Kids Chicken Strips Basket
LaChell S.

I came to Hugo's Restaurant with my vegan parents and kids. I had the Cali Benedict with potatoes and really enjoyed it. My parents ordered the vegan chipotle scramble and vegan French toast and loved both. The kids had chicken strips with fries and butter pasta. Both were kid-approved. Jake was our server and he was great. We liked that he was attentive and gave helpful suggestions. The space is warm and cozy with a relaxed vibe, and parking was easy since they have their own lot (huge plus). The only miss for us was the vegan bacon... quinoa bacon is a big commitment . Everything else was a win and we'd definitely come back. See you soon!

Got the veggie casserole, which was good. But the star of the meal was the vegan Rueben. I'll come back on my own just to eat that. Ambiance was good, service top notch.

Not bad, but also nothing to rave about. Ordered delivery of the vegan blt wrap with fries and vegan mac and cheese. Everything lacked some seasoning. The vegan mac and cheese was also just pasta with unmelted shredded cheese on top which was disappointing. Wouldn't say it's worth the cost or going out of my way to try again.

Another wonderful place I've been to numerous times and hadn't reviewed! I know these things: Never had a bad meal Never had bad service Never had a tummy ache afterwards. Their Happy Hour is fantastic, $5 beers & wine and the HH snacks can literally be considered meals. Very nice size for being so inexpensive. It's a pretty casual setting but great for a cup of tea, something vegetarian even a beer. Always a nice time here.

I came here with a large group of friends and we enjoyed sitting on the patio for hours and hours chatting. It was a weekday so we weren't preventing anybody else from getting a table. The fried pickles were interesting as they were new for me, but everyone else really enjoyed them. I liked the chicken strips and the marinara sauce was a nice refreshing touch to your typical ranch or ketchup, dipping sauce.

Another outstandingly good lunch at Hugo's. The parking lot is almost always full. They take OpenTable reservations. Everything is excellent on the menu with so many V/V+ options your head spins - because you can combine anything with anything here. Light and delicate dressings, over the top salads, my favorite green casserole with cheeze, the desserts are tasty and almost healthy. The various juices and smoothies are definitely healthy. Love their (not) pastrami on rye sandwich! Pasta Mamas are so comforting. Eat everything here and feel the positive energy just overwhelm you about how this place keeps going for decades with the healthiest sustainable food on the planet next to pure raw. It can get a bit noisy so I wouldn't call it intimate but the outer ring patio is a bit more peaceful than the jumping inside seating. And some of the best coffee that better than most specialty shops.

Pretty much my birthday brunch crew (minus five)

Hugo's, thanks for the service, the kindness, the food elevations, the ambiance and so many years. Located on the cusp of Sherman Oaks, bordering Valley Village and outer Studio City, this Coldwater Canyon adjacent (one of two locations) restaurant resides on Riverside Drive across from the Mariposa Hotel and neighbors Whole Foods, Hugo's Tacos and several local businesses and residences, making it feel like a slice of home. I've been coming to Hugo's - Studio Oaks (Studio City + Sherman Oaks) or rather Sherman Village (Sherman Oaks + Valley Village) on and off for the last ten plus years or so. It's cozy inside charm and outdoor patio (added on during the last five years) have set the mood for some great experiences and meals with many for me including a pretty cool birthday brunch with some choice friends/chosen family. I knew we'd be a group of at least ten or more so I wanted to make a reservation online (they use OpenTable), but for parties larger than four it's best to call in and with some notice (I gave a little over a week). One of my favorite things about Hugo's is how they accommodate a variety of foodie preferences, restrictions and/or allergens. From vegetarian to vegan to gluten free and more, Hugo's is here to serve #ConsciouslyDelicious I recommended the Cinnamon Swirl French Toast to my friend Fabrice, the only other vegan in my party and he loved them! I went with the vegan version of the Chilaquiles (the best I've had at Hugo's to date) and my friend Barrak had the classic version. Among our group it was a brunch smorgasburg of so many things from pancakes to eggy dishes like the Huevos Rancheros, Breakfast scramble and so forth. Beverages followed the same suite with fresh hot coffee, juice, soft drinks, teas, waters and adult beverages.... Mimosas, including bottomless mimosas were had! Having enjoy meals and beverages at all times of day here, for so long - I have to say I'm proud of how they've continued to grow, thrive and improve. Happy Hour specials as well as monthly menu item specials like their breakfast salad, shepherd's pie (can be made vegan and/or gluten free) and baked apple crumble are so many choice things to check out and enjoy. They have private parking in their lot, but it does fill up quite fast for breakfast and brunch on weekends. Street parking is ample, though may be a journey. Well worth it! Easy + super clean restrooms. Free wi-fi. Pup/pet friendly. Family friendly. All welcoming.

Always full!

I went to Hugo's and had one of the BEST dining experiences ever. The food was great, but the service? Next level. Huge shout-out to Eric -- he wasn't even our server, yet my Coke Zero never hit empty once. He kept it full the entire time, lemon perfectly placed, like he had a sixth sense for when I needed a refill. That kind of attention is rare, and honestly, it made my whole meal. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and on top of things, but Eric went above and beyond in a way I'll seriously never forget. Hugo's, you've got a gem on your team. I'll be back -- and I'll be looking for Eric!

