Went for breakfast, it was ok nothing to write home about. Service was friendly. Had bacon & eggs hubby had an omelet.

This place is a must stop for food. Asada fries are so great, all the burger choices are on point.

First time here. We were looking to get lunch in a local joint and saw signs for hulas. Easy stop and parking no problem. Waitresses were young and pretty and full of smiles... for some reason I threw the diet out the window after seeing the picture of the breakfast burger. And man was it gooood... worth the 12000 calories . Wifey had eggs and bacon ... a little slow coming but that's because it's busy. Hi, I live in Escalon and my family and I have eaten there at least once every six months for the last 5 years. Yesterday will be our last. I keep hoping that they will step it up! Their prices are high for the quality...which is not great. We had company over for a pool party and we decided to walked there...the girl who took our order immediately said after she took the money to "Have a good one" and then said oops you just ordered and haven't gotten your food yet. We had decided to take the food home and eat it by the pool and there were no condiments in the bag, no napkins, nothing. One of my friends ordered a salad and when we got home the salad dressing was not in the bag. The food was mediocre/honestly not good and the meat looked like it was full of fillers. For the same price you can go to Shorty's and get exactly what you ordered and the food is fantastic....which is what we usually do except that for some reason I keep giving this place a chance. I think the quality is poor, the service is poor and the only thing keeping them in business is that they have car shows and are on a highway. If not for that....audios Hula's and goodbye. I would really like to see someone who cares about food and what they serve to take control. I really am disappointed as we are a family that cares about Escalon and want to support local business. Planning our annual camping trip I was researching a place for our group to stop for breakfast instead of Cindy's in Oakdale (since that place is always awful) when I found the other review for Hula's. I was so excited but our caravan group shot it down since we didn't think there would be enough rv parking. Soooo on the way home in 100 degree weather and a starving 2 year old in the backseat I thought, hey what a perfect place to try! Oh man, what a MISTAKE!! First of all, they have no system. There is a walk-up window outside, a drive-thru, and seating inside. So we sat down. After almost 10 min of no one coming to our table, I walked up to the front, asked where we order and was told, "I'll get to you in a minute". ok, they must be short staffed or something, no biggie. Oh but could I please have some water for my daughter since she was crying "mama wawaaaaa" in the no a/c building. You would have thought I'd asked for something impossible like icewater in hell, oh wait, I was. I returned to the table, and ANOTHER 15 min goes by before a different rude waitress comes to take our order. So we are really trying to wait paitently, entertain our kid and not die of starvation or heat exhaustion. In the meantime, another family of 4 came in and sat in the next booth, an elderly couple also entered and sat down. While our ding dong waitress makes like 4 trips to bring our food (she didn't even bring the drinks until we'd already started eating) she never once stops at the other tables or even acknowledges their existence. Midway through our meal, the family of 4 gets up in a huff and leaves. Shortly after that the elderly couple leaves. On their way out they tell two other ladies who are walking in and then THEY turn around and leave. In a 5 minute span they lost 8 customers. If it had been one lazy employee that might make me try again, but I encountered 3 rude waitresses. The math is not adding up. The food was good though, I got the chicken club sandwich but I think I pissed them off with requesting water so I got the french fry remnants, potato confetti. A step up from Jack-in-the-box, but definitely not worth the hassle. Did I mention the place was fithy? Thank god my caravan group ixnayed the breakfast idea, I would never have heard the end of it. read more

