I stopped you because I was in town and was hungry for Chinese food. I was greeted by a very grumpy worker. She took my order and seemed annoyed. I ordered the Kung pow chicken with rice and I had to choose between a drink or egg flour soup. They bake flowers. Soup was actually pretty good so I made the right choice there. I drink my water and was not offered a refill until I was almost finished with my dinner. The Kung pow chicken tasted weird. It had a vinegar kind of bite to it. I know it wasn't vinegar, but it did not taste good like Kung pow. The rice I had was a bit dry and kept falling off my fork. The server was not present 90% of my visit and only asked me one time if I needed a refill of water. The place was actually dirty. Especially the bathroom, which was ridiculous. Ordered take out yesterday--mushroom 0pchicken & mushroom tofu. Description said onions-not one piece. The mushrooms were ready to be thrown out. Shriveled & tasteless, not fresh. Was very good for me but it gave my one year old the shits. I got the combo that came with a spring roll 2 fried shrimp and crab wonton as well as rice and noodles for $16 it was a good deal , plus they also gave me soup. Really good, solid chinese food. The egg foo young is some of the better we've had, and the fried rice is excellent, as is the bbq pork noodle soup. It is a little far away from where we live, but I think it is worth the drive. This probably be our new go-to chinese restaurant. read more

Today I took my elderly mom to the dentist, then I brought her here for lunch. Its a sweet, clean, little restaurant with attractive decorations and a very nice server. There are maybe ten parking spots in the lot and about a dozen tables. Water and menus were brought immediately. Soon we had hot tea and eggflower soup. Both were steaming hot and tasty. No msg btw. Says so on the door. My mom had cashew chicken and steamed rice. It was a good amountof food. It had a lot of zucchini in it. Mom hates zucchini...well she used to but probably doesn't remember ( she has Alzheimer's). She ate all of it. I think I saw water chestnuts, celery, chicken, and onions too. The sauce was brown. My sweet and sour was pretty tasty. There was less of it than the cashew chicken. The batter was crunchy, the chicken inside tender. There was a good amount of orange sauce ( not awesome but not bad), carrot slivers, onion pieces, and green pepper. No pineapple chunks. That made me sad. That's almost the best part! The fortune cookies were ok. The bill was $14. Not bad. I'd totally go back. P.S. The plastic dishes while clean and pretty enough, were not my favorite. read more

The sauces have flavour and are not identical. The boss and her employees CARE that your order is what you want. The colour is bright in every dish. This is our fourth visit. Everything has been spot on. If you're on the fence about Chinese or something else, seriously eat at Happy Garden. Prices, quantity, and quality are spot on. We have had the same disappointing experience as others have recently the new owners/recipes are not good. The bbq pork fried rice was a mushy over cooked mess. This has been my favorite Chinese place since I found it several years ago. I picked up an order Kung Pao Chicken last night, though, and it seems like they have changed the recipe. It's not that it's BAD, it's just not what I expected. There wasn't much sauce, hardly any peanuts and it had JALAPENOS? It was bad enough that the new person that took the phone order didn't know the difference between the dinner entree and an order of soup ($22) and the combination dinner that I wanted that comes with soup - among other things - for $15. DoorDash does not have a way for me to report this since I already reported the "fishy" shrimp and received only a future order credit rather than my $$ back. Will never use that service again, but beware... do not eat at this restaurant! Would give 0 stars if I could, but have to select at least 1 to submit... Ordered through DoorDash (don't get me started - tipped driver extra to make sure my large order was complete. very mad about that as you will see next). 1 item was not in my order. A dish included shrimp and was so fishy that no-one would touch it after a single taste. Items that were supposed to be "spicy", which I requested to be "extra spicy, spicy", were so mild a toddler would have no problem with them - if they tasted good. One of my favorites for a fast and somewhat healthy dinner. The kiddo and I always share an order of veggie noodles and tofu and veggies and it's always really good. We can get all the veggies we love and none of the veggies we hate so we can eat it all and leave fat and happy. What's really great about this place is the service though. This place is shockingly good! It may be in little Cornelius, but the freshness and flavor is great. We ordered green bean chicken, the green beans were perfectly cooked nice and tender, mandarin beef nice and crispy, pork fried rice, mu shu chicken. Wow oh wow!!  This charming little resturant is the "go to" place for some damn good food!  This gem is super close to our house which is a total score, but the food is so flippin' good I would actually take the jont across town for it... The hot-n-sour soup alone gives this place enough stars, but then you add in the bomb food (great portions and prices) and our waitress (family of the owner) makes this place our new fave!  I had the sesame  chicken which was white meat, no grisle at all (!), lighty bready and the perfect amount of crisp and plenty to take some home! read more

This place is on the main drag, so its easy to find. It may not look like much from the outside, but inside. Heck yea. Clean, nice, well lit, VERY friendly staff. All the food here was good. I had a couple of beef selections. Wife grabbed a shrimp dish. My son had his go to chicken fried rice. The portions here were bigger than i thought they would be, BONUS. We used to be a huge fan of this restaurant. When Diana left, we tried to continue to be loyal customers but the food quality has diminished considerably. The restaurant is not as clean as it used to be. Last night I ordered special fried rice and sweet/sour chicken to go. Rice was sticky, no shrimp anymore, flavor was bland. Chicken was dry. I give the owners credit.. They must either be aware of Yelp and monitor their reviews closely or they are very much in tune with their customers' level of satisfaction. Last night, I ordered my usual Kung Pao Chicken meal and I was pleasantly surprised to see that most of the plate of the dish was actually chicken! 6-8 oz I'd say. For about $20 including an order of Spring rolls (crispy Yum), extra side of rice To-Go, and a Soft drink, with enough chicken to have leftovers at home...I think I did alright. This is a great place to sit down and have a meal when you're in the mood for Chinese. The dining room is always comfortable, clean, and welcoming. I can't help but smile every time I see at the Golden Buddha and cat by their front counter. :) It's looking like Panda Express might be coming to Cornelius in Fall 2015 - with a Drive-Thru. I hope Happy Garden can still keep seats filled and people ordering (including takeout). I wonder what they'll make of the competition...menu change? free-delivery? Whatever it is, I wish them luck...even though on most days... Panda's Chinese food is good enough for those occasional meals out days. read more

I am not happy. I have ordered from this restaurant before and thoroughly enjoyed the food but not tonight. I ordered pork fried rice and got chicken fried rice. I ordered Szechuan beef and there is no beef in that dish. Everything tastes like flour and the sauces are bland and fried rice was tasteless. The barbecued pork was not served with a red sauce and hot mustard as expected but instead had some bizarre barbecue sauce accompanying it. I will not order from this restaurant again. In addition, the entrées were served in flimsy plastic containers that melted and leaked through onto other containers. Did this place change ownership? This is not the Happy Garden's restaurant I remember. Very sad... we threw most of our $60 order in the trash. read more

Wonderful food! The quality was great and the portions huge! Best BBQ pork ever. I had the chicken subgum chow mien ... and it did not disappoint. We will order again! Fresh and hot food which is rare when having it delivered. Plus they sent hot mustard, red sauce and soy sauce, plenty for the meals. I just really didn't enjoy the rice, hard and bland for my taste.