Iced Horchata Latte
Jessica E.

My husband and I ate here for brunch during a weekend trip to Universal Halloween Horror Nights. Food was delicious. We both ordered the breakfast burritos. You get a choice of pork bacon or veggie bacon. For my side, I chose a fruit cup. I also ordered an iced Horchata latte. Had to add some sugar because it wasn't too sweet.

Create your own veggie burger, 3 toppings: green chilies, vegan cheese, & guacamole. Side: butternut squash soup! So delicious!

Decided to try a few different items on the menu. We started with the Muay Thai Wing Kicks, which were absolutely amazing--perfectly crispy soy chicken wings with a great lemongrass flavor and topped with crispy basil. (Side note: we took the sauce home because it was so good lol) We also ordered the Tom Kah Kai soup which had that perfect hot-and-sour coconut broth flavor i always look for. Followed by the Pad Thai with tofu. All of the Asian dishes were so good. My husband went a different route and ordered the Burrito from their "Little Mexico" section. It comes with minced soy chicken, brown rice, black beans and cashew cheese. He thought it was just okay compared to other items we ordered. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. We noticed their take out was busier than dine in because i counted no less than 8 drivers plus another 3-4 pickup orders came in while we were there. And we were there pretty late.

That being said, We were in NoHo, and saw "The Vegan & More" in Studio City, so we made a detour, and decided to give this establishment a try. The address for this place is simple, however, when you look for the marquee that reads "The Vegan & More" you don't see it. What you do see is at the same address (and they happen to have a Yelp Page for that restaurant too BTW) is the Jumpin Java Kitchen, which has been there since 1995! As you can see from the photos, this place that first attracted us to come, is not a full blown restaurant, nor a pop-up (that we also passed on this a.m.) but a page from the menu from another restaurant. To me, this is what one would call BAIT AND SWITCH. Now let's get on to what was ordered.. My wife ordered the Vegan Egg Scramble.. and mind you, the photo that they showcase both on Yelp and Google, is FAR FROM what they served. The key to this dish is the vegan egg... not the veggies... .and you can see from our posted photos, from this a.m. there's barely anything there... which is why my wife didn't eat it. Now there are a few things that really bug me here... 1. The Vegan & More should not have a page on Yelp,a and Yes, I am going to complain, as when we arrived at the address, there's absolutely NOTHING there to say we were in the right place, other than the address. Also when we asked the server, he confirmed they have Vegan Options.. Not once was the name "Vegan & More" mentioned! 2. Portions, what you advertise from your photos, IS NOT what you serve. Forget about the overabundant of "home potatoes" that costs you nothing, but the very key of the meal, for a vegan to eat, you barely put anything on... yet while your photos show otherwise... 3. When the server asked if we wanted a box, and we refused, you would think the owner would be notified that the meal hasn't be touched... but no.. nothing. We got the check, paid WAY TOO MUCH for barely anything... Did I eat, yes, was it good, it was ok... but that's not why we were here... A new Vegan Restaurant in Studio City is what brought us here... However, FULL TRANSPARENCY is needed! Don't say one thing, and be something else... not even a mention to rebranding, nothing... Jumpin Java Kitchen IS what is where you would expect to find The Vegan & More"... Beware....!!!!

Did not check on us at all even when we motioned to them. We waited and waited for the check and 3 different servers asked how the food was. We said it's was not good and we're obviously unhappy. No one made any attempt to converse with us or offer anything other than the bill. $70 for bad service, weird attitudes and bland food.

Occupying the inside corner of a tiny commercial nook near Moorpark & Whitsett, it's a warm and welcoming restaurant with a very friendly and accommodating staff. Each table has a handmade wooden caddie for condiments, and the walls are filled with colorful artwork honoring Mexico and its famous icons (the wall by our table had a variety of paintings of artist Frida Khalo). As mentioned, there are bunches of dishes to choose from on the menu, all of them vegetarian, and most able to be made vegan. My son ordered the Vegan Cheese Empanada, and the Cheese Enchilada Dinner Plate. The empanada was quite large -- more like what you'd expect of an Italian Calzone, not that there's anything wrong with that. The dough was browned but soft (clearly baked, not fried), and was generously filled with vegan cheese. A side of hot sauce was a fiery blend of tomato, vinegar and peppers, and packed a serious punch. The Cheese Enchilada Plate was also a hefty portion: 2 large enchiladas dressed with plenty of fresh veggies and sliced avocado, served with house-made black beans and an earthy, nutty rendition of rice. Since I don't care for the taste of vegan cheese, I only sampled the rice and beans, but I will tell you they were terrific. These beans are slow-stewed with veggies and spices, leading to a deep, rewarding flavor; the rice is also made with care, blending several grains together and having a pleasing al dente texture a kin to risotto. Between the charming staff, the cozy atmosphere and the clean-tasting, homemade food, Leonors really is a great place to grab a casual meal you can feel good about eating while supporting a small business that deserves to thrive.