On the way home from the lake he saw Hulas & stopped in... Glad we did! Our waitress was funny & very attentive. We had the Escalon buger & the Guacamole. Both were great! We had garlic fries & sweet potato fries & we thought they were good also, especially the garlic fries!! The place was jumping! Even as busy as they were the palace was clean & the service was good. We were told they get busier than this & the service does slow down... Duh! It's a dinner experience not a 5 star fancy schamacy swanky joint! This place is good if you are wanting more of a burger than Burger King can offer. The menu is somewhat random in my opinion. The burgers have been good for the most part, just nothing special. The service is always great and like I said, they do have good tasting burgers (big portions), but I can't think of one that just blows my mind. We;ve passed this joint to and from our trips to Pinecrest many many times. We finally checked it out. Granted there aren't many choices in Escalon, but this is worth it. We stopped here on a Friday afternoon to a full house of customers. Lots of locals and travelers who were just passing through. The inside seating was full, but we found a nice table in their cute little outdoor area. That was great as the kids needed space to move around after being in the car all morning. The outdoor seating is also dog friendly with a little rocky/dirt patch in the far corner if they need to releive themselves. Our burgers were good. The kids hotdogs were good and didn't have those burnt spots that kids hate. Drinks are large. French fries were basic but did the job. The best little part was the mini softserve sundae they bring to everyone at the end of the meal. Check it out. It's both kid and dog friendly. read more

We stopped here on the way back from camping. We picked it because it was supposed to be dog friendly. It is cute little hamburger place and we were greeted my a super nice server who brought us treats for our puppy. Once we ordered the food came right out. They really don't skimp on anything. I ordered the cowboy burger and there was a ton of bacon on it as advertised. I ordered a strawberry shake so she brought me a shake and my husband a soda to go! She was so nice and thoughtful. I had the knockout burger and it was really good exept for the soggy botttom bun. THoUght it might be a fluke but mY daughter and wife said the same. Fries were also "soggy". No crispyness. If the fries would have been dropped longer and bun wasn't soggy it would have changed the whole meal. Portions were good. I was full when I left and didn't eVen finish my burger. Partly because of soggy bun. I would return and give it another try because I lo Ike tO sUpport private businesses and maybe it was just an off day. Service was ok. If they were older I'd be disappointed but due to their age I was content. Just like to seee young people work and things will change for them wo it's workk experience. I don't know what people find so great about this place. The patties are tasteless pre made things, the prices are way too high for what you get. Hold on a little longer and stop at In N out a little further down 120. Hell even Wendy's burgers have more flavor. We stopped here on the way home from a weekend at Yosemite, and I was so pleasantly surprised! This kind of place makes you feel good on the inside with their local sports team pride and the cluttered walls of memorabilia. I didn't have a burger, but the homemade chili was amazing! First off, I just want to say that we were looking forward to eating here. The yelp reviews were good and the pics of the food looked amazing. Sadly, the food was just meh. My husband ordered the bacon cheeseburger (it was burnt) I had chili cheeseburger that had no flavor and the tri tip nacho fries. Our nachos fries only had 4 pieces of tri tip and no guacamole as the other pictures show. Why the one star review then? When we received the bill, we were charged an extra 4% labeled as "CA Cost Increases Surcharge" I thought this was odd as this added charge is not listed anywhere in the restaurant or on the menu. Well we paid our bill and left. Looking at other reviews and such, it seem like the owner is trying to make up for rising costs and not wanting to print new menus. While I understand things get more expensive, as a consumer, I do not appreciate being deceived in this nature. Just raise your prices or at least put a sign up saying this is now going to be added to your bill. Don't just add it to the receipt. It makes it seem greedy and you are trying to hide something. On the plus side, our waitress was super nice and did a great job. Other than that, probably won't be returning. read more

My husband reeeeeeally wanted to try this place for "real American food". I'll keep this short and sweet, between our in-laws and us we ordered: 2 burgers (one was garlic), a club sandwich, and ice cream. The burgers were fantastic... Soft buns, juicy meat, fresh veg., fries were standard but good, club sandwich was ok. Ice cream was just regular soft serve, nothing special but service was friendly, prompt, and attentive. This is a great spot to stop on your way to the mountains. We got a GIGANTIC chili burger and a big plate of fries. The food was all very tasty. We really enjoyed the patio and cold beers on a sunny day. The service was beyond excellent. Our server was friendly, smiling and attentive. And brought a bowl of water for our dog. We planned on going to another lunch spot but we're so happy they were closed after coming here. Cozy atmosphere and super nice staff. All of our food came out hot and we didn't wait long. We ordered The Works Burger-5 stars,The Cowboy Burger-5 stars, Kid's chicken strips(crispy and flavorful) with fries, and chili cheese fries(my son's favorite). Great food but service isn't anything amazing... I've been there a few times and still feel the same. I don't think we'll ever return.

