This place is great as far as staff being helpful, quick cleanup and plenty of room to sit. They get your drink order and bring it to your table wherever you decide to sit and they have some sauces already at the table for you. The selection is pretty standard, nothing crazy but they have a lot of the basics, a huge dessert line and some sushi items. Their sushi was warm, which was odd and concerning considering it was nigiri (salmon and rice, not cooked). I got some shrimp as well, unpeeled was the only option and I tried anyway, these were also room temp (though cooked) and weirdly mushy. Not sure if that's better or worse than over cooked and chewy. Cocktail sauce was delicious, on the sweeter side. My friend got pizza, orange chicken, garlic bread and a few other random items. She loved everything she had. I'd give it a 3.5 Environment: This was a really big buffet! One side was where you got food and the other side had lots of seats. There were some areas where it could be divided so if you have a big party or something similar, you can split it up. Staff: we had a huge part/eventy and yet the servers were still very kind and patient with us. Def. an extra star for that because usually many servers would look impatient or rude but they were consistently cleaning and serving us. Also, we weren't the only customers, there were lots of people during the weekend so I appreciated that. Food: maybe I haven't gone to a buffet in a really long time in Portland, I thought it was okay. Lots of options and the things I recommend most were the fried dishes and their veggies. Some of the fried things I had were the butterfly shrimp, fries, springrolls, etc and they were all good! The veggies weren't over cooked. Some of the meats were hit or miss. The food was acceptable with a few exceptions, and the atmosphere was fair though uninspired. The problem is the inconsistent customer service. One lady at the front counter was friendly, welcoming, and confirmed that my son qualified for a free birthday meal and encouraged us to come for lunch, but when we returned as a family a different woman at the front was unfriendly, refused to honor the free meal offer, and seemed bothered that we were expecting the offer to be honored. I walked in after paying and immediately regretted my decision. I was reminded why I haven't gone to a buffet in a decade. The floors were sticky. The chairs were dirty. There was trash and food bits under our table. I was so grossed out. A lot of Costco products reheated. Fountain drinks are not buffet style. You have to order your drinks. Sushi looked like it would give me foodborne illness. Food items were not properly labeled. Example, I could not tell which buns were which and which ones had meat vs. not. Service was fine. Nothing spectacular. I really hope good, clean buffets spots make a revival in the next decade, but I don't know that they ever will. read more

I am embarrassed to write this review because the. the world will know I, an Asian-American woman, chose to eat here. Hope springs eternal is my excuse. I took a spin around the place a few weeks ago and was optimistic it might be a replacement for the long-gone Buffet Palace. It is not. There were a few okay items. I did enjoy the hot and sour soup! The bok choy was still crispy and nice flavor. The spicy chicken had some kick. The sushi was actually not too bad. The fish tasted clean and didn't make us sick. The mushrooms were decent albeit without any memorable flavors. I liked the little palmiers cookies, but I love those anywhere, anyhow, so don't go by that. At least they weren't stale! Everything else ranged from tasteless to downright horrendous. There were many items I took one bite of and tossed the rest in the growing refuse pile on my old plate still sitting there. For example, I now know it is possible to screw up steamed buns, one of my favorite foods on Earth. Theirs were hard, stuck to the paper. A supposed chashu pork one had some tasteless grey meat I couldn't really positively identify as a meat substance, let alone chashu pork. Calamari like rubber. Salmon overcooked. Crimjnally overdressed salad. They have an enormous row of desserts. The pineapple was delicious and ripe. I tried some "cream"-filled layered things, puffs and pseudo eclairs. That filling reminded me of the frosting on supermarket cakes made of over sugared, whipped shortening. Oh god. I feel sick I even had one tiny bite of those. They are probably still wreaking havoc in my intestines. Tapioca which I normally love was like glue with lumps. I was appalled at the serve-yourself reach-down freezer of ice cream in tubs. . . especially after I witnessed a gentleman cough into his hand several times right in front of it. This is not a joke. Stir fry bar and sushi bar was very lacking and there was a customer that I witnessed trying to get the chefs attention more than 3 times calling out "sir, sir, SIRRRR can I get my food cooked please?" i turned and saw the chefs back was facing the customer and well- he was too busy watching something on his phone (youtube?). so you know service would be slow and ingredients were mediocre, not much meat option other than beef, they were out of pork, and then just shrimp. Some veggies and noodle choices like udon or yakisoba like noodle. This really docked a star off - and I very rarely give less than 3 stars review. Sushi bar was screaming horror, each plate looked extremely dry, old and just needs some detailing on the raw plates where the residue needs to be cleaned up! You would lose your appetite for raw fish after seeing the residue left behind from previous ones (thawed out liquid) and they didn't switch to a new plate or wipe it down. I was about to just grab an ordinary crab salad roll then I saw to my right the plate of avocado roll with black sesame seed, there was a hug crawling all over it. I stared a few more times to make sure it was a black sesame seed rolling, it wasn't...... I didn't want to attempt taking a photo because it was just too disturbing at this point. The one piece of crab salad-cucumber-avocado roll, I used the tongs and placed it on my plate and it made a thud sound, I was like huh? when i got back to my table to eat, I realized it was because the rice had hardened! The sushi rice has hardened so much that when I took a bite, all the other ingredients came falling out and the rice was just too stiff and dry. I was definitely disappointed but not surprised at this point. A lot of fruits and dessert option and including a shave ice and icecream section! So far all self serve and kids seem to roam around that section the most. This did earn some points for a star back but they don't have 1/2 star point system unfortunately. Parking lot is huge! Plenty of space since it's in a complex with Petsmart and Anytime fitness nearby. Price per adult $20 ish and refillable soft drinks about $2-3 recommendation: Stay at the hot entree stations with the seafood- everything is at least cooked and somewhat hot or were cooked to hot temperatures. Manila clams was good but we ate a few pieces where the oyster were still raw and slimy (partner was ok with that but I prefer fully cooked as It should have been since it's as steam broiled?) End note: leaving it as 2 star and honest review- Would not come back, I was very concerned about sanitation and cross-contamination after I saw the sushi station. I went with a large party and we had a section of the restaurant reserved. First of all, the front desk personnel is very abrupt and speaks loudly, almost yelling. She made us take a photo of each guest to ensure we paid for everyone It is a very spacious place and brightly lit which made me think there are many food selections to choose from. But I was wrong! The sushi section had very similar rolls and only two sashimi items which were not too fresh. The half of hot food section was all fried food. Some food items (ie radish, pickled ginger) seemed unusually bright as if food coloring was used. Only thing decent was wok, where you choose your own meat and veggies to cook fresh. What made me wonder is why Styrofoam cups and plates are used. I dont think I will come back any time soon. read more