I can now enjoy my cravings in peace and pull up to potlucks with everyone's favorites. I ordered a concha, puerquito, and quava emepanada. I also told him when I got there. He had no answer to that. Called 4 times yesterday around 8:15am, then every 15 minutes later until someone by the name of Frankie answered the phone. I asked him "are you open"? He replied "yes, we are". Told him that I have been calling the bakery already 4 times and no-one is answering the phone. He apologized and I said "ok, will be there soon", and drove straight to the bakery and walked in at exactly 11:15am. This is a family owned business, and has been around for a little over 8 years now. Frankie, was very pleasant, nice, sharp and I think he overslept, because I could tell from his eyes. They looked tired. Once I got there, we had a small talk, and I told him "you are the owner, you should be here at least 30 minutes early. We both smiled, and laughed it off. Anyway, got few of their sweet and savory goodies which are: 2 strawberry Empanadas, 2 apple Empanadas, and 1 pumpkin Empanada. From their savory section got: 2 spinach & cheese ( cheese was more overpowering than the spinach. Wish it was the other way around. 2 mushroom Empanadas with sautéed onions inside. From their pastries: I got 1 Tres leches, 1, Eclair, and 1 Tiramisu. Concerning that they are all vegan, GF, and I am NOT, everything tasted very delicious, nice, fresh and hot. Some of the Empanadas were more filling, than others. Prices were also very affordable for the portions. They have Tamales, cakes, (which I didn't see), cookies, pastries, and few beverages. The fridge was half empty and a small section for the pastries. Bakery was very clean, wish it had an outdoor and indoor seating, and it was like walking into a sauna. I understand it's a bakery, but it was way too hot inside. It was also not bright. Very dim inside. I will, or will not return. Thank you all.

I recently tried out El Cocinero's food at an event that they catered to. As a person who eats meat and is not restricted, I would come here for the good food. The vegan al pastor had chunks of pineapple and it is seasoned and cooked to taste just like the meat version. The texture is just a little bit different but it does resemble a lot like meat. The vegan pastor also tastes just like the meat version, just less "smoky" and the texture is softer. The rice is flavorful and fluffy. The beans are seasoned just enough to have flavor but not compete with the other dishes. The creamy chipotle sauce was perfect topping the rice and beans. I do like vegan food but the only reference I had with Mexican vegan are places that try to add fake cheese and lean heavily on beans and rice. This business shows that you can still have all the flavors and not rely on cheese and meat. They focus on the flavors and not what would make non-vegans feel comfortable. Initially, I was going to give this first time experience a 4 star review so that it encourages me to go check out the restaurant so I can add the service and the ambiance. However, I was lucky enough to bring home leftovers and as I was eating it, the food tastes better. Had to add the extra star!

The space itself feels really nice, the kind of spot you could bring a book, host a book club, or just settle in to study for a while. The floral wall and overall aesthetic make it feel like a little oasis. As for the drinks, we got the Superglow Latte and a seasonal pumpkin latte with pumpkin cold foam. Unfortunately the coffee itself just wasn't that good, I'd rate it around a 2/5. Honestly comparable to the Capital One Cafe coffee in terms of quality, and I was hoping for more given how much thought clearly went into the space. That said, the barista was really nice and helpful, and the vibe alone makes it worth a visit. I'm giving this a 3/5 overall, mainly for the atmosphere rather than the coffee itself. If this review helped, a thumbs up is always appreciated

I heard so much about this place from here and there that I finally decided to stop by…read more Hello Harley, where are you?? Walked in today at exactly 2:20pm and there was no one to greet me at the counter/register. Waited for like almost 10 minutes, still no one. I had to ask one of the customers if anyone is working here? She said yes, he is in the back. With that being said, I went to look for that he. Harley still didn't come out for another 5 minutes. When he did, he just stood there with a serious look on his face until I started to ask him a few things about their menu. Everything here is vegan. The bakery section was practically empty, except maybe 5 pastries in it. The shop was very nicely decorated with plants, decor here and there. You can also purchase plants for your house. (indoor plants). It was very cute, moderate size and quaint. I ordered from their Coffee/Latte menu. They also had a separate menu for Matcha drinks. Got myself a Iced Blue Lavender Latte with Oat milk free of charge. ($8.00), it was interestingly tasty and very refreshing. Then I ordered their Breakfast Burrito that came with: sautéed mushrooms, pickled onions, avocado, tater tots, and egg. ($17.00). Total was $54.00, and some change. Since I was very hungry, got myself their Avocado Tartine on a nicely toasted slice of Sourdough that came with: avocado, tomatoes, pickled onions, capers, and a tiny scoop of garlic mayo. The garlic mayo itself is 5 stars. It was that good. Great portions, prices were expensive, the coffee shop itself had a good vibe with great music playing overhead, they had a gender neutral restroom and only street, valet, and metered parking. They also have some outdoor seating. Last, but not least, I also got a Croissant that was stuffed with great amount of Matcha. I haven't had something like that before. ($8.75). I asked for a receipt, and Harley said he can email it to me, but I said I needed a printed copy, and he refused to give it to me. I may or may not return. Food was very fresh, delicious, hot, and came out pretty quickly. That's all for now.