The food: The bacon and avocado sandwich was pretty good, but for $7.50 I was kind of expecting more than a tiny slice of Wonder Bread. My girlfriend got the Gardenburger for only $.50 more, and it was 3x as much food and looked great! The service: everybody working here was extremely friendly, but somehow it took them almost half an hour to make one sandwich and one burger. The girl at the counter asked me what kind of dressing I wanted with my salad, and I said ranch. When I got home, I was disappointed to find that there was no dressing on my salad, and none included in the bag. This would be a 5-star review if the sandwich had been around $5.00, but at $7.50 I was definitely expecting something more substantial. All in all, I will probably be back to Hulas in the future. I will not, however, be ordering anything other than a burger. This is the one thing that they apparently do very well at the above average price that they charge... read more

I love this place. 1-2x a year when we are camping we stop here for lunch. It is half way for us and amazing food and service. We can bring our dog in the patio and they bring him a bowl of water and treats. Can't beat complimentary ice cream at the end of the meal. sad to say.... The Saturday Special had nothing special about it. A French Dip sandwich isn't all that difficult. Put it in on a regular hamburger bun and it's a disaster. The fries should have spent a little longer in the fryer too. They cheerfully deducted 1/2 off my "special" and I still spent $7. If they had just told me that they were out of french rolls, I would have gladly changed my order to what looked like an incredible hamburger. Better luck next time! read more

Pretty good restaurant when you don't want to eat fast food or mexican food and that's open later than some places here in town.

We were passing through from San Francisco to Yosemite and we ate lunch here. I had a passable grilled chicken wrap (serves me right for ordering diet food) and my husband had an enviable BLT. Fries galore. And the best part...a free taste of soft serve for dinner. read more

We discovered this restaurant completely by chance as we were driving up to the Yosemite area from SF Bay Area. It's on a main route and easily accessible. The burgers are great, as are the garlic fries and the breakfast orders. They had "kids and senior" special meals that were smaller portions at a lessor price, a very nice touch. We went there twice. Both times they served us complimentary ice cream cones after our meal! The Sports and Hawaiian ambiance is quite cool, and they have ball games playing on the 2 TV screens. read more

Stopped here on the way to Yosemite National park from San Francisco for breakfast. The server was a lovely lady who wrote down some suggestions on places to see whilst traveling down the pacific coast high way. The decor of the restaurant was interesting and showed loads of pics of the local sports teams which was nice. We stopped in, more or less on impulse, driving from Twain Harte back to San Francisco. I ordered a mushroom cheese burger, fries, and a Coke; my wife had a soft-serve cone, so this review is admittedly based on a limited experience. The food was excellent: burger juicy and flavorful, fries fresh-cooked and crisp but not brittle, chocolate/vanilla soft-serve firm and larger than an order of "small" might have suggested, Coke attentively topped off when I was about halfway through, free small soft-serve cup of ice cream (for me) after I'd finished my burger. The service and friendliness are what nudged this up from four stars to five. The young lady who took our order at the walk up counter (Jamie, I believe?), was genuinely friendly, brought our food out to us at our table in (what for a San Franciscan was) the balmy outdoors. Even though we had ordered at a walk-up window, where one would ordinarily be expected to pay at the time of ordering, Jamie, after checking in with us a couple of times to see if we needed anything (water, for example) and to make sure all was well, brought us our check only when we were almost through eating (along with my free soft-serve). So, really, the best of two worlds: the efficiency and menu range of a good fast-food stop, and the service and customer attention of a "regular" restaurant. Our path doesn't often take us on this route, but next time it does, we'll stop in again. read more