This buffet is very hit and miss; mostly "miss". However I do go there often. The Orange Chicken is always very tough and poor quality chicken, The orange source is very lacking in real flavor and there isn't much of it anyway. There are some inedible chicken nuggets that are dry and reheated from who knows when. Pot stickers are hard and dried out. Pizza worse than what you can have at home out of a box. The tables are often sticky and not cleaned well. The silverware is often not well washed and has food particles left on it. I never get the sushi so I can't comment on that, and the salad bar is a bit sad. I do find several items that I like and that's why I keep coming back. There are lots of fruit and desert options that are quite nice. The staff always seem preoccupied on their phones and they don't keep the buffet area clean. Having said all that, I quite like the place and with a bit more effort they could make it really good. They just need to address a few issues and improve the cleanliness and food quality. read more

I can't describe the level of awful that this restaurant is. What wasn't cold was baked dry by heat lamps. Who knows how long all the goops and blobs of what looked like food sits out as by the look and taste, I would presume all day. The cooked food was just nasty, shrimp tasted spoiled, edimame was cold and wet inside, the red spicy Kimchi tasted nothing like Kimchi is supposed to taste, fried rice had almost no taste. How do you mess up fried rice? Coconut shrimp....probably sheep but hard to tell. For the good....well, the canned beets in the salad line-up, the chocolate pudding, and the ice cold glass of water someone placed at my table were Rockstars. I debated about a five. Im certain people will disagree and it's highly likely my experience was unique but it's my experience and I was pleased. This is the safest I have felt eating out since COVID!!!!! That's important to me. The space is huge. It's also a beautiful space. Very clean and well lit too. I wasn't even 60 feet from the next person and there was a fair amount of people. I don't know if there is an Asian buffet consortium where all of them decide on and procure requisite ingredients but basically all of the stuff you see at an Asian buffet is here and in the form you usually see it in. So really the food was not what earned the five. The sushi was good. The rice was flavorful. It was pretty. And as good of sushi as I've had at a buffet. I love the ice cream. I find it incredibly unsanitary. I'll leave it at that. Incredible amount of desserts. They had five flavors of jello. Even lychee jello. I've never even seen that before. I wish this business well. My kid loves buffets so figured we'd give this one a try. I was pleasantly surprised! Super clean and modern, quick service with drinks and very large variety of food. The bbq rubs were really tender and tasty, Chinese style char siu sauce. The sushi also had a variety of rolls and nigiri that were fresh. I really liked their salad bar choices too as they had some Korean salads that I love and seaweed salad for the sushi. They also had every condiment possible. My son loved that they had some American options (pizza and French fries) and also the udon/noodle bar. The price is very reasonable for the wide variety. read more

