I'm generally not a fan of buffets, but I was pleasantly surprised by Mizumi Buffet. We arrived during lunchtime and there were plenty of hot, fresh options to choose from. There is a wide variety of food, including an impressive selection of sushi. In addition, there is a hibachi bar, as well as multiple soups and white rice. The dining room is comfortable with both plenty of booths and table tops. The lighting isn't overly bright, and the entire restaurant felt clean. read more

The best part for me was the fresh sashimi....I got my money's worth in that alone. But also loved the clams, baked garlic oyster, sushi and the grilled chicken thighs. I have been here twice, so I have to be honest and say that I liked it the first time which is why I came back today. Unfortunately however, I am going to have to give this place a fail. Several of the dishes I took today were very badly undercooked and I paid the ultimate price for eating them. I also had a couple different pieces of sushi that tasted off. Directly because of the horrid condition of the men's bathroom I cannot rate more than two stars. The bathroom itself is half a star for being a room I never want to go in. Listen up Mizumi.. you are alienating even your good customers due to your bathrooms!!!!!! I eat at Mizumi a couple times a month. Just learn not to go during the dead period all restaurants have in-between lunch and dinner. That dead period is bad for any buffet style eatery as buffets need a lot of people and food moving to stay fresh. Oh, the buffet. A French word but a distinctively American concept. The French would likely turn up their noses at the idea of self-serving from heat lamp lit troughs to the point of engorgement. But many of us don't give a f*** what the French think, and so the buffet perseveres across America...and in Tigard, too. And so, as far as Pan-Asian buffets go, Mizumi generally delivers on variety and value. But quality and freshness are another matter, and it's hit or miss. I've been here now some 8-12 times and on two separate occasions, found hair in the sushi. Gross. Some sashimi has been served still frozen. However, the quality and preparation of food on most other visits was reasonably good overall. The servers and hosts can be friendly but also abrupt at times. The dining room is a bit outdated and could use modernizing. But at $16.99 for weekday lunch and $22.99 for weekday dinner (with crab, oysters and sashimi), there's pretty good value here. A weekend meal goes up to around $30. In any event, Mizumi is what it is--a big, sometimes messy buffet and it probably doesn't deserve the plethora of bitter one star reviews on Yelp. Yes, it's not that spectacular, but it doesn't have delusions of grandeur either. In fact, the photos of what appear to be personas non grata (those angry Yelp reviewers?) lined up on the wall of the restaurant's entrance gave me a chuckle. I will start by saying that I rarely visit Buffett style restaurants because not all patrons practice good hygiene and table etiquette but, This restaurant was recommended by my coworker. It was an overall good experience at Mizumi because most of their food was delicious and offered a wide variety of tasty delicacies like red snapper, crawfish, octopus, and snail to name a few among the normal Chinese style buffet menu. They also had a really uniquely flavored dungeness crab that I could not get enough of. It was all you can eat for a very reasonable price of $24.95. I have to say that I was initially turned off by the wall of shame that you were introduced to as you entered the restaurant reflecting those who walked out without paying. I mean I get it but, for me it sets the tone for bad customer service. As I approached the hostess, she was watching a video on her phone and delayed acknowledging my presence. She in fact never looked at me even when she showed me to my table. After finding my table, I went to the restroom to wash my hands and it was completely filthy. I was even nervous about touching the soap dispenser to wash my hands. It definitely required a deep cleansing. Then after finishing my meal, I reproached the hostess to pay and again, she never gave me her attention and she grabbed at the air in an attempt to take my credit card from my hand. She may have been the owner but, definitely not the right person to be in the front. With her rude demeanor and lack of attention to the customers, I can see why so many people made it to their wall of shame but, after experiencing that hostess, maybe her photo should be at the top of the others as being the reason why. read more

