First time in; drove from Modesto to try the burgers and Tri-tip Nacho Fries. When a got there it wasn't terribly busy, a few tables occupied. I waited at the front window to place an order and stood for several minutes. I was a bit agitated at this point because I made eye contact with a few of the staff and no one greeted me or asked to take my order. No one acknowledged me, so I went inside and asked if I should seat myself. One of the waitresses said, yes. I sat and waited for several minutes and finally someone came and took my order. After my food arrived I was satisfied and everything tasted great. A good burger and fries with mounds of meat and cheesy goodness. I was waiting for my bill, so I decided to go to the front to pay and also wanted to order a milkshake to go. My waitress told me the amount, I handed my card, she handed me the bill, and walked away to continue working. To my surprise my bill was paid, except for the shake. I was confused, so I asked another waitress if my bill was correct. She said yes, and that my waitress paid for my meal. I asked her why? She said she just does that sometimes. Wow?! Well I certainly could not let that stand, so I tipped her the amount of my bill she paid plus extra. When she took the bill to ring up she noticed the tip and glanced over with a big smile, I winked and walked out. Great customer service deserves a great response. That is special, friendly service from someone who works hard to make a customer satisfied. That my foodies is above and beyond service! Just finished eating at Hula's. The place is cute reminds me of old school 50's dinner mixed with Hawaiian flare. We had Mike as our server. He was so personable that my boyfriend & I thought he was the owner of the restaurant. To our surprise he is not, but he should be!! We got the filet kabobs & the big kahuna burger which both was mediocre only because we asked for rare & they came out well done (not mikes fault at all he didn't cook it!) so that's why only the 4 stars. The name Hula's made me look twice as I drove by on my way from Yosemite. The Yelp reviews had me walk up and order... Nice patio to sit in, or an inside area (I didn't take a peak inside) and it appears they have servers. I just walked up and ordered at the window. Nice person took my order. Asked what I wanted on my burger and how I wanted it cooked. Fries and a Coke? Yup. Not too long of a wait, and I was back in my truck. A quick test of the fries and I realized they were garlic! Nice bonus. Good looking wrapped burger... that tasted great! Hand pressed juicy goodness. Pickles, onion, lettuce and their burger sauce. One bite, and I was hooked! Shocked AND hooked. You never know what you might get from a "burger" or sandwich place. They didn't disappoint. I suggest you stop by here if you live in these parts... Or just passing through. We dropped by on our way back from Yosemite on a tip that this place gives out soft serve on the house at the end. Parking was easy (there was no shade if you care about that sort of thing). There was covered outside seating with a water mister, which was lovely given the 109 degree weather. We ordered a pineapple milkshake and jalapeño burger with fries. The food was delicious - the milkshake had small pineapple pieces that reminded me of pineapple candy, and the burger had thick spicy cuts of jalapeño, crunchy pickles, and a sweet bun. Service was attentive, and all servers wore masks. There was a single restroom in the back that was clean. The only downside was we had to combat flies while eating. Temperatures outside were 95°F and temperature in restaurant was a warm 80°F. Probably because they have western exposure, an open drive-though window, open cooking area, and the bathroom is out back so customers are going back and forth opening the door to the outside. Every time someone goes outside in either door there is a blast of hot air. Service was attentive and food was good. Long wait for food which is not because they were busy inside but trying to also service the drive-through window orders. Didn't get my order right the first time so I was a bit behind the rest of my group. Free WiFi but no outlets for power. Good milkshakes. My family and I were hungry and craving a burger. We decided to try something new rather than going to in n out. The phone rang for awhile but then a girl took my order and she was very nice. We ordered the knock out burger with garlic fries and philly cheese steak with regular fries. I had asked the girl what comes on the philly and she told me just the meat and cheese, but it came with huge chunks of meat, cheese, and onions. Wanted to confirm what comes on the Philly cheesesteak as many places make them differently. But sad to say, the burger was very dry (it was not "juicy" as they claimed), the garlic fries were cold and my fiancé couldn't finish the Philly cheesesteak because it was so hard to eat through the big chunks of meat. Stopped here for lunch while driving to Yosemite. This is an awesome diner with very cool and eclectic decor. The breakfast burrito I had here was absolutely incredible---it had grilled vegetables within it that really added to the texture and flavor. The wait times are ridiculous all the females do is sit and talk in there and stare at you why you try to order your food... like 30-45 mins unacceptable to get a ice cream, not to mention the owner likes to hit on young girls and really only hire young female workers. The food is alright but not worth it with the way the workers act and ignore you So the owner obviously doesn't keep a close eye on his business, and try to deny facts if you look there is more then just me saying it. This is a great little joint in Escalon! Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and the food is great. They've got TVs going with sports, and are super involved in the local community - supporting sports teams and the like. It's a small family owned place that's always ready to greet you with a smile. The food is fantastic, and a huge selection. There's burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs, salads, and plenty of sides or appetizers. I went with the Knockout Burger on suggestion of the waitress, Cassie - and boy was it good. Cassie went above and beyond the call of duty and made sure all of my questions were answered and I was well serviced and taken care of. This is great for dessert too - their milkshakes are fantastic - perfect for a hot summer evening to sit out on the patio and sip on something cold. I've tried to give this place a shot. I honestly can't see the appeal at this point with the locals other than it's convenience. My order of breakfast a week ago had a hair in the hash browns. I let it go, because honestly, stuff happens. It wasn't on purpose, I just didn't finish my meal. I don't like to make a fuss. With that said... This evening I ordered a party melt and chicken tenders with garlic fries for my boy. Side salad for me with bleu cheese dressing. And a sprite. Pulled up, paid for the food, the young lady at the window asked if I wanted any condiments, I asked what they had, and the response was ketchup, mustard and napkins. Napkins? Really? Sure, I'll take some napkins... smh. Anyway, I asked for ketchup and ranch on top of the what should have been bleu cheese dressing... Got home, forgot the sprite, checked the bag, only ranch. This is NOT a fast food restaurant so please don't come expecting your food to be cheap. It's not going to be, you are going to be paying more BUT you are getting some good food!!!! With all places too staff can make mistakes so if you're concerned check your food before you leave if it's drive-thru.