TL;DR: There is a massive selection, but it comes at a cost. As a Hillsboro native, I was tickled to see the Marshall's was replaced by a massive Chinese buffet. Not knowing what to expect, the boy and I went here for lunch on a Sunday. The weekend prices are more expensive - $20/ person. Coming here for lunch on a weekday I think is $15/person. We were met by a woman at the front desk who was very abrupt. We had to pick our drink seconds after answering how many were in our party. Looking around confused for drink choices, she sharply pointed to the drink menu on the counter. Once we both answered, she stated the price for our meal and looked at us. Still confused, we figured out we were supposed to pay. We got past the first step and walked into the actual restaurant. It's a pretty spacious establishment with plenty of seating. It's perfect for large parties and families. We found a table and put our stuff down. I wish they had a way to mark that the table was taken and we were away to grab food - maybe like a small card or placard for the table? We were only given napkin and a straw to walk in with, so we put those on the table and hoped it would be enough to "mark" it as taken. On top of the buffet counters are incredibly cheap Styrofoam plates and flimsy plastic cutlery. But under the counter on shelves were actual plates. We searched a bit and found some metal cutlery as well. The buffet selection is huge. There's everything from sushi to hibachi noodles and ramen to cold fruits and salads to classic Chinese buffet items to seafood to some oddities such as Texas toast and pizza, as well as a large dessert selection. (Random but one of the "dessert" selections was just a pan of pretzel thins?? Very funny to see.) I will say, to their credit, everything they actually made themselves was good. The hibachi grill, some of the chicken noodle dishes, the pot roast, and some of the sushi was very good. But everything that could be bulk made was very obviously purchased and heated. (Potstickers, spring rolls, dumplings, Texas toast, ALL the dessert items, orange chicken, and more). These items were just not good. They tasted microwaved and bland. I wish there had been signage or something to help control the chaos as well. This is a massive space and therefore there are a TON of people. There was no real direction for where to start the buffet or which direction to go, so you'd be going down a line and all of a sudden be met with a large group of people going the opposite direction, forcing you to get out of line and start over. We grabbed our first round of food and sat down, then realized we never got our drinks. We looked around confused as there were no drink stations either. Then we saw one of three servers rushing around with platters of cups (imagine 1 sever, 10+ cups on a tray) trying to deliver the drinks people ordered at the front counter. It was chaos and it took a long time to get our water, which was not the servers fault. There is well over 50 tables within the restaurant and there were DOZENS of large groups as well. Just 3 servers trying to figure out who ordered what at the front was a horrible way to go about delivering drinks. The food wasn't very good, the service was nonexistent, the cleanliness is lackluster, and price only matches quantity. Don't go here. read more

I was really excited about a buffet opening up in Hillsboro and finally got a chance to go try. This buffet is very new, clean, and spacious with great customer service! Dinner was $17.99 + $2.50 for a drink. They had a lot of variety in food. From Chinese food, dimsum, sushi, salads, crabs, ice cream, shaved ice, and many other desserts. I honestly think this place has a lot of potential. Their food choices are great but food quality can definitely improve. The amount of customers coming in aren't enough to go through all the food quickly enough, therefore the food has been sitting there for quite a while making it not fresh anymore. Especially sushi, I suggest on having sushi made to order for now, then back to normal when customer flow picks back up. I rather wait for the sushi to be made fresh instead of leaving raw fish out like that. Overall, I will come back and give it another try since it is very close to home. So this evening I didn't really have dinner plans. I do enjoy sushi, and I thought that $12.99 was a pretty fair price, so I decided to drive down Cornell one light to 25th Ave to give HGB a try. I was going to see if I could check it out before I committed, but the restaurant is set up as pay first, which makes sense. I paid and went in. So I love sushi...Hero Sushi is my favorite in the Hillsboro area, but as expected this wasn't nearly as good. The rolls, while presented very well, lacked flavor. I wasn't expecting much and I wasn't disappointed. All in all I ended up saving money because I was planning on going to Albertsons for ice cream after dinner, but the "frozen treat" that I had for dessert solved that craving. Finally, the reason I didn't go 4 stars is because I used the restroom before I left and it was a mess. Floor was wet with paper towels everywhere. Not to mention there were two bottles of cleaning chemicals under the sink ( with a towel on top to try and hide). I am fairly sure that would be considered a health hazard if discovered by a certain "Department" {Just a heads up} Glad I gave it a try, but you get what you pay for, and I would rather pay more for better quality. read more

This place is a worthy successor to Buffet Palace in Beaverton, which closed for good during Covid. The selection is large, the food is better than average for a buffet (although it can be dried out in some cases.) They have an impressive amount of seafood, including a sushi bar (that even has tempura rolls), a Mongolian BBQ station, a large salad bar with both prepared and mix your own salads with an array of sauces and dressings, some food for the less adventurous (garlic bread, fried chicken, BBQ ribs, pasta, etc.) and some very decent dishes. They also have a large dessert option bar. I loved the salt and pepper squid, which was pleasantly chewy but not overly so like squid I have had before, and the hot and spicy chicken is really good too, a bit of a kick but not excessive. The spicy whitefish was also VERY good. I would order just that in a full portion and be happy. All in all, worth it for the price, which was around $27 including drink and tip.
