. Im not sure when the phrase "best burgers in the valley" on the giant sign out front was coined but what we got was maybe one small step up from a fast food burger. The staff never once cleaned an outside table after someone left which seemed gross and unsanitary given the current state of the world. First time in; drove from Modesto to try the burgers and Tri-tip Nacho Fries. When a got there it wasn't terribly busy, a few tables occupied. I waited at the front window to place an order and stood for several minutes. I was a bit agitated at this point because I made eye contact with a few of the staff and no one greeted me or asked to take my order. No one acknowledged me, so I went inside and asked if I should seat myself. One of the waitresses said, yes. I sat and waited for several minutes and finally someone came and took my order. I was waiting for my bill, so I decided to go to the front to pay and also wanted to order a milkshake to go. My waitress told me the amount, I handed my card, she handed me the bill, and walked away to continue working. To my surprise my bill was paid, except for the shake. I was confused, so I asked another waitress if my bill was correct. She said yes, and that my waitress paid for my meal. I asked her why? She said she just does that sometimes. Wow?! Well I certainly could not let that stand, so I tipped her the amount of my bill she paid plus extra. When she took the bill to ring up she noticed the tip and glanced over with a big smile, I winked and walked out. Great customer service deserves a great response. Just finished eating at Hula's. The place is cute reminds me of old school 50's dinner mixed with Hawaiian flare. We had Mike as our server. He was so personable that my boyfriend & I thought he was the owner of the restaurant. To our surprise he is not, but he should be!! We got the filet kabobs & the big kahuna burger which both was mediocre only because we asked for rare & they came out well done (not mikes fault at all he didn't cook it!) so that's why only the 4 stars.