Took 6 of our grandkids to dinner. Everyone was quite happy. The sushi lover in the group found enough options to make her happy, the "I only like noodles" guy tried and liked new things. My husband and the sushi lover both were happy with the variety of seafood. We came to the buffet not expecting too much but we were pleasantly surprised! We found their sashimi and sushi section fresh with a nice variety. Their katsu and tempura were also good - crispy and tender inside. I was happy to see beef ribs, and they were very tender but could have used some of the fat trimmed off of them. Staff were polite and helpful throughout. Good selection, yes, regular buffet options, but good ones. The lady at the sushi stand took time to talk with my mom and even made her one that wasn't up already. We were at the tail end of lunch and staff were preparing for dinner service. I've never had a 5-star experience at a buffet because... you know what to expect at a buffet; buffet-quality food. The food at Mizumi, however, really was much better than expected. And there was such a great variety, I wish I was able to eat more because I couldn't even try everything. From what I did grab, though, there wasn't a single thing that I didn't like. My only complaint, which was a huge bummer, is their website doesn't have the pricing for the lunch buffet. We came 2 more times for dinner, one in October 2024 and one in Jan 2025 and we were happy both times. Even both times Mizumi didn't have steam snow crab, but they made up with the whole fried blue crab which we love. They always have crawfishes which are decent. Sashimi with Salmon belly, tuna, red snapper are pretty fresh and they kept filling up. My gf had eel roll which were good. Clamps, oysters, green mussels are very good . Mushrooms with stir fried with sauce are excellent. Salted fried shrimp are very tasty. Steam corn on cob were sweet. Stir fried vegetables with shrimp, with chicken are freshly cooked and delicious. Their ice cream chocolate cups were creamy and excellent. Staffs service are good. They were friendly and helpful to clean up our dirty dishes. Short: In the old Hometown buffet comes a different buffet! I would have gone elsewhere if I could. Too pricey for what it is and was! This is more like a 2.5 honestly only based on the sole fact of wide food selection. Great selection, lots of sushi Japanese Chinese great variety, but temperatures of the food weren't in sync, overly price for what it was. Service was barely there, had to ask 3 times for a refill on my soda, and it took a while for them to clear plates. (I don't expect outstanding service at a buffet, but I do expect a reasonable amount of time to fulfill a minor request - like a soda refill) Food: I had sashimi, which tasted great and I didn't get sick! I always worry about fish laying around for too long. Lots of selection, but some of the foods were not all the same temperature, which I was not happy about. Also it took a while for foods to be replenished. From what I can remember, I took out my family of 5, and it cost us about $110. For lunch, not dinner. Oh, and only 1 pepsi and 1 tea. [Overall] I don't think I will be coming back, it is too pricey and therefore a disappointment. OMG! I have lived in the area for 2 years and never been here since I thought the food would suck but let me tell you, dinner time buffet is the best. Lots of seafood and sushi, it doesn't disappoint. It was $20.99 per person they have different price for lunch and to go. Service was good greeter at the front was very cheerful. If you're going to eat out at a buffet, you really should NOT have high expectations for the quality and service. I knew what I was going into and was prepared to expect some average dishes. I was craving AYCE sushi and this was the place I heard had a decent selection. Admittedly, I was a little leery about going to a buffet during this ongoing pandemic but when I saw the precautions they were taking for everyone's safety I felt quite at ease. Everyone must wear their mask when handling the food utensils and before handing the food utensils everyone sanitized their hands. I had a clear view of the plates and the buffet and I noticed that everyone complied. There was quite a variety of dishes to choose from. I had something that tasted like shrimp, had the texture of shrimp but it had a deep fried and had some sort of cream inside. It was really good whatever it was. Of course I had to sample some of the orange chicken which was also super satisfying. I sampled the oysters. The were only ok. They were hot and soft. I was hoping for fresh oysters on ice. I took a lot of the sashimi. I never eat the rice so it's never filling. Service there was really great too. Servers would walk around with a pitcher of Pepsi and water and keep your glass full and they were also quick to remove empty plates. This place would have never been on my radar as I live downtown. Came here with family because we're Filipinos and a meal without rice is one that drives the relatives closer and closer to insanity. The waiting area is kinda chaotic. The cashier was nice, but she had to make us wait to the side while she cashed customers out, since she was the only one who was also assigning seats. At least the wait wasn't too long. Once we sat down we did find things we like. It's typical Asian buffet stuff- soup station, fried foods station, grilled bowls, salad station, sushi station. Although nothing was bad, but nothing was memorable. The best thing about this place is that it's filling, not too bad a price, and it was next to an HMart, which is always itself a treat. read more

Okay.... We tried something new with this restaurant and wanted to eat before going to Hmart next door. Ambience was good and the buffet area looked promising. We were seated and started our culinary adventure. The food looked good with a lot of your normal Asian culinary fare. The floors were very slippery and greasy feeling. So my daughter and I carefully made our way back to our booth. We started to eat and discovered most of the items were tepid to cold. Much of the sushi had a fishy flavor (not normal). We decided to cut our losses and go grocery shopping. Within 5 min we were both camping in the bathroom with upset stomachs. Food was alright. They had Dungeness crab, which was very dry. They did have fruits, a couple of cake desserts, and pudding. For ice cream, they have popsicles and ice cream cups (strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate). Service: The worker who was in the sushi section stopped making the kanikama (crabmeat) sushi and sashimi after she saw how much my family and I were taking. It is an ALL YOU CAN EAT place, there should not be any restrictions on how much we can take. Water refills by the waiters were consistent though. Mizumi buffet is my parents go to buffet. We went for the first time since covid started and we're glad to see they had a glove policy to go in the buffet to minimize people touching all the handles and such. That being said, it wasn't being enforced very strongly as there were people that weren't using gloves. There was the standard buffet options but not a whole lot to chose from. A lot of the dishes, and the coconut chicken specifically, appear to be sitting there for a long time and all dried up. The coconut chicken had no more sauce that wasn't dried up so it just appeared to be hard breaded chicken. It didn't seem that busy and they were very slowly replenishing food. Whether you get vegetarian or sashimi style pieces, they are $.75/ea. I did not get any sushi today. I got a mix of non seafood entree items that are $5.99/lb. If you mix seafood with other meats it is $7.99/lb. Seafood only is $11.99/lb. I saw the scale at checkout and it was .9#. I was charged $5.39. So all good! read more
